Dont know if you remember me asking you if you remember the amps with jade plates.. Anyhow i remember the name. Commander.. Supreme commander.. Around 1992 to 95
I was at Five Star Car Stereo last week... That is where I go get all my new car Audio. They have top notch service and great prices on everything related to car audio.
Having heard a proper Bang & Olufsen system from the UK, this is a mighty fall from grace. Even on my chintzy laptop speakers, that midrange was trying to slice my ear off. Then again, B&O seems to be willing to license their name to just about anyone nowadays.
Right another great Audio brand name pimped out to whoever will pay. Sad. I was out of touch with the audio scene for a while and when I got back into it got duped by the “new” MB Quart. Garbage
B&O, like many "audiophile" brands, design stuff that looks expensive but is sonically very ordinary. It's just Bose with more zeroes added to the price tag. The purpose is simply to show off how much money you have to burn. These are the same types of people who spend $5000 on a pair of foot-long RCA interconnects with 10 layers of nylon braiding. The defense is always along the lines of "if you can't afford this then you don't know what you're missing". Snake oil, that's what we're missing. If you want "concert quality sound", buy a bunch of cheap woofers and horn-loaded tweeters as used in PA speakers, pair them with basic amplifiers, then pour your heart and soul into DSP correction to bring everything up to snuff. There is no mythical engineering in concert speakers, there are just lots of them and a big processor to bring it all together.
Excellent choice with the 5.0 Coyote engine. You will get many years of service out of it, versus the EcoBoost. Keep up the great videos and thanks for keeping Old School Car Audio alive !!
Actually the 2018+ are having bad oil consumption issues. My eco has been flawless and my brother has 180k on his with no issues. The 11-17 5.0s were good motors though.
I would have never thought Ford would put something as nice as Bang & Olufsen in their trucks. B&O is very high end audio. Especially for a stock stereo.
I remember going to Sound Advice in Orlando FL in 1988, they had multiple rooms set up per manufacturer decked out with home audio, one room they had Bang and Olufsen set up that was absolutely amazing, my friends and I always talked about how that would be our supreme home setup when we got older and could afford it lol I ended up with a full on Harman Kardon system 😎
My buddys 2017 Tundra premium system sounds great. We added a 10in Pioneer sub under the left rear seat, but the stock system has very good bottom end on its own, even with the vol all the way up. Very listenable. Adding the 10(vented 30hz) blends perfectly. Mags
I rented a 2018 f150 platinum and fell absolutely in love with it!!! I can’t afford 1 but best believe I would!!!! Congrats bro it’s a beautiful truck! I was pretty impressed for a stock sound system but probably would upgrade it. You should ask Steve Meade for permission to play Psyph Morrison. Not sure if that’s how it works but I bet he would.
$6700?!?! I had to go get a drink just to spit it out!!! I trust that you’ll throw that factory amp on the dyno just for kicks. This just solidifies the notion that factory systems leave plenty of room for improvement.
I've been watching Dean and Fernando for a little bit now and it's amazing how many people dump their factory premium system for completely mid-level, or sometimes entry level, aftermarket stuff. It makes me think that not many of the factory premium stuff is much good.
The Infinity system that was in my 94 Grand Cherokee sounded great, all it needed was a couple Punch 12 XLCs with a Punch 250 for low end and I was happy with it for years.
I'm a big-time truck lover. Your truck's a beauty bro!! 😍👌 Honestly, from my home stereo it didn't sound all that bad. That's totally different though when you actually hear it in the cab. I've always said there isn't a factory sound system that can come close to an aftermarket one. At least you have good bones to start with. Great video BigD!! 👌
Congrats on the new truck. Really hoping for a audio build series. Please. - I installed car audio for a while. It's amazing how much they can charge for a "premium" sound system, and they almost always sound like garbage. I found GM and their bose systems were usually some of the worst.
Love the new truck BigD. For real! She's a beauty. I'm going to have to look up that motor, and see what it does. But I bet that thing gets up, and goes. Hope you have good luck with it sir. ✌️
All factory stereos, even premium, are eq’d now and have a preset to reduce the bass when it’s turned above 50%. You can’t even use a basic LOC anymore. Need an Alpine processor or JL Twk &Fixit or Audiocontrol just to get a full range flat signal that can be eq’d. Oh, and the designer usually picks out just one bass frequency usually around 50 Hz, and boosts only that frequency to make an average listener think it has good bass.
If I remember correctly the B/O system is just a licensing agreement. I did a system in one not too long ago and the speakers were just made in Mexico or China ford speakers. They even said FoMoCo on the magnets. I used a Audiocontrol Dm-810 and a Alpine PDX-V9 . The factory speaker baskets were plastic and just crap really. Used alpine X type components in the front and coaxial in the back. And 2 JL tw3 10" subs under the back seat. No center channel unplugged it. The guy was so disappointed with the factory system but when he heard the upgraded system. He actually wrote a email to Ford customer service complaining about how bad it actually sounded. He was actually mad at how much the "package" cost him.
This was a pretty cool look at what is available and how good or not so good they can be. it would be cool to see more demos of new cars audio systems. Great Work!!
I added a Skar Audio RP 2000 watt amp and (2) Evil 12's in factory Sub box you can hear me about 300 yard's away Thank You for Everything you do Brother
Best stock stereo system to date was a Mach 1000 in a 2003 ford mustang. Rack in trunk with 4 amps and 2-10in dual voice coil subs. It would bounce quarters off the trunk lid. Second, Harman kardan upgraded stereo 875Watt in my jeep. The B+O is garbage.
Love the truck man. Package prices these days are shameless. My 2013 SHO has the Sony system in it, and can live with it. Better than the old factory systems but not really worth the price. For about $3500 worth of aftermarket equipment in my old f150, and it sounds so much better than my sho. But since when have the car manufacturers done better than the aftermarket . Still a beautiful truck you got
So here's food for thought. I just picked up a 2003 Honda Element to use as a work vehicle. The stereo is made, to my understanding, by Alpine. I'm not sure about power output. But it's a CD with 7 speakers including a subwoofer. To say that this Element is 17 years ago, this system sounds like it hasn't even fully broken in. The sub sweeps down do about 40hz. It actually sounds very good, and surprised the hell out of me. To get an idea, it sounds better than the Dynaudio 9 speaker system in my Volvo XC90.
I agree,I have the Alpine in my Ram,it sounds good up too a certain volumes and song choice.i have rattles in my door sub is decent..looking too upgrade soon
I purchased a 2020 Lariat with the B&O system and I agree - it's not that good. Just don't feel like spending a bunch (or any) of money to fix the problems.
Gonna have to do another sound test after you install the new speakers in the doors to see the change derek. It was a good test tho of that factory system. Thanks for sharing
I would really like to see you dyno that B&O amp!! I have a 2018 Raptor with this exact system and want to see if just replacing the speakers and keeping the stock amp would work to add better mids and highs to my aftermarket subwoofer.
I just got the same truck, V8 5.0. I will be installing amp racks and possibly 2 fosgate p3-10s. I found a way to fit them under the back seat, and not the slim one either.
Just added 2 JL 12s and VX1000/5i with C3 components in all 4 doors to a Shelby F150 with the Bang and Olufsen factory system yesterday. JL rep came by for product training and tuning. We dampened all 4 doors as well.
Have you done a system upgrade to your 2019 f150? if so what have you done? I recently purchased a 2020 f150 platinum and would like some advice on a speaker upgrade. Thanks
The reality of most car systems is that they are built to protect the crappy door speakers. The bass/ midbass are cut way down to prevent rattling or bottoming out. The amps are undersized and poorly designed. Open that sub amp and you will see a component layout like no normal amplifier. Total replacement downstream of the head unit is the only option for most of us.
When I bought my Taurus the salesman was like the stereo is so good in that car and I just nodded and smiled, bought the car and ripped it out the first weekend I owned it. It’s all in a box waiting to be reinstalled when I sell it. If I hadn’t bought the car used I’d have never paid for the upgrade. I have a feeling you will do the same. My car looks totally stock though except for the trunk and amp rack, but stock headunit and components in stock locations with some audio control LOC magic it sounds way better.
I'm obviously not an "Audiophile" I think it sounds pretty decent. I mean, when I'm in my truck, I'm going camping or taking motorcycles out to the desert so.... I don't need a super city slicker stereo. This one is fantastic in my opinion. You know what they say about opinions right?
I put a JL audio stealth box under the backseat 2...12s and c3 and a hd900/5 and the thing hits hard in the same truck.. Get that set up and do a review on it.. you will love it...
Bang & Olufsen had some really cool products back in the 90s. They had speakers that look like pencils. He also had a CD changer that the mechanism moved across the discs. They also had a CD player that when you move your hand in front of the clear plastic doors would open.
In my raptor I've adjusted all 3. treb at max mid 1from max and bass 2 from max with surround sound on it sounds way good maybe there's better dampening in raptors idk my expectation are never stock audio to compete with after market and that applies no matter what you buy
My Mp3 files plays great in my RAM 2500 with the Harman Kardon system..if I was to upgrade it would only be A New SUB in the future. I actually thought I was playing SiriusXM radio..uh uh it was MP3 Files . I only counted 9 speakers plus Subwoofer. So I don't see where the 19 count is coming from. Anyway it sounds awesome 👌
Wife and test xrove a ton of vehicles in past few months. All the systems seem to be muddy sounding in the mids. None of the factory units were very good. Wish they would go back to the old radios that could be changed out
Man, that kinda puts a damper on a sharp new 4x4 truck. For the nearly $7,000 package...man those rattles and low quality are ridiculous. The stock Bose set up in my 2014 Chevy Silverado is really good. This was the year they started making the Silverado cabins ultra-quiet (like creepy quiet for a truck). Never once after 5+ years of owning it did I consider any type of upgrade to the Bose. And I like crazy deep bass too...but, don't need 130 dB of it.
I went to some training in Denmark and they don't think highly of B/O. I visited a technicians house and he had a room full of Canadian Paradigm speakers...not B and O.
My old Taurus had the Mach 460. It wasn’t terrible. I did add a alpine type r and some kicker coax in the doors and deck lid. I couldn’t swap the radio cheaply since it was attached to the climate control. Also amp and tuner combo lol.
Big D... that B&O system is good up to the preamp section. That sub , amp and speakers are some off the shelf crap. I bet the DSP is B&O as well. These car manufacturers get the high end names, Mark Levinson, Krell, Infinity, etc. Some of the system may be by those names but you know the speakers are garbage, the amp is just enough to get by. Get the crap system and build your own. Probably cheaper too...
The B&O sounds a lot better in the Platinum they add more sound deadening. The windshield is actually different in the platinum to lessen wind / road noise.
I have the exact same truck and think the audio is nice enough. Just need to upgrade the sub. Did you try turning the mid, treble, bass up in the settings? It helps a lot
I got a dodge with 9 speaker alpine system and it’s about the same. It’s bass heavy no matter how you set it. But friend and family that ride in it be very impressed with it lol
Nice video. Unfortunately even “premium” audio systems are usually barely adequate at best. I feel like the best route is to get the base sound system and upgrade. Although it’s a punch in the gut bc these damn trucks are so expensive and with the technology it’s not as simple as installing a “plug and play” system. I just bought a new ram 1500 and I’m in about 3k for the sound system... it’s killer but a shame that a 40k truck doesn’t have a better sounding stock setup. Keep up the great work!
Williston Audio Labs haha ahh ok. We going to play the top secret. Keep the internet stalkers away type answers. Lol. No worries. I definitely can understand that
You should just sound denting the doors and any other areas with speakers, use those foam rings to direct sound and add a new box for the factory subwoofer. This would make a good interesting video that no one has done yet. Nice truck!
I restored my 2006 Acura TL stock 8 speaker because I was told to awesome in stock form. Sounded terrible to me. Now All RF up front and Hertz in the rear so much clearer.
Well let's see. I like good sounding audio too. Home or vehicle. Is this B&O system here exceptional? No. But, I have owned a 2017 F-250 XLT with the "regular" (non-B&O) audio system and a 2019 F-250 XLT Premium trim level with the "regular" (non-B&O) audio system. Two weeks ago I traded in my 2019 F-250 XLT Premium trim level truck for a 2020 F-350 Lariat w/ the B&O sound system. My thoughts? Far, far better than the 'stock', "regular" (non-B&O) audio system in the XLT and down trim level Ford trucks. Exception sound? No. But a far cry from the blah sound of the "regular" XLT and down audio systems in those trucks. I can live with this in my 2020 F-350 Lariat. BTW, no rattles from the audio system that I have noticed yet. Every truck has their own little, individual annoyances however that rattle from the right door speaker would keep me up nights. That has to be rectified. But for my particular 2020 truck and this audio system, I'm okay with it.
That is still heaps better sounding than the mid level audio system in my 13 F150. I work for Ford and I haven't been impressed with their audio systems ever. My parents drove GM vehicles for years and our 92 Chevy Cavalier we had when I was a kid would blur your vision when sitting in the back seat. The speakers were just 2 way 6x9's with big ass magnets hanging off the back. Delco was heaps better than what ford had to offer back then. Not sure about now, but I test them out with each Pre Delivery Inspection I do and they just sound like crap to me. Ford definitely needs help in that department.

Yep, Ford Goteeem!
Congrats on the truck. Go see Dean and Fernando asap.
Awesome to see Dean from Five Star Car Stereo in one of your vids!
Dean and Fernando were gracious to help out
Yeah I don't think B&O was necessarily an audiophile company, rather their systems are more "art" than sound.
Great point 👍

Ahhh yes, love the Rockford systems in the Nissan Sentra. suprisingly after 17 yrs it still sounded nice.
You know what would be awesome if you take that amp out that truck and put it on the amp dyno
Great video and great cameo from 5star
Thanks for watching and commenting!
Always go with the basic package for audio. Use the money for an actual system. I had to do that with my recent car purchase. Good looking truck
Exactly!
i wouldnt mind seeing some old school upgrades in the truck. congrats bro
Sweet ride. Congrats on the new Ford. 👍👍

Something had to break the window something had to hit the stereo. And why is the carpet all wet Todd ? I DON'T KNOW MARGO
Love it!!
Yeah that's what I was thinking when the clip rolled I DON'T KNOW MARGO
So when can we expect a build vlog on taking out and replacing the overhyped b&o system
What else was included with the b&o upgrade. I'm pretty sure it was not just a 6000 upgrade for the stereo.
You can search for 502A package..it has a lot of other stuff as well
hell yeah Dean and Fernando!

My truck is a 2019 ram limited with the Harman Cardin sound system 17 speakers sounds amazing
Superb video young man. Featuring Dean & Fernando didn't hurt either.

I don’t mind these systems. They sound better than the majority of the other “premium” systems out there.

The only Bang would be as hits the side of the trash can. Great opportunity for an old school system upgrade... I vote for A/d/s

I’m wondering if you can get the “better” head unit and save on the speakers if you’re gonna swap out the amp and speakers anyway?
I can't wait for the upgrade videos
I would really like to see you dyno that B&O amp!! I have a 2018 Raptor with this exact system and want to see if just replacing the speakers and keeping the stock amp would work to add better mids and highs to my aftermarket subwoofer.
I just got the same truck, V8 5.0. I will be installing amp racks and possibly 2 fosgate p3-10s. I found a way to fit them under the back seat, and not the slim one either.
Sweet! I have some ideas
@@wal Let me know your ideas, I am always open to other people's thoughts. I installed professionally from 1989- 2002. Things are different now.
Thanks
Focal Flax is my go-to. Excellent speakers.
The bang and Olufsen stereo on my dads 2013 Audi A4 s line was great. The imaging was superb and it got nice and loud with no distortion.
Cool video! I always skip factory upgraded audio. Nice cameo by Dean and Fernando.
Thanks for watching and commenting!
Love the vids big D🔥
Thanks for watching and commenting!
Why didn’t you adjust the base up? Your tweeter and mid is up but the bass is way down. I set all three on my Lariat up to about 3/4’s
I remember seeing some of those at my local HiFi shop
@@wal Their stuff was kind of unique and different but I always thought it was way overpriced!!
In my raptor I've adjusted all 3. treb at max mid 1from max and bass 2 from max with surround sound on it sounds way good maybe there's better dampening in raptors idk my expectation are never stock audio to compete with after market and that applies no matter what you buy
MP3 files for sound test af the system performance ? Not a real good way to test it.
Point taken ✌️
My Mp3 files plays great in my RAM 2500 with the Harman Kardon system..if I was to upgrade it would only be A New SUB in the future. I actually thought I was playing SiriusXM radio..uh uh it was MP3 Files . I only counted 9 speakers plus Subwoofer. So I don't see where the 19 count is coming from.
Anyway it sounds awesome 👌
You should try a real Bang & Olufsen system out of a 2013 6-series or 7-series BMW. The quality is night and day from the F-150 system.
They are probably using some type of active white noise, been a few cars with that and it's like cript quite in them
I went to some training in Denmark and they don't think highly of B/O. I visited a technicians house and he had a room full of Canadian Paradigm speakers...not B and O.
Congrats, nice pickup!
Thanks brother
Wonder if it's got preamp outs on back. If not you gonna go line out converter ?
Great video!
By the looks of this, you will Not be staying with your Factory audio set-up. What are you planning to replace it with??
Check out Steve Mead's series on the F 350 truck system he just did.
I’ve been watching those. He’s doing it right!
Were you using Bluetooth? It has notoriously bad SQ
He's playing off a USB drive
USB drive. The BT was for the SPL test
I have the exact same truck and think the audio is nice enough. Just need to upgrade the sub.
Did you try turning the mid, treble, bass up in the settings? It helps a lot
I'm tempted to do a comparison video with my Subaru's Harman Kardon 440W/"9 speaker" system.
I got a dodge with 9 speaker alpine system and it’s about the same. It’s bass heavy no matter how you set it. But friend and family that ride in it be very impressed with it lol
Bass makes them smile...rattling panels makes BigD 🤬
So true!!
I just picked up a brand new 2020 raptor with the B&O system and it sucks! I think something maybe wrong with mine. Hardly no bass at all.
That’s just how they are, add a Rockford fosgate p3 and it’ll be perfect, my expedition is the same way with it just not having any bass
@ubeuonly 1 sounds like a 10 speed F-150 hurt your feelings🤣
Beautiful truck Big D!
Thanks brother
So how does it sound with the bass/treble controls set to zero?
So what do you actually do for a living for work ? I feel like your some kinda tech admin or something?
I troll the Internet for a living 😜
Williston Audio Labs haha ahh ok. We going to play the top secret. Keep the internet stalkers away type answers. Lol. No worries. I definitely can understand that
You should just sound denting the doors and any other areas with speakers, use those foam rings to direct sound and add a new box for the factory subwoofer. This would make a good interesting video that no one has done yet. Nice truck!
That would be interesting...I’m betting sound deadening and foam rings alone would help dramatically
Thanks for the detailed review I have been wondering about the bno systems, they put them in mercedes too kinda wanted to see if they were any good.
Should do more reviews on factory upgrade audio systems
Big D whats that mount you are using to record this video? I saw it on the reflection when you was stepping in the truck. Please let me know
Those speakers are designed to listen to Bach with “grey poupon “
Yeah and 40’s
