To put this recording in to context...I watched this gig at Glastonbury. they played 'Ace of Spades' before this tune. Lemmy said something like 'This is the only song you'll know' to the crowd. played ace of spades, then I think he sang the ace of spades part again to see if anyone noticed, hence his little smile when he started singing the right words to overkill.
Normally I'd be complaining about Phil turning his back on the crowd during a song, because I hate when performers do that, but the fact that he did that in order to hide that he was talking to Lemmy about it just shows his experience.
Obviously there were sound issues on the stage, and really the thing that separates Overkill from Ace is the drum patterns. If he had garbage drum sound in the monitors, it's not a difficult mistake to make, especially when considering the entirety of Motorhead's catalog. People saying this is sad need to remember this is only one fuck up, and for two songs with similar sounds. It's not like he's singing "Sweet Revenge" over "Iron Fist."

the most amazing thing is that after all that lemmy and mikkey dee manage to come in together for the drop out at 2 minutes in!! brilliant. only a great band can recover in a song after something like that, mistakes can fucking happen.

To be fair, I've always thought the songs sounded a little bit similar, in terms of the main riff. And if you're trying to criticise Lemmy, try doing what he's been doing for the same amount of time and still be alive.
Lemmy is awesome. He can play the right song even when the whole band play the wrong one!

That's how they do Overkill. The bass run back after the slowdown is the same as in the intro to Ace of Spades, but that's all.

He probably did it on purpose... They played ace of spades right before this, and before they started this lemmy said "let's see if you get this" or something, he's also playing overkill correctly

Poor guy 🤣 but what two better songs to mix up mashup?! I saw Motörhead live many times and they never put on a bad show any of those times. Even this fuckup still sounds better than 90% of the garbage on tour nowadays. At least this was honest. No lipsync/backing tracks/teleprompter etc. Motörhead was the real deal rock n roll

So what? I'm much younger than Lemmy, and didnt't had a life full of alcohol & drugs, but some times I forget some things. It's a normal thing for a human being, and even more normal when we are tired ou with health problems.
Lemmy's health is not going well, he seems weak and tired, but I believe he only needs to slow down with he's band shows. Instead of play 5 shows a week, if Motorhead played 5-10 shows a month, I think we could have the return of the good old Motorhead, born to kick everybody's asses! And he still would win suficient money to have some strippers boobs in his face.
