Not sure if this is meant to be sarcastic, but it does prove a point... The more you restrict people to do things, the more they will find ways around it. Eventually the intention to be safe could cause people to do more dangerous things.
True. Ironically it would be safer if they just let us use hands free devices. If anybody’s worried about drivers falling asleep, they should petition for it to be illegal for humans to drive.
That is super sketch dawg. What if you trynna dodge a car or something coming onto you from the right side, maybe avoid an object on the road and the only option is to move over to the right left immediately?
I thought of putting a weight on the steering wheel, but then, knowing myself, I figured I'd get lazy and it wouldn't end well. Instead, I rest (typically) my left hand on the cross bar on the wheel. Just the weight of my hand is sufficient to eliminate the nagging. And I've taken my MYLR from Toronto to Orlando 5 times; in all of that highway driving, my technique works. Stay safe!
The bungee moves and doesn't affect quick, radical changes to the wheel. But you wouldn't want to rotate the wheel more than one whole turn. Maneuvers on the interstate shouldn't need more than a quarter turn on the wheel.
LOL'd at the ending hahahahaha I am constructing my own cord that has the magnetic breakaway based on this concept because you really do need to have the ability to turn the wheel lol here is the plan - buy some RB36 C8 15 LB Pull Force 36mm magnets - buy some bungee cords - Cut the hook off the bungee cords (leaving the metal part - glue the metal piece of the bungee to the magnet - wrap and connect If you have an emergency and need to swing the wheel around, it will automatically disconnect. PS (I also heard moving the cheat device to the other side of the steering wheel every 5-10 minutes eliminates the message)
Yeah magnetic is a good idea. But in my defense, this design does allow one full turn of the wheel with no issues. But magnetic break away would be better
I dismissed the Bungee option before even trying, considering it would not be "manageable" in sudden maneuvers. I just use the sandbag weight on a scrunchy-looking Velcro strap. Worked until today when it was sitting on the left side of the steering wheel and I used turn signals stalk that is also on the left. 😂 Only 1 strike so far. 😉
When I saw this thumbnail I got super excited lol. Most of these comments are clearly from haters and non Tesla owners. The idea of a variable tension device is very clever, have you tried it without the weighted piece? One improvement I would suggest right away would be a magnetic breakaway instead of the ball-loop things, just in case you had to suddenly take over.
Yes it works without the weight, I just leave the weight on there for city driving. I love your idea of the magnetic breakaway. I may try to design something with that incorporated.
This isn't even FSD just AutoPilot - no wonder 2M cars are being recalled to enforce driver attention with people doing this type of 'innovative' stuff.
I think this with some sort of rare earth magnet that would disconnect if you happened to turn more than necessary… I’m going to try it and report back.
You bunch of dangerous MF's. Improvisation, that's what makes us human. That's the best laugh I've had for a long time. All this eloquent and sophisticated development defeated by a rubber band. 😄
There's a reason why tests are done in spaces intended for testing. You're putting other people's life at risk, cause you don't want to drive your car. JFC
Its annoying and fit starts to go off even when you go hands off for just a couple seconds. Guess what I can hold the wheel with my knee while I'm opening a pack of sour patch kids. Like seriously fuck off tesla. Most cars keep going straight for hundreds of feet with no input while I'm fighting with a pack of red vines but tesla AUTOPILOT loses its shit if I unscrew the cap on my water bottle.
What I want to know is who actually hates driving so much they want the car to drive for them. One of my greatest joys is jumping behind the wheel and hitting the highway with the music playing and smoke rolling out the windows. Driving is such a thrill, I would never give it up, even if the car is better than me. I rarely even use cruise control, or lane hold. Though stability control is nice ;)
I don't believe that Teslas are "one of the most crashed vehicles in the world". Teslas attract attention, but if a Ford crashed, it likely won't make the news at all.
ngl tesla drivers need to have a routine driving test every 1 year with a real car that doesnt have automatic breaking and autopilot. yall forget how to drive after 2 weeks of owning theese glorified sedans/unsafe brick (AKA the cybertruck)
There won't be a law that says "you must not put a bungee around your steering wheel". However, there will be a law about making sure nothing interferes with your ability to control the vehicle, and attaching a bungee to the steering wheel will definitely violate that.
Not sure if this is meant to be sarcastic, but it does prove a point... The more you restrict people to do things, the more they will find ways around it. Eventually the intention to be safe could cause people to do more dangerous things.
We as humans don't often like to be told what to do. It can be a curse
Lol this is ridiculously dangerous.
You might be right!
Not if your a light sleeper.

Does this still work with the newest updates?
would incorporate light test fishing line into that setup for emergencies (easier to break than bungee)... other than that, nice work.
What if you need to me make a sudden steering wheel move on a freeway?

Please don't ruin it for us - they're gonna make it even stricter after seeing this video...
I sure hope no one important sees this video
@Tyler_deJong don't listen to them buddy I'm on your side- this autopilot has become just about useless.
Have you figured out a better solution than Bungies yet? Maybe large marbles instead of water in the pipe? For science
Thank you I love it

Great idea Dr. Kevorkian !
yup, I have my own system that uses a similar system, but thats dangerous AF

Well actually it's the other way around. I did this BECAUSE of the recall/software update
This is one reason I won’t buy a tesla. Toyota/hondas don’t care about my hands free device, they just keep truckin.
I think this with some sort of rare earth magnet that would disconnect if you happened to turn more than necessary… I’m going to try it and report back.
Amazon sells magnetic bungee cords... going to try it, did you have any luck? lol

seems pretty cool but also pretty risky. What happens if you get banned multiple times from autopilot? Does it extend to a month or something?
As far as I know, there is no further punishment than the week ban but I'd like to find out from someone who has more information than me.
No. it is for a week. Which is bad enough.
Link for bungies?
Bought mine at Advance Auto Parts
with basic autopilot and using the bungies, does it still track your eyes if you glance on the screen or phone too long ?@@Tyler_deJong
and this is after the stricter software update from holiday release right @Tyler_deJong
@@nicoparisi8036 Correct
@@Tyler_deJong so it still tracks eyes? Basic autopilot didn’t track eyes forever but now suddenly does after the update :/ annoying
Why don't you just put your hands on the wheel ? Have you gone for a sleep in the back ?
No there's a sensor in the driver's seat that kicks you off autopilot if you leave the seat

Me is who. I hate driving probably as much as you love it.
Bro once I seen it my eyes opened😳 this is deff not safe
You are the problem!
My mom always said that growing up
Sketchy 👀
man but in a serious emergency where that shits gotta swerve out of the way i dont want a piece of cord stopping it from doing just that
You are insane.
👏
Now we know why Tesla's are one of the most crashed vehicles in the world.
Is that true? Can you link an article?
@Tyler_deJong I keep trying to link the article and it keeps getting removed. It's from Forbes if you wish to check it out, Google is your friend.
I don't believe that Teslas are "one of the most crashed vehicles in the world". Teslas attract attention, but if a Ford crashed, it likely won't make the news at all.

I am forgetting how to drive
very true, last week I had to drive full size truck. It made me hold on to the steering wheel the whole time, it was excruciating
fool
Just lazy
Exactly!
I mean, there's a reason why FSD is in beta and limited. This is just illegal and stupid
If this is illegal, would you please share the criminal code associated? I'd like to read about it.

Tell your insurance company about your innovation and let's see what they have to say about it. 😂
