As an older than you, big bearded dude as well, I'm impressed. Congrats. From my perspective, this was one of your best vids ever! It was nice to see Josh out there w you.
Robert I stumbled across this video and all I can say is Your awesome. I remember the year of Covid. Brian was starting his 50 state shred. I was all about it. I set a goal of climbing 4000 ft. at Rockville.. I found a loop that would take 4 complete laps starting from the parking lot. All I can say is why. Well for obvious reasons as you know there is nothing more satisfying than completing something that makes no sense to others but it makes perfect sense to yourself.... I haven't thought about it for a minute but your trial and tribulations reminded me about that day... Thank you for that... 😊
Man that was epic! like you I ride my legs to cramping!! I have found a few essential items I NEVER climb without. few small bags of salted peanuts, couple of banana's, couple of sachets of electrolyte powders to add to water (Tastes nasty but worth it). For me these things when the legs start twitching and you know cramping is on the way seem to get it to back off and buy you some much needed comfort. Oh! happy 45th
This is awesome, I love climbing now more than ever too, more of a complete experience than shuttling all the time. I need to ride more in that zone too!! Happy Birthday!
Happy Birthday. I love the way you tell stories. Keep it up, you inspire so many more people than you realize. I am 64 years young, 280 pounds, 8 years sober and riding is one of the very few things I can do regularly that I truly love. "Just one more hill"!!!
the gnats are thick as pea soup here in NJ...happy b day and climb on...i'm 60 and still grinding it out.. once you make friends with your pain, you will never be alone
Happy Birthday!! Fun! Hey for your 50th you should plan to ride up the trail instead of the road and then down! You've got 5 years to prepare:) I've been wanting to ride the same miles as my birthday age since I turned 50 and I still haven't made it happen. Weather dependent, I am gonna do the Prescott Circle Trail + on my 58th. Was gonna do it on my 57th, and then we got a bunch of weather a week before my b-day and a lot of the trails were unrideable.
It would be basically impossible to ride up those trails. At points it's so steep. I've tried to ride back up some sections when a friend had a mechanical and it's just ridiculous. Oh, and the 50 would be pretty easy on the road or gravel bike!
Got some time off in June and have wanted to do the Downieville XC race but this year the timing doesn't work for me. Think I will head up and give this a shot though. Great video.
Great job dude!!! I'm also 45, and I keep joking "I haven't peaked yet." My joints may have some convincing arguments to the contrary, but I'm still looking for new goals and challenges. Keep fighting brother! 🤘🏻
Happy birthday. I did something similar last year, climbed a shuttle trail instead of shuttling it, but the climb wasn't quite as bad, 8mi (5mi gravel, 3mi paved) and 3k ft gain, was actually kinda funny I managed to pass a few roadies on the paved section of the climb haha (and I'm neither skinny nor super fit). The 5mi of downhill was almost worth the effort, though definitely won't do that one without a shuttle again haha.
I’m the roadie/gravel version of you! 😂 I am 250lbs and in the best shape I have ever been. My riding buddy is 165lbs, but we’re climbing Mt. Lemmon in Tucson and suffering tons of smaller climbs. I just wish losing weight was easier, but it’s a slog. Best!
when nature sends midges to make the branches wave in front of your face, you know what she thinks about your endeavour why don't you ride up the downhill trail, instead of the boring gravel roads? The video though, is awesome! Capturing quirks & mood. Best shape B1ker, the old relais station of the US MTB bunch, is back!
What a great inspiration. I get ya with using humor. Proud of ya.. I'm on the same journey. I'm doing RAGBRAI this year. A 500 mile week long bike ride across the state of Iowa in July. Not sure how it will go, but looking forward to the physical and mental challenge.
You have definitely gone off the deep end lol. There’s no way i’m doing that climb… looks brutal! Any chance you would do the Hoosier trail again near the mammoth bar OHV?
Dude, did that back in the early 2000s with my nephew and my two son’s Zach was 8 Wyatt was 12. I was an old fuck an older fuck now but anyway it was fucking fun. Did I say we did not ride from town and rode from the lower parking camping area. ❤
This route was definitely a bit more bareable. It's pretty steep on the regular trail in spots as well. Either way, it was a big day. I wouldn't attemp the regular trail unless I was on an e-bike.
I’m always hungry. 😂 joking aside, I burn a lot of calories every day so I don’t think my hunger is any different. I will say, I’m better at making food decisions that make me feel full longer though.
the solution to all this masochistic behavior is to Reduce one's 'purity ' issues and get an E MTB. You're going to get one sooner or later ,so why suffer . i switched to E bikes when i was 69, that was 8 years ago . Now , riding up is the best part of the ride . 😎
Even if I had an e-bike I’d do this with an analog bike. An e-bike would be more for shuttle lap kindof stuff or some really big back country stuff that isn’t as easy to pedal. I hear ya though, it’s only a matter of time before I get one.
Sorry i was being a bit sarcastic . anyway when you reach a certain age and get an e bike you will fell reborn .i stopped riding because of weakness and injuries and when i tried an e bike ,i could ride again as if i went back twenty years . really really fun . all the best .
Everyone needs a pine needle gnat guard in their life. 😂
Everything smells amazing 😂
Happy 45 man! Still excited to follow along on your journey and still enjoying your storytelling and honesty!
Thanks man, stoked ya dig it!
Congratulations buddy on that achievement! Would never even consider that ride!!! Inspiring and happy that you accomplished that!
But you do Cross fit….seems like you hate yourself too! 😂
Can't imagine a better way to celebrate 46! Happy birthday! Thanks for letting us come along
Thanks 🙌
As an older than you, big bearded dude as well, I'm impressed. Congrats. From my perspective, this was one of your best vids ever! It was nice to see Josh out there w you.

Happy bday dude! Awesome video and ride for your 45th.
Thanks!
I haven’t watched in a couple months, and you’re looking trim! Keep up the great work.
I’m 10 day out from 46!
Right on 🙌
Congrats man! Awesome work! 🔥🔥🔥🔥👊👊👊👊

I don’t usually cramp up but I did like 4K in climbing two days before and I think I was a little fatigued when I started.
Pretty cool man! Awesome video. Happy 45th and to many more!
Thanks 🙏
Huge accomplishment Robert….Congratulations
Thanks 🤘
I was one of the people that built that trail.
It was for motorcycles we put a lot of work into it enjoy.
Great job!
That is a crazy climb without an e-bike.
After being there it really puts it in a better perspective!
Great job brother
Thanks!
“It only takes a bike to be a B1ker” Robert! Happy birthday and congratulations on conquering what a lot of people think is impossible 🙌🏻
Thanks man!
Outstanding Rob…. Great Video & Keep Shredding bro.
Dave
Thanks man!

Love it! Leg power! Congrats!
Thank you!!
What a fun adventure!! Thanks for the inspiration!
Glad ya enjoyed watching!
the gnats are thick as pea soup here in NJ...happy b day and climb on...i'm 60 and still grinding it out.. once you make friends with your pain, you will never be alone
Hahahaha, right after I filmed this I was riding in PA and was reminded there are gnats there. We don't deal with them normally in CA.
Insane! Happy 45th 🎉
Thanks 🤘
Love how you narrated this story and the build up! 🤘🤘🤘 Happy birthday Robert!
Thanks buddy! It’s been too long since we hung out.
Great way to celebrate a birthday. Many happy returns!
Definitely was a good time...and a little painful. Hahahahaa!
Happy Birthday,Rob!
Thanks man, it's been a few months since then but I appreciate it.
Legend! That's a tough downhill so awesome you climbed then descended it.
Thanks man!
So relatable. Keep it up! And yes, it sucks to always be the last one up the hill.
Thanks!
Happy birthday ya old bastard!! Keep pushing!! Keep inspiring. I think I’ll go do something stupid!
Great idea 👍
Happy Birthday, hell of a ride to celebrate!
Thanks man!

Happy Birthday Robert! Was this a recent video? I was expecting a lot of snow at the top. Cautiously optimistic to book a shuttle ride STAT!
It was filmed last summer. They still have a boatload of snow up there
Got some time off in June and have wanted to do the Downieville XC race but this year the timing doesn't work for me. Think I will head up and give this a shot though. Great video.
Thanks man! It’s a fun accomplishment and most people think you are crazy when you say you’ve done it.
Happy birthday and nice one getting that huge climb done mate. Making a climbing trail entertaining would be tough but you pulled it off man.
I was wondering if I could make a video about climbing fun. Glad ya liked it.
Now that was a f***in BIKE RIDE!!!
*aggressive high five
Thanks buddy! 🙌
This was such an amazing video! Cant wait to be there in a few weeks. Do you have the actual road you went up on trailforks?
It's this one: www.trailforks.com/trails/gold-valley-road-ca-49-to-pavement/

Hahahhaa! Sounds like a fun day!
Best MTB youtube video i have watched in ages, fair play fella that's an epic ride and way to spend your birthday!!!!!
Right on man, that’s awesome to hear 🤘
New video, finally!!!
Nice to watch it
I know it's been a bit. Hope ya enjoyed it!

Right on man! It’s definitely more fun gaining weight. 😂😂😂
Happy birthday brother and good job
Thanks!

The downhill trail is waaaay too steep. Glad ya liked the vid 🤘

That’s awesome! Good luck man.
Such an awesome video! Great team you have with you! This is so inspiring! PS..Happy belated birthday!!
Thanks man!
What an epic trail for sure, brutal climb bit looksso worth it congrats on the milestone 🤘.
Definitely was a different spin on the Downieville experience.
Ya look great!!!!
Thanks man!
Happy birthday B1🎉. What bike you ride on this epic adventure ?
I rode my Bronson!
You're a legend
Hahaha, thanks man!
Nice vid and HBD! Is this old footage… where’s the snow?
It was last August. It’s definitely under snow right now.
Happy birthday bro.
Thanks!
Awesome happy belated birthday
Thanks!
It looks like a stupid thing to do on your birthday. Birthdays are supposed to be fun Robert! and yet it looked awesome at the same time. Great video.
I know right!?!? So confused 😂
Done that climb a few times. It's an absolute bitch. I usually park at the bottom of FR97 to break up a bit of the climb.
That makes sense. I just wanted to roll up to the pizza shop and be done. 😂
You have definitely gone off the deep end lol. There’s no way i’m doing that climb… looks brutal!
Any chance you would do the Hoosier trail again near the mammoth bar OHV?
I was thinking I need to do an updated series on the Auburn trails.
For the most part though, that trail wasn’t particularly fun. Grizzly is right around the corner and way more fun to ride.
He B1 when did you Ride Downieville is the Snow already melted
No this is last summer. It's definitely waaaaay under snow right now.
Ok thanks for the helpful tips definitely bringing a bunch of water this summer
Aprox. when was this Robert? I'd think there'd be tons of snow and water running there(May/2023)
It was August of last year.
Did you get off at Sierra City and climb or through Sardine Lake?
We turned on a fire road before Sierra City.

Colorado Rocky Mountain High.
I thought you might be climbing the actual trail.

You look thinner, has your hunger gone down as you lost weight? How much do you weigh now ..?
I’m always hungry. 😂 joking aside, I burn a lot of calories every day so I don’t think my hunger is any different. I will say, I’m better at making food decisions that make me feel full longer though.

Winning! 😂
@@B1KER 😂😂
seriously stoked for you though! This place is special and you got to experience it like very few people have. 🤘🏼
Bro... we climbed over 4,500 ft in SRA together a couple years ago! I don't know why you're acting like you're not an animal climber.... 😂
Hahahaha, I’m a closet climber. 😂 Don’t tell anyone else!
