How will the AI handle this? I got bored with Civ 6, because the AI players played so terribly. IMO Firaxis should focus on better AI first, and not prettier graphics.
There is so much I dislike about Civ 7 and was struck, in this video, that there is just one promotion tree for the commander so that all their troops share this one ability focus, whereas in all previous Civs the unit was promoted. Civ 6 was the best because of its complex promotion tree, with at each stage, each unit having at least two options. This meant, for example, that you could have two pikemen adjacent to each other, the one promoted against militia and the other against horses. Also, if you've ever played Diplomacy, you'd know that the Russians always have to be prepared to fight on two fronts. Do they get two army commanders where all other Civs get just 1? It is no good having their second era commander also an army commander as the Russians have had two fleets since the beginning of the 19th Century - Northern Europe and Black Sea (with a much smaller focus on the far east). How does the UK colonize Africa and the Indian subcontinent at the same time - where are its army and fleet commanders? How would Rome have fought its civil wars if there was only one commander? Incidentally, there are far more than three domains of combat. In a physical sense, space is already a fourth domain, and I am increasingly of the view that drone warfare is different from air war (as in the difference between what's going on in the Ukraine right now - drone war - and in Israel/Iran - air war), while information war, financial/economic war and espionage war are key non-tactile domains - arguably the UK won WW2 thanks to its espionage warfare, which opened the books re the management of German armies, logistics and battles, and they won the information war in WW1 similarly with all their stories demonizing the "Bosch," turning it, essentially, into a race and culture war. Oh, and that's another thing - Civ has always ignored logistics/supply. Not good. In reality, supply is everything - and in modern warfare it is a complex chain involving production, transportation, fuel etc. The strategic games I used to play (mainly WW2) factored in far more of these aspects than Civ has ever managed, which is why, for me, Civ has always been mainly "build an empire to last the test of time" rather than "to fight its way to the end of time." It is about development.
It's sad that with these new concepts, starting from V, we lost the grandiose setup we had. Before, it really felt like we lead a nation on a planet. Now, it feels like we are leading a part of a nation, on a terrain of the size of Belgium or Singapore, at best.

@haukionkannel That's what I assumed from playing the different versions over 25 years or more. It's actually better that it is scripted with random chance (like a dice roll) determining which option will be used to react to which situation. The problem however has always been that the programmed options aren't realistic in terms of choices made - which actually shouldn't be THAT difficult to improve. None of the developers ever seem to want to improve this though, it seems, as most of the effort is always focused on superficial graphic improvements. Compare computer (let's call it artificial intelligence) decision making in Civ with any version of Panzer General & anybody can see no real progress has been made. Panzer General still has better computer decision making. The way it is now players can 'learn' the system & memorize & calculate to 'win' & it's not realistic enough with enough possible variation. For people who really understand military stuff it is annoying.

Research tree hasn't been expanded on since ever. Units having different animations, and looks, etc.. literally nobody cares. That's such a minor detail that in a game like this doesn't matter, yet there goes a ton of wasted development money, and time to make those extra versions for zero gain that could of gone towards things to actually expand upon the game in ways it hasn't in 30 years.

Of course there has to be a fairly large number of realistic reactions so it's hard for the human to know what might occur.
The way it is now players can 'learn' the system & memorize & calculate to 'win' & it's not realistic enough with enough possible variation. For people who really understand military stuff it is annoying.
All this will make the AI even worse at the game so what's the point?
Ding ding ding
Something I just noticed was the different skins on the tanks! I’m assuming that the skin will depend on what ideology you go with:
Sherman - Democracy
Panzer IV - Fascism
T-34 - Communism
I really hope that will be the case, because that would be aaaawesome!
No ideology in civ games so no!
Units are civ based. So Germany Panzer 4, USA Cherman and so on.
Remove the humankind mechanic and you will have many more people interested. That mechanic alone is a big NO NO, for players.
Hope somebody creates SMALL UNITS mod Hhahaha
.
Women with swords? don't tell me it's going to be an ahistorical civ.
I still can’t get over the age and changing culture shit. Gonna be a pass for me. First time since civ 3
The game kinda looks terrible. The AI is going to be terrible at combat and it's going to make warfare once again stupid and terrible.
lmao
mechanically the combat is still the same boring shit tho
Idk.. one step forward, 3 steps back imo.
A lot of nice changes, but a lot of arcadey unbalanced stupid stuff too... like reinforcements reinforcing with ease and quickly, and other stupid nonsense. I'm sure a lot of simple minded folk will love it, but that's just more strategy out of the window, to make room for low IQ simple mobile game, and its looking and feeling more and more like a mobile game the more I see.
Insultingly bad AI, don't bother.
Darn, the UI of Civ 7 is just old, ugly, and outdated. The game itself looks good enough but the UI elements are so ugly? I really hope they'll make it moddable or fix it up good.
Don't think modding will be good in this game. They haven't release the dll for civ 6 despite doing it for their predecessors.
So, precisely nothing new.
Wow I can’t listen to this, good god, by the time I’d heard “civ siven, the hidline” I thought I’m out, I just can’t listen to kiwis butchering vowels it breaks my ears
Well that's just rude.
@ and true, I heard one once talking about Queen Elizabeth the sicond, the only thing she’d have been sickened by is the way New Zealanders speak
@@John-id6ih Doesn't make it true. It's still your opinion, and a rude thing to say to a person. Even in the web, we should keep our etiquettes.
@ oh it’s true alright
Bet ya he says ‘vawels’ not ‘vowels’
