such an entertaining drummer to watch, quickly has become one of my favorites. not only is his groove/feel phenomenal, but i love his technique and touch on the drums. you can tell he's taking every single stroke into consideration while he's playing; i hope to have "feel" like him one day.
This is what is call intense.. He is playing really difficult stuff with no effort that's the story behind this video... He has a long story behind his drum kit very few people know that... I've never seen control & dynamics such drummer... Richard Spaven your inspiration of new generation... Massive amount of respect for you 🙏🙏🙏
No lo había escuchado demasiado a Richard. Pero he quedado alucinado. Que perfección, que delicadeza y que fineza para tocar! Otro distinto de este maravilloso arte de la batería!
+Keith Greene I have that Ride, it is FIRE! No, seriously: it's relatively quiet, but for this type of music, for anything RnB, Gospel, Blues and especially Jazz related, it is the killer. The bow is a bit too undefined for metal (bell is surprisingly clear and loud!), but for everything else, it's perfect.
Keith Greene I would let you play on it if you lived nearby, but I assume southern Germany might be a bit far for you? I can only give you the advice to sell 2 or three toms, and eat pure bread and water for a month and order yourself one of these marvellous babies! Tell me if you want some sound examples (besides the memphis-drumshop vids online).
And if I saw this guy on the street in that get up, I would never imagine he could groove so hard or that he even could play drums period. But he's so amazingly musical. Bravo!
excelente!! me encanto el estilo de este tipo, nada de esa cosa de tiempos irregulares o chops fuera de contexto, mantiene la musica ahi en el bolsillo como suelen decir.. todo mi respeto don richard
I think it's tuned really high on both sides, and then dampened to cut out overtones. You can make your snare sound super dull and dead if you don't do it properly, Spaven does really well to make it sound great though
It's Yamaha Maple Custom. Richard Spaven normaly plays Absolute Maple Hybrid: 18 "x14" bd, 10"x7" and 14"X13" toms and a 14"x6" Snare. You can see this setup in more recent videos published by Meinl. But on this video Richard Spaven is playing an older Maple Custom.
He's veeeery good ... veeeeeery good ... but i think he's the saddest drummer out there :( little sad teddy bear :( ... Chris Coleman being the happiest :D
Very nice! Thumbs up! Question: How did you record this? I can see mics on the bass drum, the snare, the hihat and over the floor on your right. Not on the small tom, no overheads, room mics?
+Anthony Aspetos What you saw: the kick mics (2, one probably capturing a bit of the kit in a whole also, esp. the high tom), snare mic, hi hat mic (which serves for the extra dry crash as well) and the one you overlooked: another cymbal mike to his right, micing the right crash and the ride (which is slightly too silent in the mix for my taste) - and the floor tom.
Good stickins ...not enough drumset---love. Here again catering to the human voice little songs tellin me what to think... We have to remember what BILLY HIGGINS SAID. YOU DON'T PLAY THE DRUMS ...RATHER YOU MAKE LOVE TO THEM....NICE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD GROOVE THO HE LOOKS BORED ...
Not hating on dude, never heard of him, seen a few videos in a row to see if i feel any inspiration and to give him a fair chance, about as inspiring as eating a plain rice cake
Im so lucky to have this guy as my drum teacher :D

I agree! He is my favorite drummer... he is a real inspiration, and his style is very different than some drummers like Thomas Lang, Matt Garska,...
3 years later and I still get goosebumps every time I hear it. Now that's what I call quality.
May the groove always be with you 🙏🏼

Oppa💖 awwwww

Anybody know what size snare and tuning on it? Looks 14x5.5, I imagine tuned high on both sides with muffling
Genial!
That is the perfect blend of symbols
Can someone link lyrics please
How does he tune his snare drum?
thalidomide1 Probably with a drum key.
Rory O'Neill no fucking way?!?
thalidomide1 Even though you might not believe it. It is true, I can confirm this.
thalidomide1 Way

madness
God's gift
What genre would this masterpiece fall into?
definitely impressed!
Does anyone know if that's a 18" or 20" bass drum?
Que medidas usa en su shellpack?
any clue what snare he's using?
whats the album name?
The album is self called SideIISide :)
And I think the song is on the "Whole Others" album !
mmmmmm tastiness.
How did he get his snare to sound like that
I think it's tuned really high on both sides, and then dampened to cut out overtones. You can make your snare sound super dull and dead if you don't do it properly, Spaven does really well to make it sound great though
playing rimshots slightly below the center of the drum should help in achieving that sound too
Anyone know which kit this is?
Yamaha Maple Custom.
+Mcwangwang Yamaha Absolute Maple Hybrid Drums
