Lots of good information here! Great description and overview of the 6.7. Local Ford dealer usually samples fuel to determine if the fuel was the cause of the injection system failure. The egr system is there to reduce NOX emissions . The Def systems greatly reduced the need for egr, tier 4 interim systems used a much higher percentage of egr to accomplish the job of meeting emissions lThose engines were extremely hard on the motor oil,by comparison the DEF equipped trucks are actually a lot easier on the motor oil and the size of the egr coolers can be reduced some. This is just my opinion but the Cummins Rams are alot less finicky about oil,any fleet 15w40 will do,it’s an industrial duty diesel, the Duramax is a little harder on the oil and the 6.7 powerstroke is the hardest on oil, the valvetrain in a duramax isn’t as hard on the oil. Because of that, we recommend 5w40 full synthetic in all 6.7s.
At work we have International max force 9s and 10s right before they went to DEF, these trucks are emissions nightmares we are always putting egr coolers in them it’s every 2-3 years …..these new systems are more reliable egr cooler wise but adding def adds another system to maintain and repair….. I heard you touch on deleting, the EPA is stepping up enforcement,at the repair shop level at least in Ny.

I'm a sales person for Ford. We are not trained to know every internals of the product. We are trained to know its tech features both in and outside, the drivetrain features, trim levels, different packages both outside the product such as towing packages and interior packages etc. We are NOT trained on understanding the details of the engine and transmission components. That is for service department and Parts department. However on my own time I love watching stuff like this and engineering videos so I'm up to date on internals, common issues with years makes and models regarding engine and transmission, I do tons of research so my customers make an informed decision.
In addition to contamination from bad fuel, if you use the wrong fuel, that will get you as well. If you look in the manual, a specific grade/rate of fuel is mentioned (it has to do with purity plus lubricant added) and most places do not carry it so you will need to add a lubricant to your fuel every time you pull up to the pump. HotShot was a top brand as well as Motorcraft was a runner-up.

Personally for me I have a 2000 f250 7.3 factory diesel and I have had 0 problems with it at all since getting it. I've kept up with oil checks and making sure during the winter to keep the truck plugged up and I haven't had a problem. It's still my daily driver to this day and is still working as new.

Im looking at a new 2023 f350 dually. That way i will have warranty with it. Getting into hauler. None cdl for now but plan on getting it and starting out as a 2car with a gooseneck flatbed.

As much as I love diesel trucks, that possible $10K repair bill if you aren't up on your maintenance regimen makes me glad my truck runs on gas.
I’m at 60k miles in my 2020 6.7L and it’s been the best truck I’ve ever owned. I daily drive it to work, around 50 miles a day. It’s extremely comfortable to ride in. We prefer it for long road trips because it’s so comfortable.
Yes the upkeep is a little more involved, and expensive. But again I have so far had zero issues. Just make sure you keep up on the maintenance and it’ll take care of you. Also, I pull with mine from time to time but not very often. Just bought it mostly for fun.

@@strokedblazer857 I have been in a Cummins equiped Ram for the last 12 years. No issues with the engine at all. The pre-emissions diesels are more reliable. I still have a 97 Cummins M11-450 and maintenance in minimal.
Don't be afraid. I had a brand new F150 3.0 Diesel as a daily driver for 5 years and never had an issue other than regular oil changes. Just got delivery of my 6.7 diesel F450.
If you can wrench on a gas car you can wrench on a diesel bro, I had a gas truck they're cool, but my god's is the towing gas milage horrendous, I'm getting a 7.3 powerstroke now, cause my old trucks gas tank is too small. If your wondering it's 2000 f350 with the V10 triton.
"CP4 pumps" I think are a common problem among "the big 4" (well... maybe... 3?)

Can i get away with daily driving a diesel?
I do lots of short trips but I also like to go on small road trips once per week and even longer ones here and there.
I would have OCR turned on to keep an eye on the filters percentage gauge and then take it out for an hour or two when necessary or even once per week to burn off the soot in the dpf filter.
My other concern is cold starts in winter and I would assume I'd best drain my water filter if not daily once per week under freezing temperatures? I would also more than like have to isntall high idle on command like yourself. Either way I would be big on maintenence.
I also saw in another video where you can turn off passive regen on command. Which is what I was planning to do for the short trips to work on a daily and then turn it back on before I go for my long drive when the filter is starting to get full. This way I don't turn off the truck during a regeneration.
All input on this is appreciated !

With OCR turned on, you'll be fine
During the winter you won't have to worry about the water freezing specifically you'll need to worry more about the diesel getting like thicker for me I just get a extention cord and plug my truck in to keep it warm during the winter to make sure the water and diesel don't freeze up or get like thicker

Diesel isn’t hydroscopic, meaning it does NOT absorb moisture from the air, fuel, or its surroundings. It comes from other items that get included in the pumping of diesel…. Condensation from the storage tank, poor handling during transfer, etc. water is heavier than fuel in its density and will separate from the fuel over time…. Aka after sitting for several months. Since this “fuel” (aka pure water) is sitting on the bottom of the tank, it is the first thing sucked thru the system, causing the damage you are referring to. As you said, proper maintenance, draining, and frequent changing of the filters will help eliminate this possibility.

Fleet owner here, diesel is a total nightmare unless it’s a old farm tractor. Do NOT buy diesel unless you have no choice! It’s a huge waste and potential nightmare anytime. Gorgeous truck tho

Even if you have powertrain warranty? I’m not even sure how that would fly at a dealership, simply putting diesel in the truck should be covered. I could imagine if you put gas in it haha

Good information but you keep saying to have to do an insurance claim. Insurance will not cover any of that. Unless it can be directly linked to an accident. Correct me if I’m wrong.

Had a diesel. Never again. After putting a pencil to it, the costs of ownership is noticibly higher than gas. If you are pulling heavy loads a lot then they are worth it…. But for the average camper puller…. Not even worth it
Yeah it absolutely is worth it in Colorado. Nothing worse than a gas truck attempting I70 to Eisenhower tunnel with anything pulling behind it.
