The teacher that changed my life, was in primary school..grade 6. Mr Kennedy! He was a Ballymena man but I know you are not related, as you don't sound like a County Antrim man!! Thanks for a very concise video. I learned a lot and enjoyed the accent. Homesick in Kaapstad!
I’m brand new to MuseScore so this video was super helpful thank you! I spent an hour working out some things for creating rhythm exercises, but your video has explained so much more that I can now use 😃
Very good, I've learned loads from here. The Screen Capture for example. I can put this in a word document and write the text to what I want as forget too many things. The other thing I use is Nashville Numbers. Didn't even know they were on. Thank you so much. 10 out of 10
Glad it helped! Not sure why the camera icon is not showing. This is MuseScore 3.6. The image capture function was removed in MuseScore 4 (I think there’s a plan to bring it back in a later update though)
very helpful ! I was searching for how to insert ties using keyboard shortcuts, and thanks to the video, I found it. Also handy tips regarding F11 functions
Strangely is when I want to use a frame for text and choose vertical, horizontal or text frame and drag this to the place I want it to be, the cursor hops right back to the frames on the left and doesn't add a text frame.... Anyone who can help me out here?
Great, very helpful! BTW, I used to think you had to zero in on and click barlines, too-but you can actually select anything in a bar (the whole bar, or even one note) and press Enter, and that bar becomes the last in its system. Easy!
Nice job - clear and concise. I also like your understated presentation. If I may make a suggestion, when you brought up the piano keyboard, it showed in transparent mode, and your image was also transparent. I thought that was a good idea. Keep it up - good luck.
I don’t use that myself so not sure about it’s integration. I think I saw something about a drum app integrating with Musescore but can’t remember which one.
Thx for the tips. I have another problem, why musescore put notes I don't want to use. Why is so capricious and where to switch off the automatic note writing? And how to change the sound of reproduction from midi to piano?
Good morning David. if you could help me with smth. i d like to write a patriture accombanied with a tamplature for three string bouzouki. This bouzouki is tuned d , a ,d . Is there a way to create a tamplature tuned D , A ,D and the programme would recognize the note i put on the pentagtamme , and put the right fret, in the tamplature of three strings as soon as a write the note. thanks in andvance
Hi there, sorry for the delay. You may have already found a solution but MS4’s latest update includes considerable flexibility and customisation for tablature notation
I’m not actually sure, sorry. A know this isn’t what you want but you should be able to click the first sustain mark and while holding shift click the last sustain mark to highlight them all and then delete in one press of a button. Not ideal but maybe less time consuming
Nice tips! I'm also wondering how to change the start position of where it starts when you hit play quickly besides just where you left off and at the beginning.
When you use rhythm, 14/4 or 10/8 for example. The shape of the musical notes seems divided in an unnatural way, all of them are connected to each other and are difficult to read. Is there a way to separate them from each other so that they look normal? Thanks
Sometimes you may want three columns of text at the end for additional verses but I never found a direct way to do this. My work around is to select add text -- expression and then click a particular note on the last line somewhere one-third of the way across the page. Then I can get three text boxes which I can arrange side by side. Is there another way? Thanks.
Yeah I think the better way of doing this, that will give you a bit more formatting control is to add an extra bar to the end of the piece. Hit return to get that bat on to its own line. Then insert a vertical frame (from layout palette). If you need three columns I think you can click the horizontal frame to get this to work.
I use a Yamaha Clavinova as a MIDI "play-in" keyboard. When writing a Piano part if I play in a phrase of 3 or 4 part chords, after a couple of bars the chords I'm playing in only partly (2 notes) come out in the stave ! Is this a "bug" Any advice appreciated!
Sorry, I’m not sure about this one. I’ll have a route around and come back to you if I find anything. If you’ve found the solution in the meantime could you please reply here to let us know? Sorry I couldn’t be any help 🤦♂️
@@DavidKennedyMusic Hi David / thanks for your reply - I have got around it by using an old "M-Audio Keystation" midi keyboard I've had for.a.long time - This plays chords into MuseScore perfectly well. Strange because the Clavinova works well with other music software - re: Mixcraft / Sibelius / Cubase etc ! All the best R.
Hi David! Do you know how to write an aleatoric music? I cannot figure it out. As soon as I set a repeat mark it applies to all staves and instruments in score, but I need to edit them independently. Is it possible? I will really appreciate you reply.
Hey, off the top of my head here I'm not sure how MuseScore could handle the playback of an aleatoric score, if that score is truly based on random iterations of sections. In terms of the look of the score and to get an approximation of how sections sounded with the repeats you want, you could use a mixture of horizontal frames, "new section" marks and specifying the amount of repeats required in the inspector (have to double check exactly where this is but I have used it before). For play back of the piece I would highly recommend the use of Ableton (it has lots of ways to incorporate chance/random elements into the music). A workflow could be exporting individual parts and sections of your score from MuseScore and importing those bits into Ableton's session view. Then you could really mess around with sections in a truly random and chance way.
Who can explain how to move quick when entering the chords? I press Ctrl+K and enter, then I use the mouse to select the next note. But on the video the author moves to the next note with some keys.
I just installed MuseScore 4 yesterday. I'm a musicien, and althought it free. I've never seen an app so complicated for nothing. I've spend more time figure that non-sense, than actually make music. Love the sound of the instrument. But the interface makes no sense. When to check the manuel....don't make much more sense. I might use it for short scoring to use as a sample, but that's about it. Very desapointed of the bref experience, and I don't recommend it to no one. Well if you need a headache, that the go program you need.
Extremely useful tips, thank you. I've learned a lot of good stuff from this video which will save me a heap of time and frustration.🎶👍

What a lovely message! Thanks so much and glad the video helped. Go raibh maith agat! 😊🙏
David. Could you tell me the version of MuseScore you use in this lecture?
There are too many versions of MuseScore each have different features.
Hey, sorry for delay in reply. This is MuseScore 3.6

Hey, if you select a note and hit the space bar it will play from whatever note is selected
@@DavidKennedyMusic Thank you so much I am new to MuseScore and I really needed this!
I got Window, no command key. What should I do? to enter chords. Also, I downloaded the free try not complect everything's as you had.
thank you for tutorials when i have downloaded chordid and chord identiifer unfortunatly thay show uo in plugins but doesnt work

You can group beams however you like in the score properties. Definitely worth a quick search on the Musescore handbook/website

Wow.. informative vdo. Your vdo is crystal clear. Which camera are you using?
Thanks! I use a Canon Eos 200D. I’m not super knowledgeable on cameras so this is just on all the auto settings.
Thank you so much for your prompt reply. This info will be a great help.
Thank you🙂
hmm my musescore only shows the treble cleff, how do i make it show the other one ( for left hand ) underneath it?
Hey, you just need to pick Piano as the instrument. Press “i” on your keyboard and add piano to the score
I can’t seem to find my settings button to turn on the repeats in playback. Help! My score is playing right through them.

Is MuseScore 4.3.2 really free? Or does it have a lifespan and/or some things that it prevents you from doing? Thanks!
Completely free!
I need to remove a measure that was not needed. How do I do that.
Select it then CMD + backspace (Mac)
Select it then ctrl + backspace (Win)
My playback doesnt work and the synthesizer icon is grayed out
When I opened Inspector, it says, no elements selected.
Once you select on a note, or text or anything at all the element selected will appear in the inspector
I don't know how to get si-bemoll acord?
Who can explain how to move quick when entering the chords? I press Ctrl+K and enter, then I use the mouse to select the next note. But on the video the author moves to the next note with some keys.
Hi, yeah space bar will move to each beat of the bar and the tab button moves to next bar.
@@DavidKennedyMusic Great! Thanks! I've also found out that Shift+Tab lets you go back to the previous bar.
Couldn't find inspector in musecore 4..arghhh
Inspector is now the “properties” panel which is defaulted to the left of the screen in MS4
Helpful, but you could get rid of the boopity tick tick background stuff.
I am used to Sibelius for many many years. Swirching over to Musescore Sems to me annoyingly complicared
