For those who ask why every VW is borring, simple shaped and does not looks like rest of modern cars - that's the answer. The car durability and savety level is related to it's shape. And of course material used etc... But everything begins in shape.
In car magacine was written, the Golf was tested in Dec. 2019 and reach 5 Stars because from 2020 on the testing was improved and the Golf does reach only 4 Stars in basic version. Very tricky.

It doesn’t matter, a the crash structure is already compromised. Any further hit will directly transfer to the passengers. If the door opens that at least is a good sign of rigidity of the chassis. Some american manufacturers seem to use noodles as metal, you won‘t be able to get out of the car after a crash. That won’t be a problem here at least. I also believe this to be an anomaly. Test it 5 times, get 3 different results...

In my country they did a crash test with a VW Up year 2013, and it only started to be manufactured in the country in 2014. VW made a splash in its marketing. I saw many car test. And saw how car roof bend down in half. Or car chassis brake down. Or car door bend down. Or windscreen brake. So now what I see. I see safety cars. Vw go straight to the wall and car roof still good. Windows still okay. And doors good. Not damaged. Car body are flexible. I have vw golf mk5 2008. Two doors. And when I drive on the field or bad road I can hear the car body moving. And That why my car has a lot of space between door and body. I start hear this when I resealed my car. So car it's flexible and that why crash test show good results of the accidents.
Car industry should test cars now with 25% increased speed as standard ...then we would see from 5 stars to 3 or less! And this would force the car industry to make them even more safer!

Same happened with the new VW Sharan. Do not get me wrong this was not such a bad crash test, but I hate people bashing down Volvo and saying that it has lost its safety. And on top of that the seats have much lateral support, in contrast to french or italian cars, where you're basically sitting on something more a plank than a seat. So this is how to get 5 stars, bec. the door keeps being solid and nearly undeformed. In case of a second inpact, the door would just be pressed into its frame, and there you go again. If the door wouldn't be torn out of its frame, the deformation would spread to the entire chassis, and that would be the worst scenario imagineable. This way the door have enough space for its deformation, and the chassis keeps being a chassis, doing what it does - protect the cabin, and not get ripped in two parts, like your hallowed french or italian car, that couldNt even turn a corner without destructing itself. Okay, maybe it ain't that worse, but an opened door isn't as critical as you may think. As long as it still exists and not get torn out of its hings, it's fine.
