@@spaztastic6194 The guards never hit anyone though, they were told not to by Professor Zimbardo and respected his wishes, but they did do a lot of psychological torture and manipulation as that was still allowed and helped Zimbardo create the setting he wanted for the experiment

ryoriotwow The movie you're referring to was inspired by the true story that this film is actually based on. Yes they will be almost identical story archs, but, this movie certainly isn't copying the Experiment. This is what they should have made in 2010 in my opinion.
milafanway1 The truth is, that both this and the 2010 movie is a copy(or say, "remake") of a German movie, called "Das Experiment" from 2001. Obviously that's not an American film, so no American heard about it, so they had to make an American version of that. But trust me, that German movie is one of my best movies for sure. The 2010 Experiment sucks. (ps.: I'm neither German, nor American)

Maybe it's because I've never heard of this experiment or am involved in any psychology program, but I just randomly watched this movie in theaters and thought it was amazing. Very creepy, interesting, and it's definitely worth seeing.

Most of the commenters here are such idiots, this isn't a remake of The Experiment or Das Experiment, those movie were fiction inspired by this real life study that took place IN AMERICA in the 1970s, this movie is a bio pic of The Stanford Prison Experiment those films ripped off of. screw all the comments complaining about the movie. it was amazing and definitely worth the watch for people with a more deeply thinking mind in my opinion, since you really need to get past all of the 'weird shit' and remember this actually happened to real people

I remembered how fucked up I thought the real experiment was when I learned about it in high school psychology. Watching this trailer really brings back those feelings, although this movie is dramatized for obvious reasons, the fucked up-ness of this experiment is reflected in this movie.

Reminds of a psychological study I studied during my A-Levels. It was a banned BBC study based on Zimbardo's original findings (a study by Reicher and Haslam), but wow this looks great... Maybe it will finally shed light on what went terribly wrong. I wonder how factually accurate it is though...
Well they have plenty of notes and footage to go from. I remember watching the original experiment footage in a psychology class. It was interesting how the students took on their roles.
It's very accurate. Zimbardo consulted on the script and the editing.
This and Milgram are what got me into the social sciences. This is a must-see for me.

Amazing movie. Even though it's a dramatization, the real footage of the experiment is wayyy more disturbing.
The fact the power abuse can get to such a level. It will all go to your head eventually. When you begin to test the limits and see just how far you can push them, until you realize there isn't a limit then when ypu realize you have the power to do whatever you want when you want with these people. You do, Exactly that.

Psychology/ Sociology class? I had psychology 1st semester and I'm currently in sociology which is how I learned about this.
I was reading a book, Lucifer effect, written by the director of this experiment. The fact that this movie will open soon in theater, makes my skin crawl. Can't wait for the movie.
It was good. With all the movies inspired by the experiment, this movie is probably the closest to the real thing. So many lines and scenes are from what they did and said in the video footage of the experiment.
This reminds me of Thomas Blass' excellent book, "The Man who Shocked the World: the Life & Legacy of Stanley Milgram". If anyone does not know who Stanley Milgram is or doesn't know about his controversial study and experiments on human behaviour, it will be an eye opener.
I have not read this book, but I have seen a movie and documentaries about the Milgram experiment. It’s very interesting and it made me understand that literally anybody, not just psychopaths or monsters, can commit atrocities under some circumstances.
I learned about the Zimbardo experiment in my AP psych class. That's scary how people can just start taking on other roles and how their mind can alternate

The Das Expiriment movie is based on the book Black Box and the book is based on the SPE.
The movie is pretty accurate to the the real events. Maybe this one will have more details i don't know, but Das Expiriment is a very good example of the SPE.(sorry if my english are bad)

i didnt read the book, but i watched the das experiment movie. its a great movie, but the only thing that that movie and the actual SPE had in common was the premise. there were no deaths in the SPE and things never went as crazy as in the movie. if you think that the movie is in any way representative of the actual events, i recommend you the book "the lucifer-effect" by zimbardo himself (who conducted the experiment), where he gives a detailed account of the happenings in the SPE, together with a basic psychological analysis and a comparison to the events in the abu ghraib case; it also touches on other studys like the milgram-experiment. this movie here on the other hand (at least from what i can see in the trailer) seems much closer to the actual study
They can still go home. Only people that know that sinking feeling that they’re not going anywhere can truly understand. When you’re lying there on a 2 inch mat on a cement slab at 2am after a day of walls, madness, violence and monotony you can understand.

Movie was great. I like how it exposed the sadistic nature of the ones in charge of these type of experiments. Reminds me to stay far away from these type of weirdos that need to experiment cuz they lack common sense and humanity. 🙄
I dont mind a remake of a remake of a remake of a film, only as long as the actual remake surpasses the original, or takes a completely fresh look at it from a contemporary/cultural view.
Now we need a film about the Mouse Utopia Experiment by John Calhoun, It would be done by Pixar, like Ratatouille but with sex and drugs.

I love Ezra Miller and Keir Gilchrist. Two of my favorite actors of my age group. Honestly though, i feel like i have seen this before with the German thriller Das Experiment based on the Standford Experiment. I hope that its as accurate as the book was based on the actual events. I wouldnt want them fudging things up just for the sake of awards. I've seen some of the actual footage and ive read so many of the testimonials and reports. It better be good damnit.

Most of the 'prisoners' interviewed since the experiment took place have said they didn't experience any long term psychological effects as a result of the experiment and don't hold any grudges against Zimbardo or the 'guards', and I haven't seen any reports of a prisoner attempting to harm one of the guards once the experiment ended, so I think it's safe to say most of the people involved just moved on with there lives afterwards.

Just watched this for the first time a couple days ago and it was a very hard watch. It is crazy how fast these young men submitted to oppression and just accepted it. They didn't just get up and leave knowing this shit was fake!
