I've always been amazed about how they made this, I'm a videographer myself, and when I watch videos, I wonder how they created it. But I never have thought it was that simple! It's a projector! Of course! Michel Gondry is a genius!
I think its a projection on top of another projection, or on top of a screen and then both layers are recorded as a means to "flatten" the layers, the reason why I think it's more than one projection is that it doesn't deform at the corners or angles in the room, so it has to be projected onto a 2d flat surface... I'm an amateur cinematographer myself, Awesome video indeed.
@@ZholGoliath Maybe this is old news by now, but it's actually even simpler than that: The footage is captured from a spot in the room, and then it's projected from the exact same spot, trying to match the lens width as closely as possible (a good way to go about that would be to try to line up the projected room with the real room). Then the perspectives of the room sort of cancel each other out (the beam of the projector is seeing the same room geometry that the camera was seeing when it shot the footage). That's why the room doesn't deform but the characters do. So every "destruction" scene has been shot from the same place from where it gets projected later for Jack's scenes walking around (to get an idea of where that spot is, watch Jack's shadow on the wall; the projector is the primary light source, if not the only one, so the shadow will tell you where it is). Man, “The White Stripes” are one of the best simple punky indie garage blues rock band of the 21st century. Ik their songwriting isn’t always original and is very raw and kinda derivative of the blues, but yeah that’s what the blues is at it’s core.
I think that this is the best of Gondry's White Stripes videos. The others were more technically proficient, but this one is far more emotional, and it matches the song particularly well. It conveys a lot of meaning, about the metaphorical and literal definitions of "home wrecker." Meaning is art, more so than technological tricks.
I saw The White Stripes three times and the first time I just stood there in complete shock as to how bizarrely brilliant they were. Second and third times were pretty much the same. This live was nothing short of astonishing.

Wish he and Meg were still together. They made awesome music together.
Zoofolk Debbie her anxiety prevented her from touring :(
Alternate Universe Em touring seems super intense, I don't blame her one bit for ducking out of that lifestyle 😥
@@nolimit6377 Jack wrote all of the songs the white stripes made anyway
He don't need her .
Wait what... Can you tell me his other yt name?
Michael Gondry never fails to amaze me.
How could have this song escaped my minds music library. Glad it has returned for sure.
Big day out 2006 Auckland New Zealand one hell of a headling act being 18 at the time I’ll never forget seeing them live.
“Every breathe that is in your lungs is a tiny little gift to me.” Favorite line ever
Dead leaves and the dirty ground
When I know you're not around
Shiny tops and soda pops
When I hear your lips make a sound
When I hear your lips make a sound
Thirty notes in the mailbox
Will tell that I'm coming home
And I think I'm gonna stick around
For a while so you're not alone
For a while so you're not alone
If you can hear a piano fall
You can hear me coming down the hall
If I could just hear your pretty voice
I don't think I need to see ya at all
I don't think I need to see ya at all
Soft hair and a velvet tongue
I want to give you what you give to me
And every breath that is in your lungs
Is a tiny little gift to me
Is a tiny little gift to me
I didn't feel so bad till the sun went down
Then I come home
No one to wrap my arms around
Wrap my arms around
Well any man with a microphone
Can tell you what he loves the most
And you know why you love at all
If you're thinking of the holy ghost
If you're thinking of the holy ghost
This music video is pure and utter genius
great guitar
dope song...badass video...ghosts of our past, ghosts of ourselves.
Honestly one of the coolest music videos I've ever seen. I love the brilliance with using a projector in such creative ways!
Whos still listens to this in 2019!! This never gets old.. legendary

One of the only bands worth listening to in the 00's.
Love everything about this recording
One of the best songs ever made!!
Like that?
I'm 43, bought a guitar(for the first time).
coz wanted play this song 2019.
so can you play it?
mulatti mulatti hey man you’re never too old to learn or to write music!!
Keep it up! You don’t need to write a top 10 song to enjoy making music!
Just make something you enjoy!
Now that the whole world is on lockdown, now is the time to pick the guitar up. Use ultimate-guitar.com as a reference to play any song. Cheers and rock on.
Fucking do it man, you are NEVER too old to learn or create. I would say that this is a damn fine place to start!!!
Don't give up!!! You'll do it!!!
Love this song
Man, “The White Stripes” are one of the best simple punky indie garage blues rock band of the 21st century. Ik their songwriting isn’t always original and is very raw and kinda derivative of the blues, but yeah that’s what the blues is at it’s core.
Probably the best white stripes song
My favorite band...come on Meg...just 1 reunion show
I think that this is the best of Gondry's White Stripes videos. The others were more technically proficient, but this one is far more emotional, and it matches the song particularly well. It conveys a lot of meaning, about the metaphorical and literal definitions of "home wrecker." Meaning is art, more so than technological tricks.
God, that guitar work is gorgeous
I saw The White Stripes three times and the first time I just stood there in complete shock as to how bizarrely brilliant they were. Second and third times were pretty much the same. This live was nothing short of astonishing.
Wasn't a fan back then... Rediscovering now. Thank you Jesus!!
Love playing this riff
YES! A lesser known song for sure but super easy and fun to play and one of my favorites
One of my biggest regrets years ago was trading my white stripes cds for a typewriter, revisiting these songs is so amazing.
😂
Awesome projector work, I've not seen this done before. Very nice!
Jack White is the absolute personification of Detroit/Michigan music! Detroit Rock City Forever!
2023 and I still come back to this...
