People underestimate this short story, but it really is quite dynamic. Nathan Grantham was so much more than just a crochety old man that Bedilia was stuck taking care of in hospice. He abused her as a girl, had the one man she only ever truly loved murdered out of jealousy in a "hunting accident", and then, after he stripped her of everything that mattered to her, forced her to care for him full-time as he slowly aged and became evermore insufferable. When she finally snapped from all of the abuse and trauma, and murdered him in an effort to rid herself of him for all eternity, she in fact only memorialized him in her guilty conscious, until that very same guilt became the end of her, and the entire Grantham family. Truly remarkable storytelling, in my opinion.
I always do the “EMiLiA” bit with my family, along with her screaming “AAhHhG, AAgHAgGhH” my family always laughs lolol. The acting was so overtop in the best way 😂 The “OhHh MyYy GaWWWd” and the delayed lip sync for the girl screaming at the end, was perfect 😂
I swear the maid is like: "Are you gonna do anything about this, once and for all?" Or: "Is she finally gonna snap today?" Either way, the answer was yes.
When I saw this scene for the first time, I ran to my room crying. Considering how much I loved my Father, I couldn't believe that Bedelia would do that to her Dad. All he wanted was his Father's Day cake! The catch to this story is that I was only 6 years old when I saw Creepshow on Cable TV back in 1984. Looking back at it now, I see how the father was a mean bastard to Bedelia by calling her a Bitch. I still wouldn't have bludgeoned him to death though.

We know that it wasn't directed at her, of course, but she had to be cringing, just to put up with it, in order for her to have a job! She was one of two people that was unjustly killed by Nathan Grantham, when he "Arose from the dead", the other one being Henry...oops! I meant to say "Hank". Remember, kiddies...he likes to be called "Hank"! Anyways: Poor Mrs. Danvers was pretty much forced to be silent, when she witnessed the dead body of Nathan Grantham...and that act of omission on her part, when she could've chosen to do the right thing, and given her own account to the Police...that act of omission on her part, could most definitely be the reason, for Nathan Grantham's corpse turning her into a corpse! The Old Boy had himself quite a murder spree... didn't he? And it was all because...he wanted his cake. It's what he wanted for his Birthday, and never got it... Until now!
I remember on my 21st birthday and the first time getting heavily drunk this scene came to mind laughing my ass off. Because the old man looks like Bernie Sanders!

I love that the comic book contains elements of the original script. However, I was always curious about why there were missing members of the Grantham family. We know that Sylvia was the paternal aunt of Richard and Cass, but their parents are obviously abscent, just as Sylvia's mother and father (the latter being the brother of Bedelia). Not important to the story, I know, but it always bugged me. 😅
I bought the soundtrack (which is exceptional btw) primarily for the first 18 seconds of this and its not included on it.still,Romero rarely used original music and John Harrison did a remarkeble job with this
