When I worked for a fish purveyor, we marketed this fish as Mero. One of the best tasting fish I've ever eaten. The cheeks of this fish is best grilled.
It’s one of the best tasting fish there is. Despite what this video says Chilean Sea Bass/toothfish has been one of the most popular species of fish to eat since at least the late 1970s.
Agreed! I recently asked my local food market if they had any sea bass, the fish clerk came and stood beside me and softly, almost under her breath, said,' I can order it for you but its $65/lb'!🤑🤣
Come On. There a few fishes that are worthy too. List 1. Soon Hock (Fresh Water) 2. Silver/Golden Promfret (Steam) 3. Cod Fish 4. Saba Mackeral (Grill) 5. Wild Cat Fish (Fresh Water) 6. Red Garoupa 7. Dragon Tiger Garoupa (Sea Farm) 8. Flat Fish (Korean & Other Part Of The Sea) 9. Stingray (Grill on Banana Leaf with special chilli & spices sauce), 10. Black Cod and other species not in my knowledge.
Very high in Omega 3 fat no doubt (DHA, EPA) so very nutritious. In that deep cold water the blood needs to circulate for cellular respiration hence the antifreeze omega 3’s. Unfortunately very slow growing & hence the overfishing of the species!
It's expensive because you let restaurants and "influencers" tell you how good it is. I'm 68. This fish didn't exist 10 years ago in markets and restaurants.
Background cheesy music, and calling it “sea base” on several occasions, makes it seem like an HR video for a fast food worker on his first day…terribly hilarious
computer generated voiceover, and a mish mash of video from other content creators. You see a lot of this for hotel properties too. Generates easy money for the channel.
It is so expensive because it is so delicious. I remembered the price was $1.99 when it just came in to US.A..... Even in 2002, I could buy Chilean Sea Bass at $3.99.... The real name is Patagonian Toothfish, but nobody wanted it in the U.S.A., so they called it Chilean Sea bass to get some attentions in the U.S.A..... It is expensive is not because it is hard to catch. Many other fish are just about same hard to catch. It is expensive is because it is delicious, the demand is high. Just like Lobsters used to be for slaves and was almost free...
I expected to follow a Chilean documentary, spoken in Spanish, so far I know Chile's language. I was mistaken. Maybe the idiom is now the American variant of Shakespeare's language. But the authors of this video are not Chilean. I understand that this fishing resource probably belongs to American, whose voracious market explains the risk of depletion of the species. Maybe they are genuinely concerned, if not for ecological reasons, then for, hum, economic motives. Well, everything turns global. God save Chile.
There’s no such thing as a Chilean Sea Bass…. It’s a marketing scheme for a cold water bottom fish! Better reference…. True fish n chips is dogfish that are a fisherman’s nuisance that taste better than a lot of sought after fish….
This is another marketing video. I only see once chilean sea bas offered in a restaurant. Most restaurant are selling imitation sea bass. So i dont think this fish is over fished, its just over prised
"Chilean Sea Bass" (Patagonian Toothfish) was a marketing scheme by fishmongers in California to rename a fish that no one wanted to eat ! In the late 80's I was in Cabo at a hotel that had just opened (right on the water and super exclusive) and their menu included "Chilean Sea Bass"... one of the most incredible fishing areas in the world and they are importing fish ? The world of marketing & advertising... lies, lies and more lies ! (Exactly like politics today world-wide)
This is why marine mammals ( orcas are starving to death ) because greedy commercial fisherman taking away most of the food sources these animals need to survive.
It’s really overrated , the meat way too soft and flavorless. I rather have any species of grouper , halibut or snapper if you like Black Cod ( Sable Fish ) you might enjoy it.
When I worked for a fish purveyor, we marketed this fish as Mero. One of the best tasting fish I've ever eaten. The cheeks of this fish is best grilled.
But mero is grouper
@@fjp3305 maybe where you're from 🤷🏽♂️
There is no other fish to compare to Chilean sea bass by far the best fish I ever ate
Try some Black Cod or Sable Fish, its also very good!
Who would've thought a visit to the processing factory could be so exhilarating? ☺
So call it Patagonian Toothfish again so the demand falls along with the price.
That's what I thought
This type of fish is really expensive, don't you think?
It's NOT Sea Bass. It's real name is Patagonian Toothfish. They market as sea bass to sell more of it in the US.
It says so in the video. You didn't watch it??
Duhhhhhh. They only mention that 6 times
It’s one of the best tasting fish there is. Despite what this video says Chilean Sea Bass/toothfish has been one of the most popular species of fish to eat since at least the late 1970s.
Thanks, Professor
Also long lived and slow to reproduce. Orange Roughfy has 1 st spawn at 28 years, usually not successful. LIKE MINING 😢😢😢😢😢
A 5 to 7 minute video just repeating the same thing in various manners.
I've tried this fish once in my life and never enjoyed another fish like it ever again.
Agreed! I recently asked my local food market if they had any sea bass, the fish clerk came and stood beside me and softly, almost under her breath, said,' I can order it for you but its $65/lb'!🤑🤣
i THOUGHT IT WAS CRAPPY too rich and fatty
Have you had black cod? They're usually in Japanese restaurants but it's right up there, maybe even better than Chilean sea bass.
@@deenyc1049 thank you, I'll look for black cod!

A great insight into the world of high-end seafood!
Dover Sole and Chilean Sea Bass are my favorite
0:50 "Some of which are based???" TF does that even mean 😂
How many time is he going to explain the name change?
Perfect fish processing, friends,
I don’t think I have ever eaten it. Looks yummy
Expensive but delicious fish.
You did an excellent job with this video
Good job. It’s repetitive as f.
Another Great Video.
At the high rate of consumption and harvesting, this species is doomed to extinction.
I've had it once. Very good. Reminds me of Sablefish. Another pricey catch.
Their knife techniques are professional

Corvina (sea bass) off the coast of Ecuador is much cheaper (in Ecuador) and just as delicious. Not sure if it’s exported, though.
11:30 These sailors cut them very skillfully, the fish meat was very delicious and not broken.
I like Chilean Sea Scallop !!!!!
It's expensive because you let restaurants and "influencers" tell you how good it is. I'm 68. This fish didn't exist 10 years ago in markets and restaurants.
This video had the effect of me wanting to eat it.
American farmers leverage cutting-edge food industry machines to streamline agricultural processes and meet the demands of modern food production.
Chilean Sea Bass...from the UK?
Was the audio done by a computer for this video? If not, why did that guy keep say Sea BASE and not BASS every once and a while but not all the time?
Obviously

I think I heard Chilean seabass at least 200 times
Buttery taste ,ftw
We human are destined to destroy everything that’s a love including ourselves, so sad
This guy said it was pushed into extinction. So I stopped watching the video. Fish already went extinct
Commercial fishing messed it up
It’s a horribly ugly fish, but tastes SO GOOD!
"I'm like a Sea Bass. I'm just Chilean."
There's agreat book on chilean seabass titled Hooked. It details the history of the fishing and poaching of the species.
We eat it raw with wasabi and soya sauce.
lol what is a sea base.
Yes, this.

It’s fine to fish for these them but from the looks of it technology and typical human greed will crash the fish stocks. Same story around the world.
looks like cod fish?
The real name is Patagonian Toothfish.
Wrong
No shit Sherlock!!
It won't be long before synthetic seafood takes over!!!
Patagonian Sea Bass. That's a better name.

It's not necessarily a Chilean fish. I see a lot of these sold here in the US where the country of origin is France or the UK.

Isn’t this silver cod?
Pay attention to title lol
