That Haïti segment, only Bourdain could have done it. No self aggrandizement, only the sheer, brutal truth. Pure honesty and decency. He really was one of a kind.
The thing is, he doesn't even need to do it. Most food or travel shows shy just slightly away from really discussing politics and reality, especially ugly and unpleasant reality - it's usually a turn off and hurts rating or gets unnecessary flak. Bourdain always made the effort to make some commentary and take honest looks at the culture and society. There's something genuine about him that transcends reality TV.
When he passed I remember crying like a family member passed. No matter how many years have passed my heart is heavy with grief. The way he respected the people, the cultures, and the food. He respected the manner in which food is eaten and the history. The respect he had for the line cooks and the very over looked people in restaurants. He made me love food and helped me with my ED recovery. I will always grief and cry when I watch any of his videos.
He didn't say it but someone said it about him, compared to shows of the time that showed Americans how people in the Congo, Syria, and various under represented people of the time were going through and humanizing them? Right now we have democrats hating on republicans and vice versa, we have Israeli hate, Palestinian hate, Russian hate, hate on China, Hate on the rich hate on poor. What show is really humanizing people and not dividing people right now? Bizarre foods for example as much as Zimmern tried to be respectful was built on the exploitation of other cultures so that americans can go "Oh that's gross!! Those people eat that!?"
I always thought Bourdain always showed the good and bad. He never sugar coated it to make it look like it was sunshine and rainbows. He showed the human condition along with the food. He made amazing shows.
Still crushed the world lost this amazing man 😖 He worked so hard to promote and educate us about wonderful food and people from exotic places. You'll always be remembered Mr Bourdain.....❤
I don't think anyone has ever done such a good job of displaying the light and the shadow of life through food and culture. Tak eout the food and Anthony was still a brilliant storyteller. He was always out to show the bittersweet.
@@dersatansschuh4426Why are you getting offended on behalf of their disgusting food? They are extremely poor, it is not their fault that their food is shit, but that doesn’t make it less true. Anthony was respectful about it as he should be
@@ohmeika994 food that looks disgusting can be pretty good, very common when it comes to street food. And personally i’ve seen way more disgusting looking food
Tony was my gateway into becoming more appreciative of food and cooking. I have fond memories of Les Halles and it was heartbreaking to hear of his passing. Rest in peace. We miss you.
Mr Bourdain , you are too insightful and sensitive to close your eyes and enjoy the good things of human life which so many of us take for granted while turning a blind eye to the sorrows of the other part of the world. Rest in Peace my brother.
God I miss this man. When people ask me who inspired me to cook, my answer was and will always be Anthony Bourdain. My father is great, but from Anthony’s wild start to things like this. What a guy. I hope I get to sit next to him at his table in heaven one day. I remember watching that first segment and how heart broken I was, not just for the kiddos, but for Anthony and his crew. Bad accidentally triumphed over good and it’s hard to watch from an outsiders perspective. Kind of made me do the whole, face to the side thing. I don’t know what it’s called. Oh yeah, disappointment. Miss this guy man.
respect Tony for not only never failing to make me hungry / learn new things and places - but also in this video to you and your team for no sugar coating or cutting out the fight over food ...

2024 and still miss Anthony Bourdain.
He was always a bit of a nonce.
Me too
Finally listened to the Kitchen Confidential audio-book (narrated by Mr. Bourdain himself) and it was excellent. Miss him too.
big time
Very much
Not my quote but someone else said "Bourdain had the last show that taught Americans not to be scared of different people"
I mean that's some of the worst hyperbole I've ever read but he did have one of the best and most far-reaching voices saying it.
Pretty damn false
That's one of the dumbest things I've heard in a long time, for multiple reasons.
