RIP David Lander! Every week I wanted to crawl through the TV and pound Lenny and Squiggy's heads through a wall. But that was their reverse charm that kept us laughing! 😊
This hits close to home as I also have MS! I was diagnosed in 2009 and I feel fortunate to live in a time with lots of medications available. When David was diagnosed, there wasn't much available besides cortisone.
Lenny and Squiggy were the greatest and funniest sitcom duo ever. They deserved a show of their own. It hurts to see -Squiggy- David like this but life is what life is. RIP David Lander
McKean, Lander and Harry Shearer actually wrote a Lenny and Squiggy pilot in the first season of Laverne & Shirley. It put them in the army. ABC passed on it. I have confirmed that a tape of the presentation does exist although its never been seen.
@@danpasternackOCD Seriously? WOW! Do you know who owns it? And am I'm talking to someone involved the, uh..."biz"? I'm a local playwright, actor, songwriter, funny guy, pot smoker and child of the 60's. As a side project, I write songs for a couple of internet bands, upload them to iTunes and make .00061 cents per stream on Spotify. It's a living. Yeah, I thought Lenny and Squiggy were the funniest thing on four legs. Mister Ziffle and his pig Arnold were a funny duo too. Would love to see that pilot.
@@theorangepekoeteabagband4330 I would love to see it too. It was produced by Paramount TV as that was the studio where Garry Marshall did all of his series in the 70s like Happy Days, Laverne & Shirley and Mork & Mindy.
it was not just the hello voice...but the direction of his eyes towards you/audience and that fleeting slight smirk...I love the round-about "difficult" time he gave you...LOL
back again....david did say a small "hello" in his wonderful key as he was encouraging U....His hello will always bring a smile to this person's face n heart..
It’s too bad that David Lander didn’t get more opportunities I would have loved to see him in some of the projects by Guest, Scherer and Reiner. He deserved it. Laverne and Shirley might have run only one or two seasons if not for McKeon and Landers.
The funny part was the setup...like he said... Shirley would say something like "Who would be STUPID enough to hit on the principals DAUGHTER while he is right there?" and then the door will SLAM-OPEN... Heddo!
Lenny and Squiggy's entrances were always the best part of every episode, greatest setup - payoff in TV history! Shirley: It's like that horrible disgusting green fuzz you find under the refrigerator-" "HELLO!" Fifty years later it's still hilarious!
TV has been dying in quality creativity and entertainment the last 10 years more than any other period in its history since 1948. TV today is boring dull crap the last 10 years. Two & A Half Men looks like the last good comedy sitcom that will ever exist. Only 3 of the cast are with us now. Miss them all. Very sad and makes me feel very old. These 1970s and 1980s shows I grew up watching loving no longer have most of the cast regular alive now. Eddie most recently. David in 2000. Penny in 2018. Betty in 2011 and Phil in 1985. In fact Phil passed away suddenly just 2 years after the series ended.
Good grief ... just say "hello" like you did on the Lavern And Shirley show. Maybe he was tired of mainly being known for it and so didnt wanna keep saying it?
lenny and squiggy singing "night after night" is one of my favorite scenes in the whole series. brilliant.
"It's about two nights in a row."
Lenny and the Squigtones performance of Night After Night is one of the greatest scenes in the history of television.
I just watched it the other day, and it still kills me! 😂😂😂
My other favorite is "A Silent Ho Ho" about Santa dying in the poorhouse!
Love that and love his role. And love his role as Smarty aka Smartass from Who Framed Roger Rabbit.
RIP

He and his family managed it for many years with tremendous grace and strength. Wishing you every blessing in your situation.
