    Just a few facts:
I learned to play piano, like my sister, in the wake of my father's death - it was an instrument he loved.
It's been extremely hard to play for me after playing my sister and I's favorite song on the piano at her funeral.
Today, by chance, babysitting my mom's dog for the first time this year, I started playing again, on that very same piano, after not playing for nearly a decade, for hours, after it was brought up in priesthood that nobody could play piano - but me!
I just finished playing and looked at my phone and saw that this was posted.
    I'm being baptized this Saturday.
Thank you all involved who produce and publish these videos!

My Grandfather bought a piano on credit prior to the Great Depression so his 2 oldest daughters could learn to play the piano. When the depression came, there wasn't enough cash to take care of the family's basic needs and make the payment on the piano. When he told the owner of the music store to come get the piano because he couldn't make the payment, the owner of the store, knowing of the 2 daughters and the fact that he couldn't sell the piano anyway, told my grandfather to keep the piano and pay when he could. That piano was in my Grandfather's front room when he passed away some 56 years later. At the time of his death, there were 60 piano players among his posterity including me. One of those aunts and a younger sister who came to the family after the depression used to play organ and piano duets in our church services where I grew up. All 3 of my aunts had organs and pianos in their living rooms as did their brother, my father. They all tried to carry on the tradition of teaching their children to play the piano. We have done the same. Granddad used to say that a musician was made on dad's wallet and mom's persistence. True words. This video really hit home for me. Thank you.

There is a /lot/ of symbolism in this video that's just beautiful. Think about yourself as the piano. Heavenly Father created you to help others see the potential inside themselves by serving them (being played). Then sometimes you're alone and no one really wants you, or you go through a really hard trial, and then Heavenly Father, maybe through the Church or someone else, lovingly recreates you and paints you with white. So your sins are no more, and you serve others ceaselessly.
Yeah, so that's my theory. I just really loved the part about painting the brown piano white after fixing it up, I saw a lot of symbolism and our own transformations in that.

A year ago, I gave my grandson a keyboard to keep himself busy. Later, he started on the piano. Now is composing his own songs and he taught himself. Probably will get a teacher soon. Told my husband, we bought that piano for a reason. His music warms my heart.

When my parents passed the hardest thing emotionally to sell was my Mothers piano. Not one of the six kids needed it and it didn’t hold great value but when I think of the joy it brought to my Mother it was priceless. She lost her hearing in her older age from a stroke but for some reason she could still play that piano. She couldn’t hear the music but I believe she could feel it. When I think back on the hundreds of times we circled my mother around her piano and sang Love at Home it brings tears to my eyes to see a old piano like that. When we sold her old piano to a younger couple I took the young lady by the hand and shared with her the legacy of love that she was taking home and to please remember my mother when she played it.

I’m just now handing down one of my 4 grand pianos to my daughter. She needs it. She’s now teaching almost full time. This was making me cry as i looked down at my not quite so young looking hands. But the white paint!! Now how can you just cover up generations of use? Wipe away the memories!? I just noted to be certain to mention in my will that there will be NO PAINTING!
I have 8 children who all learned to play on this piano. I have concert grands and a very nice Clavinova...all kept in pristine order. My biggest fear is that the younger generation will not treat it with such respect. The lessons learned at the piano are the lessons of life. I’m opening a new chapter in my book. Learning yet ANOTHER lesson from my beautiful pianos.

As a pianist myself, I too was deeply moved by this video. I have an old baby grand upright piano at home. I call it my "Shining Starr." It was built in 1947 by the Starr Corporation. When I got it, it was, as ironic as it sounds, purchased from DI and made out to be a restoration project. The gal who gave it to me did not have time to work on it, and when I saw it, I immediately loved it and told her I had to have it. I then had it moved to my home because it reminded me of the story of the old violin, where a master took a hold of it, tuned it, and then played it to its maximum potential. Thus increasing its value and worth, when others did not see it having any potential. Like the violin, my piano was battered and bruised and way out of tune. It also had some broken keys and mallets. I didn't care though. I took it anyway. A week or so after that, I hired a man who spent 6 hours repairing, tuning, and loving this piano. Before beginning his work, He spoke lovingly to it as he said "You're a beauty aren't you?" after this he began. I watched him work as he gently, delicately, and finely tuned & repaired this piano. I was touched then, even as I am now to realize the worth that we both saw in this piano which has made it look and sound its best. As he finished, He began to play "Let it be" by the Beatles. After that, I marveled at how much more beautiful it sounded. It was after this that I learned its history. I also learned that my piano has a spirit that lives in it. I don't know who's spirit it is, but it has one. I have felt this from the very first day I set eyes on it. As a result of this, I speak to my piano to let it know how much I appreciate it. In fact, I promised it from the first day, that I would help it sing again. I have kept that promise, up to date and it does indeed sing again. I composed a song as a tribute to this specific piano that I play entirely by sound, and from memory entitled: "Mystic Dreams" A melody inspired to follow one's dream and to make life musical regardless of difficulty or whatever damaging storms one might encounter. I'm still working on restoring this piano, and I won't stop until it is finished. Thanks for this video, and reminding me of a precious memory I have.

Instruments of all kinds have their own voice. Their own Spirit.
I have 4 acoustic guitars. Each one has it's own speicial voice and sound. I cringe because I know someday, when I pass on, thse guitars will end up in someone else's hands. I pray that this person will know how to play and enjoy the beautiful sounds that come out of them each time I play.

It became a therapeutic outlet for the abuse we suffered. I play for the ward choir now, and some of the best times I remember now are playing show tunes while my wife sings. My daughter is now 6, and we are slowly working through passing the passion on to her.

I have been learning piano for probably 4 or 5 years now, and the piano we have is over 100 years old. I love playing it and it is still in pretty good shape. Pianos are very special and should be appreciated more.

This is the Mormon message that I love the most. A simple short video but it does meaningful! As I saw our whole life as like the piano, the music as gospel, person who play the piano as investigator and also the piano as member with doing missionary work. From pre-mortal life until the end that we back to heaven! =)

Coming upon this video in 2020 brought tears to my eyes, because this year we have all gone through many hardships, and these hardships may have damaged us more than we should've been able to bare, like losing loved ones, or struggling with the new setting, but we can always grow stronger and better because of it, no matter what we suffer through.

as a musician myself who has played piano off and on in my life, this video really touched me. When my grandparents died, we inherited their piano that was made in the 1880's. It may not always be in tune, but it is one of my favorite pianos to play on to this day, because of how much history it has.

A few months ago I acquired my very own 1861 Woodward and Brown (Steinway) square grand piano. A life goal of mine since I started taking lessons when I was 8 years old (1998). Its out of tune, and the lid has splintered on one of the hinges.......I came across another one similar in age and look, in pristine condition, the thought crossed my mind to get rid of the old one and bring home the new one. My husband showed me this video and I remember the playing this exact piece on my 1895 upright STARR piano. I couldn't bring myself to let it go so I passed on the new piano and will be restoring my out of tune old beauty.
Back story: that woman I bought it from taught music with her husband for 40+ years, and this piano I bought had been in their family for generations, he recently passed away during the COVID-19 2020 year, and she moved to a different state into a smaller home and couldn't take it with her. She wanted to make sure it went to a good home, I will make good on that promise.
All the years of playing and living this piano has done had taken it's toll, it's time to bring it out of the dark and make it sing again. To anyone reading this, don't forget things or people that are old or may move a little differently or slower, love them and help them. This piano has definitely taught me that lesson 🎹

Got sold to someone probably! Maybe to a piano store as used?! So beautifully done!!! Thank you!!! From Grandma to Grandpa!!!

I have my Mom's piano. She died two years ago at 88. The piano is in my living room, looking much like the one in the video. I took lessons from her but never really was able to stick with it, partially, I think because I am SO SO left-handed and a melody didn't come with ease, comfort or success. Early tonight, I sat down at that piano and tried playing. Always on display are her favourite (as I remember...or guess) pieces of music. Edelweiss is one of them. It didn't come easily, but I tried. And tonight, watching this video for the first time, I had a sense of the magic she felt when she played. It was bought second hand for her by her father from a farmhouse in what is now part of Toronto when she was 15. It was, I am sure, a comfortable friend she could turn to to find that magic and freedom she had earned during the many years of practice. I am so grateful that, because of my parents I am familiar with so much inspirational and beautiful music that is also magic to me.

We just purchased a new piano to replace our aging one. I found what I think was the original owners name with a date stamped on the inside: November 4, 1964. It’s a small upright that was actually used in a church for many years prior to coming to our home. I can only imagine the playing time it has seen.
Last year our tuner said it’s nearly on its last tuning as it gets further and further out in between tunes. The sound board and strings are simply done. My wife has taught lessons for nearly 20 years on it, I’ve played it near daily, my kids are all learning on it. Now it’s been temporarily moved to the living room as our new one gets delivered tomorrow. Didn’t ever think a piano would be so nostalgic. My dad bought it for us when we were college. It’s moved from one side of the country and back during travels for school. Oh geez….i might not be able to get rid of it if I keep going but it’s time has come.
My daughter said the whole situation reminded her of this video, which I had never seen, and now here I am. 😭😭

I am not involved with a church in any way at all. I believe that everyone chooses their own path in life respectively and equally. However, I have been a musician all my life. I am a Percussionist. My Dad, who passed away a few years ago was my mentor and hero in music. He played piano and accordion and was there for me, helping me get to lessons and always playing the piano and helping me along with my career. The piano in the living room of the house that I grew up in is still there. The house belongs to me now, and that same piano is a constant, wonderful memory of my Dad. It will remain here as long as I live. Thanks for this video and I hope you read my comment without any religion involved in it. I just think that the message of remembering loved ones in our lives is one of the most important things anyone can do.

I always love this video :)
You know like - like the piano we are designed to make others happy and serve them. But in the midst of life- we experience loss, sadness, fell doscourage, or even can be forgotten. We stop. But God will send people as an instrument to appreciate your worth just like the man in the store taking care the Piano. Until the day will come after the rain- someone will rekindle our light again. And we will change, brighter, and in full potential to serve again.

as soon as i saw that tank i instantly just think about my great grandfather because when i went to my nanny's house for some time (what i call my great grandma) i saw that tank everyday and when i left their cozy home he died eventually. i was never close to him and i only cried a little but right now im sobbing. my nanny described it so sad and it did. she said he looked up at her, half smiling as he took his last breath. i also cried when she started to play the piano more because it was so beautiful and i felt the Holy Spirit, i havent felt something like that in a long time and it just hits me. what a huge feeling in a tiny detail.

Sometimes we are the piano, and we need someone to help us remember the potential that is within us. Sometimes the piano is our wife, and we need to be the ones who will help her feel how blessed we are for having her next to us, help her remember how special and unique she is. In the end, we are all like this piano, and if we seek Christ, He will reform us, and play us to our full potential, and we'll be able to bless many other lives through and because of Him.

Just to share , if I wasn’t a member of the church I will never obtain this kind of gift I have right now though I’m not that really good in playing piano but I still consider this as a gift from our Heavenly Father. 😄🙏🏻
