That was great, Susan; thank you! I've been using MuseScore for a while now, so I knew how to do most of what you showed, but I learned a few shortcuts I didn't know existed that will be very helpful, so again, thank you! 🙂
It really is! It's also a great gateway to Sibelius, if one is ever interested in getting even more powerful notation software. Many of the shortcuts and features feel similar.

Hi! I'm a longtime Finale user, now migrating to Musescore. Any tutorial on that would be helpful. As you probably know, Finale is going out of business with no further updates or support. Thanks so much! Btw, I mostly write lead sheets with up to four part vocals and chords. Inputting lyrics and font choices as well! :)
Thank you so much for a wonderful guide! I have played the piano since I was 6 and recently found an interest in putting notes on paper! This was THE BEST guide! I cannot thank you enough!
Your video is a model example of how to explain and give tutorials. Great job. Your explanations were very clear, and concise, and I learned a lot very quickly. Now I’m looking forward to using this remarkable software. Thank you so much.
This is exactly the kind of tutorial I needed. How to go fast at it. I may go all in for efficiency and swap the letter notes for keys close to each other, though. I've always had a feeling that it'd be a lot faster to have them in a logical order instead of scattered just because querty. Will have to think how to do it in the least disruptive way though.
Hmm, interesting! I think my brain would have trouble without the qwerty layout. The minute my fingers touch a computer keyboard, my brain turns on to that. Let me know how it goes and if you find a way to input notes even faster!
@@PianoRoadmap I think it shouldn't be that difficult to adapt to. We've already gotten used to durations being side by side. I'm quite sure I can easily get used to pitches working the same way as durations
Thank you! I was just looking for a tool that I could use to customize a daily scale finger exercise I got from someone else. I am exited about being able to transpose and have sheet music for all major and minor scales.
It sounds like you were still in "input" mode. If you type "N", it'll bring you in and out of note input mode. If you're IN that mode, every time you click it'll try to add notes.
As a MuseScore user myself, I must say this tutorial does an impressive job at introducing the viewer to MuseScore. Thank you, Susan! May I ask you how do you record your videos? What equipment do you use? Your room does not seem brightly lit yet the video quality is superb. :)
Thank you! MuseScore is such a great free tool. For my setup, I use the aputure light dome II (www.aputure.com/products/light-dome-ii/) and a Canon (www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1547010-REG/canon_eos_r6_mirrorless_digital.html).
The simplest way I know is to highlight all the notes that you want to shift left, cut it, then delete the desired note/beat and paste your notes in on that same beat. There might be some finessing you need to do as far as making proper note values (sometimes it'll take a previous half note and make it into 2 tied quarter notes, for example), but it should do the trick. Please let me know if you find an easier way, because it's a little bit of a pain! 😅
I am using a PC. For the most part the mac Command key is the CTRL key for me.. but I saw places where you were saying Control + Command... that confused me what mac keys are the equivalent on a PC?
It's probably been 20 years since I've used a PC, so now sure. But I found this handy shortcuts page with Windows actions: musescore.org/en/handbook/4/all-keyboard-shortcuts
@@michel-1-0 No, I don't believe this is possible. You would need some special software to turn the audio file from the youtube video into midi data, then import that into musescore. Even then, it probably wouldn't be very accurate and the arrangement would be hard to interpret.
Wait can you make the grand staff like connected if that makes sense? Like middle C is in between bass cleff and treble cleff instead of going up in the bass cleff indefinitely with ledger lines
If you need more measures than they automatically give you, go to the top menu and click ADD --> MEASURES --> INSERT AT END OF SCORE (or wherever you need them). Then a box will pop up and you can add as many measures as you need.

You're welcome! It's surprising to me that such a helpful tool is free.
For copy and paste I believe you can just select and press R and it repeats the thing right besides the selection.
You can double-click the tempo text until your hand falls off. When you try to type the text (for example, "ballad"), it adds notes.

Thanks! I have a quick question. How do I delete a note/beat so all the following notes shift left ?
