Have you visited the Isle of Skye? If so, what was your favourite thing about the Island? For me, it was this hike, even though there were so many other things that were exciting and breath taking too!
I was in Skye 3 weeks ago, the Quiraing is incredible and i thought you showed it off so well. I was quite lucky with the weather but i love it when its all moody. I spent the best part of a day exploring it and just taking it all in. I embraced every minute of it.
Very jealous that you were in Skye so recently. Thank you for your kind words about how I showed off the Quiraing well, though I must confess that the scenery made my job a whole lot easier! 🤣 Goes to show just because it's summer, it doesn't mean the weather will be better - sounds like you had better luck in November!
@@WhenAdventureKnox thank you. I’m hoping I’ll get some good ones, there is so much atmosphere around there. I’ve just subscribed to your channel so I’ll watch more of your videos later. Keep up the good work 👍 you’re a natural on camera 👍🤙
Hiked the fairy pools & Ben Nevis in July 2015. Wanted to do some longer hikes but was with older family members including my 80 year old mom (a proud Buchanan). She also hiked the fairy pools as well. She had to hold on to me on the way back out, not because she couldn’t make the hike but to keep the wind from knocking her down! We spent 12 days touring from Edinburgh, Inverness, Isle of Sky, Glencoe, Fort William, Stirling and finally Glasgow. Amazing trip, and I have been wanting to return and do more outdoor adventures. Not that castles, distillery’s, museums and the people are not fun and interesting as well! Will be back one day for sure.
Wow that sounds like an amazing trip and you packed so much in! Skye certainly has some more hikes, the Quiraing being one of my all time favourites. The Assynt region to the north of Ullapool also had some fantastic trails too. That's amazing that your mum at 80 did the fairy pools. The stepping stones across the streams alone would have been a mean feat, never mind when you throw in the crazy Scottish winds! Where abouts in the world were you visiting from? I'm wanting to guess either the US or Canada?
@@WhenAdventureKnox yes we stayed quite busy. We all are in the US - I live in Austin, TX, mom lives in Louisiana where we grew up. My sisters made that trip as well, they live in Dallas TX and Asheville NC. Really enjoyed this video and plan to watch more of them. Thanks for sharing!
@Mike Haynes Oh wow, that's so nice that you all got to come together over here! I visited both Texas (San Antonio) and Louisiana (New Orleans) back in 2010 and loved both. Would love to make it to Austin one day, especially for the food scene! So lovely to hear you're interested in watching more of my videos! 🙌
Next time you go, if you're on the Isle of Skye, I'd highly recommend this hike, it was my favourite activity of the whole trip and easily my favourite hike in the UK too.
Wonderful video. I have very limited capacity of hiking. Can you tell me approximately till what point (km wise) its easy, then at least I can plan to hike till that point. Thanks in advance.
Hey CloudNine Caravanning, so pleased to hear you enjoyed the video... and the music. The music is something I struggle with and was very happy when I found the Blue Dot Group's music. Thank you for the subscription, I hope I do Scotland justice over the coming series as it was so lovely!
I did this hike last month. We had very similar weather. Cloudy, rainy, SUPER windy. We decided to turn back right before the ascent because the clouds were rolling in and the descent looked steep. Looks like a good decision! This is an all time favorite for me too. This and Stac Pollaidth are both stunning and spectacular hikes. We had originally wanted to climb Ben Nevis but had to cut it out unfortuantely.. Just a quick question? What do you use to keep the wind from totally drowning out your words when you film?
The descent really was very steep and not a well maintained trail either, so with the clouds rolling in, I'd definitely say it was the right call. The views from the top were 'kinda cool', but the best part was definitely before the ascent, so you did the better part for sure! Back when I filmed the Scotland Vlogs, I just used the inbuilt microphone in the SonyZV1 camera, and it came with a tiny wind muff to sit on top of the microphone and I used that. I've semi-recently upgraded to an external mic I can plug in - the first video using that will be out next Sunday so will be interesting to see if anyone else picks up on that! But I've found a microphone can only do so much and sometimes, I just need to have the camera behind a wall or rock to shield it from the wind - not always great if I'm wanting a specific view behind me when talking though!
Not yet, but it's definitely on my bucket list, the country looks like paradise everywhere and I've heard such great things about the locals and how friendly and welcoming they are!
Siargao is very high on the list of places I want to visit when I make it to the Philippines. I'd not heard of Batanes before, but after a quick image Google search - my goodness, it looks stunning and quite different to what you'd expect from the Philippines ❤️ Thank you for introducing me to it!
As somebody who lives here and meets many wonderful visitors, all I would advise is that you don't try to walk Scotland in your designer trainers. Invest in a decent pair of waterproof, leather hiking boots and a few pairs of warm, woollen socks. If your feet are warm and dry, your heart is warm and happy.
100% agree! Thankfully I didn't have designer trainers... but my hiking shoes were definitely not waterproof. You live and you learn!! Hopefully others will see my mistake and read advice like yours and not make the same mistakes!
I'm from Australia but my family is from Scotland and now I have been to Scotland twice and both times I went to Skye, it's my favourite place outside of Australia and I don't even mind when it's cold and rainy there, in australia when it rains (it's not that often compared to other places) it's dull and miserable but in Scotland when it rains it's colourful/vibrant and very atmospheric. Gorgeous place!
I couldn't get over how stunning these views were either. It's funny though as I often think the same thing when I visit the US - places like Utah, Yosemite, Grand Tetons etc. I'm in awe of the views because we just don't have anything like them in the UK!!
Well done Caroline, nice video 👍 I did the Skye Trail and also wildcamped under the cliffs of the Quiraing. Very atmospheric and a bit spooky at night! Just subbed 👍 Here’s the link if you’re interested. ruclips.net/video/yaVuRzLmTHY/видео.html Cheers, Justin 🤠

I did last year, hoping to go back this year. And finished the unfinish business. That is hiking the loop of Quiraing ❤😊
Really helpful video and details - thanks!

My legs turned to jelly half way from the car park from the cliff height 😮
Great video, I’m off there tomorrow, thanks for sharing 👍🤙
Hi Stephen, glad you liked it and I hope you enjoy it - I bet at this time of year the photos will be amazing!!!

Have you hiked Arthur’s Seat? If so, how would that compare to the strenuous portion of this hike?
I love this. It's been too long since I've been to Scotland!

So pleased to hear this has inspired at least one other person! Enjoy it when you make it there!
Great video, do you think you need to be fit to do this?

@@WhenAdventureKnox You should definitely visit Siargao once it recovers from the recent typhoon. Batanes is also a dream destination!

Absolutely wild views, we don't have anything comparable to that landscape in the United States
