I love the apology for what Nat doesn't know is the greatest Christmas Carol adaptation put to film.
I came to say this lol
Except.... it isn't.
@@bujin1977 It is though. Most people I’ve met will agree with this. You are the first exception.
There's a costume historian on RUclips who GUSHES over this film, and after watching her breakdown of the details in the costumes I appreciate the extra level of love this film was given by it's makers.
@@calvinjohnson6242 Only if you have little regard for the original story.
My favorite component of the human experience is that no matter what age we are, we’re all 100% willing to view the Muppets and Sesame Street characters as real famous actors without a second thought.
Just pure instinctual commitment to the bit.
To be fair, it's a REALLY good bit.
Definitely! :)
Good timing. Muppets aren’t the only thing adults choose to believe is “real”
Merry Xmas and happy holidays!
I was raised where any piece of classic literature can have the main character played by a talking Jack Russel Terrier.
I have some friends that worked on one of the recent movies and on set, the performers stay in character all day. They act like they don't exist and only speak to you through the muppet. For the adult crew, it's a little weird at first but after like fifteen minutes you stop seeing the human performer *at all* and just talk to the muppet like they're real actors on set. And you can still totally see the performer and they're not ventriloquists, you can see their mouths move to make the voice, but your brain just edits them out. For children on set, the suspension of disbelief is instantaneous. As soon as the performer starts making the muppet talk, as far as the child is concerned, the performer vanishes.
I don't know if Nat really expected to hate this movie or what but this intro has such a "I'm SO SORRY this is what we're watching today" vibe. Like it's the holidays, it's a classic, and the patrons voted for it. You really don't have to justify it.
I don't she realises just how beloved this movie is.
Someone off camera is holding a gun to her head.
Yeah it's kind of cringe. Just enjoy the movie, stop tryna be cool
She does this a lot. She praises bad movies too like they are art.
@@LearningDrummerSam don’t think she was tryna be cool 💀 just said they voted for it u overthinking
I adore this adaptation. To me, what makes it work so well is Michael Caine's portrayal. According to the story, he was very into doing it, but from the beginning said (paraphrased), "Listen. I'll play Scrooge but you're going to get a performance like I was at the Royal Shakespeare Company. You won't get zaniness, or silly jokes, or knowing winks from me." So Caine plays Scrooge straight from the book and it's up to the muppets to create the craziness all around him. So very effective.
And the craziness the Muppets create is christmas and family....
As a older millenial who grew up on the Muppets its actually shocking and kind of sad to realize that people even only a little younger than me have only vaguely heard of the muppets and only think of them as a cartoon or something .Glad you did this one as its probably my favorite Christmas movie from my childhood and still rewatch it occasionally out of nostalgia. Also really recommend you watch Muppet Treasure Island with Tim Curry as Long John Silver. Its a good one.
Her intro made me worry about whether she was gonna have an open mind about it either. I feel sad that people look on the Muppets with such cynicism.
@@captin3149 I feel like because it’s puppets, folks look at it like dumb kid stuff. When it’s not the case at all. At least not for this movie.
@@brycealthoff8092 yes, exactly… the Muppets are one of the most iconic group of creations in pop culture. God bless Jim Henson for creating them
Aside from the singing, it’s remarkably faithful to the original.
If you're an elder millennial then she is actually older than you, because Natalie is gen x. I'm pretty sure gen z knows about the muppets but I could be wrong 🤔
This is NOT just some random movie. It's a classic on many levels.
The great thing about this movie is you get the impression that they said to Michael Caine "This is a muppet movie, so feel free to have fun with it", and Michael Caine just said "No, I'm going to play this as seriously as possible", and he kills it in every scene.
That is exactly what Michael Caine said to Brian Henson. He only agreed to do the movie on the condition that he play the role 100% seriously.
Scrooge’s family is actually super integral to who he is. His mother died giving birth to him and his father resented him for it. He also had a sister who he loved dearly and who convinced his father to accept him and mend the relationship. Later, his sister died in childbirth (to the nephew of his we meet) and he resented the child for it in the same way his father resented him. His sister was the biggest reason he found joy in his life and so, when she died, he started disconnecting himself from the world and attachment to his fellow people (including his fiancé who then left him upon his cold turn, which deepened his resentment). What he didn’t hear until he was brought back by the ghost of Christmas past was his sister’s dying words, asking him to look after and care for her son. This revelation prompted him to break down crying and begging for forgiveness from his deceased sister (imo the first big moment of his paradigm shift). I guess this was all a bit heavy for the muppet version 😛
I never knew that. Then again, I've never read the original.
What often strikes me about A Christmas Carol is how quickly Scrooge starts to change. In at least one version, he regrets not giving the kid (the bunny in this version) something, almost immediately upon seeing his younger self.
@@Caseytify so you didn't tak Gonzo's advice (sorry Mr Dickins) to read the Book
Been putting that off for years! What you have said has sparked my interest. I think it’s time I read the book!
That's all from the 1951 film and a few versions that copied it. The original novel didn't say how Fan died. It certainly didn't say Scrooge's mother died in childbirth with him. And Fan was said to be much younger than Scrooge, unable to reach his head. Fan didn't get a death scene either, so she had no "dying words." That's all about as canon as the Muppets adding a second Marley.
Fun fact. There was a song Belle sung to Scrooge in the scene where they break up, and Michael Caine sings along but it was initially removed from the theatrical release and ended up being lost for decades up until this holiday season it was added to Disney+ with that song. The song really ties things together especially with the final song in the movie.
Michael Cains commitment to playing this straight laced, and not letting on for a second that the set is full of puppets is 👌 Top tier. Completely makes the film 🥰
Fun fact this is one of the most faithful and impactful adaptations of a Christmas Carol ever put to screen
Not to mention incredibly period accurate with their costumes!
If I remember right, the Dickens Society regularly praises it for its faithful adaptation and costuming. I always think that kind of praise should silence critics of what is such an amazing movie.
@@ShadowyFox_86 totally agree
@@ShadowyFox_86 that would not surprise me at all and it makes me happy to hear. Also had one of the more believable tiny Tims that didn't go too over the top with it. Which to be fair it's difficult for a child actor to really grasp something like that but a lot of adaptations lean too much into the kid version whereas in the original story tiny Tim is considered wise beyond his years
"You don't have to be a child to enjoy The Muppets, you just have to have a soul."
I'm never really offended or shocked whenever a young person doesn't get a movie or something from my generation. It's not as if I get half of the popular culture they're into now. Just glad you enjoyed this one. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you Nat!
Happy Holidays!
It is widely acknowledged that 'Muppets Christmas Carol' is of _all_ versions, the one with the most accurate period costumes and most faithful (believe it or not) to the source material.
So, remember this festive season, "Light the lamp, not the rat!"
Truly one of the best interpretations of Charles Dickens "A Christmas Carol"!
I’ve seen Muppets, Jim Carrey, and Netflix. Muppets is the best by far, but Jim managed to recover some of the missing horror.
Pretty much unanimously from what I've seen, everyone feels it's the best!
Scrooge (1951) is my family’s go-to and my favourite by far.
This and Alastair Begs version are the best imo.
@@darthcarnage12 100%, the 1951 version is the best version by a long way. It tells the full story, and Alastair Sim is perfect as Scrooge. Next best version is the 1984 George C Scott one.
The Muppet version is a comedy, which is fine. But it doesn't really do anything for me. A Christmas Carol isn't supposed to be a comedy.
What's so funny is people tend to forget that this was written as a ghost story (It was a tradition to tell ghost stories at Christmas in Dickens' time). All of the ghosts in the book are frightening in a way; Marley's jaw dislocates (among other things), Past is knowing and unsettling, Present reveals Ignorance and Want, and Yet to Come is a silent wraith.
I was a little disappointed that the rest of Fred's scene wasn't shown; he's cheerfully exasperated with his uncle, but he doesn't let that embitter him to the only family he has on his mother's side.
So you asked why Rizzo was sobbing so hard. There was a song that Belle sang originally called "When Love is Gone" as she's breaking up with Scrooge. It was cut from the theatrical release, added to VHS, then taken out again when it went to DVD/BLURay. It was only recently restored completely to the film. There's a part at the end where Michael Caine sings along with Belle, showing that that moment still haunts him, hence Rizzo sobbing.
All in all, Brian Henson did a fantastic job of both staying true to the book and adding a Muppet twist to it.
This is honestly my favorite rendition of this story. It's amazing how serious the Muppets even took this story seeing how, prior to this, things would go horribly wrong and chaotic any time they attempted to perform any classic literature on The Muppet Show.
With that said, I'm sure that Brian just wanted to make something special involving his father's work. In case you didn't know from the beginning, Jim Henson (the creator of the Muppets) died 2 years prior to this film's release and it was the first Muppet project done without him.
Thank you for sharing!
That made the line of Kermit's Bob Cratchit after Tiny Tim's death even more poignant. It's almost like it could have been said by Brian about his father.
According to the Dickens Society, this adaptation actually contains the most Dickens. On on another note, you would love The Muppet Movie. It features Kermit singing "The Rainbow Connection" (some lady sang the other song you mentioned).
"i dunno why i'm here i started with star wars and now i've ended up at the muppets a christmas carol" conveniently ignores the fact that yoda and miss piggy are the same dude. you've ended up exactly where you started
I watch this every year! It's a giant nostalgia bomb. Merry Christmas, Natalie! 🎄🎁
Happy Holidays!
I can just imagine Charles Dickens and Michael Caine as they sat down together to write this movie. This is definitely Dickens best work - he wrote the Muppets characters so well!
Bro…you serious?
Adapted screenplay by Gonzo
I hope you don't mean literally
😂
Tf?
This and Muppet Treasure Island are the best muppet movies of all time. RIP Jim Henson. Merry Christmas Natalie 🎄
Yes, Treasure Island was my favorite Muppet movie
Definitely RIP and respect toward Jim Henson, but both Christmas Carol and Treasure Island were actually directed by Jim's son Brian Henson after his passing! And I absolutely agree, I grew up on these two films and I love them just as much today as I did when I was a kid.
@@Gerelos what’s great about them is the actors just treated the muppets as a fellow actor.
Mr Bimble told me so
@@nsasupporter7557 Who would have thought Kermit would make a great action hero?
Just saw this in a theater with the soundtrack performed by a live orchestra. Great way to watch a classic from my childhood
That sounds AWESOME!
This is considered by many the most accurate Christmas Story Adaptation due to Gonzo's narration among other reasons 🤠😁
"And Tiny Tim, who did NOT die...."
@@charleslee8313 I find it very funny that this line is a direct quote from the book
Thank you so much for watching this film, I watch it every year. and although its easy for people to laugh because its the "mupppets" it is actually by far and away the best cinematic version of A Christmas Carol
Fun fact, this was the first Muppet project released after the death of Jim Henson.
And also Richard Hunt, as well, since the movie is dedicated to the memory of them both.
@@TherealRNOwwfpooh Indeed! The original Scooter!
Is this really a "fun" fact though?
Regardless of the story being a classic "Christmas" story, I think this is just a great cautionary tale for the holiday season, and the Muppet twist on it is my favorite version! Happy Holidays Nat!
My family would always gather around the piano and sing Christmas songs as my Grandpa played. That tradition has been going on for probably over 60 years. My Grandpa passed away in 2020, on Christmas Day no less, after a down-turn in health, but definitely not expected. It took a lot of the magic out of the holiday. Music has always been a big part of my family's lives, and we try to keep that going.
My family loves this film. We watch it every year for the holiday season.
Happy Holidays and Happy Hanukkah, to you and yours, Natalie!
Edit: there was a song cut from the movie where Belle sings about how "The Love is gone" from their relationship. It's a sad, but strangely beautiful song, given that Belle's performer has a lovely singing voice. That's part of the reason why Rizzo cries in that scene.
Wait what? Why was it cut from the movie?
@@RachelXKnight666 , it had something to do with Mr. Katzinberg feeling the song was too sad for a children's movie. But then the song was added in the VHS cuts of the film, and then in the blu-ray cuts it was missing again (the Jim Henson Company said they had lost the original negatives of that scene, so it couldnt be re-mastered).
In 2020 or 2021, the negatives were found and are supposedly back on Disney+. But I'm gonna watch the movie tonight to make sure.
@@RachelXKnight666 Disney execs didn't "get it" and thought it would drag the movie down. More's the pity; taking it out saps some poignancy out of the ending, as "The Love We Found" is a reprise of "When Love is Gone."
The original cut of the movie with “When love is gone” can be seen in Disney+ now but you gotta go select it in Extras!!
Awww that makes sense ❤
I feel like the beginning of the video is more Nat projecting onto us her own confusion and hesitance towards a movie with puppets. There seems to be an air of "I really don't want to do this, but I'm under duress, because you guys are forcing me to." Seriously, watch the intro again and imagine someone just off camera is holding a gun to her head.
It's funny to me that she says that we started with "Star Wars" and now we're watching "The Muppets", because I've always jokingly (and lovingly) referred to "Star Wars" as "Muppets In Space".
Yeah, don't do a big outro, Nat. You did enough in your intro.
I kind of got the same vibe. If she didn't want to watch this movie I'm not sure why she put it on her poll.
@@be7e4px She said it's been requested a ton. And clearly one of the coolest things about working as a reactor is that she gets encouraged to try things she wouldn't normally expect to enjoy. 🤷 It's great that she's so open to suggestion & I admire that she didn't disingenuously hide her hesitancy.
@@ItsAsparageese
I’m glad you found enjoyment from her reaction. Sadly I found it more disparaging than hesitant, which kind of killed the enjoyment for me.
@@be7e4px I can understand that. Personally I think disparagement connotes intentionality, whereas people can't help the impressions they've been given in the past/not knowing what they don't know 🤷 Your take is still totally valid though.
Did you continue watching? She definitely enjoyed it & had her eyes opened to the Muppetverse's wonderfulness, so I hope that's encouraging :)
Never actually saw this one, but I love the muppets and your reactions, so I’m here for this!!
You should watch it!
The "Muppetry" was really good. You really needed to have seen the actual "Muppet Show" to recognize many of the Muppet characters. I've always loved the "A Christmas Carol" story. Reading the book also helps. When it comes to the commercialism of the holidays now my sentiments have become "Bah Humbug, to you and yours".
"I've never seen a movie version"
For real? There's literally hundreds of movie adaptations. It may be the book that has been adapted to film more times than any other single work of literature.
The first one I saw as a kid was with Mr Magoo.
This movie is incredible. Best Christmas movie ever, I'll fight people over that.
It'd be better if it had a fight to the death inside an exploding skyscraper, but yeah, I'll give you that.
I've seen this movie every year for over 20 years. Michael Caine only accepted the role of Scrooge under the condition he could play it 100% straight as if the puppets were real people and that's what makes this an exceptional adaptation.
What gets me teary-eyed every damn time is when the Ghost of Christmas part shows Scrooge how he met Belle and their break-up. Caine is so good in that scene, even better when you know the song that was missing for a long time.
In an interview Michael said he wasn't excited to play this role but Disney really wanted him to play Scrooge. He said he would do it only if he could play it like he was performing for the Queen's Royal Theater. They agreed and I absolutely love his performance and the juxtaposition between him and the Muppets. The thing with the ghost of xmas past is that she (yes she) is meant to be formless yet ever changing. In the book it is implied that Ebenezer's father was an abusive drunk and neglected his children. That was the reason he never went home, that and he felt guilty for leaving his sister alone with him. In the Jim Carey version they even hint to this when his sister visits him at school. With the "Thankful Heart" song, every time Brien would yell cut to rearrange the set and re-direct the camera, Michael would volunteer to sing the song from the top because he was having so much fun doing it.
Oh Natalie. XD Apologizing for the Muppets. I don't think you realize how wildly popular they've been with adults for decades! ♥
And the Muppets did start as a way for Jim Henson to become more risky and adult, becourse he didnt want to be trapped in the sesame street child bouble. I wanted to have a more adult franchise too so he would be able to be more exsperimental with his humour.
That sure is a weird way to intro an extremely beloved movie...
This is hands down my favorite Christmas movie ever. It's absolutely perfect how well Michael Cain just plays it completely straight being a perfect to the letter scrooge next to a Muppet cast. Plus Gonzo has lead and he was always one of my favorites
I'm 65 and love the Muppets, and unfortunately Disney does now own the Muppets.. They have other movies you may enjoy, including a darker themed movie called The Dark Crystal. Though not technically a Muppet movie, it is a Jim Henson (creator of the Muppets) movie that stars puppets of his creation. There was also a Dark Crystal series that, unfortunately, only got one season. You may enjoy them all. My personal favorite Muppet thing is The Muppet Show which ran for 5 seasons (1976-1981). It was a variety show with skits and musical number. They always had a special guest, which included the likes of Alice Cooper, John Wayne, Paul Williams (who wrote the songs for the movie you're reacting to), Lena Horne, Vincent Price, Steve Martin, and Debbie Harry (Blondie).
One of the funniest and cutest Muppet movies ever made!
This film is a family tradition of mine. I'm so glad you're seeing and reacting to this. Merry Christmas Natalie.
The producers are so committed to the Muppets being real that during the making of they have the Muppets being interviewed as themselves.
This is the best adaptation of this story. Hands down.
Jacob and Robert “Bob” Marley. 😂
Wow... that intro... It is not a crime to try something different, especially when your audience specifically requests it. I was so happy to see that you were reacting to this excellent movie and that intro nearly drove me away. I was glad to see that you actually seemed to relax and enjoy it for what it was for a bit even if you did revert back to just dismissing it at the end.
This is a superb adaptation of the story, and includes dialog as Dickens wrote it. The costumes as well are authentic to the period. You're missing out if you're skipping Muppets movies because you think they're for kids. The Muppets TV show was also great, with wonderful guest stars each week.
Natalie, you MUST watch the other theatrically-released Muppet films. They're so great. Especially the first three and Muppet Treasure Island. This was actually the first one after Jim Henson died two years prior, and the first one where he didn't play Kermit.
This is the best version of the story because it includes the narrator who actually tells you the words of dickens
The Muppets are a treasure. A treasure. The apologizing at the beginning was hard to watch and not needed, haha.
You should check out the Muppet movie, at the least, someday
Such a classic! One of my favorites and celebrating it's 30th Anniversary!!!! Happy Holidays, Nat!!!
"So, Michael, this is the Muppets, so, go wild. Knock yourself out. Be as silly as you want to be."
Michael Caine: "I am going to play this as if I'm working with the Royal Shakespeare Company. I will be as serious as a heart attack and play _everything_ straight."
And it worked. This is my favorite version of this story that's not the book itself -- and the best lines are from the book!
who would question this choice? everyone knows the only christmas carol that matters is a muppets christmas carol
2 minutes into your reaction, I am realizing you are likely not yet aware that before the movie is done you will, like the rest of us, be deeply moved and crying over fabric puppets. Perfect
You don't know her well enough. She mocked it the whole way through.
Looks like you watched before December 8th. After that date, the Disney+ version features a newly restored song from Belle called 'When Love is Gone'. Jeffrey Katzenburg though it was weak and believed kids wouldn't enjoy it so ordered it cut from the original cinema release. It was restored on the VHS but axed again for DVD was thought lost but was found in the Henson archives and has now been replaced again - but only after December 8th. It's worth a watch as the whole scene is so much better for it and feels less rushed. It also shows the legend that is Michael Caine pining for his loss. BTW talking of Sir Michael, did you spot the shop called 'Micklewhites' ? Maurice Micklewhite is Michaels real name.
Sort of. After the 8th, you could find the "full version" under the Extras tab. Playing the movie from the regular menu will the play the cut version.
@@jessiestory yep, found that out the hard way
For those who don’t know, Ms Piggy is played by Frank Oz. The original Yoda! And also the lawyer who reads the will in Knives Out!
Many of us grew up with the Muppets. Sesame Street was a show we watched all the time. Not only where they entertaining but they were educational as well. Later they became more of a TV variety show and one of my favorite was when John Denver would join them. The Muppet movies came later when their popularity was on a high. So people can laugh and mock them but the Muppet mean a lot to a lot of people.
This has been one of my favorites since it came out in 92. You should make a point to go and watch the song that Belle sings to Scrooge during their breakup scene. It was cut out, and for the first time since the VHS release, has been restored this year on Disney+. It’s heart wrenching, but really shows the transformation of young Scrooge and at the same time the older Scrooge. Happy Holidays!
I had no idea that they cut the song out. Wow
@@RachelXKnight666 I had the VHS initially, with the song in it. When I got the DVD, I couldn’t believe it was gone. When you pull Muppets CC in Disney+, go to extras. That’s where you can play the song and the Complete Movie. It defaults the songless version
@kollie79 30 years did we audiences who watched the VHS release wait
@kollie79 Agreed, it shouldn’t have to be selected. Somewhere there is a documentary or interview, where Brian Henson has had someone looking for that specific clip for the last 30 years. Just so they could put it back in. No idea how that gets lost, but thankfully they found it!
@@DGRussMB It was cut from the theatrical release by Jeffrey Katzenberg, but the compromise Brian made was that it would be in the home releases. When they went to upscale it to HD, the original negative of the cut song had gone missing.
why are you so agianst the movie at first? Its one of the most beloved versions of a christmas carol ever
8:04 Truthfully, back in the setting of where Charles Dickens placed the story, it was not at all unusual for businesses to be open on Christmas. His book, A Christmas Carol, likely helped influence businesses to start closing on Christmas and give employees that time to spend with their families.
I unironically believe that The Muppets version is the most faithful film depiction of A Christmas Carol in terms of atmosphere and emotional trajectory
People really getting mad over muppets? They are so cute. It's like hating puppies.
Ikr? Weird!
Natalie, What...the..fruitcake was up with that opening? why apologise for the greatest holiday movie ever? It's a masterpiece!
Fun fact. The idea of giving people the day off work for Christmas came from, or at least was popularised, by this book. Dickens' publishers thought it would be a flop, so Dickens self published and it was so popular that the book completely sold out by New Years. People loved the book so much they were inspired to give their workers the day off.
Also, this is where "As dead as a door nail" was first coined, and much of the modern Santa Claus is taken from the Ghost of Christmas Present.
In Denmark we pretty much all sing on Christmas Eve, as we “dance” around the Christmas tree 🎄
YES! I've checked your channel every day, hoping you would post a reaction to this, my favourite Christmas movie of all time. I'm so happy!
It's a Christmas miracle! 😁❤💚
I love this movie. Love the Muppets. Love Henson. Why the depressing intro? People voted on this movie because it’s a great movie. And the leap from Star Wars to The Muppets it’s miniscule. Miss Piggy is Yoda, Yoda is Miss Piggy.
After Jim Henson dealt with Muppets, he went to puppet animatronics. He created the Jim Henson Creature shop. It helped create the Jennifer Connelly movie The Labyrinth. He used the creature shop to make the movie The Dark Crystal. Jim Henson Creature shop did the effects on the 1990 Ninja Turtles movie. Jim’s son, Brian took over the creature shop and used it to make an adult Science Fiction series called Farscape with Alien Nation creator Rockne O’Bannon called Farscape. All 4 seasons are on Roku streaming channel. James Gunn was a fan of the show to the point he used the characters as inspiration for Guardians of the Galaxy.
Its definitely an age thing, but to me Mickeys Christmas Carol blows this movie away for Christmas carol adaptations and The great muppet caper is the first and possibly the best muppet movie ever made. Gotta win the Polls thought. Would love you to see "A soldiers Story" for February.
This story is supposed to have the most direct quotes from the book of any production made and it really follows the story pretty accurately. When Michael Caine was asked to be Scrooge people thought he might just phone it in but he said that he would approach doing this as if he was working with the Royal Shakespeare Company. If you want more christmas movies that are different watch Lethal Weapon with Mel Gibson and Scrooged with Bill Murray. That version oddly enough is a love story with light horror and comedy in it. Merry Christmas to you and your people.
She did watch lethal weapon she was not a fan of it which is a damn shame
This was fantastic! I don't know what kids these days are doing but they are missing out if they don't watch classics like this. You should definitely read the novella sometime. It's a wonderful story.
I watch this movie every year with my son, he is now 25 years old. We still laugh at the little rabbit and think it is the best Christmas Carol Movie.
This was such a fun reaction. Happy Holidays Natalie and Cameron 🤗

Spent some time with a Maine farm family in a 200 year old house. For the annual home party there’d be a bonfire in the woods and horse drawn sleigh rides with sterling silver bells. Happiest memories of my life.
As someone who grew up with this movie, I was baffled by the intro. Do people think the Muppets are bad or purely for kids or something?
4:29 Nat: "I love my cocaine!!!" 😅🤣
The puppeteers made the little bunny muppet suffer so much because they thought he was too cute.
This was the first big Muppets project since Jim Henson, creator of the Muppets and Kermit’s performer, passed away. Steve Whitmire, who was Rizzo the Rat and Beans Bunny, was hand picked by the Henson family to be Jim’s successor to Kermit. Richard Hunt, who did characters like Beaker, Statler, Sweetums, Scooter and many others had passed away from complications to AIDS just before this went into production. At the time of Henson’s death his company was in the process of selling to Disney. Disney would own the Muppets but Henson would still be in charge. He just wouldn’t have to deal with the money stuff. Because it seemed like the deal was all but done, Disney produced several Muppet programs and movies. The deal eventually fell apart and a German finance group bought the Muppets. They made Muppets From Space and several TV specials. Disney eventually acquired the Muppets in the mid-2000s though they didn’t really know what to do with them. They’d do little RUclips videos and the occasional TV movie but nothing much was going on with them. Enter Jason Siegel, fresh off the movie, “Forgetting Sarah Marshall” and people were asking what he’d like to do next and he said he wanted to make a Muppet movie. The press thought he was being funny but he was serious and eventually made a deal with Disney to write and star in “The Muppets” in 2011.
As for Sesame Street, they were also part of the Muppet family and would have the occasional crossover. Kermit was a regular on Sesame Street and even Rolf the Dog made appearances on the show in the early days (pre-Muppet Show). However, when the real with Disney was going down, Sesame Street got restructured into their own company with sole ownership of their characters. Kermit was no longer able to appear on the show and they could not be in any Muppet shows or movies. They did however retain the right to refer to the characters as Muppets as well. This was in honor of Jim Henson’s legacy.
When is gonna be MORBIN TIME?
They recut this film and cut out the most important part (which Michael Cane also said was the most important part/when his character changes) - the song between him and his past love. Disney thought it was too sad for their audience, but it's really beautiful. I just wish versions now have it back in
the uncut version is in the extras on Disney+
I didn't even know they did that. I'm glad my old VHS copy of this movie has that song in it! Won't ever get rid of it now. X)
@@xzonia1 I didn’t know until now either. What a stupid decision to cut it out
@@RachelXKnight666 Yeah, and it's frustrating cause reactors are missing it most of the time
I finally saw the version with "When Love Has Gone" yesterday, and including that song makes the film so much better, partly because it actually makes the scene where Belle leaves Scrooge more emotional, but also because it makes the final musical number "The Love We Found" even more powerful
My brother and I, even 25+ years later, still say "thank you for making me part of this" whenever we do or say something to each other that could be considered rude by others lol
You may not know but the Muppets started on Saturday Night Live. It's always been very smart, very adult, very quickly and witty.
The Muppet Show on TV in the 80s have the same audience that Rick and Morty does now. All Columns.
The Muppets take Manhattan would be your favorite. That's where Rizzo came from, it's got the best song in the series, the most cohesive storytelling and a ton, a metric ton of oldschool New York comedians and Broadway talent. Joan Rivers, Liza Minnelli, Art Carney, Elliott Gould, Gregory Hines even the old mayor Ed Koch. It's a real love letter to the city when the city needed a love letter.
By far the best adaptation of A Christmas Carol! Nat had no clue lmao! I’m typing this as she’s apologizing and can’t wait for her to be shook! 😂
Edit: I was underwhelmed by the reaction if anyone was wondering lol
Same. Very underwhelming.
If there's one thing you should know when it comes to Muppets, is that all of their movies are musicals.
Also did you watch the extended director's version on Disney+ after it came out a couple of weeks ago or did you watch this before that? Because there was another song when Belle left which is what made everyone cry in that scene. That explains why it's a little jarring to see her walk away and everyone is crying when they weren't a minute before.
one of the best! THX - merry christmas gurrrl! x
When I was a kid, we weren’t allowed to watch ANY television on Christmas Day. Until the Muppets came along and my father’s Muppaholism made him lift the ban for a bit of festive Fozzie.
NICE
Hope you had a wonderful Hanukkah!!
Have you put The Legend of Korra in a poll already? I want to become a Patreon just to vote for it hahahahha
It has only been in 1 poll so far but lost out to Arcane :)
Sadly it feels like Nat is gonna be another one of those reactors who'll only watch avatar the last airbender but not legend of korra, it's honestly kind of sad
@@daurydavis3983 She has expressed interest in watching it and knows how many fans of the show there are amongst her viewers so it just needs to win a poll :)
@@danishprince2760 she should watch it, if she keeps doing polls than LoK is just gonna keep getting pushed down the list
@@daurydavis3983 Then it will get pushed down the list. I love Korra and would love for her to watch it but the way her channel works is that the Patreons (the vast majority of times at least) votes on what she watches :)
This and the Muppet Treasure Island are core memories from growing up in the 90s (Like Labyrinth and Dark Crystal, or even Fraggle Rock). Major nostalgia these days and my little brother with special needs still watches it often.
I know it seems goofy but it's actually probably the best adaptation of this story and extremely well done,, yeah it's a silly premise on the surface but it makes the story beautiful and relatable to everyone everywhere
Hm, Natalie seems to almost be embarrassed to show us Muppets? I don't think anyone's surprised, I don't think anyone's down on this movie, I'm curious why Nat opened with so many... excuses?
I'm honestly confused by this reaction. Your thumbnail and intro suggest you don't understand why your viewers voted for this one. Also, that you weren't really into it. Yet your reaction while actually watching the movie makes it seem like you enjoyed it. I think you need to be prepared that your older viewers love stuff like this and will definitely vote for it if you put it up as an option (myself included). If you put the documentary about Mr. Rogers (not the movie with Tom Hanks) up, I bet it would do well too. It's "Won't You Be My Neighbor?" and is currently on Netflix.
perfect reaction video for the end of January! ❤
(I am still looking through your backlog of uploads after subscribing and i love this movie)
Happy Holidays, Ms. Gold. Thanks for all the cheer. ✨
Ayo! Im too early lol
With the various opening comments, I'm feeling judged for liking this movie. 🙈
I've seen stage productions of A Christmas Carol, as well as various movie versions, both live action and cartoon. The Muppets one is my favourite.
Next Muppet movie has to be Muppet Treasure Island. Probably my favorite Muppet movie ever!
