@@georgec3650 I've been a driver on similar loco's (NS Class 1700) in my country, I even got my hands on the original Alsthom factory plate. Very nice locos to drive :D
It's funny how SNCF recovered these locomotives. Here in Portugal the railway company CP did the same: took those Alsthom locos back from the junkyard and gave them new life in recent electrified lines. And they do still work perfectly!
Always love to see these classic French engines. No illusions that this isnt budget travel. Cheap and cheerful, nothing wrong with that. Great review, as always.
I was lucky to travell with Ouigo TGV from Lyon to paris 2h11m only for 15€ back in late november! I even saw tickets for 9,90€ from Paris to Marseille 3h05m duration 😃 much love from Hungary ❤️🇭🇺 Travelling with tgv was my dream since the age of 5... Now i am 21 I really love Ouigo colors. Those pink and light blue are very calm. Even the water in the toilet is blue too 😂
I live in Japan, and I am jealous. Nantes to Paris Bercy is about 50 km longer than Tokyo to Nagoya which is 1.5 hours by Shinkansen…but if we want to travel on a train other than Shinkansen we will be in for a trek of at least 6 hours, on at least 5 TER equivalents. And it will cost about JPY 5,500 or USD 45.
Well at least it's still better than Korea, which doesn't even have a high speed rail network. There's a video explaining Korea's rail network, but from what i've seen, there's not even a single high speed rail line : ruclips.net/video/GpxOsJYobeA/видео.html

I like it. Although the colour scheme is a bit... pink. I do not mind having no power outlets - I never need to charge anything during my train rides (I read a book, watch the scenery outside or sleep). For me, this seems to be the perfect non-highspeed train. And I LOVE the engine. It is the most beautiful electric locomotive besides the BR103.

The main issue is that power sockets are provided in some coaches and not others. You might be assigned a seat with a power socket you don't need, whilst someone else who might make use of them is assigned a seat in a coach that doesn't have them. You pay the same for your ticket though and have no option to select.
Thank you for finally talking about the colour ! Nobody talks about this big dildo roaming through the country. Ouigo colours are just awful and should be considered a crime. But the Corail come back is just a treat, such a comfortable ride ^^

@@tonywalters7298 The interior colour scheme and grey bench seating does remind me of American school bus interiors but those seats do look a bit more comfortable. Still for 5€ that's a hell of a lot better than Greyhound in the USA.
I'm sorry for not being able to write in french, but I totally agree. France is well connected from Paris outwards, but adding reasonably fast services between these radial lines would greatly improve the quality of life in the country by creating some sort of spiderweb and Ouigo could be an appropriate solution.
Tout a fait (indeed). That's been the ongoing problem in France, everything is centralized for Paris first and the rest after. Take into consideration the Marseilles Nice line. Today's TGV rides 20 km/h slower than 30 years ago due to no/poor infrastructure maintenance.
16 bike spaces in an 8-car train. Brilliant. I write European cycling guide books and have been concerned lately by the reducing provision of cycle spaces on French TGV trains (removal of all cycle spaces on Lyria, no cycle spaces on new InOui TGV Sud Duplex units, no cycle spaces on any OuiGo service). In particular the old style TGVs (with 4 cycle spaces per unit) that used to run twice a day from Paris to Avignon and back have been replaced with Duplex sets with no bike provision. The only remaining way to travel from Paris to the South of France with a bike has been to use a TER train from Bercy to Lyon and another TER on to Marseille - a very slow way of travel. The OuiGo classique is the first OuiGo service with bike spaces which at €10 are cheaper than InOui (€15), that is if you can find an InOui set with bike provision. And the new OuiGo classique service to Lyon will bring cycle carriage back to an important main line route.
And I heard that the Lyon-Marseille TER route will be split in 2 at Valence. Indeed, Ouigo classique will make it much faster to use classic trains, and thus much easier. Once the RCR TERs are taken OOS between Paris and Lyon I'll definitely take the ouigo classique, but until then I will continue hopping in the compartmentalized cab cars 😎
The liveries of ouigo are so bold, I love them, compare them to new British liveries, majority are of a white base colour with a little bit of colour, some I’m glad to see European trains with a variety of colour.
It is entirely possible that the sub-standard vehicle was a last-minute substitution for a defective, refurbished, one. It is equally possible that the refurb programme hasn't been completed as quickly as it should. That said, it looks reasonable overall.
Thibault, thanks for this... I agree that "carpet doesn't match the drapes" and a little more attention to interior detail would have been warranted, but you couldn't even ride with cattle for that price here! I love the concept, being envious of even this in the U.S.!
true but don't forget the size of France to your USA maybe on the east coast lines or west coast in CA around Los Angeles but as i've said your country is huge and your network is .. sorry to say cr-p !
Hey ! Thanks for the shout-out ! Loved your trip report ! Personally, i don't agree with the concept of Ouigo, especially with the luggage, because you don't know what they call a small luggage, a big luggage... But Ouigo has a big positive point for me, as trainspotter, they did some awesome liveries for their trains ! Again, thanks for the shout-out, and i'll be very happy to spot other french trains you'll travel with !

there is something that makes me happy about this. That is that even if corail is already 50 y/o more or less the fact that they made a brand new service with those cars, that they are present in a lot of services around the country makes me think that they are making an effort to preserve them as long as possible (unlike other countries). Add also recent modifications like the renewing of the corail reversible units made in 2008. And some refurbishments as well. Taking all of this, hopfully they will be with us for quite a while more. And don't get me wrong, modern trains like Regiolis Regio2n or Coradia Liner are not bad at all, but there is something about corail they can't replicate if you know what i mean.
A well balanced report. At least you have a classic train (in pink) to travel on. Railcars seem to make up the bulk of all travel that isn't high speed today, so very happy to see it. Hoping to get back to France soon. Saw my first Corail coach at Calais in 1979. They were new and exciting then! Just glad that they made it this far.
Nice video. Thank you for your upload. Nice and interesting shots. Very nice that you gave many information and it was really cool to see the different impressions of the station, the ride and the train.😃 I like the idea to have low-coast and normal trains for high-speed and intercity services. So you have for each category more options, great. Funny for me is that you told years ago in one of your Ouigo-TGV videos that Sncf should run low-coast intercity trains too. Now they do.
I liked the color scheme of the train on the outside. I agree with you on the coaches, they didn't seem like they worried about the upgrade. I thought in one coach, the seats were there different colors. They definitely need to get have access to power and internet. Happy Easter! Have a great weekend.
Actually, I think it is better without refurbishement. The Ouigo high speed seats are way less confortable than the "Corail" one (which are shown in the video).
Nice livery, very striking and I love the use of the older stock and classic French locomotives. We need cheaper train travel, it's much to expensive in the UK. I was a train driver on British Rail and traveled by train everywhere. Even with high fuel cost it's cheaper for me to drive my car, than take a train, nowadays, such a shame
The first time I saw pictures of those Corails coaches in pink, I told myself that it was really weird, but I think now I'm liking it!
Regarding the colour scheme, it was a logical choice to invert the TGV Ouigo colours (which I love, by the way. This azure blue fits perfectly to travelling to a sea vacation using the TGV/LGV Mediterranee or Atlantique).
Something that Amtrak could do in the midwest, using older referred cars connect stations missed by their long haul train. The only problem is the freight railroads that want amtrak gone. I hope this takes off. Nice video
Eye catching exterior. Comfy seats, lower fares and slower speeds makes for a pleasant way to enjoy the scenery. Thank you Thibault for this good video.😀💙💙

A progressive video of good step change in French travel. As a foreign tourist it gives me hope of getting around France to see more at a very reasonable price😊
Enjoyable video, thanks. I agree, it's a real pity that they've not upgraded and standardised the interiors. Using the high speed services across France cuts journey times, but the beautiful French scenery whizzes by so quickly it's difficult to really appreciate it sometimes. I like the fact that they're re-introducing more 'classic' services.
Great trip. SNCF doing a great job, making classic train great again with rebranding them on Low cost Classic Train service to compete with road transportation. But sadly, their preparation for this concept looks like in a hurry. I'm curious, can the Private/Commercial operator like Flixtrain can entered in France for Commercial service? Or all of Train Transportation in France monopolised?
About the matching seats: although I agree it looks a bit shabby why should we dispose perfectly usable seats just because their prints don’t all match? I think there’s no harm in trying to reuse material rather than spending extra money on it.
It is a coherent system, appealing colour scheme not shocking at all great to see classic train in use. Also the price appeal is great so all in one this is a great concept to travel cheap, without worrying about time. A good Nokia 3310 strategy 👌
I noticed the toilet window opened at the top. That's always a nice (sneaky) place to hang a camera out to get a good shot of the train travelling through the countryside. Just make sure you have a strap attaching the camera to your wrist! Another great video.
Some TER services are also in Corail trains like Paris - Strasbourg, Paris - Orleans - Tours (mixed with the newer Omneo Premium trains), Marseille - Nice (mixed with TER 2NNG and Regio2N trains), Strasbourg - Bale...
Since they didn't advertised the outlets, I'm fine with it. Some coaches have a slightly older interior but aside from the colors, it's the same. Also, pretty sure that they all have AC.
Overall I'm satisfied with this OUIgo Vitesse the fare, speed and 4hrs 08mins Nantes- Paris. Max €30 I will not complaint comparison to TGV or TER takes shorter by 2 over hrs. Bike room @ €10 is unbelievable. So it's even better than driving about 8hrs long with toll routes. Flixbus about over 6hrs. One should live without Outlets since you decide to take this 50yrs old train. The cushions aren't that bad. Foot-leg space is OK. Cheap things gives you less for money. Its even better to enjoy countryside views with 160km/h. In 3rd world countries sitting on old train is beyond what you get on this OUIgo Vitesse. The pilot cockpit head looks funny like some cartoons but it looks solid. Paris Bercy-Nantes with this is completely perfect. Something I'm looking forward soon. In Suisse trains it will cost lot more but service and quality is totally different. That means cheaper tickets@€10-€20 ouhlala. Thanks so much for your brilliant video. Appreciate much 😁🙏👏
I pray that leaders see that trains would be more popular than cars or planes with cheaper prices. Competition is only starting now that new companies are able to bid for lines, to follow the European directive or law. Hopefully time will tell.
I couldn't believe the woman's suitcase in the aisle. Someone should have helped her if she was physically unable. After about 3 offers, she would know it's a inconvenience let alone emergency exit hazard.
It’s a shame that the seat covers were not in the same colours as the exterior and likewise with the provision of power sockets. A decent interior would’ve made it bright and zingy! Also some form of at seat catering on the part of SNCF/Ouigo would be a welcome development on this service. Perhaps this is something that SNCF will consider by adding a catering car to the consist in the future?
Sure it would be nice to have a charging point but I actually prefer these interiors to the new ouigo ones. There’s also something so nice about the way these trains ride.
I'm British/Italian by birth, now British/Luxembourgish by nationality for the last few years, have lived in Luxembourg nearly all my life. I remember the good old "train Corail" back in the day, to Paris or to the south of France, back when SNCF had a monopoly... It seems to me we are coming full circle with this, "standard" Express trains alongside high-speed trains (TGV and others), not sure that privatisation was/is a good thing in the long run, at least ÖBB is bringing a bit of sanity back with the NightJet!
Great review as always 🤩 Fantastic taking on the car and buses 🤣 Hopefully they’ll get better find more routs 👍🏻 And better than sending them to the cutters gas axe for scrap 🙄🏴
Having a dedicated passenger railline with discounted prices here in the U.S would be the only way to get people out of their cars. Sure we can get high speed rail in some places, but most railroad lines here share with freight cars, which have priority. I'm not sure that is why train travel is more expensive than plane travel or car travel across country, and I think it's alot better overall than car or plane. The cost and the time factor could be improved if ever cars would be less on overburdened highways. Last year I took a train trip of a similar distance here in the western U.S., it took 2 trains and a bus to get to destination, cost $200 for coach seat (non-sleeper) without access to shower on 36-hour trip total. So yeah, some places have got the infrastructure in place already. Lucky dogs
So I tried looking up on Google about the riot that was mentioned earlier in the video. But I got none of that information at all. So can anybody tell me why there is a riot about the new service?
I wish EU would authorize competition with Ouigo in conventional trains to get Flixtrain remodeled Corails, involving SNCF in a minimal way. SNCF needs to hire more coach cleaners for all services in general, including TGV is sometimes dirty even in first. Ouigo service needs power outlets and fast wifi, new LED Lighting too, the current yellow lighting looks horribly dated. Also, a cafe and snack vending machins on TER and Ouigo would be good. It's too bad SNCF cut back Bar and Diners in the 90's.... At least offer something in 1st for TER. GREAT REVIEW as always!
Well you get what you pay for I suppose. Not sure I see the appeal but I guess it's nice for the super duper cost conscious traveler. If you can't book a connecting journey I'm not sure the value added of servicing intermittent non LGV stops. Maybe a more useful service would be a low cost feeder option allowing those in smaller communities to access existing high speed service under one ouigo umbrella
Still the classic Corail interior, even the original seats. How pleasantly retro. If only the UK's Train Operating Companies had done the same with HSTs rather than installing new, and invariably less comfortable, seats. And this modern fixation with power sockets; turn off the phone and the laptop for a while. Relax.
I think the livery is not bad but not that good either, bright pink works better with mixing it with dark colours so it looks cool and more classy. For example, look up "Kessel Racing Iron dames Ferrari 488" - now that's incredible livery although on a race car (that raced at Le Mans 24h by the way) instead of train. But anyways, get the idea I guess. Lack of power outlets in some coaches can be a bit of an annoyance especially on such long trip. Someone may once travel in a coach that has one and next trip don't worry about charging phone before trip assuming there will be one.. but ending up in a coach without power outlets.
Comparing this train to the local offerings where I'm from, I can honestly say I'd rather the Ouigo any time. At least the windows are clean, the seats are all functional and there's no horrible graffiti scrawled over everything. Last time I had to take a local train here, only one coach of fifteen was clean and functional. Others were painted, had cracked windows and seats missing because someone had lit them on fire, slashed the covers or left questionable stains on them.
Talk about 1st world worries - while people on our TV screens are literally running for their lives, and maternity hospitals with newborn babies are being blown to pieces, we worry about the seats not being the same colour!! Anyway, how great is it to see, after all these decades, these classic French locomotives hauling heavy express trains at 160kph?
Can someone explain the protests against new ouigo service in nantes? Can't find anything about it on english, unfortunately since all of them are in French.
So they are reusing a 45 years old Bullet train Coaches for a Semi Hi Speed Train service at reduced speed Perfect . They still work even after 45 Years in service.. Fantastic

I absolutely love the pink livery! Agree on the chair fabric though, does rather spoil the effect. At least the price is good though, hideously expensive in the UK now 😢
The early days of Flixtrain were like this - you can see this in the model train world - they didn't even have the bright green exterior with the black window band - they were makeshift looking collections of several different UIC cars. Not refurbished, no Wifi... the feeling was that of the mid 80s. Now they are all refurbished, have a nice wood-finish interior, all seats are (looking) new, WiFi and nice exterior. Maybe the SNCF didn't want to throw money away and is waiting for the services to be accepted and then will refurbish everything but I agree - you can't call a service "2nd class only" and then have some cars without AC and without power outlets. It's 2022. We all have devices we need to charge and if the trip is 4h instead of 2h, a lot of devices will drain to almost empty on the way. This is an absolute embarrassment. It would've been better of NO ONE had had a power outlet if you ask me instead of just SOME. Even if it had been an extra you'd have to pay for it would've been better. But this is just laughing in the customers' faces. It's disrespectful.

@@quayzar1 The seats are EXTREMELY comfortable. Like in a 70's car, plenty of cushion.
I'm sorry for not being able to write in french, but I totally agree. France is well connected from Paris outwards, but adding reasonably fast services between these radial lines would greatly improve the quality of life in the country by creating some sort of spiderweb and Ouigo could be an appropriate solution.
@@maxart3392 That's effectivly the whole idea. :)
Seems like you know the subject well! Can you please share a link to your guides? Thanks
14:10 what a nice guy, haha
It is entirely possible that the sub-standard vehicle was a last-minute substitution for a defective, refurbished, one. It is equally possible that the refurb programme hasn't been completed as quickly as it should. That said, it looks reasonable overall.
Both assumptions are incorrect. There are no “standardized” interiors
Oh that's really cool seeing the MCB close at 5:57

French countryside is stunning. I've only visited France once but I want to go again.
The line along the south coast from Martigues to Marseille has some spectacular scenery.

Yeah it is
there is something that makes me happy about this.
Classic train are the best😍😍😍
I hope corail train never die
Those coaches still have really big windows, I'm impressed and jealous of the natural light you get in there!
Very nice that you gave many information and it was really cool to see the different impressions of the station, the ride and the train.😃
I like the idea to have low-coast and normal trains for high-speed and intercity services.
The first time I saw pictures of those Corails coaches in pink, I told myself that it was really weird, but I think now I'm liking it!
idem/same
Regarding the colour scheme, it was a logical choice to invert the TGV Ouigo colours (which I love, by the way. This azure blue fits perfectly to travelling to a sea vacation using the TGV/LGV Mediterranee or Atlantique).
This is a genius idea and definately will encourage more train users all at a affordable price
Instead of bringing back « normal trains » for everyone, they created a new brand for it and sell tickets by internet only ! A real progress…🤮
BEAU TRAIN FRANCAIS jadore merci simpli railway

Feels like the train trips from my childhood in the 80s and 90s.
Flixtrain wanted to enter the French rail market but pulled out after the pandemic
The color makes a statement and stands out.
What would be useful is either a small drinks trolley or somewhere maybe a vending machine on board where such basic things as water may be purchased.
About the matching seats: although I agree it looks a bit shabby why should we dispose perfectly usable seats just because their prints don’t all match? I think there’s no harm in trying to reuse material rather than spending extra money on it.
I love the pink trains!!!
Cheers from 4k walk in Poland . If my grandfather was alive, he would watch this channel every day. 🖐👍🤝🙋♂️.
If i am not mistaken the flap Windows in the passenger area and the doors aren’t locked
I'm glad to see they're still using that classic loco!
7:12 - one thing has changed: the folded curtains, typical for corail coaches, are gone.
And some seats too were replaced... But not all of them
The trains look a bit like DB intercity 1 trains and Flixtrain (You said this). Great Video! (Sorry for my bad English)
For me, It's a surprise to see Corail cars still running on SNCF services in France.
I really hope these are still good for service and won't fail too much 😕
@@fanfan54old why would they fail ? They have been well updated are very reliable and are super comfy

That means cheaper
tickets@€10-€20 ouhlala.
Thanks so much for your brilliant video.
Appreciate much 😁🙏👏
The seats are fine. The different colours fit ouigo's circus themed colourfulness.
The livery is too loud, but I like the big windows on Corail coaches. The seats look joined together like a bench. Do the individual seats recline?
no the seats dont recline the older ones where Thibaut sat at first were changed at the beginning of the century if i remember rightly
Nice effort to offer cheaper transport. The big problem with European trains is that the ticket prices are not competative.
Great video as always , hopefully back to a more easily travel time in future.
SNCF sure has figured out all! Those prices can’t be beat!
I wonder why they painted/wrapped the only bb22000 that was wearing a multiservice paint scheme.
I am a train manager in Ouigo TGV, thanks for this vidéo
I like the different seats, its funny in some way. The pink livery makes me kind of crazy.

Here you can see a BB26000 (aka Sybic), which could be used in the future for these OUIGO trains
Lucky dogs
Great - why are so many people obsessed with speed? Plus, the seats look great - without the curse of modern bolt upright headrests.
I need to save this video to watch it when I travel there 😁
The first time I saw this train was on April 1st. Really thought it was a joke. Yet, here it is again.
So I tried looking up on Google about the riot that was mentioned earlier in the video. But I got none of that information at all. So can anybody tell me why there is a riot about the new service?
It's because this new service will add more work to crew members so they want the sncf to increase their remuneration or something
@@sam.g7278 ohh I see.
Thanks for sharing this video 👍👍👍
Can you please make a video about Amtrak Vermonter? And patco train?
Well you get what you pay for I suppose. Not sure I see the appeal but I guess it's nice for the super duper cost conscious traveler. If you can't book a connecting journey I'm not sure the value added of servicing intermittent non LGV stops. Maybe a more useful service would be a low cost feeder option allowing those in smaller communities to access existing high speed service under one ouigo umbrella
I have some question for Simply Railways Channel, Why Simply Railways didn't try the Indonesia Intercity trains?
Maybe it's too far from France and they couldn't travel to Indonesia... for now? 😅😅😅
It works well with white as well. Look up the buses that run in the Arnhem-Nijmegen (Netherlands) area from Breng.
@@OneKnifeYeHand Aye, those look pretty smart
Super sympa le tee shirt des CFF 😁😁😁😁
I think its because this new service gives the train crew more work so they protest about it
pushing through reforms detrimental to working conditions and work-life balance.
So they are reusing a 45 years old Bullet train Coaches for a Semi Hi Speed Train service at reduced speed
Perfect .
They still work even after 45 Years in service..
Fantastic

It's so... pink.
For 5€ that’s amazing… wish we had such options in UK
Nice👍👍👍
Enjoyable vouyage! It likes reciclyng traín.
I absolutely love the pink livery! Agree on the chair fabric though, does rather spoil the effect. At least the price is good though, hideously expensive in the UK now 😢
Classic French... striking!
Great review! What I think they might do is offer the "bad" seats for cheaper later on.
The train service was picketed.
In the US only anti rail NIMBYS picket rail service.
These train look just like Indian 80 mph night sleeper trains from the outside 👍
Coaches look fantastic for the price you are paying. 👍
This could be very interesting competition as Flixtrain plans to expand into France.
