I’m 73 and still love Pink Floyd, Queen, Led Zeppelin, Beatles, Eagles, Traffic etc. Feel like I grew up with the best soundtrack from 1962 on.
I'm 70. My first album - Jimi Hendrix' "Are You Experienced?" And Homer knows when Rock was perfected in 1974. "It's a scientific fact."
Because you did have the best music I’m 60 and feel the same way
I'm 63 and I've been listening to Pink Floyd since I was 12. My parents used to tell me it was "Doper music". That's about the time I discovered weed.
Lol me 2 that is fun it's to bad for thim 💭 have a good lesson!¡ 😊
Ich hoffe, deine Eltern haben irgendwann verstanden dass Pink Floyd schon damals recht hatte und du wahrscheinlich auch😂
The year was, I think, 1989. (Though I'm not good with linear time.) I was in the pool...not too fancy, just an above-ground pool, but it was nice to have. I lived with my parents, and so too (for a while, at least) did my grandmother. I was old enough not to have to attend the local brainwashing facility, (I left it early) yet not old enough yet to find myself the wage slave. In this idyllic memory of that bygone age, I had a boom-box with the 'Wish You Were Here' album playing as I floated listless around the perpetual circle of the water's gentle drift. Out from the kitchen my mother called out, "Turn that racket off!"
My fondest memory of my Nana is when she interceded on my behalf. "Oh, I like it, Beu," she said. My mother went back to whatever else she was doing, and the notes continued to rise into the clear blue sky.
I miss her. She's been gone some three decades now, and I only realized too late what a waste it was not to have spent more time with her. And yet, each time I hear tracks from that album...especially "Shine On You Crazy Diamond"...I feel as if she's still in her rocker, smiling, sharing it with me.
Physics tells us that energy, like matter, can neither be created or destroyed. Steely rationalists will say that the energy retains no cohesion: that nothing survives of the souls we once were, when we die. And yet I choose to believe that they are wrong: that in some way which cannot be measured by an oscilloscope, we persist. Not because there is any evidence which compels the choice; but because it soothes my heart to believe that it may be so. And I have this as comfort: if I am WRONG...I'll never know.
Shine On, Nana...wherever you are.
I'm 66 and still listening. Pink Floyd was my first concert EVER in 1975. My two older brothers took their little sister to her first concert. I was only 17, but had been spending weekends at my oldest brother's and his wife's house. I'm so grateful they brought me along. Pink Floyd performed the entire "Dark Side of the Moon" album. What an amazing night. Window pane and all! (At 17 I had already graduated high school) When you've seen the very best as your first concert, nothing else will ever compare. I've since seen them three more times and Roger Waters 4 times. The last one being "This is not a drill." I do wish David Gilmore would tour as well. I would certainly be there. Hopefully, at least Roger Waters will tour again. Being in his 70s, I hope he continues to do what he's doing until he's 90. Whenever I buy a new car, the first thing I do is go to Amazon and purchase a new Pink Floyd sticker for the rear window. My brothers are no longer here but both of my daughters and one of my nephews are Pink Floyd fans. My daughters have seen Roger Waters with me and so has my brothers son. What a privilege to have seen one of the greatest musicians, composers, and lyricists of all time.🎉

Pink Floyd will go down in history as one of the most life changing, soul altering bands ever, without a doubt, Pink Floyd has the most mind blowing music period!
lol
Since RUclips algorithmically sent us all to hear this song and see this video and yours is the top ranked recent comment, I am gonna analyze your statement. The statement consists of two parts, Mr. Runon Sentence.
(1) "Pink Floyd will go down in history as one of the most life changing, soul altering bands ever, without a doubt," History, the recorded retelling of events. In general, history does not record "life changing" or "soul altering" musical groups, as both descriptors are subjective and historically insignificant. History records things like "Best selling band of the 20th century" or "Most culturally significant art of the 16th century".
(2) "Pink Floyd has the most mind blowing music period!" Subjective statement. "...period!" period exclamation point?
I judge your statement to be subjective hyperbole. Thank you for sharing.
In my humble opinion, Pink Floyd was a highly successful musical act whose art reflected the inner turmoil of youth acclimating themselves to the modern reality of mechanization and depersonalization. The music and images also depicted that same youth escaping that same bleak reality with drugs and debauchery, and how such escapism is ultimately false and destructive. I would call Pink Floyd the Definitive Boomer Band, even more so than the Beatles.
@@unperson5713 damn I cant believe I took the time to read it. I mean you're right in a way but also I dont think he meant what he said so literally as if their music changed history... I think he just likes the band.

Made sense to me, back in 75, when I was 15.
These guys were so FAR ahead of their time. I'm 60 and I've been realizing that for the past 30 years or so.
Because they are all very intelligent and don't put music in front of people just because it appeals to the lowest common denominator. Thanks Pink Floyd.

The genius of Pink Floyd was what made this song so realistic. It is describing not just the music industry but society in itself.
Pink Floyd's music is timeless. It has only gotten more relevant over the years.

He loved to drive in his Jaguar

This record came out shortly before I left school. Within a year or so I was introduced to the "Machine" by getting onto crowded public transport each morning filled with miserable looking people with dead eyes. The country (Britain) was in a bad way, but I was full of hope while making my way to a boring desk job, then back onto a crowded train carriage again to head home. At the age of 17 I realised exactly what this song was all about, and so did all my mates.
Heard this song when I was younger. Never understood it until now. Makes you ponder what is the point of it all.
I believe the song is originally about the music industry and its authoritarian control on young musician as well as the artificial nature of the industry, leaving no room for creativity.
But it's still cool that you found how to apply it to your life. As sad as that may be.

"Macbeth's self-justifications were feeble - and his conscience devoured him. Yes, even Iago was a little lamb, too. The imagination and spiritual strength of Shakespeare's evildoers stopped short at a dozen corpses. Because they had no ideology. Ideology - that is what gives evildoing its long-sought justification and gives the evildoer the necessary steadfastness and determination. That is the social theory which helps to make his acts seem good instead of bad in his own and others' eyes.... That was how the agents of the Inquisition fortified their wills: by invoking Christianity; the conquerors of foreign lands, by extolling the grandeur of their Motherland; the colonizers, by civilization; the Nazis, by race; and the Jacobins (early and late), by equality, brotherhood, and the happiness of future generations... This is an amazing lyrical song that makes my mind thinks just how much we are controlled by machines. This song was written before AI and here we are today in 2023... Welcome to the machine!
as you are extracted into this world, this song plays for every soul at birth.
born innocent to be groomed.

Most atmospheric Floyd song by far... Wright keys pierces my head.. my heart everytime
One of the most genius aspects of Pink Floyd’s music, they knew and used the introduction PERFECTLY! Setting the tones of the song long before a vocal began!
Yes. Noel Gallagher is the same way. He writes all his music first setting the tones and then later fills it with lyrics. And, his music keeps getting better.
Floyd has been a major influence on him, especially these days. Another amazing musician I respect.
Still revelant to this very day. A true masterpiece, visually as well.
The music goes with the film like they were made for each other.
This was an absolutely amazing pairing of harmonics and visual effects. Like they were made for each of. Wonderful work 👏
Pink Floyd é a melhor Banda de todos os tempos, ainda não ve uma que a supere. De Recife - pe 🇧🇷🔝🔝🔝

"The conscious and intelligent manipulation of the organized habits and opinions of the masses is an important element in democratic society. Those who manipulate this unseen mechanism of society constitute an invisible government which is the true ruling power of our country. ...We are governed, our minds are molded, our tastes formed, our ideas suggested, largely by men we have never heard of. This is a logical result of the way in which our democratic society is organized. Vast numbers of human beings must cooperate in this manner if they are to live together as a smoothly functioning society. ...In almost every act of our daily lives, whether in the sphere of politics or business, in our social conduct or our ethical thinking, we are dominated by the relatively small number of persons(chabad lubowitches)...who understand the mental processes and social patterns of the masses. It is they who pull the wires which control the public mind."
Edward L Bernays,
Everyday things like this all over the world get censored. This will too. It's an uphill battle. Sometimes you really just feel screaming "WAKE UP PEOPLE". It's incredible how almost everything nowadays has so many hooks to take a stab at you, slow attrition, since birth.
@@F_Du_Sea Truth will always Triumph.
@@F_Du_Sea What do they do once they've woken up? What if I'm awake and still trapped, simply a bystander to a destiny that's not my own?
@@Kastafore I suppose that's the issue. There could be millions of us, in secret. All it takes is a spark, I just hope we have enough fuel.
We need to get to that critical mass of people, when enough people wake up, our thoughts, being energy, will not allow this system to continue as it has. But after us baby boomers are gone, the under 30's who have only vague memories of a slightly more humane world..will by then be too spellbound, and forget.
We're already there right now.
Exactamente 👌
We've BEEN here.
