Dessication should be a tool when needed... used to dessicate flaxseed but tend to swath it more since thats what buyers prefer and give a premium.
A lot of chemicals showing up in the food chain I think is more from dessication as it doesn't have the time for mother nature to rinse it away.

Looks to be forage peas, yellow peas and then the majority of greens.

You guys sure got shorted on the moisture there. My peas are just getting ready to go, probably swath once it quits raining, but we had some timely rain that kept them going. Nothing wrong with a swather, we’ve got both a header and a swather. Depending upon the year we use one or the other. But we rarely desiccate any grain.

      @@chadtosh6831 yeah we could
Have used a few extra showers, but stuff is alright considering, I don’t know what to say about canola. Made a big windrow but I suspect the yield will be down

Having a swather is very handy, but it's better to straight cut. Your still having to pass with the sprayer at some point , so your adding a extra pass in the field, but not having the proper headers to get the crop come straight cut harvest you run risk of leaving crop behind . That's my take, anyone who gets bent out of shape for having a swather, we have ours still and we straight cut everything . But maybe one year we will need them

I swath every acre I own and it works well. Wheat, canola, barley, oats, and flax. I don’t grow peas (hate them). I don’t even own a straight cut header (and probably never will). There’s a reason guys swathed everything up until 10 or 15 years ago, because it works.

@@damonens9478 yeah we don’t have Draper headers and I’m not sure them auger headers would be the best for straight cutting canola

@millionairefarmer. it's hard to say, my bosses brother straight cut his canola last year with his deere 9600s and auger headers and he faired ok I think . I wasn't in the combine with him maybe it wasn't pleasant. I'll have to ask him one day when I see him

@millionairefarmer. so I talked to my bosses brother and he's gunna straight cut his canola again this year with his 9600s and auger heads. Said it works fine . So anyone who thinks it can't be done It's possible. Pays in the end bigger seed and then your crop isn't flying into the next country like our neighbors. Food for thought . If you are ever down here when we are harvesting give me a shout we can tour you around kneehill county

We have sawfly’s so bad this year in wheat and durum. The sawflies are taking down whole fields, even sawfly resistant varieties.
So many guys are swathing. 😮 You do what you have to do, to get it in the bin.

Makes a difference if regalone is used. Mine were fine if they were sprayed with roundup, but if the peas were sprayed with regalone, they absolutely refused them.

Is that spring sown peas? Is the canola spring sown also? We in Scotland and peas still flowering sown in may and canola harvested 3weeks ago sown in August, spring sown hit or a miss early October harvest. Same over here swathers near disappeared in favour of chemical desiccation but becoming more popular again with some oil plants stipulating no chemical dessication
