I pull a vacuum on the fill tube and never get oil going all over the place. Just use a remote to start and stop the vacuum. 1. Turn the vacuum on, take out the drain plug. 2. Turn off vacuum with catch container in place. I use a 5 gallon bucket with a plastic trash bag inside ( makes clean up a snap ). 3. Replace drain plug. Turn vacuum on. 4.Poke a hole in the bottom of the filter with a catch can in place. Turn vacuum off. 5. Grease the chassis. 6. Remove oil filter. Clean the mating surface. 6. Use engraver to mark the filter with mileage, date and oil type. Lube o-ring and partially fill filter and install. 7. Refill oil and check. Start engine, reset oil life. Stop engine and recheck oil level.
I added a Fumoto F106 6.7L oil drain to make it more controllable to drain the oil while I’m on my back. Comes with a 3/8” clear hose that connects to the valve and runs into your oil pan. Better than staining my garage floor and arm with dirty oil.

on my F250 what i use is a 5 gallon bucket that i buy from walmart. its $2.99 and its MADE IN THE USA. It stands up about 19 inches and i use it to collect the oil. I drive my truck a few miles to get it up to operating temp and I use my dash engine oil display to tell me when its hot enough. I think you get more contaminants and more old oil out when you do this versus cold oil like what you do. I do also make sure I let the truck sit for a good while to cool down so it doesnt make my plastic bucket super soft, but even still its hot enough or warm enough where it will flow out like water and bring the contaminants with it. I really like the height of the 5 gallon bucket. Makes for easy and clean jobs. I have a dedicated bucket for engine oil with a lid and keep it in a garbage bag, inside a cardboard box, and place it back on the shelf the next time. I take it to my county dump or a local business who has an oil heater in their shop, and they accept it for free. It never leaves the 5 gal bucket and never have to pour it in something else. I like my bucket and thats what I wanted to share lol

What are your thoughts on the Amsoil bypass filter setup bmk 28 on a 21 6.7 Powerstroke? What are the factory oil pressures at idle and 1500rpm. My concern is the 1/2" ID hose with the kit is too small and will reduce flow considerably. Amsoil says the system is designed for 10gpm flow. That seems crazy low. The 6.7 Cummins flows 16-20gpm a 30-45psi. Will the BMK 28 reduce oil volume and or pressure to and from the main filter?
Thank you, for the video. That is a lot of brake clean. Haha. I really like what you post. You should make some videos about doing mods to the trucks? As a 6.7 owner, it is nice to know issues your run into and how you go about repairs. My truck is getting up there in mileage 165k. Thank, thank , thank you
Think it might need a lower pan soon with that bolt missing, i usually punch a hole in the bottom of the filter, and break it loose ever so gingerly and it never gets on me.
Love the videos. I use a 5 gallon bucket for the oil pan, and an oil drain pan for the filter. Never spill a drop. Punch the old filter to drain for a few before I drop it since I’m diy and in no time crunch. Also, I wipe down the filter housing after I let it drain to get the oil off of it. Also ensures the old gasket didn’t get stuck there to cause a leak when I replace the filter. I saw a video from adept ape saying prefilling the oil filter isn’t necessary, so I don’t do it. Never had a problem. Thoughts on that?
Just got my first diesel it's a 2015 f350 thank you for the video I don't know if I caught what kind of oil you use, was wondering what you recommend. Thank you happy Easter and have an awesome day!!!
@PowerStrokeTechTalkwARod nope I'll go with what you recommend you're honesty and integrity are awesome just heard different folks saying use Rotella only. Thank you for your time and wisdom much appreciated!
So New Super Duty Diesel 6.7 Owner, getting a 2022 never owned a diesel before, but drive bus for work, but still newbie SO my question is, what is the best brand of Oil and and filters to use, also fuel filters, I have heard Shell Rotella is the best, I want to maintain and look after this vehicle as hopefully this will be my last vehicle,, any information is greatly appreciated,,,thank you and love your vids, very detailed, and easy to follow, just wish I had a hoist lolol,,,,thank you again,,
Rotella is good stuff. Ford will tell you Motorcraft only. I run castrol usually. The correct oil is more important than the brand. Although walmart and amazon oil apparently meets the specs.. I wouldn't use them. Dont put small engine oil in your diesel.
Does ford recommend to change the plastic 1/2 turn drain plugs in the early 6.7’s and current 2.7L and some 5.0L every time? We do at my shop every time because we have seen them leaking when they come back. Makes a mess on the fiber/cloth skid plate. Only use the ford plugs from our local dealer of course. Great video I have about 1,700 miles on my 2020 F350 tremor, first oil change will be soon.
Hell yea, I'm not totally sure. All the ones I've done done have never leaked. I never replace em either. I mean i make to sure to ean the plug well......just my 2cents

Crack filter loose (without leaking). Then punch a hole in bottom. Then remove filter. On a filter much larger than this.. It helps. The sudden weight of a filter can surprise you.
@@PowerStrokeTechTalkwARod Yeah man. They got the clearance damn tight. It's always a chore to get the threads started holding a heavy ass primed filter. I always prime those old 7.3 filters to the top. The old 24v 5.9s as well.
ARod, like your video’s. Notice you didn’t tighten the filter per your comment, but what appeared to be snug tightness. Was it tightened more off camera?
I start to check the oil around 12 quarts , usually it's full by then, I'm guessing I'm not getting all the old oil out. The specs say 13 but if I do that you got oil above the fill mark on the dipstick. Even after running the truck and priming the filter.
I have a 2018 F-250 6.7 and I've consistently had a double gasket problem removing the oil filter, using motorcraft and now wix filters. Removing them the O-ring sticks on the housing every time. The first time after changing I smelled and could see fuming oil and pulled over to see oil everywhere around the filter. Now I just know to double check it every time. Ive been using Shluters 10-30 synthetic with 6,000 mile changes. Let me know your thoughts.
First video I watched of yours. So, I worked as a tech at a couple Ford dealerships and at the first one, I worked on the first and second generation 7.3 Powerstrokes but have a question about these newer ones. Do these newer 6.7 Powerstrokes also hold roughly 2 quarts of additional oil in the HPOP and as such, is there a way to remove this oil with a suction gun? I will admit, I don't recall personally removing the 2 quarts from the HPOP in the old 7.3 when we did oil changes at the dealers (I don't think anyway) but there are plenty of discussions online for doing so. Obviously, if you're changing oil but not actually changing the 2 quarts in the HPOP as well, then you're not actually changing all of it and as such, the new oil will be contaminated with the old oil immediately upon startup. So, do you not change this on the newer ones and if so, why not? Or, is there just no way to change this? Or, do you change it on the older ones as well or just not worry about it? I know it takes an additional 5 to 10 minutes of time but just curious.
@@PowerStrokeTechTalkwARod summbitch that's a fast response. I thought these still hit 30,000 psi roughly or more like the old ones. No? Hmmm. I wasn't aware. Either way, if there is still oil in the HPOP, wouldn't you want to remove it? I know we can go round and round on this argument but if there is indeed an additional quart or two still in the HPOP when draining the crankcase, that's "old oil" that will get mixed with the new oil. I know it's not much but still, it's there. Now, get to work. ;-)
🤣🤣🤦♂️🤦♂️🤦♂️ THESE DONT HAVE HIGH PRESSURE OIL PUMPS.....ITS HP FUEL BRO! Old ones never hit 30,000. 3800 psi maybe....all these new 1s are 30k psi. U drain the oil thats it, done...no gun sucker needed

Man wish you was my diesel tech. my dealership left my windshield wiper fill open and left my oil cap on my battery drove home and smelt oil through the ac vents somehow it didnt fall. Have 52k on my 2018 6.7 and tow everyday going strong with no issues.
Damn man that sucks. Good to hear she runnin strong. Wish i was ur tech tooo! 🤝👍
Good video. I have a 2000 7.3 with 145,000 miles. I wish my filter was that easy to get to. Keepm coming.
Lolololol
I like cutting the wheels left and squeeze my arm in behind the wheel. That way I don't have to try and barely squeeze in the creeper, especially in those hot trucks where you burn yourself on the trans pan/exhaust!
Nice!!!
What is the material inside the hand pump for cleaning? Excuse me, my English is not good, but I hope you understood my question🙏🏻
Brake cleaner
@@PowerStrokeTechTalkwARod thank you so much👏🏻
Saw that pan missing a bolt and I thought well at least I'm not the only one 😂 he's lucky tho mine is leaking out of that spot
I know right
Great attention to detail. I still can't believe you had no oil on you after spinning the filter off.
Geeeeeeeee, 😉
Now that's a certified mechanic that gives a shit about his work!
Yeppppp
2018 6.7 with what I this is rear main seal or upper oil pan leak from them changing to the silicon.. any why I can tell for sure. love your channel man so much help keep it up.
Watch my upper oil pan & rear crank seal videos...
I use my 2016 F350 for towing my travel trailer and boat and only put on about 3000 miles a year. How often should I be changing the oil and filters? Thanks
Once a yr
Hello - I did exactly as you did - Drained when it was warm added the 13 quarts and my dipstick reads high no matter if the engine is cold, warm or hot - Should I re-do and drain the oil pan after the truck has sat overnight? would that remove more oil - For some reason I have to much oil after adding the 13 - Thanks
Just watching some vids….. I would love to get some Motorcraft oil change stickers. 👍🏼
I got chuuuuuuu
Have you done any Radius arm bushings when you get one show us how, Hey everyone started with that Tri axle Mobile you do great videos Bro Keep them coming when i have time i get to watch the videos.
No i haven't my man, ill let ya know
What are your thoughts on the Amsoil bypass filter setup bmk 28 on a 21 6.7 Powerstroke? What are the factory oil pressures at idle and 1500rpm. My concern is the 1/2" ID hose with the kit is too small and will reduce flow considerably. Amsoil says the system is designed for 10gpm flow. That seems crazy low. The 6.7 Cummins flows 16-20gpm a 30-45psi. Will the BMK 28 reduce oil volume and or pressure to and from the main filter?
I had 1 they sent me but decided not to install it.
Video's are great , never put any time lapse with horrible computer generated noise/music and its all good man.
In depth. Great video
Thank u so much
Love the videos. Thoughts on that?
......would you replace both your fuel filters, then start the truck and drive away without priming the system......🤔🤔
Good food for thought.....
Just sayin...
Just got my first diesel it's a 2015 f350 thank you for the video I don't know if I caught what kind of oil you use, was wondering what you recommend. Thank you happy Easter and have an awesome day!!!
Hey pal, welcome. Same to you. I am a full sym 10w30 kinda guy
@PowerStrokeTechTalkwARod awesome thank you brother, so don't need Rotella or anything special?
@aheis1313 I mean u can use that...
Love it. Now all you need to do is show an instructional video for owner how to clean console. 😂
You're awesome!!
Many people and mechanics dont know the door sticker exists.
Use the correct tires and pressure per the oem and tires will last a long time.
Enjoy all the detail you go into on your videos eg wrench sizes needed what is needed to do the job. Saves from making trips up and down. 6:58
We change them every time as well, get them from our local dealer. I know Dorman makes one but I don’t trust it.
Daddi comin bak🙌🙌🙌
@@PowerStrokeTechTalkwARod blast from the past…Pluto baby
How do you get the DIC to show the exhaust filter percent? Have a 15 with the upgraded dash and that's not an option.
Gotta hse a scan tool
Great video, only thing I would add is checking brake fluid and topping off as needed.
Checking, why would you be topping...brake fluid should NEVER be topped off unless the system is open.
@@PowerStrokeTechTalkwARodold school father thought me that as the brake pads start to wear, the fluid level will go down. And to always keep it near the full line.
......so now you do brakes & push the pistons back in & ALL the brake fluid is NOW gonna push out all over the place. Its suppose to go low. If you had a leak you wld have NO brakes
Total qts would be 13.5?
Hot 5w-40 rotella t6 flows like water. There’s no going faster than what it can drop out of the engine.
I reset the 2nd trip metre to keep track of oil miles/hours
Great idea!
@powerstroke tech talk what do you spray battery terminals with?
Black spray paint
Well done!
I appreciate the video.
@powerstroke tech talk what do you spray your battery terminals with?
Black spray paint
Good Job!
On another topic, P132B, what can you tell me about this?
Thats its probably gonna b turbo time....
What is the brand and model of oil filter wrench it that ?
Mac
Great video, can you do another when the truck is warm? Also do you recommend having the oil cap off to speed up oil drain? Thanks.
Cap doesnt matter
@powerstroke tech talk is it better to drain oil when warm or cold?
WHOA! Rare bird...RWD only Superduty! All we see in my shop is 4x4s! No front diff is strange to see!
😉😁😅 yepp lotta 4 fitties like that
@@PowerStrokeTechTalkwARod Here it's all 4x4 be they 2/3/4Fiddies...never seen a RWD one at all, until this video to be honest...as I said...never seen one without a front diff.
Tooo funny
Another great video! Always look forward to Friday evenings. :-) It would be cool to hear your thoughts on tuning sometime on these 6.7s.
Email me!
How many quarts 14 total one on the filter and the other 13 on the motor?
13 straight up
I’ve been a subscriber for a little while now. I really enjoy your videos. Keep them coming 👍. ? Is there any real difference in changing out a 2002 F250 super duty block heater than say a 05 F550 turbo diesel?
Is same concept just different location
Do'in that maintenance to make her last a looooong life! Nice job bruh! :D
Thanks broski 😉😉
I admire you mechanicing when you are allergic to oil.
Our fleet uses 15w-40 here in the NW should we be using something else
10w30 or 5w40 bub
Why doesn’t the oil filter drip as much when cold? I always punch a hole in the bottom of the filter so it doesn’t spill all over the place!
Cuz it's thicker
On 6.7l diesel why would you have to prime the oil filter? I never have on any of my powerstrokes going back to the 7.3 and 6.0l. Thanks in advance
Coffee can filters ALWAYZ get pre filled...fuel/oil etc..
Open the full cap , it helps vent the drainage
I dont think so tim....
Crack filter loose (without leaking). Then punch a hole in bottom. Then remove filter. On a filter much larger than this.. It helps. The sudden weight of a filter can surprise you.
🤷♂️
Hand strength and a rag 😂 7.3 filters are always fun when they come off. Holds 2 quarts.
That 7.3 sidwayz filter lean
@@PowerStrokeTechTalkwARod Yeah man. They got the clearance damn tight. It's always a chore to get the threads started holding a heavy ass primed filter. I always prime those old 7.3 filters to the top. The old 24v 5.9s as well.
ARod, like your video’s. Notice you didn’t tighten the filter per your comment, but what appeared to be snug tightness. Was it tightened more off camera?
Yes it was in fact!!!
Thanks for stoppin by 😉
13 quarts, dang! To think I thought 6 was alot for the little 2 liter turbo in my VW...
13 quarts is nothing! My 6.0 L powerstroke with a amsoil oil bypass filter takes 17 quarts!
Are you lubing the oring prior to installation???
@@PowerStrokeTechTalkwARod yes of course, a little extra from what I'm even comfortable with just to see. Still sticks on.
No shit....wow i havent heard of that. Are you reeeefin this thing down?
These engines need shorter intervals between oil changes. Why? Because no tang bearings would keep me up at night.
I need your help before I get ripped off need to ask you a question
I have an email listed....
Brother, this isnt high pressure oil.....common rail 😶 them days is long gone.....
Another a+ video. The extra at the end sets you apart from the wannabes. Keep up the excellent vids. Oh by the way how do we get them fancy stickers??
Got NEWER ones....email me!!!
I have never seen someone use so much brake kleen. Good for you though thats what separates the good mechanics from the hacks
MY REPAIRS DO NOT LEAVE DIRTY, PERIOD!🙋♂️
Lots of cold oil still in that engine?
Hey where i can buy that green spray bottle you have!!?!?!
Look up sure shot cans. Im sure you'll find it. You' need brake cleaner in bulk tho. Needs to be re-filled....
