We're all glad you found your way through. ❤ Ren wrote this in tribute to his friend Joe Hughes, who got lost in his darkness and was never found after jumping from the Menai bridge. (The video was recorded on a bridge, too.) I love the way it can be read from the perspective of the person who cannot go on, or the people left behind. Freckled Angels was written about Joe, too.
@@joshuawiedenbeck6944 Im certain it is not the bridge in question. That particular one is over 200 years old and very much still in use. It could be a view of the area, but the darkness obscures it. 💔
@@GregDaniel78 I'm kinda glad it isn't. I can't imagine how hard it would have been to perform from there. He struggles enough with getting through it in other versions as it is without that added weight.
This song is so eerily beautiful! They are just incredible together! Edit: Cliff, you are one of the most humble, genuine, and caring guys out there. Please stay that way. So many people with mental illness (including myself) need to hear you and know that we're all gonna be ok. Much love, man! ❣️✌️
It isn't on the Menai Bridge. They are on a balcony. If you watch carefully you'll see the windows of an apartment come into the frame behind Ren twice during the video.
Chinchilla posted a lovely thank you video today on her YT channel. Turns out the rumors are true and she is the sweetest human, unsurprisingly. I cannot imagine being a female artist trying to go it alone in this cut throat industry. Go show her some love you guys. EDIT: Sorry, I meant to say thank you for this and for all of it. Keep moving forward.
I saw that video earlier, and it was really sweet, and I'm thrilled she's starting to get some love at last. When I look at the number of views on some of her videos it's little short of criminal how few there are. She has some new music coming out soon (?), can't wait. I think independent is the way of the future - cut out the middle-man, be free to speak your truth and people will find you.
@@GneasYTC Exactly on all of the above! That new song she's started teasing is absolute FIRE. She will break through and win, just like Ren is doing. She's got the talent and the compassion and the authenticity. People like us will do the rest!
Independent is independent and really hard to make it in the music biz, regardless of being female or male. Not sure why you pre-qualified it considering the biggest pop stars on earth are mostly women.
@@manuelper I hear you, but I fear it might be more accurate to say that the biggest sex symbols in music are mostly women. Regardless of their level of talent (which is usually very high imho) the industry's expectations for how female artists look, behave and create art are very different than for their male counterparts. I cannot imagine that the likes of Ed Sheeran, Post Malone, Bad Bunny etc have to deal with the same shallow aesthetic expectations forced upon, say, Selena Gomez, Demi Lovato, Dua Lipa, HER, Olivia Rodrigo etc. (Women should be able to wear/do whatever they want, of course ... I'm talking solely about industry framing.) E.g. for years, Billie Eilish was repeatedly demonized by the media, and even sections of the industry, for daring to act/think differently and for rejecting the norms for female artists. And I think Chinchilla said in an interview recently that her record label told her not to release Little Girl Gone because it was too aggressive and would ruffle feathers ... and besides people simply wouldn't like it. Without the benefit of hindsight, and the knowledge that everything would turn out ok, it must have taken a heck of a lot of courage to reject the powerful, controlling, profiteering music industry, in favor of preserving her artistic ideals ... and yes, sadly I think it's harder for women to do that. Cheers.
@@horsehollerer Sex always sells, but that doesn't mean there haven't been huge stars that did not become huge stars on the basis of talent alone. Look at Adele or Aretha, to name two "divas" off the top of my head. And let's not pretend that there haven't been plenty of men that were huge just strictly on the basis of being 'pretty'. Shit the entire boy-band phenomenom (including the likes of BTS) is built on it.
This and Chalk Outlines are so hauntingly beautiful. They compliment each other so damn well. Chinchilla's Fingers, especially the live one, is an amazing track and video! I think she's as much of a gem as Ren, in her own unique way. And couldn't agree more.. We are always morphing into our future selves, writing our stories as we live them, for better and worse. 💜
I was so torn whether to recommend Fingers or Elements as they are both absolutely amazing. Her vocals in the live vid of Fingers though just resonates through my entire being. The bit at the end about the keys in the knuckles... Just too relatable.
They are amazing together. It's tough between ren and sam or ren and chinchilla. I love them both. This song gets me every time. Great reaction bro Great to see you back
When he was on twitch during the premiere of Illest of Our Time somebody posted a clip that showed him saying that he's been working at this since he was 12
Fingers (live version) and Elements by Chinchilla are amazing! Shes working on new music too so keep an eye out! Please also check out freckled Angels by Ren
This is just so gut-wrenchingly good. They embody longing, sorrow, frustration and so on. It's certainly a performance that is so much more than just a sum of its parts.
Loved what you said about getting lost in the journey. I’ve been lost for over 30 years and am finally starting to define who I am as an individual for the first time in my adult life. So glad I discovered Ren and channels like yours that help me explore and process my newly emerging emotions. Btw, was following you before Ren cuz I’m also a big Em fan. 😊
You are exactly where you are supposed to be at this exact moment. And I for one am happy and grateful that that we get to share this moment with you. Thank you for being here! ❤❤❤
I love REN✨ I love all his music I enjoyed your reaction glad your back I love the song Humble with Eden Nash so incredible can’t wait for you to hear it 🔥🎶✌🏽 🥰
I always find it really difficult to stick to a melody when doing harmonies instead of ending up singing the same. Especially if you have to pay attention to anything else but what you’re doing. But look at them. Singing right at each other and feeling the music and lyrics. And still making it look easy to harmonise. Blows my mind.
Chinchilla has recently taken the decision to go independent. As such she deserves support and recognition from everyone who likes her music. @Cliff Beats She is also hinting at a new single release coming soon!
I cannot believe we withheld this one from you. It is one of the masterpieces. I think only Violet's Tale hits that hard. Maybe Crutch. Did you find Penitence, yet?
As usual, great reaction. As for "How to Be Me," Ren's best friend, Joe Hughes, committed suicide; Ren alluded to it in one of his songs, stating that he lost his best friend before he was 25. The pain of this loss is evident in a few of his songs, "Freckled Angels" being one examples. It is dedicated to Joe Hughes, who committed suicide on the 27th of December, 2010. Someone else commented that the video was shot at the bridge that Ren's friend jumped from. His body was never recovered. Their live performance of "Chalk Outlines" is still my favorite song, partly because I can relate to it due to my own daily struggles. Although, losing your best friend to suicide is also something I experienced when I was 19 y/o (almost 38 years ago). “How to Be Me” definitely runs a close second, though. I would also recommend their busking sessions in Brighton, performing “Sexual Healing” (Marvin Gaye cover) and “One Dance / Drunk in Love” (Drake/Beyoncé cover); those performances are of a much lighter mood and very enjoyable.
@@MizCriz46 Thank you for the info. I actually learned a few weeks ago that the video was not shot on or near the bridge and have indicated that on subsequent comments. Thanks again for your reply.
