  • This is a short time lapse video I made of the removal and re-install of the transmission in this Nissan 350Z. The clutch release or throwout bearing and collar were heavily worn so we replaced both parts as well as the spring clip.

Gives me a good idea what I'm in for when I do a clutch service on my sons 2003 Z. Good video.

Not me thinking it would only take me 6 minutes to replace my TO bearing until I read the title

Great video. Is there an aftermarket alternative to this release bearing? Is there any manufacturer that makes a more durable one? I have a 2007 350z that I bought new. The release bearing was replaced once under warranty, maybe around 25k miles. I have 77k miles now and it's been noisy for years so it probably went out again at around 60k miles. Any idea why it wears so quickly? my car looks great, but sounds like a POS sitting there idling. How many hours is this work? I'd really like go get mine done again.

It's really not a bad job at all as long as you have a lift. It only took about 4 hours to have it completely done. Depending on the clutch it's just one of those items that seems to wear fast. Clutch pedal adjustment can have a big effect on it as well. This was an OEM replacement but I do know they have plenty of aftermarket alternatives available.

Nice video, looks like they slapped on a stock 370 exhaust to keep it oem Nissan

I'm not sure exactly what exhaust was on it but it was nice not having to drop the entire exhaust to remove the trans.
