MuseScore 3 is a free music notation software that you can use to create professional quality sheet music as well as musical exercises, lead sheets and musical recordings. I hope you enjoyed this complete beginner's tutorial on using MuseScore. I use the latest version 3.6.2.

I am challenged to relearn MS after not knowing it well and then not doing it! This is wonderful and very clear. I will need to slow it down to follow along, then your lovely voice will be wonky, but I can deal with that. I humbly suggest talking slower and this learning experience will be vastly improved.

Using Pitch Bends on the melody in a synth line is also making the chords bend too. Does anyone know how to bend only the melody line and leave the chords alone?

Question. Do you know of a music software program other than Encore that is "screen" driven while Musescore and Finale that are 'menu" driven? For examaple, in Encore, I can adjust every bar lines' spacing by clicking on the very top of a bar line and drag it left or right to add space to a measure?
It appears Passport, the maker of Encore, may never convert the program to 64 bit architecture, needed by the newer Mac operating systems.
Can you offer a(some) suggestions? Many many thanks :-)

II have a big problem: When I try to wrote multiple parts on a single staff, the software defaults to the line with the larger duration. There is no independence of each line. I think it may have to do with those numbers (1-4) which are located on the far right top corner of the page. I cant seem to figure out how to produce multiple lines on a single clef without it always defaulting to the larger duration. I hope this makes sense.

I think I've watched all your videos and have found them to be valuable beyond measure, so thank you. But for the life of me I cannot find how to add ritardando or rit. to the end of a piece. There must be something I've missed because it's not on my master pallett.
How do I disable auto formating the notes. Annoying, bcos I have to rewrite old score. I can't write 2 same notes on the same line.
I don't have the N option. It appears as a pencil and when I click where I want the notes, nothing happens. If someone could help, that would be much appreciated.

Thank you for the video ive had this on my linux install for ages took one look at it and noped out, this has gotten me started for the first time in using it. i have a question for you. ive gotten really good messing with midi on fl studio but no matter how many times i go through a video or try to read a book on sight reading/notation my brain just seriously shuts down... i really want to learn it with all my heart but i get confused super quick and the brain just has this meltdown.. so my question is can i use MuseScore to learn sight reading/notation?
Hello, Kyle. I have been struggling for a long time to achieve something I need for a special instrument, using my MuseScore. My scores are all quarter notes, advancing one by one with the > key on my computer keyboard. I need my notes all to be 20 seconds long after I hit the >. The following note will play when I release the > and hit it again (just as a piano). That way I set the note duration “manually”.
Tempo Stretch doesn’t work since notes will be advancing automatically if the > is kept pressed.
Can you kindly help with this issue?

So I'm not new to Musescore, But I am new to the concept of VST. I want to improve the sounds of my music and I'm trying to figure out about these VST software applications. One has caught my eye, JABB 3. So if I purchase and install this product, Will musescore recognize it and then use the sounds directly from that application? I would be able to use the musescore mixer to assign instruments to the JABB instruments? I don't want to make a significant financial investment into something only to find out it doesn't work the way that I am thinking it should. Any advice on using VST with musescore would be helpful.

please help...when I first started using MuseScore the palette was at the left like on your video. Today when I opened MuseScore, it is not there. The only way to access it is to click on view, master palette. But every time I click on my score the palette disappears again. How can I get to be always be displayed on the left?

Yes you can. Select the notes you want to change their head, and in the palette, find "notes heads" and select the one you want :-)
My program doesn't have the toolbar with view or an option to find pieces online, is there a way to update it or get a different version? I got mine "free" (included with tuition) for my music theory class

Great video and great explanation. Tho I tried to simply re-write a piece that's on PDF and I can't seem to be able to transcribe the coords completely, for example : there's 3 half-notes on top of each other and a quarter note on top of that, but I cannot add the quarter note, it switches the whole coord to quarter notes. Any tip on that?
You gotta use multiple voices in those cases

Thanks for fantastic video that helped me immensely when first trying out Musescore! I’ve got two questions though. 1. Is there a way to get Musescore to show the name of every note (preferably on top of the note), that would help my beginner students alot? 2. When i choose a ”concert snare drum” it sounds like a ”tom-tom”, are additional plug-ins required for every instrument to sound correctly?/ Thanks Izak
I love your tutorials, but I can't figure out this one thing. And I'm sure it's easy. I want to move one measure up from one line to the one above?
Select the whole desired measure and then use the arrows on your computer to go up or down(it goes a half step each time)

The information was good, well explained and demonstrated, but I had to backtrack several times. Why? I found you went too fast. A slower pace would have been more comfortable for me.
Try this! I’m on RUclips on an iPad. I go up to the upper right corner of the display. I touch the upper right corner with my stylus (finger?). The RUclips menu comes up. “Tap touch” the 3 vertical dots. Second from the bottom is the “playback speed”. Touch slower than normal. Maybe .75 speed? Maybe .5 speed? Yes, the presenter is faster than I can keep up with also.

The notation software works entirely offline.
There is no page limit (though you might experience some slowing down on larger scores)

Select the measure with the chord symbol that you want to transpose, hit tools, transpose then select how you want to transpose (I like to transpose by interval)
I'm trying to put in a semi-breve rest for a whole bar's rest in 3 4 time. It just insists on a dotted minim rest.
Just got it. Select whole bar. Delete. Yeh!
way to pput rests: find the length you want your rest to be. (e.g. if you want it to be one count you can choose crotchet)
the, select the dot thing (aka extend the note by half of it's length.) then, insert your dotted crotchet, select it, and press 0. (0 makes the note into a rest)

This software is TERRIBLE. I've been trying for half an hour to simply delete a note. Every time I do, it creates a massive mess. Absolute trash.

I had the same issue, just change the playback speed. He sounds a little tipsy, but it works!

I answered “Christopher Bird” who asked the same thing. He posted 2 days ago. My suggestion might help. The date now is Sun Nov 21 2020. But I’m on an iPad. Don’t even know if this works on Windows 10 or whatever.

Never even used RUclips on Windows10 so I assume it can slow down speech just like the IPad version of RUclips can. (See my answer to Christopher Bird above. SAY! Got question: MuseScore. Can you select “accordion”. Just started learning accordion. Found out you can just enter the chord in, like Gm. Or GM. Or D7 etc. Sort of like a “fake book” somebody said piano players use in a “Saloon” when customers yell out the song they want to hear. Is there accordion score where you just plug in the chord over the measure, or under the measure. Then not even use the bass clef?
@@ljimlewis Yeah what's great about RUclips you can customize it on any operating device. For some reason I think I came across an accordion plugin a few months ago. I would definitely try the form for that question though :-)
