I have the a chocolate cap-toe roughout from Cordobes and there is a reason Carl keeps coming back to how easy they are to wear: they are the most comfortable boot out of the box that I have ever worn. They fit like a glove and comfortable. That alone is worth the price of admission.
I havent worn laceless boots since i quit wearing my tanker boots in the military!😂 absolutely look well made and cheap enough to get into to see if i am happy
Great job for dispelling the myth about Engineer boots being for firestarters. I only learnt that this wasn't the case a few months ago and that they were actually for people in engineering. Also, I love the fact that you're a fellow hoffman boot fan. They really are the best kept secret of PNW boot makers. I love my 16 composite toe all leather powerline. If you could do a video on hoffman's I think that'd be a great idea. Much love.
Great review Sir! I've been looking at picking up a pair of Cordobes to augment my Wescos, you've definitely helped me make up my mind to add these to a birthday wish list. Keep up the great work!
I still LOL at the dude who thought veg tanned leather = vegan leather. I also think a lot of those comments don't understand the patina you'll get with natural leather. I've had a few natural leather items and watching them age over time is pretty sweet.
Great video, as always. I’m not a laceless boot guy, I can appreciate a quality product but I look at them & just see post WWII biker look, that’s not my style. Always a good time watching a Carl video
Those boots look decent, Carl. But that flat outsole (lack of an arch) and the color reminds me of UGGS. As to the bulkiness of the buckle that you mentioned, nothing a few minutes, and a steady hand, on a bench grinder couldn't take care of. Thanks for this video, Carl!!
Freebird makes similarly priced engineer boot they call Easton. I was skeptical but ultimately very happy with them. No customization available but there isn’t much I would change on them.
If you could do a video about round house or prison blues that would be amazing i can't find any good videos about these brand so if you can look into making a video about either of them i would appreciate it a lot thanks
Those are nice boots, I made a backpack in natural veg tan and it looks so different now. It’s one of my favorite leathers but it’s rare to see them in a boot. I’m surprised they weren’t super stiff at first
WW1 European hobb nailed army boots where finished in natural. A practice that continued into WW2 with the German high shaft jack boots. The best modern reproductions also use the correct wooden peg leather sole attachment method. When issued the owner would dye them black or brown as required. If they were roughout greasing would darken them significantly. Eventually they would be near black regardless.
Thanks for the review. They look like a great buy. I was hoping you'd compare them against, or at least mention your Nicks collaboration as you had mentioned those were one of your keepers in a previous video. Nonetheless this looks to be a target for those wanting to step up from Milwaukee or Chippewa.
Quite a bit of what I said about the Mister Lou can be applied to the Nicks collab. They're very similar, although the Nicks has more room in the toe box.
I want to go on record saying grass stains are not a good look for any boot or shoe. Do not mow your lawn wearing any of your good footwear. LOL. Love the veg tan choice Carl!
Hola ! Saludos
I think they look great, and they’ll only get better. I’m sure I read somewhere that engineer boots came from European 19th century officers horse riding boots.
I know that Schott makes good jackets, but when looking at their website you can see a listing for a pair of engineer boots. I wonder if those are any good?
I also looked at the ones from Schott. Like franky3fingers337 pointed out, they're made by Chippewa who make decent boots. They don't have the same quality as they did 25 years ago but they're an ok boot...if someone wants to use them as a motorcycle boot they should be just fine, but they probably won't hold up as a work boot.
id read chippewa closed all their usa factories. perhaps they use their designs? my guess is they are made by cove shoe company, i thought they were contractors used by Frye, Mark Albert, Carolina, Double H. Martinsburg, PA. the price is very good and the waxed leathers may be from seidel.
I have had a pair for about a month. My biggest gripe was the super low heel - got a cobbler to fix that real quick. The leather seems to have some sort of coating on it
Honestly doesn’t look like a bad option if you’re on the fence about spending PNW-prices considering red wing engineers are pretty much impossible to find in the states. Curious about the insole on those Cordobes though, are they veg tan also?
A lot of boots are made in Mexico they’re just slapped with a “made in america” tag because well technically it is, just North America. That being said when you find hand crafted boots in Mexico they’re usually really good quality
I work 12 hour shifts in a machine shop on concrete. I am required to wear safety to boots. I'm looking for comfort but also a boot that will last and not burn my feet up. Any recommendation?
Hay Carl you mentioned you you ordered in your normal size. So my question is I wear wides in athletic shoes but not wide in my boots ( red wing, Thursday, Jim Green’s) . What would you recommend?
I think Canada West may have Cordobes beat on price… they make more of an actual work engineer though, favoured by bikers. Not as much leather in the sole but still great quality, resolability and heavy duty leather used.
I like the way they look from an objective standpoint , but they're just not for me I have skinny calves and ankles, so pull on boots just don't work for me. My preference is an 8" lace up tied quite snug. I definitely envy people who can wear a nice pair of cool engineer boots, but thankfully there are so many very cool lace up boots out there to keep me from feeling too bad.
@@HorseBawlz lol I know bro. It’s funny, I originally hated woodsman heels. Then I loved them. And now I’m kinda indifferent. I guess it’s the natural progression of things.
The edges on the heel look like that because they probably used cheaper veg tanned leather and some use the soft belly leather in their heel stacks to make it more comfortable . You can solve that problem by sanding it smooth and then "soak" it with a acrylic sealant like Angelus . Put on a few coats and it will stay nice even after the rain .
Cordobes is cheap junk. My heel layers and midsole came apart after three wears. Bad gluing. Leather was flimsy. Hardwear bendable cheap metal. Not solid at all.

I actually like those cordobes boots! I like how alittle bit of weathering and usage goes with the boot! Another awesome video!
Right on! Thank you for watching and taking the time to comment bro!

I have several pairs of Engneer boots and one of my favorites is from Nicks boots in chrome xl

I like how engineers look, and have a pair but I don't really wear them anymore because they don't have enough ankle support for my liking.

My fav boot channel
Bother, your tip about a hot microfiber cloth on the instep. Game changer, thank you.
My pleasure!
Put some sno seal on that heel to help waterproof them and maybe help stop that delamination issue.
Buy and review some Chisos boots Carl !! The #2 Roughouts !!
I'm a sucker for engineer boots
Solid boot, solid info… great video 👍
I appreciate that!

Vegtan boots are really awsome
Love the look of engineer's and harness boots. Too bad that my ankes are destroyed and need lace ups.
What you think about White's nomad boots. i don't know if i would like engineer

Yes
Off topic Carl but you should do a video on Vest

Could putting Sno-Seal (or something similar) on the heel stack help with that delamination?
I'll bet it would help quite a bit!
Used to wear Herman Engineer boots and they were never that expensive in the day... Why now so expensive ?
Yes, Hermans, Chippewa, Georgia and Carolina all made engineer boots that would last for years and didn’t cost so much. What’s going on?

Yes, it might go away.
Did you condition these right out of the box?
No sir.
Not a fan of the leather or sole. I prefer a finished natural over a true natural leather. Looks like a great boot for the money
The leather certainly isn't for everybody, but luckily you can spec out what you like.
