We’re going to break down all the Michael Keaton and Ben Affleck Batman goodness, All the alternate timelines and universes The Flash is traveling to. Superman’s cousin, Kara, aka Supergirl-and how this is all leading to the big reset of the DC Cinematic Universe. Let’s get nuts. [clip, Keaton, “you wanna get nuts? Let’s get nuts.”]
So we got an official trailer plus a tv spot with some additional footage that we’re going to be breaking down as well. First I want to talk about the comics this story is likely based on, because that will inform what is happening in this trailer [w hat the hell is going on?]
So in the comics and in the DCEU, Barry’s mom was killed when he was a kid. If you saw the show the Flsh you probably remember this, she was killed by Barry’s nemy Eobard thawn fomr the future. His dad was accused of the cie and put in jail, which is why Barry goes to visit him in prisonin the Justice league.
Then, in a story called Flashpoint, Barry uses his super speed to travel back in time and saves her life. However, this makes all of these unforeseen change to the world-such as thomas wayne becoming batman instead of bruce. Barry did reset the universe, but with a few things now different. In the comics this became the rebooted universe called New 52, which gave us some great stories like the Court of Wowls and Grant Morrisino’s superman run-along with many other gret runs liek Wonder Woman and bbatgirl.
Doug: Stop talking comics, man, we wanna hear about the trailer…
Right, sorry. So we’re likely going to se Barry screw up time in this movie, and then reset the universe. And that reset universe will be the new DCU that James Gunn talked about a couple weeks ago [clip, flash reset].
Doug: But how does Barry travel back in time?
Well, a few different ways, The Snyder Cut had this scene where Barry bascialyl runs into the speed force and travels backward in time.
Doug: Oh yeah, it was the greatest all time film moment ever, according to the oscars.
Yeah. [awkward silence between the two of us]. But also, in the comics Barry can vibrate his molecules to a different frequency, which allows him to travel to different earths. And there is also a cosmic treadmill that allows him to travel between universes. And believe it or not, Zack Snyder set all of this up in batman vs superman: dawn ofJustice?
Doug: Say whaaaaat?
The scene where Bruce falls asleep, and then sees a vision of Barry [clip]. So remember in the snyder’s cuts weird epiolgue? That would have set ip a post apocalyptic sequel where superman turned evil and joned darkseid. So bruce invents this cosmic treadmill to send barry back in time with a warning. I think it’s possib;le that bruce created th same treadmill in this universe, to allow barry to travel through time.
So now, if Barry has now discovered the full potential of his powers, his ability to travel through time. It makes sense that he’d want to travel back in time to save his mother from dying and his father from wrongful imprisonment.
The trailer opens with Barry in a brand new suit equipped with fancy new lenses. Because let's face it, when you’re traveling through time and space faster than the speed of light, dry eye is bound to happen.

I think other Barry is just another Barry but that other Barry will play the role of reverse Flash and go evil.

In the TV series, metahumans are created by the same accident that created the Flash - a particle accelerator explosion. If Barry doesn't lose his mom and has a normal life, they is no explosion and he and the other metahumans don't get their powers.
I think lightning going through both Barry's chests is because they had to recreate the explosion to give them powers

I think the Scooby Doo shirt is a clue that this version of Barry Allen may be unmasked as the real villain like in many classic Scooby episodes.

Something not mentioned in this is that in the Flashpoint comic, Superman did land on earth but was found by the government and experimented on in an underground lab with no sun light, just like what looks to have happened to Kara in this trailer.
I came here to say this as well, it's like the only part of Flashpoint people remember is thomas Wayne batman.

I was a Freshman in High School when Batman came out. I saw it probably five times with my HS buddies. Effects and story telling have changed the genre but Michael Keaton’s version of Batman will always be my sentimental favorite. Anyone who grew up in the 80s will remember how Keaton was one of best character actors that decade from Mr Mom, Johnny Dangerously, Night Shift, Beetlejuice and then Batman. He is amazing.
i was only a little older than you, saw it three times too, but i dont think that movie has aged well at all. it was a product of its times and then, it was amazing. but now, its too campy. way too campy
At 17:44 you can look closely and see that it looks like Barry may have cut the bat ears off of an older suit. So I think that means it's not black paint wearing off a red suit, but rather the red paint wearing off of a black batman suit. I think this is further proven by the teaser showing the red paint and Flash symbol painted over a batman costume
That's exactly how I saw it, so I was surprised Ryan showed the poster and then constructed a theory about Batman suddenly having a Flash suit from some other timeline or multiverse?!? I was wondering if Barry and Other Barry will be painting batsuits to help differentiate them in a forthcoming battle and have friendly "you're The Flash, I'm Reverse Flash" banter as they add the bolts.

He really put a stain on the chaaracter & i loved his interpretation of the character😩😫😡🤬and thats the only thing that took me out of the Trailer as Epic as it was i just hope i can make myself ignore it during the film & it is becomes successful & become's a classic but i dont think he should be allowed to play the character anymore...SADLY😩😫😥

I like your prediction of young flash being Eobard Thawn in disguise. That would definitely be a very professor zoom thing to do. But also worth pointing out that kid flash also wears a similar yellow outfit, and maybe young Barry takes up a sort of “kid flash” role for the older Barry assuming he needs help during this calamity

It's a little detail but the I Am Legend poster may also be a nod to the fact that it was there where the idea of a Superman/Batman movie was first suggested as an easter egg.

My assumption is that Barry’s first attempt to run back in time results in him landing much further back than intended. And when he does finally land in the right year, the damage was already done.
According to the comics, the fact that Barry went back in the first place sent ripples in time not just in the future, but in the past as well, which is why Thomas Wayne becomes Batman instead of Bruce, even though it happened before Barry was born.
Couple things:
I think younger Barry is wearing yellow because that's also the color that younger Flashes usually wear.
The Mystery Machine shirt is probably a nod to Batman and Robin being on Scooby-Doo.
I think the black Flash suit is actually a loaner Batman suit, possibly the one from the poster, hastily spray painted red so the black is showing through.
I think the black costume could also mean one Barry dies and becomes the Black Flash in the movie.
I bet the picture of batman's family is the button he pushes to open the batsuit area. He has to think of them every time he needs to put the suit on.
Gunn also said the new DCU was going to have the whole family as well
My kids were watching the trailer and I heard them screaming, "Dad, it's your Batman." Keaton will always be my Batman.

In the Flashpoint comics, Barry's run back in time to save his mother actually caused "ripples in time and space" that effected things even further back in the timeline, such as Kal-El's ship being knocked off course decades earlier and landing in a different location and Bruce Wayne being killed as a child in Crime Alley causing his father Thomas to become Batman.
If this film is based upon those comics, then that is probably what happens here as well.
So hyped for this movie, seeing all the Michael Keaton's batman suits was awesome.

If you look at the freeze frame of "Barry 2" jumping through the air and kicking, it looks like his mask has ears like Batman. I don't think it's a red suit painted black, I think it's a black Batman suit painted red with the red paint coming off.
You may have a point. Wasnt there a logo a while ago which blended the Flash logo with the Batman one? That could be a clue to this.
Yeah my impression too was he was fighting in a Batman suit painted red and it was peeling off to reveal the Black suit underneath. It may even be this is set up for that flash becoming the Black Flash, the personification of Death at the end, while the young barry becomes the Reverse Flash when he realises he has to kill his mother to save the Earth from the Kryptonian invasion.

11:31 actually, Thawne explained that traveling back in time creates a temporal-shockwave, that afects events before and after the point in time where he traveled to. So Kara and Keaton being Supergirl and Batman could be an effect of Barry's time travel. Although unlikely, because he's meeting himself, so it's most likely another timeline
Indeed in the Flashpoint not only did Barry saving his mothers life lead to Bruce Wayne dying instead of Thomas Wayne but also Aquaman and Wonder Woman never becoming friends with humans and destroying the world in a cataclysmic war between Amazons and Atlanteans (and a lot of DC villains being heroes in the human resistance). General Zod and the Kryptonians have been copy pasted into this film over the Atlantean/Amazon war probably as the studio balked at having Aquaman and Wonder Woman as the films villains.

Zod is not bad and like all politicians they did nothing and the planet got destroyed. Zod was tired of them not doing anything to save the planet so he fought against them. He is a General and is all about saving his people
I hope Keaton’s Batman will reference some of his rouges gallery from the late 80s and 90s like Jim Carey’s Riddler and Jack Nicholson’s Joker and more. Would be fun. But also maybe the ticking that you said sounded like a time bomb can symbolize that once this movie ends, the DCEU will, “ go boom”.
ALSO I loved the light gray suit and blue tinted cape that Affleck’s Batman was wearing. Nice seeing something other than just pitch-black suits that we’ve almost always gotten.

Supergirl being held under government captivity is what happened to Superman in "Flashpoint." I think his pod crashed in Metropolis instead of rural Kansas, so the government swept it up right away. My assumption is that they are adapting that storyline but replacing Superman with Supergirl.
As far as the yellow for the younger Barry, that could also be a reference to Kid Flash's yellow suit.
The black Flash suit appeared in Frank Miller's "The Dark Knight Strikes Again," and that Flash was kept under captivity.
Hearing Keaton saying “I’m Batman” paired with his music. 😮😮😮
One thing I noticed was that Barry's lightning changes from blue to yellow. And the scene where there are two flashes might be after long-haired Barry also got powers.

Nailed it and Supergirl was a badass in the Injustice series too.
In the Flashpoint animated movie many things were changed when Barry saved his mother. Including things that happened before that event. Superman landing in a different location and Bruce getting shot all happened before Barry lost his mother
The animated movie took a lot of liberties with the storyline.

Keaton might be playing Flashpoint Batman. In the close-up, they show green paint on his knuckles. Maybe he punched Flashpoint Joker to death and the Martha Wayne Hospital is a way to honor her/atonement.
Also, it is a shame we don't get Michelle Pfeiffer's Catwoman back

The cowl on the floor must be Batfleck's because the ears are very short in comparison to Keaton's looong cowl ears. This means that the 'Batman dies' theorie is more likely to be Batfleck, also because we KNOW this is his last appearance.
My guess is that the facility where they’re keeping Kara is the same facility where Black Adam was locked up in that movie. There were rows of metahumans in stasis pods. This is likely the Flashpoint universe version of that prison

something I realized, Ryan! in some comics Martha Waynes maiden name was Arkham and that building in the one shot is the Martha Wayne Institute. What if that is like a rebuilt Arkham Asylum or renamed for modern medical research. Essentially what I'm saying is, could that be Arkham Asylum?

My hypothesis is that Michael Keaton is playing Batman but he's not playing Bruce Wayne, he's playing Thomas Wayne.

5: possible nod to Mr. Freeze or some under water suit he needed
6: Knightmare suit
7: the current most updated suit

I think I cracked it.
- in justice leauge Barry rewinds time, this makes him realize he can save his mother.
- he goes to Batman with his idea, he rejects, Barry does it anyway.
- He goes back, and saves his mom. but when he comes back, mom is (alive/or not) but it's all different. Zod attack but there no superheroes.
- Barry goes to batman, but instead of Bruce he find old and broken Thomas Wayne, he can't help, but shows him how to find other Batmans, in other worlds.
- Barry goes to Keathon timeline, finds that his mother is still alive there, also another himself without powers. He needs to go back, and take Batman with him, but he is not strong enough.
- He gives other Barry Flash powers, they go back and keep loking for other superheroes, they find Kara and save her.
- They beat the enemy, in the end, Barry realizes, it's the other Barry who did all of this. He killed Barry's mom, so that he would have to come back and give him powers again. Reverse Flash, he also killed all the other super heroes, or prevented them from becoming heroes. that's why clark is not there, no one knew about Kara.
It's probably something like this.
I am so hyped for this movie! I knew Keaton’s Batman was a bad ass, but even after all these years, he’s still got it and then some!!! The visuals are absolutely stunning!
I think this will all play out in the same universe. My theory is that the Barry from the timeline where his mom lives grows up without powers. Original flash somehow gives other Barry flash powers to help defeat Sod. Michael Keaton is actually the Thomas Wayne version of Batman in this timeline and he almost dies. Other Barry absorbs him and they become Red Death. Red Death goes back in time to save Bruce and Martha from dying, but original Barry stops him. Red Death goes back to kill flash's mom because it's the only way he can save Bruce. This wipes Red Death out of existence, but it fixes everything and Bruce gets that letter from his dad at the end. This would be a crazy movie, but they have all the pieces in place to make it happen.
Hey Ryan, pretty sure Reverse Flash (or Dark Flash) IS going to be the variant of Barry in yellow in this story.
The scene where Barry 2 gets hit with a flash of lightning passing through Barry 1 is going to be Barry 2 "recreating" the original experiment to steal Barry 1s powers or at least gain powers.
Later, in a reimagined Flashpoint moment, Kara will be flying Barry 1 into the sky to get hit by lightning and reignite his powers like Batman helped him do in Flashpoint

Kara probably landed in Russia and she’s been kept there in a secret Soviet facility since and this is a nod to Superman: Red Son

Kara being held out of the sun in a government facility mirrors what they did to superman in flashpoint.
in flashpoint did they KNOW to keep him out of the sun, or just did it and it wound up being a good move? i never read it. did they scoop him up as a baby i assume? then in dark the whole time and therefore not superhuman?
but then if so how does Kara have her powers in this movie?
There are some interesting theories about the facility that Kara is being held in. I'd like to throw out one - it's a CADMUS facility, and we'll find out Amanda Waller is the main bad for this new Phase I of the DCU.

Speaking as someone who grew up with the Keaton/Burton Batman movies…. This trailer really hits hard. Gonna be smiling like a big goof when I sit down to watch this in theaters.
Alternate Barry's outfit also reflects kid flash, inferring that he could look up to our Barry as a role model figure or smthn

I hope Keaton’s Batman will reference some of his rouges galleries from the late 80s and 90s like Jim Carey’s Riddler and Jack Nicholson’s Joker and more. Would be fun. But also maybe the ticking that you said sounded like a time bomb can symbolize that once this movie ends, the DCEU will, “ go boom”. If “I Am Legend” poster hangs on the wall in Barry’s room we can presume he has watched the movie and liked it enough to buy the merchandise. That means he must know that Batman Vs Superman Marquee is displayed within “I am legend” which creates a paradox of it existing before it existed within the own reality of it existence. Or a time traveller (AKW) deliberately put it there as a subconscious reference to a most significant point in Time which is why Flash later/earlier timed travelled to get the message to Bruce in the Batcave to create a reset point possible time loop point to avoid the darkest timeline.

The suit that younger Barry is wearing is probably a modified Batsuit painted red and its the red paint coming off black, not black paint coming off red. The helmet with the little stumps are clearly cut-down bat ears from a Keaton cowl. I think this is just the makeshift flash suit they put together for younger Barry when they met Keaton's Batman, not another version of the flash character entirely.
