I've always felt that the therapy session being publicised was manipulative because the show runners took advantage of the fact that the girls would be encouraged to say everything that's on their mind (e.g. their thoughts about other contestants) in somewhere that's meant to be a safe space for them to create a certain narrative for drama.
Given the fact that the girls are young and were in a vulnerable place mentally in a competitive environment, they probably didn't have the foresight to consider how their words would be interpreted by viewers and manipulated by the showrunners despite their thoughts and feelings being understandable.

    • @vermelho7801

Tbh they were young teenagers so it’s understandable that they are a bit childish and immature. That is the raw content that they want and how genuine it is. Plus it’s a reality TV show, but the problems were solved eventually. Its normal for them to fight but not to an extend where they would hate each pther and jealous about it. Manon acknowledged her fault, that is fine. Its the process pf training.

I actually even got the impression that Adela just dared to voice what a lot of the contestants were thinking, so that's why i find the hate against her especially unfair

    • @edenlewis2538

I think the producers and directors didn’t like Adela because she was very confident and stood on her values. The other girls followed her and were very close to her. They can’t manipulate her like the others. The other girls tended to listen to her and probably would stand by her in the future. I think the company felt her personality was too strong for those reasons.

You bring up so many valuable points. I think people forget that they're young girls and women being exploited and thrown into a highly volatile and stressful survival show (which they didnt even know was going to happen?!!?!). On top of that, like you said, some of the girls gave everything, they left their countries, learned a new language, dropped out of school, etc. People need to give the girls grace and turn their frustration to the adults, the producers, and the trainers who didn't advocate for the girls.

I liked that they showed that because it’s, well, realistic. I mean one would feel unfairly treated if someone who was clearly less experienced than them was favored over them. Also I guess all the girls kept ignoring the fact that every group in kpop needs a visual and Manon was that visual she stood out among 20 girls so obviously she was gonna make the lineup. Also I felt like some of the girls bonded over or just took refuge in or consoled themselves with the idea of “oh you can be talented but they only care about looks”

I will never understand why you would release a documentary about a girl group that highlights their beefs and shows them at their worst, and then try and sell us the image of a unified cohesive group. Like that’s literally the opposite of what you want when you’re trying to market “girl power” to your target audience. Because now they went from a group of friends that support each other (based on the audience perception) to a group that resents each other. I’m sure the girls are fine since this is two-year old drama at this point, but I can only imagine how hard this was for them to watch. Hybe just created an unnecessary scandal for no apparent reason.

@@noname-uj3qo Hybe would be right if this were just a reality show. But this isn’t that. This was a documentary about a real life group, in which them getting along is crucial for their longevity. Also the optics are bad because now they all come across as resentful of each other. People are taking sides and sending hate comments, which could potentially open up old wounds for the group members and affect their group dynamic. The people that watched the documentary were likely already fans of the group, I doubt they pulled in THAT many new people. If anything, their song “Touch” going viral is doing that for them, which is exactly what you would want from a new music group. The music to speak for itself.

I dont understand why everyone wants to me to feel angry at Manon getting pretty privilege, as if any of these guys had beyonce level talent, they took spaces of "less conventionally attractive" girls positions too to even appear on the show, like lets be real, Samara is literally the only girl in the whole show who could dance and sing well and had star power, but she had her racist against indians/ israel controversy
Manon came for her looks and seeing as how many fans she has she clearly captured the fans she was predicted to and did her job, her job is to entertain and get fans, hybe never contacted her because she was this amazing singer or dancer

She's not r*cist or z*onist. And she would have probably debuted since she ranked higher than Manon in all of the missions and on the finale Manon had more early voting but Samara had more live voting, so it all came down to the judges score in performing and they were evaluating the Dirty Water and All The Same performances which don't get me wrong Manon doesn't do bad in any of those but Samara does better than her, SPECIALLY Dirty Water, Samara owns that song, in Dirty Water Samara does better than all of the girls

The main reason why it was handled poorly based on performance training in a high intense enviornment is because this was the very first time that HYBE was gonna do a collaboration with another record label from a different country. The collab with Geffen Records (Olivia Rodrigo's label, Selena Gomez's label, Guns N Roses) and having this goal of making sure that this academy and then the group become so well known in the United states was and is a huge deal, which is why I didn't think it was a good idea for the head of HYBE to decide to debut the competition earlier. For the people who didn't watch the doc, the head of HYBE chose to debut the competition more sooner than originally planned, so I think that played a huge role in the competitiveness while also not having enough time to process the girls's teammates leaving as soon as they get eliminated.

i agree with the representation and that people voted for their representation. after all i think that's what everyone was doing. i'm slav/eastern european. there are like zero slavic girl in the global music industry so when I've seen Adela and Illya I was very excited since they were both very talented. But of course, the voting system didn't favour our region, so I knew my girls had no chance. I was irritated how many people tried to dismiss what Adela said about representation because as someonoe currently living in Slovakia, there are very few Slovak singers being successful even in Slovakia not alone globally. The global music industry is taking over and even contestants of singing shows like "Slovak Idol" or other "talent shows" don't help that much when labels and radios are pushing for Sabrina Carpenter, Miley Cyrus and so on. (i love them but why can't we have our own idols who are closer to us?) There had to be laws changed that radio stations need to play at least some slovak songs per day, which are usually pushed to 1AM when no one is listening. People say "But they are white" Yes they are white but what else do we have in common? Culturally and behaviourally we're totally different, I'd say we have more in common with some Asian cultures than "western" culture. I'm a bit sad that I didn't get the representation I wanted but I've seen Adela is making solo debut so hopefully she will do well. Hopefully, Katseye will do well, move on from this weird docu series, be successful and bring joy to fans worldwide too!

A huge problem that I've noticed for a while is that, black girls in media are not given the same chance to be teens who make mistakes, as their non black counterparts are. Im not saying their frustration was invalid, I just wish there was more compassion and direct communication.
