- Saturn Vue Repair broken manual shift cable adjuster. I did this one on the fly, didn't really have time to do a detailed presentation. A common break on the manual transmission Saturn Vues is the plastic cable adjuster breaks loose from the gear shift.
Video that shows removal of the center dash console if needed.

That you and bless you for taking the time to share this. Mine broke this evening and I will be ordering a new part to replace it myself. I have the shop manual for my 2006 Saturn Vue and it totally sucks. I has no information whatsoever on this are of the transmission. Thank God for RUclips and people such as yourself.
E.PLUMBUS UNUM thanks for the comment. I hope it fixes your problem. :)
I had removed the cover over the shifter and those parts looked like they were working so I went under the hood and thanks to that part in your video I saw that the cable had a slide kind of holder that held it in place so the cable part could be steady and the actual moving part switched the gears. I had put it in reverse kind of hard and I popped it out. It seems like it shifts a lot better now than it has been shifting. Thanks for the short and concise post of areas to look at for problems. It’s 10:00 in the evening and I didn’t want to Uber to work tomorrow. THANK YOU !!!
It is so great to hear that these videos help people. Thank you so much for commenting and I'm glad you are back on the road!
Part broke last week and I just got the new
part!
Thank you for this video, it is helpful and gives me confidence!
It’s so easy, and you assured that.
I hope it helps you Aaron! Thanks for the comment.
was on the freeway when that plastic connector disassembled :p Once it is assembled at the factory, it should have epoxy applied to ensure it stays assembled.
You are THE man! I just finished mine! Thank you very much!
Glad it helped!!
Been a couple of months...but here's a update. I gave in and took it to a mechanic. It was the cables that needed to be replaced. It cost about $475 here in Florida. I can now shift gears normally...and I changed the oil myself for the first time on this car. it sits at 251,000 miles and heading to 300K or more.
MrHodgeon5th keep that Saturn running! I'm sorry the video didn't help you.
it could have been several things... but I appreciate your help
Thank you A Million
I only had 3rd and 4th gears. Mine was a broken left bushing. I tried to unsuccessfully push the bushing onto the shifter pin by hand but wound up needing a C clamp. The clamp is the trick.
Thanks for the tip!
Mine almost has that problem, my left bushing is bad, how did you fix?
@@adanlittle7253 Almost? If it ain't broke, it's not the problem.
Thanks for the info broda!🙏🏼
Thanks for the comment!
second time mine has broken. ordered the part instead of paying a guy 200 to fix it like last time. any chance you think anyone could find someone to recast it out of metal so it stops happening or does it HAVE to be plastic...
Have you replaced the cables. I read somewhere that if the cables are too tight over time it brakes. ?? My Saturn was in totaled....sad day.
Hey Jackleg, I'm wondering if you can help me out. I have an 03 with 160xxx on it and the same thing happened to me. I've done everything you said and have been trying to fix it, but when it cane to prying the thing off with a flathead screwdriver, all my little flange piece did was break off. Should I just keep prying until the whole thing shatters and then take it off from there? I dont think it'd hurt anything as long as I didnt bend the cable or something. Thanks for your time and thanks for the video.
I had to rewatch the video because it was a while back. :) It seems to me if you can dig it out without damaging threads you should be ok. You are replacing the whole piece anyway. It's really hard to say without seeing it. Best of luck to you though.
Thanks 🙏
Hope it helps you!
I reallllly need to know what the white plastic piece and the wire that goes into are called. It's at the end if the shifter. CAN NOT FIGURE it out and my 06 is making me nuts trying to drive with that wire broken. Tje only thing I was told it may be is a retention wire ad I cannot find ANYTHINGon where to purchase, etc.
I no longer have this car. I believe though you are asking about the Shift Cable (wire) and Shift Cable bushing. That's the best I can guess.
J'ai un saturne ion 2007 je veu seignier la ligne à cluch main le câble veu pas sortir en enlevant la clips
Question - The price range for a new one?? Please
Looks like 1AAuto has them for $55. I can't remember what I paid. It was a while back.
About thirty bucks + shipping from RockAuto.
Thanks for the video.
If I’m not mistaken, the threaded end accommodates fine tuning of the cable’s throw distance (to the shifting position levers on the transmission housing) by popping the ball at the bottom of the stick shift out of the socket and twisting the adjuster either further up or down the cable end to the exact, correct distance for the smoothest operation.
@@davidkoloc1313 Rockauto only has the Dorman knock off. The GM OEM part is ~$33 at Amazon. Many complaints there about the Dorman.
My car is stuck in 1st gear...I cannot get it out. I ordered this piece you show so will I be able to install it while in 1st gear???
MrHodgeon5th yes, I think ours was in first gear when it broke.
Jackleg ...... I hope so... I got 250K miles on it, still has life. Just sticky shifter
MrHodgeon5th has the gear shift broken loose? That's ultimately what happened to the one in my video. The one we had ran great until it was wrecked. Sadly
Jackleg ......not broken loose, no.... I turn the car on, it won't leave 1st gear.....
gotcha. Ours was very hard to shift and eventually broke. different symptoms, but i hope this works for you.
god i wanted to give u a tissue so bad
Lol, allergies man. Sorry about that.
Jealous mind didn't come off that easy lol
I hope you were able to fix it.
Jackleg. Ya I got it done except putting the cables on tranny... I forgot which one goes on which post lol
