Fast Eddie saved me from being ejected from the Glasgow Apollo many years ago. He'd been up in the circle, near where we were sitting, watching Saxon's support slot. There were only about twenty punters in the circle at the time. One of the Apollo's infamous tuxedo-wearing bouncers randomly decided to chuck me out (they did this if they didn't like the band/crowd). I'd just been gripped from behind in a death-lock when I heard this voice that sounded a lot like Neil from the Young Ones, "No man, put him down .." as FE appeared in front of us, flapping his arms. Bouncer grunts and drops me. I go on to enjoy a grass-destroying gig - but I never did get a chance to express my thanks to the massively talented Fast Eddie.
@@longtallskinny9669 it was the age old problem of record company demanding new product as they were trying to milk a good thing. They'd have done better to let the band rest up a bit after No Sleep and take some time over some new songs. They'd been on road constantly for almost 6 years at this point so it's inevitable tempers in the band would be fraying. Eddie was right about the Wendy O' William's single: it 's a steaming pile of crap. That he was forced out over that was a crying shame.
I made a homemade Best Of Motorhead compilation and I had to include almost every song from Iron Fist. I love the diversity of the songs, and they almost all have these really distinctive qualities and great lyrics and melodies.
Didn't realise Fast Eddie is gone. Sad. Can't believe it. I loved Fast Eddie Clarke. Me and my mate Jim bumped into Eddie in Leicester after his sound check by chance as he walked out the back of DeMonfort Hall in the afternoon. What a cool dude. Spoke to us and even remembered us after the gig. He signed my concert programme. Top bloke!
Met Eddie a couple of times in the late 70’s when I was in my early teens. Absolutely lovely bloke who always had time for his fans. Will be sorely missed 😔
I love Eddie's expression when he mentions Speedy and how he was knocking about with them and "having a bit of fun". He's trying to suppress a smile and there's definitely a twinkle in his eye. Would love to have hung out with those fellas. Eddie's stories are awesome.
I think he’s my favourite guitarist ever because when he left and I discovered a band called fastway I went I love this guitar on the album and I found out many years later that it was him 😊
I have just learned of Eddie's passing, and I'm in shock to hear it. He did a European tour just this past Summer as Fastway with his old friends Girls School. He said in an interview several months ago that he wanted to tour the US one last time, and it would probably be next year. He admitted that he had advanced Emphysema from years of cigarette smoking, and was getting out of breath and tired easily. He also admonished people to quit smoking. I think he knew he didn't have long to live, and was saying his good byes this way. With COPD, you catch a cold or the flu, and it could be your last one. This is what happened to Eddie. He caught the flu, it went into Pneumonia, and he died. He was one of the most underrated guitarist in the business. So long old friend.
My mum died from complications due to COPD from smoking. Small cell lung cancer that then developed in to Sepsis. Defeated a couple of times, but it came back and the system was just too weak and the Sepsis was resistant to anything nuking it, even with all the antibiotics. It wasn't so much the cancer, it was the susceptibility to infection. mum RIP 1954-2019
I think the great thing about Motorhead (as well as their awesome music)- is that they are just normal-living-people without the pretentiousness of being in a band!
Footstompin' Leroy Scott hit the nail on the head.. such a cool loose blues style over frantic metal with the others. RIP fast Eddie.. he’s become a major guitar influence
@@benbarclay8603 And it wasn't just the fast, blues-based licks, it was the energy behind them. The energy level and tonality of Fast Eddie's playing matched Lemmy's bass chords and sound perfectly.
I was lucky enough to receive facebook messages from Eddie Clark shortly after Lemmy passed away, what an amazing guy, miss the presence of those 3 diamonds.
I used to go to sleep listening to these guys on headphones whenever I had a night watch coming up. The best way to drown out the noise of your messmates during the day!
Thanks for all the fun, music and energy Eddie - unique, loud and unbelievable when it began. Just amazing. No point saying Rest in Peace really as you will obviously not be doing anything peaceful with the three of you together now .....

Back in 82, when Eddie left the sacrosanct Motorhead's 3rd trio formation, everyone was calling him a ''traitor'', when actually he had given his best for M and even decently produced Iron Fist ( listen to it again - it's a chockfull of perks, that is). Clarke was visibly on the level and a dedicated musician, but out of musical differences come apocryphal stories of treason and backstabbing that just weren't there in the first place. if there is any musician who has clearly laid down tracks for forthcoming lute players in M, that was Fast Eddie Clark. Robbo, Würzel, Phil Campbell all had their own personal attributes as M's axemen and their craft helped building the legend, but as deep as guitar blueprints go in Motörhead , Eddie was the culprit, not Larry Wallis.

I love motorhead with fast edde and philthy. They are just not the same without them. They were so freaking good. Not half S good without those two guys though.
Eddie is my favourite member of Motörhead. People mostly focus on Lemmy or Philthy or Mikkey but out of all of em, I'd like to have a few drinks with Eddie the most.
Hard to believe the Ace of Spades lineup are all dead. Brutal.
