That’s not the narrative. They were saying that some countries go really hard for their representatives, but others don’t. It just is what it is. Let’s be honest: we Latin Americans (I’m Puerto Rican) DO push for our people 100%. In LATAM communities online I’ve seen people say “vote for Samara and Celeste because they’re from LATAM!” instead of “vote for X because she’s talented!” It is what it is. And it’s okay that some of the girls feel bad that people from their countries/ethnicities don’t support them that much.

I think she could have done better, but I agree she was able to do better during Mission 2. She needs more experience performing, as she seemed very (understandably) nervous. But it's impossible to deny that she has visual and superstar potential.

Like literally, I came back to this video just to see that part again bc I'm flabbergasted. Besides, that was a TALENT show not a "how many people can you collect with your nationality"
9:06 the thing is, i do agree with brooklyn that some contestants are definitely receiving a lot of hype partly due to their nationality. latin american and filipino fans are really into nationalism and it’s obvious to all the girls at this point. however, she needs some self-awareness. other american contestants, such as emily, are popular. and there are contestants such as iliya who really don’t have an active fanbase from their country, but still recieve lots of support from others. so at this point, brooklyn should realise that the reason she’s one of the least popular isn’t because she’s american but because people didn’t find her to be as impressive or charismatic as the others.
Even without being a Filipino, everyone understood at this point that Sophia is really the star of this show as she has the most star quality above others. You can just tell it with the way she speaks.
@Diyel I don't agree with that at all. I don't think any of them is the star of the show yet, it's too soon. To be biased is one thing, to put one of them at the top already with only 2 missions out is another, and I think it's crazy. But obviously that's my opinion and I do get yours, just don't think the same :)
Finally a no mean comment about what Brooklyn said! I second your thoughts, but I think people do not like Brooklyn's voice color/tone. It has nothing to do with her personality or charisma. Actually I found that thanks to these vlog videos I Got to like her. Her personality is SO bubbly and she is so Nice too, it is impossible to no like her. Also, she is a charismatic dance and I really liked her at Fearless, but it's her voice tone the problem. Hers is a little weird to me, and I really don't like how she sound most of the time, which is such a sad thing since I really like her character 🫠
I love how they kept Karlee talking abt her experience and restraining herself to see what the public thinks abt her and the other trainees. It's beautiful and so realistic to know they are going thru issues as well and aren't just these perfect people with smiles on their face.
15:05 Brooklyn there are American contestants that have lots of support and are ranked high. And remember Chanelle? You are upset that YOU aren't ranked high.
It's so great when they show all the girls interacting, but it's still uncomfortable when some are ignored or barely shown while others get a lot of focus! hybe we still have 18 girls in the competition
lara face doesnt look like mean.. she just have mystery aura around her face.. we are always courious about lara.. she has idol star aura.. she can be great model too
HYBE THIS IS WHAT WE NEED! MORE CONTENT ON THE CONTESTANTS! I really do hope that the girls that don’t make it, debut in other groups under HYBE! They have the talent and charisma!
9:05 okay, let’s REALLY unpack this. its a super interesting issue. brooklyn is lamenting the fact that she doesn’t have a loyal fanbase because of her nationality or ethnicity. she looks at girls like samara and celeste, and sophia, who are from latin america and the philipines respectively. they have received massive amounts of support and hype, oftentimes accompanied by nationalistic sentiments, such as representing the country they’re from. she’s a white girl from texas, and she’s wondering why she doesn’t receive that tangible loyalty from white american fans. i’ll tell her why. countries such as the philipines and those in latin america are often underrepresented in mainstream western media. women of that heritage are often overlooked in favour of their white counterparts. as an aside - brooklyn 99 is an interesting show because it deliberately went against that norm. melissa fumero and stephanie beatriz are both latina women within a select ensemble cast. i remember an interview where one of them said, that when they heard the show had already casted a latina woman, she gave up on the hope of being casted too. the reason for that is that american tv often has a “box-ticking” approach to diversity. they employ the minimum standard and call it a day. but the casting director brooklyn 99 recognised the importance of casting based on merit, and both actresses have received endless praise for how much they bring to the show and how much they suit their roles. back to dream academy. so, when these underrepresented countries get their own representatives on a show like this, viewed by a global audience, the fans go crazy. they’re so excited to see themselves as a part of this, and so grows this deep loyalty towards the contestants of their country. but wait, why do white people not do that? because they’re _so used to being represented already._ they don’t attach themselves to white contestants in the way that other ethnicities do because they’ve always had the privilege of being able to pick and choose who they see themselves in. and this all stems from white privilege, as the entertainment industry in america has been heavily dominated by white people since its birth. take the film industry as an example. the majority of it having consisted of white directors and actors for decades. things are changing now, and with that change comes beautifully diverse creations, broader viewpoints and more interesting nuanced discussion. so obviously, people are wanting to see this positive change in the music industry too. so, in conclusion, brooklyn’s privilege as a white person is proving to be a double edged sword. largely, of course, it works to her favour, in that she will never be discriminated against or made fun of or alienated or ostracised because of her ethnicity. she’ll also never have to struggle with a dual identity the way that the biracial girls do. but at the same time, she doesn’t get that intense loyalty from fellow white people, and so in a competition partly based on global votes, she may feel hard done by.
Brooklyn had a lot of lines to sing in mission 1, the same happened in mission 2. Even though she didn't have all those points you mentioned, she did have several opportunities to captivate the audience with her charisma, her stage presence and her voice. But she didn't succeed, and it wasn't for lack of opportunity. This "being American means being at a disadvantage" excuse is very bad. You can only conclude that she is unaware of how privileged she was during the show, as well as being naturally privileged to be white and American. When I heard that part, I didn't react. Like girl, omg. Unbelievable.
This is an incredibly well thought out and accurate comment. I hope people read this and understand what you are exposing right here in terms of diversity and privilege. I can testify that it felt strange to me she said she doesn't get support because in my eyes as a Latin person I would've though the opposite, that she would've had it easier to get votes because of her being a white american. Taking into consideration the inmense rise in popularity of kpop/asian related things in america. This was a huge eye opener in terms of their pov's and their own perception of things. I do have to clarify, I personally vote base on who blends well and how I see them in the group, regardless of their specific background or ethnicity. That being said, as you mentioned, when people like me see someone like Celeste, Daniela or even Samara we feel represented. It doesn't matter if you speak or not the language, you are Latin in my eyes. I feel seen in an industry that most likely wouldn't pay attention to the consumers in other markets besides their pre-established ones or ones their sure of investing in. I don't get the concerts, events, special editions or even the slightest recognition, so as a viewer and a consumer I take what I can get. Daniela feels like her spanish isn't great, their's many Latin people born in the states with the same background, I mean Becky G is an example of that. She struggled to find herself in the "in between" aka being a LatinX person. Someone who grows with english and spanish alike, in between two cultures that seems like an impossible dilemma. A war of "you aren't this but also not that either". Same goes to with Megan. I grew up with asian culture around me so whether I choose it or not, it is a part of me. So I completely understand how their both feeling. They want to show who they are but haven't had the chance to and feel frustrated. I'm sure every mixed or multicultural girl shares those feelings with them. As far as the show goes, I can tell their all very creative individuals. I just wish the voting system was different and we got more insight like in this video.
I understand you but we also have to get into the minds of the American voters. You can see especially on Twitter how so many have this self hate complex, “I don’t trust that white b**ch, not voting for her, etc,” and their votes all consist of other contestants. Most Americans don’t really have this sense of self pride unless they’re extremely patriotic. I agree with you on the part of how Americanization of the world has led for them to be able to see themselves in practically every big screen, meaning they won’t really root for other Americans in this competition because it’s nothing new to them. But I don’t think we should put down her feelings when she’s valid for feeling hurt of not having support from her countrymen.
This comment is very accurate, and you are right!!! As an Argentine who has ethnic origins, I loved it, and it's true, seeing that there was a girl representing Argentina and Colombia made me super happy because this never happens, the same with Brazil, it's nice that these girls are there representing us as Latinos. In addition, Argentina not only supports Celeste, but also Samara, Manon, Sophia, Daniela, etc. Fun fact, Stephanie Beatriz (Rosa Diaz) is Argentine with Colombian parents, like Celeste😭❤️ I love that you named that show, it's my favorite❤️ Btw I don't think Brook is a bad girl, she just doesn't realize the tremendous privilege she has yet. And actually Celeste is super talented, so I don't see the problem to suport her hehe.

About the votes, it is true that they vote for their country. But it is also true that the USA is a VERY big country and that historically the music industry was concentrated there, and that is still the case. I am not sure that these American girls know how difficult it is enter the global industry being a smaller country. So I will continue voting for whoever I want, they are all talented!!❤
(contudo, as estatunidenses sempre terão meio caminho andado)

i agree, my top 6 (nayoung, lara, megan, samara, sophia, and manon) doesn’t include ezrela, but she is one of my favorite contestants. i think with certain girls emerging as frontrunners (samara, manon, sophia, and maybe lara), it creates an image of a group that feels hard to place ezrela into. i’d say if you could make a group with less emergent members, her placement would feel more sensible - for example, lexie, yoonchae, ezrela, mei, and a few other members might make sense as a full group.
@@digestmymind same 😭 you see the vision! not to ramble, but even following classic kpop team composition formula it feels cohesive - sophia as the leader, nayoung/lara/samara carrying the vocal line, manon as the visual, and megan as the main dancer (and i think having a vocal-heavy team would help influence her developing more vocal confidence, and her taking the lead in dance would set a good precedent for the other girls who already seem like they can hold their own). this lineup in my head could GO places

These girls are speaking their mind and their concerns but then they gonna pass it off as "NARRATIVES"
I want Sophia to be my friend 😭😭 She's so loud, so funny, she's so expressive she really showed how excited she was, how nice it was to be with her and be friends
Ezrela is meant to be in front of an audience. She exudes beautiful energy ❤
it's so beautiful to see how Lara cares about Samara, it's great to see how friendly they interact with each other. I really admire this friendship that is growing!
I would like to thank whoever decided to let us hear their conversations at their dinner, the conversations felt real and meaningful and we see them more for their character and personality rather than girls on a screen. I would like to see more content like this because this insight is quite beautiful to hear as a viewer
I hope that Manon knows that she was amazing in mission 2 and we can see her efforts paying off ! 💜
💙
I think she could have done better, but I agree she was able to do better during Mission 2. She needs more experience performing, as she seemed very (understandably) nervous. But it's impossible to deny that she has visual and superstar potential.
Them fangirling over Enhypen so cute!
i mean they're about to debut under the same company as their idols, it's so heartwarming.. :')
@SyccRi they've always been a fan as much as I know Sophia has been a fan for a really long time 😭💗
@@SyccRiits technically not the same company, they will be managed by geffen and hybe america which is a whole other division of hybe not linked to the korean labels
Verdad que si? 🥺
@@orbitsomnia Even Hybe Japan &Team but still promote in Korea and used Hybe practice room. Seventeen under Pledis still under HYBE, Enhypen under Belift still under HYBE, New Jean under Ador still under HYBE, Le Serrafim under Source Music still under HYBE so HYBE America is still under HYBE. So no matter where your group was established you will still under HYBE group. So Dream Team debut team KATSEYE will still under HYBE. ENHYPEN's agency Belift was under HYBE and CJE NM but HYBE bought out CJE NM and now Belift is 100% under HYBE. Pledis is 80/20 and other Agency as well are not 100% HYBE. Like literally, I came back to this video just to see that part again bc I'm flabbergasted. Besides, that was a TALENT show not a "how many people can you collect with your nationality"
Its really rare to see a trainee share their feeling in a survival show .. this is so touching and great .. love you girls ❤❤
MANON has been working soo hard she is so sweet and very soft spoken i hope she knows she did great 😭
LARA, SOPHIA, SAMARA, DANIELA, MEGAN, MANON, NAYOUNG

Looks like Sophia and Ezrela are really close💚 my hearteuuuu
They're the first batch of trainee from Dream Academy they know each other since 2021. I saw their interaction in Social Media before the show start.
Finally someone put that into words, I agree 100%
Even without being a Filipino, everyone understood at this point that Sophia is really the star of this show as she has the most star quality above others. You can just tell it with the way she speaks.
But I agree with her. I don't understand why Filipinos blindly overrate Sophia with the nationalism idea.
7:48 ohhh i see manon and sophia along with UA, mei, yoonchae and nayoung, so glad to see these girls together eating
I love how they kept Karlee talking abt her experience and restraining herself to see what the public thinks abt her and the other trainees. It's beautiful and so realistic to know they are going thru issues as well and aren't just these perfect people with smiles on their face.
Lara and Samara's bond aaaaaaa i wish we could see more of the two of them together and interacting
Sophia and Manon Queens 👑
Samara, lara, sophia, nayoung, Daniela, ezrela, yoonchae /megan 🔥final debut going to be
15:05 Brooklyn there are American contestants that have lots of support and are ranked high. And remember Chanelle? You are upset that YOU aren't ranked high.
It's so great when they show all the girls interacting, but it's still uncomfortable when some are ignored or barely shown while others get a lot of focus! hybe we still have 18 girls in the competition
watching the girls have a day off was a refreshing change of pace :) that being said, nayoung/lara/megan/samara/sophia/manon DREAM TEAM LETS GOOOOOOO

vao estar debutando!!
Sophia,Manon,Samara,Ezrela,Lara and Nayoung let’s debut girls
Ezrela was born to be an idol. If she doesn't debut somone else should definitely debut her. I loover her personality, she's super cute and smart
9:05 okay, let’s REALLY unpack this. its a super interesting issue.
brooklyn is lamenting the fact that she doesn’t have a loyal fanbase because of her nationality or ethnicity. she looks at girls like samara and celeste, and sophia, who are from latin america and the philipines respectively. they have received massive amounts of support and hype, oftentimes accompanied by nationalistic sentiments, such as representing the country they’re from.
she’s a white girl from texas, and she’s wondering why she doesn’t receive that tangible loyalty from white american fans. i’ll tell her why.
countries such as the philipines and those in latin america are often underrepresented in mainstream western media. women of that heritage are often overlooked in favour of their white counterparts. as an aside - brooklyn 99 is an interesting show because it deliberately went against that norm. melissa fumero and stephanie beatriz are both latina women within a select ensemble cast. i remember an interview where one of them said, that when they heard the show had already casted a latina woman, she gave up on the hope of being casted too. the reason for that is that american tv often has a “box-ticking” approach to diversity. they employ the minimum standard and call it a day. but the casting director brooklyn 99 recognised the importance of casting based on merit, and both actresses have received endless praise for how much they bring to the show and how much they suit their roles.
back to dream academy. so, when these underrepresented countries get their own representatives on a show like this, viewed by a global audience, the fans go crazy. they’re so excited to see themselves as a part of this, and so grows this deep loyalty towards the contestants of their country.
but wait, why do white people not do that?
because they’re _so used to being represented already._
they don’t attach themselves to white contestants in the way that other ethnicities do because they’ve always had the privilege of being able to pick and choose who they see themselves in. and this all stems from white privilege, as the entertainment industry in america has been heavily dominated by white people since its birth.
take the film industry as an example. the majority of it having consisted of white directors and actors for decades. things are changing now, and with that change comes beautifully diverse creations, broader viewpoints and more interesting nuanced discussion. so obviously, people are wanting to see this positive change in the music industry too.
so, in conclusion, brooklyn’s privilege as a white person is proving to be a double edged sword. largely, of course, it works to her favour, in that she will never be discriminated against or made fun of or alienated or ostracised because of her ethnicity. she’ll also never have to struggle with a dual identity the way that the biracial girls do. but at the same time, she doesn’t get that intense loyalty from fellow white people, and so in a competition partly based on global votes, she may feel hard done by.
Fun fact, Stephanie Beatriz (Rosa Diaz) is Argentine with Colombian parents, like Celeste😭❤️ I love that you named that show, it's my favorite❤️
Btw I don't think Brook is a bad girl, she just doesn't realize the tremendous privilege she has yet.
And actually Celeste is super talented, so I don't see the problem to suport her hehe.
7:12 Lexie is such an emo queen, I cant even. she rocks that shirt like no one else, and those gloves are everything. she giving such a major vibes, yall Im rooting for it.

Totally agree, couldn’t have said it better myself.
yep, thanks for articulating it.

Samara so cute
Nessa hora a Samara ficou tipo assim:
👁👄👁 (tadinha)
(contudo, as estatunidenses sempre terão meio caminho andado)

Lexie, Ezrela, Nayoung, Megan, Sophia, Samara, Nayoung, Celeste!
honestly ezrela really stands out. she is very talented and seems kind and smart. i feel bad because i dont support her as much as i should because its hard to envision her in a group with my other favorites. thats ridiculous i know but i wonder if anyone one else feels similar. im also kind of rooting for her the most. all of them are very charming, good job hybe!
Exaaactly my thoughts.. I just like, i cant include her in the top 6 but at the same time if i want to add another trainee i want her in the place.. i really dont know wat to do atp.. and u know wat, she is originally from india..BUT , thats also from my state.. we are mallus.. i'm just really conflicted rn.. so i'm voting her as an intermediate way..🥲
i agree, my top 6 (nayoung, lara, megan, samara, sophia, and manon) doesn’t include ezrela, but she is one of my favorite contestants. i think with certain girls emerging as frontrunners (samara, manon, sophia, and maybe lara), it creates an image of a group that feels hard to place ezrela into. i’d say if you could make a group with less emergent members, her placement would feel more sensible - for example, lexie, yoonchae, ezrela, mei, and a few other members might make sense as a full group.
@@cardcaptortwink We have the same exact top 6 lol. They just seem like such a clear group to me.
7:42 M&U*N&Y are so cute and sorry for them feel down and worried......and it's also soo cute that Manon and Shopia are just eating si;ently while they are talking lol. This scene is so cute.
