pretty sure "the success of this label or the end of this label" was referring to the collaborated sub label of Hybe x Geffen, not HYBE as a whole 😭

I discovered through this show that what they meant by 'star quality' and I guess what Hollywood means by it is just when someone is so undeniably stunning that they can attract large fanbases. That's why Manon had to debut and why Bang PD also wanted Lexie to debut.

The irony is… it wasn’t mandatory to attend. They were also told to prioritize their mental & physical health first & foremost.
I’m not going to say Manon didn’t make mistakes because she did… but the way she was singled out by the girls as if she was the ONLY one not showing up every single day was fucked up.
Ironic how she took the most time to stay as healthy as possible… she made it into the group while those who had injuries after injuries didn’t make it. Sounds like while it’s understandable they felt some type of way… they pushed themselves past their limit & it cost them while Manon understood her limit & she made sure she was good enough to always perform at her best.

      @
Did you not watch the documentary?! Did you not listen to what all the girls have said?
It’s in the documentary that they were told to prioritize their mental & physical health first. Hence why they had a therapist on payroll. Missy came out after the fact & said attendance wasn’t mandatory. We can see in the documentary that other girls were not in attendance. Hell, Lexie purposely didn’t show for over a week straight. Yet, because they felt she had a valid reason, no one was upset at her messing up practices & such. (And no, I’m not mad at Lexie or saying she should have had a negative reaction so don’t even).
Manon addressed the situation, apologized & everyone who matters has already moved on. Manon has clearly grown in her work ethic. Besides, anyone with a brain could see she was the weakest in terms of skills & that had her thinking negatively.
Just like anyone who paid enough attention could see that Daniela was one of the first who realized that is what was going on. Helped her work through it, along with the non problematic adults that were around.
Again, I never said Manon wasn’t wrong in her actions. I’m also well aware some blame should be on the adults for not doing anything sooner. Many believe Manon was given special treatment just because she was scouted. Mind you, Lara & Manon both stated they still had to audition despite being scouted.
At the end of the day, y’all are harping & hating about something that happened almost 2 years ago.
P.S. Idk what you think I’m trying to convince myself of… but if it’s about the last paragraph… it’s just facts. Lexie had hip surgery & thus had to focus more on vocals. Same thing happened with Emily, though it was her foot but no surgery. Samara hurt her knee & couldn’t participate in a performance. Etc. Every single person who had an injury, especially when close to or during dream academy’s run, did not make it into the group. There’s nothing wrong with stating that these girls injured themselves, some to the point of surgery, just to not end up in the final line up.
I’m a firm believer that it’s dumb to teach people to push past their limits & destroy their body for something they love. Something you love shouldn’t cause you to harm yourself under the false belief that it’s normal. It’s not normal. Bodies have limits & knowing them is the best thing. Not pushing past your bodies limits is a healthy way of doing things.

I think that this is another example how the media is trying to put girls against one another. They were all (most of the time) very supportive of each other. Sure, they want to use that to gain fans too. But you can't fake like that all the time. I disliked it when Lexie quit the programm, but I thought it was very mature of her and she felt uncomfortable to keep on going. They can do shit like that behind the scenes now, imagine what they do when they are really famous? I applaud her for that decision. I also like Emily so much and was saddened that she didn't get chosen. I understand that her vocals weren't the best, but she was like a mother to the group.
And you are right. Missy was absolutely amazing, she was the only one of the staff to keep it real and professional.

10:12 Almost a year? Adela was there for two and a half years lmao. But I mean, that's a reality, even at school you spend years and years studying but that doesn't mean you're actually gonna make it in life in general, sad but true. Trainees in South Korea spend way more years training, the BLACKPINK members literally spent 4-6 years training for their debut.

I never thought about parents transmitting their dreams on their child's part. I think it depends on the situation because sometimes, the child wants to stop it.
I didn't watch this documentary because it was everywhere on social media but I think it was really a bad idea to show us this. We know that it is a survival and people will get mad, stressed, and sometimes not nice because they are just people. However, for the sake and longevity of the group, that was really a f**king bad idea, especially with some of the girls that bashed each other in the same group.

Totally agree on your comments regarding the Adela x Manon thing. Yes, Adela has every right to be mad at Manon‘s special treatment but girl, to make it about representation and Manon being black is foul at worst and ignorant of your white privilege at best.
Personality-wise, I really liked Lexie, Ezrela and Emily. Ezrela was so sweet to say something along the lines of „hey, if I don’t make it, I’ll still support Lara as a fellow Indian bc representation matters more to me than being actually in the group“. She is the sweetest!

The one thing the documentary showed us was that Geffen doesn’t understand what makes KPop so captivating. Like babe, we don’t care about talent, we care about them. We don’t refer to them as artists or musicians for a reason. They’re idols.
Both this show and the survival show brought awareness for katseye but it failed the reason for their existence. It didn’t really market the girls at all.

Yes, but this group isn't KPOP. They will be an US based group with english lyrics and global girls. Only one part of their label is Korean. This show is for US fans and they watch more brutal shows then this.

@lukemomsen9393 how is it going you ask ? Their sales didn't go abysmal because of the docu serious it actually had a uptick , went from 1k in hanteo first week to 29k in billboard 200 album sales by female artist ranking 16th , for a unknown girl group that's very impressive . Anyways I'm also against the docu series . It did create division among the fandom but it was a successful marketing strategy at the end . Touch and debut both saw a huge jump in stream after the docu series . So idk what you're talking about.
