In a cold and dreary world when someone appears on the screen that reminds people of love joy and compassion when they leave the theatre they will never see the world the same again.
It's January 2024 and I'm getting emotional watching this video. Thinking about how young Rudy was when he died. How heartbroken his family, friends, and fans felt. Then realizing that everyone in this video is now dead.
I knew several old flappers when I was a little girl that still had his picture on the back of their bedroom doors. For real! They never got over him being dead!
@@Terry-te1ij in the wiki page it is explained that his mom Marie Bethe Barbin was originally from Northern Italy but her family galicized the surname (from Barbini to Barbin)
I thought they would show Pola Negri’s hysterics at the funeral. I was amused by the hearse and the method of getting the coffin in and out of it. I didn’t realise how many people were in the streets watching. Amazing. Don’t know which actor today would get a crowd like that.
But the body they had on display was a big wax head on a mannequin. Look at the face closely. The body was in the basement. They were afraid the mons of people would break through the barricade of police and grab his body.
i wonder if my Grandfather John ever sent flowers to his funeral. they worked together in New York waiting tables as a before Rudy become a Hollywood star. RIP John my dear grandfather 1991 and my grandmother Mary 2014.

So very sad Rudolph Valentino was so very young 😢 💔 I know he had so much more to do in his young life. Years later so much has changed and we how antibiotics the way medicine and all is that to me would have helped him so much to where I believe he had so much more of a chance to survive. He was such a wonderful young man he has so much respect for people and yes to me he was so misunderstood...such a great loss then and now. God rest Rudolph Valentinos soul. Much love hugs and prayers. ❤️❤️🙏🙏
Doesn’t it ever get to the cemetery like every one else? What is interesting is that the crowds are so respectful unlike today you would have a mass mob of chaos.
There was a mass mob and complete destruction of Frank E. Campbell’s funeral home, they broke the front windows, tore the place apart trying to get souvenirs, there were fights in the streets and everything.
Margaret Mitchell, who wrote Gone with the Wind, was a reporter before writing her famous book. She determined to interview Valentino when he was traveling the US on the Mineralava Tour in 1923. This when he was on an actor's strike. She actually climbed his fire escape at his hotel. Anyway, he was a perfect gentleman and helped her into the room. She said that he had many wonderful qualities indeed, but his voice was his "chief charm". She wrote that it was deep and he had a slight "continental accent".

Apparently there are still groups of women who have placed a red rose at his crypt every few days since his death in 1926. And on the anniversary of his death a group of women wearing black veils gather at his crypt. Kinda creepy really.

One of the mourners, (not a pallbearer), seen coming out of both Campbell's Funeral Parlor, and also the church, certainly looks like Douglas Fairbanks, he looks well-tanned, and has a moustache. (although, I am not sure of this). Also, printed commentary says that Valentino's remains were being taken back to Campbells, why would they go back there, and not, perhaps, to the railroad station for the trip to California ?
I've heard once that he was actually shot in the stomach by a jealous husband, whose wife was a big fond of the actor. When Valentino was brought to a hospital, he asked for no scandal at all, and the medics came up with the appendicitis. The Press took it for granted.
The men at the beginning are mostly reporters. The women were in place along the streets and in windows. Many fainted and had to be carried inside buildings. It was a very hot August.
The lady that lived across the street from my family killed herself on the anniversary of his death. This guy was a “wonder” for that age group.
