I'll never understand the hate this movie gets. Probably because I grew up with it and it was one of my favorite films as a kid. I can remember watching it over and over in a single day
Kane Jacobs Yeah! same here man, this was my introduction to Godzilla, I even watched the animated series and got sad when it was canceled. Then I grew up and saw the original Godzilla movies and learned that majority of the fans didn't like the redesigned Godzilla specially in Japan.
Because it's NOT Godzilla!! It's creature from 20,000 fathoms, a early 50s monster movie. It was a spit in the face to Godzilla fans and the Japanese were VERY insulted by the movie.
I loved this movie and I like the design it’s just not Godzilla you know, I think zilla actually fits this monster better anyway not as an insult but it just fits I loved the animated series as well
Folker46 ! That's such a weak argument. I love Godzilla. I've seen every movie several times. And I honestly like this movie quite a lot more than many of the Japanese ones. Many of those where waaaay worse. Look at Minilla... How is zilla a "spit in the face to Godzilla fans" while Minilla is perfectly acceptable? Or all the campy things the "real" Godzilla has done like the way he fly's? or that weird dance thing he did?? Or when he made himself into a magnet??? But Zillas the insulting thing?
Kane Jacobs I will bypass all the usual rhetoric about how the creature looks and acts nothing like Godzilla. One reason this movie getd so much hate is because it was just not a good movie, the story was weak, the characters were badly written and the acting was bland to downright atrocious across the board. Remove ANY connection to Godzilla and it is STILL a bad movie.
Looks a lot like a Deathclaw without horns... I love this version of Godzilla, looks very nimble.
Don't make jokes about deathclaws that stuff there is real and I sure am thirsty for a ice cold nuka cola
This is Zilla in the Tokyo godzilla-verse
I really like this movie, even now xD I never thought it was bad at all. Def. not a Godzilla film in my opinion but, still a really awesome monster movie. I feel it would be viewed in a better light if it wasn't branded as Godzilla, because that's a huge ass name to live up to xD
I'm not sure, I think then people would just call it a bad Godzilla rip off
A sort of "damned if you do, damned if you don't" situation.
@@mattbrabham6351 zilla is pretty cool to me well I liked the son GODZILLA more tho he was awesome
I loved the actor who played the general, he was also Alan's father in Small Soldiers and Sam Witwicky's dad too I can just imagine if he had told Sam that he's dealt with worser things than Transformers lol. 💖😊
This thing looks like a death claw on steroids lol
lol
Benvoli0 C we gonna need a special fat man for this one 😩
Nah we just need is a nuke not a mini nuke
Not just any nuke
A Tsar bomba
Baring in mind a Deathclaw is already a lizard on steroids. Lol.
I knew that chin looked familiar
Happy 20th Anniversary Godzilla 1998!
The 1998 zilka movie is an ok movie but the monster itself is a shit show people should be ashamed to call that monster godzilla its zilla not godzilla
Sebastian Hovenäs No it's not!, Zilla's an awesome monster with cool traits such as speed, intelligence, asexually reproduction, and the ability to ignite things and make them explode with his "Power Breath".
Robert Savageau its called zilla u noob
Ok to be honest the monster is kinda cool but the fact that its called godzilla is just a fucking joke your playin with the true godzilla fans boy...
Hmmm speed, Intelligenece, sexually reproduktion and the ability to ignite things on fire thats totaly not godzilla by the way oh and also its called atomic breath bro
now i do enjoy the design of the monster as it looked "natural" in quotes but i always thought that the older godzilla design was fat looking but the modern godzilla movie in a way made it look better but thats due to better technology to work with
Even though I'm well aware of (and truly respectful of) how and why the Godzilla fan base as a whole hates this film and its respective Kaiju, that fact honestly *hasn't* diminished my true LOVE for this film! 😃👍🏻👍🏻
I personally dont give a shit what the Godzilla fanbase has to say. They dont determine what's a good movie or not. All they wanna do is rail against an adaptation just because it was different. True fans wouldnt be so petty but then what do you expect when the star wars fanbase has adult children crying about the prequels and how they aren't good. I personally dont like disneys versions but that's for legitimate reasons. The fanbase who hate the prequel trilogy dont really have any legitimate reasons to call it bad. Especially when their supposed reasons have been debunked numerous times.
20 years later and I still love this film!
This is the first Godzilla film I ever watched and it’s my favorite movie, I don’t care what anyone says, the creature design is awesome and the film itself its awesome👍
DinoMiguelito Same. 👍
Thanks!
I actually loved this movie as a kid, it was such a spectacle
My favorite monster from 1998, thank you.
This movie was my childhood, I wore down that VHS from watching it so often. I still remember the day my VHS machine broke and ate the tape.
Good that tape will never again be heard of good
Sebastian Hovenäs If you don't like that movie it's your problem. Don't go around shitting on people's childhood.
Ghosty Posty You ate the tape?
Warpig Thought it was spaghetti
Ghosty Posty thought i was the only one
i had a lizard just like that one
Gamer Puffin they grow up so fast
Like legit it grew up so fast it's like 450 meters tall
yes )))):::::
This was one of my favourite movie when I was young, then I saw a Japanese Godzilla movie and they just rename it as just Zilla in that movie, forgot which one, it’s the one where Godzilla is fighting multiple Kaiju, apparently they hated the American version so bad there, in that movie the original Godzilla beat this version so easily and toss it in the Sydney Opera House if I remember it right, sorry it’s been a while since I saw it.
Also if anyone wondering what happened to that last egg, they continued the story in the animated series.
darkovilos final war
I remember the series! Around the time the MIB series was running lol
The movie was good
That's a lot of fish
Tim S "That's one big pile of fish."- Ian Malcolm
You could do the original Toho Godzilla and also the Ultraman :D
Humam242 not ultra just original godzilla
Brilliant! will add that to the list now :)
@@filmcomicsexplained . Also Gamera😆😆😆!!!!
Mwiza Chihana gamera would fit in
Still like this movie
I never knew that detail about Shere Khan. Thanks!
I just remembered one thing I saw once, this Godzilla comes from a lizard and walks like a dinosaur, the original comes from a dinosaur, but walks like a bipedal lizard.
I think godzilla 1998 is a very underrated movie that deserves a sequel
The Grimm, RWBY explored.
YASSS
oh my!
YYYYYAAAAAAASSSSSSA
This was the 1st godzilla movie I ever saw and I find the design of the monster quite memorable
This is the first Godzilla that i watched and was my favorite version at the time of its release.
Only just found this channel, but I've been binging the vids. great work :D
The design of Godzilla from 1998 is in fact one of my favorites
This movie feels more realistic than the actual Godzilla movies, not hating on Godzilla though. I loved to replay this movie all the time when I was young, it's also one of my favorite movies, along side Jurassic Park.
My favorite movie of all time. Talk about a dope cartoon series as well. Darkest version of Mecha Godzilla ever imo.
Foostini
EYYYYY I watched the cartoon too!
The cartoon was awesome might even be better than the movie
ĸιng cold Eh, possessed desd robot Godzilla or alien-controlled dead parent that could still recognize its child, dark is dark :V
Somebody give me some bleach
ĸιng cold It’s not called Godzilla anymore. It’s just Zilla now. And Zilla Jr.
The dudes in those baby Godzilla suits were hilarious 😂
Yeah 1998 Godzilla movie is amazing yeah I love that Godzilla that Godzilla is better than the other Godzillas
I try to watch all of your videos! They are so informative! Keep up the great work!
Thanks for doing Godzilla 1998 Explained.
Grew up with this movie. Still my favorite kaiju.
I appreciate all the different designs of Godzilla over the years.
One of my favorite movies ever
I remember you saying that in my other video on Godzilla BarefootMark!
I know it is not popular with godzilla fans, but it is a favourite from my childhood!
I always think the way you introduce your self is so cool and i gotta that music you always use in your videos makes for a creepy yet awesome vibe in your video's i love it man and plus your voice is simply awesome always love your video's man keep up the great work
Loving the awesome vids dude, great work!
Thanks mate :)
No problem dude 👍
Just a suggestion would you be doing a video on Godzilla 2014, king Kong and Godzilla Earth from the Netflix original anime?
Sure! will add that to the list now :)
I really like this movie. It's part of my childhood.
Still my favorite godzilla.
Thank you for this!
I feel this entire video in my soul. Little River was very angry when the sweet loveable creature was killed
My first movie with giant movie monsters, and I love what is now known as Zilla with all my heart. I hope to one Day buy The rights to Zilla and make a movie that would fit more to The original Godzillas Legacy.
I loved this movie idc what no one says it may not my favorite original Godzilla but it’s an amazing Godzilla in it own way I love it
Also how about a creature comparison video, because certain monster movies tend to use similar monster and I wanted to see how you’d choose the better.
A good example is Lake Placid vs. Primeval, a croc off if you will.
great idea! will add that to the list now :)
As much as people hated this movie, I love this sense it was my first and I like the creativity in it
I loved this movie and still loves it.
I think I remember seeing this version of godzilla when the fild was shown on tv when I was little. It scared me a fair bit.
I absolutely adored this movie, and actually it's a somewhat accurate Godzilla if it were to exist in real life
Nice dude thank you for making these videos
Spinosaurus from JP3 next pls (Its not your regular dinosaur trust me)
I'll add it to the list now :)
Yes! The spinosaurs has been given a new history thanks to the new Jurassic World movies. Its on the JW and DPG website (official sites)
It was a regular dinosaur until in 2014 because Jurassic Park 3 was released in 2001, but it wasn’t fully completed its when a fully completed skeleton of a Spinosaurus was bombed by allied aircraft during World War II.
I saw this movie in cinema when i was kid, also because it was my first time in cinema i liked it alot. Maybe due to my age and because i didnt knew the original godzilla movies.
I suppose i will get tons of hate from people who despise this movie, i dont mind rewatching it again, since its one of my good memories of spending my time with my estranged father at that time.
IDC what anyone says I LOVED THIS GODZILLA DESIGN
Jyuubi Wolf same here
Marcos Moreno I agree
It's actually not a bad design, but it's definitely not Godzilla
YES
It was bought by toho the company that owns godzilla then killed on screen
It was then renamed and (for lack of better words) made better
people hate on this film because its not the so called king or whatever he was known to be, but the thing is, people need to realize this wasnt supposed to be like the rest. this was supposed to be a total different version and a more real life exisitng creature. it was meant to show what a creature like this would do in real life rather than just destroy cities and fight other monsters that we know wouldnt even exist,
it wasnt meant to be the same.
id say this was the best of the entire franchise because it was so different from the rest and had the most real life story line
Never understood why this movie was hated great effects great acting and on top of it great story for a reimagined film movie deserves more praise
Godzilla is one of my favorite monsters, I have a weakness for monsters tearing up cities
We all do!
I didnt want to destroy it! I just thought that a bunch of insects were biting me in
a forest!
Unpopular opinion: this one has the coolest design
you didnt mention that this version of godzilla was in a japanese movie but was named "Zilla" in a almost mocking way
I havent seen that one yet! Do you know what its called mate?
FilmComicsExplained It was Godzilla Final War, I think.
Almost every Godzilla movie that has come from Japan since the release of this movie, excluding Shin Godzilla, references this Godzilla as Zilla, and always depict it being super weak or fragile and incapable of much more than being a running gag
Please dont watch it its not a true godzilla film cause its not godzilla its zilla
yeah and one guy called zilla a "stupid fish eater" or something like that
This version is called Zilla and got destroyed by the real Godzilla within a few seconds in a Japanese Godzilla movie. It was epic!!
RTBFIT I honestly didn’t like the scene cuz
What was the point of adding a character if your just gonna kill it on screen in 5 seconds
@@Dragonmongamer They did it as a big FUCK YOU to that movie because it was called Godzilla but it had nothing to do with Godzilla. The director even said he wasn't a fan of Godzilla.
i honestly like this design of godzilla and i wish that they would have at least made the sequel to it because the script was already finalized and it looked like it was gonna be a good movie
This was the first Godzilla movie I watched when I was a kid and is responsible for my love for Godzilla
Great video bruh!
This movie is what introduced me to Godzilla and I love it. I also excited to see Godzilla king of monsters
Oh yes GODZILLA IS FREAKIN AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!
Army General : doctor nipple twistalotoffpiss?
Doctor : it's smith
Army general : whatever
i love your channel
People should love the 1998 Godzilla movie I love the movie
One of my favorite guilty pleasure movies.
Love your reviews. Keep up the good work.
Thanks Joy :)
Was gonna suggest something but i don't have one so, Keep up the good Work!
People hated this Godzilla but I loved this movie
Posted on the same day Wikizilla did his own Godzilla 1998 video! Now I get two Godzilla 1998 to watch!!
This is without a doubt one one of the most entertaining channels on YT
Agree 100%
I always see this in my mind when I think of Godzilla
I loved this movie growing up, I had all the toys and I watched the VHS so much it almost broke. This was the movie that got 8 year old me into the world of Godzilla films!
I had a plushie of this Godzilla. It was one of my favorite things to play with
i think the American Godzilla looked like a mix between a fire breathing dragon with no wings and a t.Rex /amazingly awesome video too/hope your all having an amazing day today too😌😇👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
I reckon it would love fish noodles
lol
Awesome video!
Personally, I never understood why people didn’t like this film. I know it’s not the OG Godzilla, but it was still good and the monster itself was awesome looking.
i actually liked this GodZilla although everyone seems to hate this one, actually from all the ones this was the one that people fought Godzilla the most so that’s why i liked it.
They also made an animated series as a follow up to the end of this film. It might be interesting for you to check out, as more emphasis is given on understanding the creature. Not to mention there's a whole plethora of monsters from the godzilla franchise detailed on in the series.
It's worth the watch, I highly recommend it!
GREAT MOVIE, I've been around longer and know far more about movies.
Great video, by a great youtuber, about a great film. Your content is always interesting.
Yeah totaly a great film you know it Would have been a great movie if GODZILLA WAS ACKUALY IN THE FUCKING MOVIE!!!
Oh what you mean zilla the big dinosaur right yeah not godzilla.
i like the 1998 godzilla / Zilla. i hope he makes it into the monster cinematic universe.
I personally disregard people who say “that’s not Godzilla” . As to me it is Godzilla just in an alternate reality. People love stories like Batman nosferatu and spiderman noir, even though they don’t look like their source material. yet they hate Godzilla 1998
Great video 👍👍
can you guys do an explaination of the Black Tar from Infamous? or the Rey Sphere
Awesome! Will add it to the list now :)
I've loved this movie since I was a kid! My mom used to tell me how I watched it many times per day almost every day, maybe this is what ultimately got me into monster/kaiju flicks
Looking back at it, it's not really worth the "Godzilla" name, but as a standalone monster movie, it's pretty solid
I seen this movie when I was a little kid
After seeing jurassic park for the first time you want to see everything Dinosaur related.
It was my introduction to Godzilla.
Never knew the history until I was in middle school looking through the heisei and millennium godzilla films.
As a kaiju that isn't Godzilla it's great.
The design and sound is cool.
In my eyes it was redeemed in the animated series doing more classic godzilla things.
If I were to introduce this to the legendary monsterverse I was have it as a genetic off branch of the Godzilla species.
Keep the spines and roar of the film similar like a cousin.
But distinctive in it's own right.
The idea for the sequel was cool and wish it was a thing since Tristar still had the rights to do another. But due to backlash Toho did their Millennium run.
💜🦖🖤
The movie that made me a kaiju fan
I always wondered why did everyone in this film had black umbrellas when it rained
can you do gremlins. that movies scared me as a child but it is an all time classic! great work btw
You know, this version is okay but I loved the 2014 version better.
You guys remember when the helicopters lost sight of Zilla?
I wish Zilla is in the Monsterverse!!!!! Who agrees?!
My go to movie!
I really enjoy this movie and i like its design
Second best interpretation of Godzilla next to Godzilla 2014
