    this was by far the most helpful of the home spun videos I've seen. Thank you. All the other videos I looked at were more talking and less showing the actual work. Ten minutes in and they hadn't even touched a part. Then others skipped the entire process of removing the oil pan which is the single most important part of the job. Thank you once again for making this video. Have a blessed one.

    Diagnosis on the oil pump not building enough pressure to meet the needs of the engine is correct. It would slowly get worse and then the engine would likely ruin from not enough oil supplied to cool it. Admire anyone who takes on this daunting Audi service at home. ....somebody needs a car hoist .

    • @thatlldogarage
      @thatlldogarage  2 года назад +1

      Hi Homero! I did not think to prime it but it would be wise to do so. I had about 5-7 seconds of timing chain rattle and then things settled down quickly. But I imagine you could disconnect the spark plug wires or remove power to the fuel pump and then crank it for 15-20 seconds. Good idea, thanks for watching!

    • @Bdelauder1987

      This is the problem I’m having. It knocks when it revs down. Not when it revs up. I started wondering if maybe my chain is loose and slapping? Also I noticed during initial startup, it doesn’t seem to do it for some reason. When they first run, they idle high for the first few minutes, it seems during this time it doesn’t make any noise.
      I didn’t know these stupid balance shafts needed to be timed either. I wish they had left these out of these cars.

    • @Bdelauder1987
      @Bdelauder1987 Год назад +1

      I will add, I’ve done a delete before. However, I did this with a seized up assembly. But it wasn’t worn out and eat away like this.
      I just disconnected the first gear from the shafts themselves. I cut out the next gear in line, which was the beginning of the first shaft. That disconnected the drive gear and allowed it to free spin. I left all the shafts and everything in it and i think it’s still running today.
      Looks like I’m about to get into this mess again

    • @CogwinderHDGaming
      @CogwinderHDGaming Год назад

      Thanks for the replies, I’ve replaced the engine now. I still have the old complete engine in the garden which I’m getting around to taking the balance shaft of to inspect the crank bearings as I suspect that’s what was giving me the knocking when the rpm drops down. I’ll probably break the engine down for parts now and claw some money back.

    ohhh, I think I might have the same issue. I bought a 2.0 TFSI like last week, drove it for 3 hours home, no issues. And yesterday on my way home from work the oilpressure lamp came on, I check the oil, was not very low, I checked the service manual and noticed it was due for a service, changed the oil and oil filter today and on my way home the same thing happened again except this time it started to make little ratteling noice just as I was in my driveway. yikes :/ hope its okai.

      @@My_E46_Fam ohh, sorry did not notice the alert. Well yes, too little oil came up to the camshafts. But it was undamaged, the turbo on the other hand needed to be replaced so I swapped it out for a new one, and the oil pump was fine too, but the oil pickup was clogged, and there was a ton of gunk/sludge in the oil pan so I clean up as well as I could, and put everything back together, drove it for a year and now I have low oil pressure again, happened right after a oil change so my guess is there was a lot of more sludge somewhere in the engine that came lose now, I did check the oil pressure with a gauge first to make sure it was just not a bad sensor, I hardly wanna do this job over again, but I guess I have to.
