Thank You, This is by far the most thorough video on spring replacement on RUclips I have found. I have a small 2000lb single axle trailer I have had for over 20 years that I am restoring (disassembling repainting, new springs and bearing), I notice that I had 2 nylon bushing I think went into the leaf springs and 1 steel bushing that I think attaches to the trailer frame side of the shackle straps. Does this sound correct? Do you coat the bushing with grease, and if so what type of grease do you use? I have a tub of Moble 1 red grease, will this work? Thanks great video

Can you change the springs from 3000lb 5leaf to 3500lb 6leaf on a 5200k tandem axle RV?
You said jack the whole trailer up. Or are you talking about just the side your fixing

Good point on bolt direction. With aircraft, the rule is the bolt is installed pointing aft or outboard. That so if the nut is lost, gravity or centrifugal force helps keep the bolt in place.
In certain applications and modifications we would use that same science as used in aircraft. Good point! Thanks for watching!
Awesome video and thank you for posting!! I've never changed a broken leaf spring on our Travel Trailer, however I have two brand news ones that I take along as spares. I even take an extra set of bolts, shackles and a spare equalizer. I'd hate to be broken down some place in the middle of nowhere and have a broken leaf spring. If you didn't have a spare or didn't have the tools to fix it, you'd be screwed. Good tips in your video, too. From looking at your video, I wonder now if some times they break, because they over tightened the shackle bolts from the factory and there's no "give" on the leaf spring when the tire hits bumps. Anyway, an awesome video!!
Thanks for watching! Sounds like you know the value of being prepared. I usually don’t see the bolts break from being over tightened, but it does cause excessive wear on the suspension and sometimes causes the suspension to get stuck instead of articulating.
@@TheTrailerSmith Again, an awesome video!! Keep them coming. One thing I did in the past week was check the torque on the U-bolts holding the axle. Well, on each axle, I had at least one nut that wasn't torqued down properly. A lot of people don't check these. Think about the pounding the axle is taking. Good idea to check these at least once a year. I have a 5 year old TT and never checked them. We are getting ready for a cross country trip next month. I'm glad I checked these.
Thank you for the videos, very educational. I have a 41' 5th wheel that the previous owner put 14 ply tires on. I like that idea, but am concerned about the suspension needing to be upgraded. How would I go about figuring out what is on the trailer now (don't know if they've ever been changed) and what I should go to? Thanks again.
So on a boat trailer, medium size, I replaced the leaf springs and shackle straps and bushings all the way around and at the last one I cannot get the shackle to level with the leaf spring without it being crooked?? Idk, but it is the same size spring as the other side across from it that fit do you have any ideas?

Do equalizer bolts need to be semi tight for travel?
There does need to be enough slack in the bolts for the equalizer and other suspension parts to be able to move.
We use a cheap Chinese ball joint removal clamp to get those splined shackle bolts out 😳
