    I use old phone books and yellow pages. we still get local "gold pages" every year. They are 8.5 inches long so i cut 2.5 or 3 inch strips and use them instead of adding machine paper because it tears easily.

      It's such a great thing isn't it?! Lots of options when it comes to using this method. I really like how it keeps them somewhat organized. When they are sewn to the paper they can't cause too many problems. lol

    Adding machine tape is often found at the thrift store in the school supply section.

      yes!!! So much cheaper that way too - I love finding great deals on things at the thrift store.

    I use Scrap Tape. It’s 2 1/2” wide, and it is left on the strip which stabilizes the strip which is helpful if some of the scraps are on the bias. It’s basically non-woven very light interfacing. I buy it on Amazon, but I’ve seen it in stores as well. It’s more expensive than the paper, but I find it more convenient.

      yes! I have that as well - will be sharing a video soon with that option in a bit. It's a great product and yes - not having to remove the paper saves yourself some time! Here is a link to check out the scrap tape if anyone is interested: amzn.to/450GU2J

    This is a great”hack” I have a bunch done. You can take crumbs and sew together then sew onto the tape. I got the wider tape from Amazon so I would have ability to do wider strip if I wanted. I cut my tapes 14” and chain 4 at a time. Great project to sew and store. I also don’t trim until ready to use and leave the paper in place.

      Great tips!! thank you so much for sharing them. I love the idea of 14" at a time- totally workable length without the big roll at the machine. Leaving the paper on to help them keep under control, yes!

    You use a smaller stitch to be able pull the paper off? I think I missed that part

    • @Patchworkposse
      @Patchworkposse  Месяц назад

      I actually didn't make the adjustment. I usually do as you don't want your stitches to pull - but when you use the water pen on the stitch line, it comes right out without any issue.

    Interesting idea. But doesn't the roll of paper get under the sewing machine throat?

    • @Patchworkposse
      @Patchworkposse  Месяц назад

      It does, however you could cut them into smaller pieces - like 14" or 20" lengths to help keep it more manageable.

    I tried adding machine tape years ago. The size is too limiting. Wash away stabilizer is a fantastic base, can work with different sizes and inexpensive.

    • @Patchworkposse
      @Patchworkposse  Месяц назад

      There is something to say about having the size already picked for you, or making it a size you want. I will have to explore the wash away - thanks for the idea!

    FYI don't use thermal tape (often confused with adding machine tape) as thermal tape has harmful chemicals in it that can transfer to your skin when handling. Thats why its recommended to wear gloves when handling cash register tape. I ordered my adding machine tape on line.

      Yes. Great point! Plus when you iron it, everything would go dark. This is a great indication that you have the wrong paper.
