I remember in one of my islamic theology lessons, one guy said that Abu Talib will be receiving the lowest punishments of hell. But the guy leading the lesson said we cannot say such things. Infact no Muslim can declare such things. Only Allah knows. Btw I have two of your books (both named Rashid). I liked it.

They usually have not read the verses/context themselves. This is one of their default defences (along with - you don't know Arabic, you're not a scholar, you're not a Muslim, you haven't read the tafsirs, hadiths, etc etc etc...).

Hassan Radwan is the voice of reason, I love his speaking voice with its relaxed and clear diction, but I particularly love the way he can talk about different subjects in such a calm and lucid way with none of the heat and hyperbole that is often used in place of logic and reason - the antithesis of Ali Dawah/Mohamad Hijab! The word means arrogance and according to Islam this is a satanic virtue and Islam is against arrogance.
I find it funny that a lot of Muslims are arrogant purely based off the fact that they happen to be Muslims (not by choice mind you, but by child indoctrination). Either way, point out the hypocrisy by asking some questions and then point out that this is the essence of arrogance and how Islam forbids them from being arrogant. This was like, the 3rd or 4th sura I had to memorize as a child. I had arabic and an English transliteration but no translation, no explanation. In hindsight it feels quite sinister given the teachers at the mosque knew what they were asking us to memorize.

Unfortunately, for some circles of Christians, when confronted with the question of Hell, actually said that those in Heaven would relish at the thought of those in their mortal lives who are punished in Hell. Apparently, two of the main Abrahamic traditions think relishing the suffering of the disbelievers is acceptable...

To be fair though, I wonder how much of my instinctive contempt for the attitude expressed in the verse comes down to post-christian cultural bias/being brought up within the turn-the-other-cheek moral paradigm. Not to go full Tom Holland, but I feel like so many of us in "the West" (or in the postcolonial modern world more broadly) end up taking nonobvious ideas like vindictiveness being a vice completely for granted. The Quran does seem to have traces of it (....وَالْكَاظِمِينَ الْغَيْظَ), but it also appears much more rooted in an Old Testament-style "virtue of hate" cultural perspective (hence the comparative prevalence of notions such as البغض في الله and the practice of du3aa' upon the kuffar). Another example would be the cultural disconnect between the West and MENA on notions of jealousy. While I certainly don't care for relativism-based religious apologetics, I do think it's important to take into account the huge cultural gap between ourselves and the ancient/medieval author of the text, as well as various cultural perspectives of today when arguing with believers.

The sad fact is there are Christian's who believe in eternal fire burning unbelievers FOREVER and ever. What kind of God would derive any joy in such torture. In God's mercy he shall burn them completely up and "the smoke of them shall ascend forever."
Are those of us in Paradise supposed to watch this vision of Hell for all eternity? Watching your loved ones being burned over and over again. Surely for anyone deemed worthy, to enter Paradise this would just be another form Hell?

I understand there are all kinds of reasons why a person claims a religion, and that a group is not a monolith. I can empathise with what you are feeling. In fact your comment reminded me of myself back in the day, how some things hit me like a bolt of lightning triggering a new perspective which at my age at the time (almost 50) turned my world upside down. You suddenly see things you hadn't seen before. It can trigger fear and panic and I really feel for you.. But don't worry, things will settle down and you will review your thoughts in a calmer manner. Whatever route you choose - whether you remain Muslim or not, I wish you the best :)

@@HassanRadwan133 today is Friday, and everyone is getting ready for Jumm'ah and here my heart is torn in between. I am seeing a therapist now, and I don't think I'll ever recover from this trauma. I can't even sleep or eat and I really don't know what would become of me. What's the point of life, if everything is just science?
@@DarkMatter1919 I won't reveal where I am from, but it's in Asia, and is located near Pakistan. There are exmuslim communities, but I am not at that stage where I can find people and talk to them. My therapist thinks that things have happened and it's causing me depression and anxiety. I don't know.
The other middle-eastern religion (Christianity) has the same sick idea, of God and those in heaven watching people get tortured forever (Revelation 14:10).

It's just astounding how the purely brutal and material aspects of human religions took over Islam, to the detriment of its spiritual features! Like ALL human religions, Islam has its exoteric side as well as its esoteric facet (particularly evident in Sufism). It's a tragedy for mankind, and first of all for Muslims themselves, that Islam focuses almost exclusively on the apparent meaning of words while avoiding figurative interpretations, as teachings are generally interpreted to be universal laws rather than as specific teachings for the circumstances at the time of Muhammad. This mindset is so ingrained in Muslims that most of them appear to really believe, as per some commentaries here, that our Friendly Exmuslim could have any doubts about that! I mean, as if an atheist, or any rational human being, for that matter, could possibly be afraid of such an absurdity, such an aberration, such a monstrosity, as this stupid and unbelievingly cruel eternal hell conceived, created and sustained by the Supreme Being himself! Alas, it seems that the lesson of this video is completely lost on those whose indoctrinated beliefs put them away from both Love and Reason!
I don't blame Muslims. Islam gives them very limited scope for esoteric interpretations. Sure there are many aspects that can be seen in a figurative way. But notions such as eternal Hell - as graphically described in the Qur'an - is very difficult to spin as a metaphor for something benign. Unfortunately Islam came at a time when Christian Church fathers had evolved the notion of Hell from the rather vague biblical references into very detailed visions of Hell as found in various apocrypha such as the Apocalypse of Peter. The Qur'an took this image of Hell and put it into the mouth of God. So what do you expect Muslims to think? As I say, I can't blame them for taking it literally.

Nevertheless, we should expect Muslims to think, to understand and to accept that the Qur'an is man-made, like ALL humanity so-called Sacred Books! In the light of Reason and Faith, we should say that not everything that is contained in the Qur'an comes from the 'mouth of God', if we understand God as the final cause of all motion in Nature, as Prime Mover and Unmoved Mover of the universe, as well as a truly Good Being, Compassionate and Most Merciful! Is that an 'islamophobic' statement ? I know it's easier said than done, that is, to make Muslims understand that not all Qur'an verses are God inspired, considering fourteen centuries of teaching to accept a set of beliefs uncritically (it goes without saying that this applies also to the Bible). It's not an easy task but, we should help and expect Muslims (Christians, Hindus, Jews...) understand that UNSHAKABLE FAITH IS ONLY THE KIND THAT CAN STAND FACE TO. This is just as applicable to orthodox Christians. The heathen, demonic, myth of eternal hell fire torture has billions of religious people living in fear. God created evil (Isaiah 45:7) for a very good reason... CONTRAST! This contrast shows up the evil hearts within mankind and instead of rejecting evil they personifie it by making up myths to control. The masses.
There is no eternal torture, it is blasphemy to teach and say so. GOD is love.

Since Jesus is the final interpreter of the Torah and prophets, it is he (and the Church he granted the authority to bind and unbind) who gets to tell us what Isaiah means (God alone is the driving force of history, as the people of that time understood evil people to be used as instruments of God to punish, that does NOT mean God "created" evil, for remember Satan chose on his own free will alone to rebel without anyone whispering in his ear like he did to Adam and Eve).

I think it is important to mention that ISIS would not have been formed had the US not invaded Iraq a second time after the 9/11 incident.
