this may be the best documentary ive seen so far, magical, accurate, absolutely brilliant, THANKU. Lovesexy always had a special place in my heart and life, ..now i understand why.
Red Hot Chili Peppers frontman Anthony Kiedis, Prince and a few others took/did ecstasy at a nightclub in Los Angeles, which was also an inspiration for Princes Black Album.
To Nelson George: when Prince said "that skinny MFker with the high voice", he was referring to himself, not you. Listen to the context of the sentence. He was CLEARLY making fun of himself. Otherwise, great job again.
You keep giving us more Goodies! Can't wait to finish making dinner to sit down, relax go to my room so I can have my alone time and watch this! Your channel gives me something to look forward to!💜
It's one thing to hear about this stuff through rumors but another thing to hear it from the actual people. Side notes: The club where Prince danced with Cindy Crawford, Nell's, was the same spot where he did an after party the same night I saw the Lovesexy Tour at MSG a year or so later. Then I was thrown a birthday party at the same club in 94. Same year that The Black Album was finally released. Crazy, right? I wasn't able to go to the after party but I'd heard about it. My cousin went to an after party of Prince's the night before at Roseland.
I met prince in Nells at my second after show during the lovesexy tour here in NYC/ literally shook my hand after the set while he was eating his French fries and talking with Nell / I had my bootleg black album cassette in My pocket & too watch prince Diddy bop out the club was a trip / if he didn't have on his turquoise pants and boots you wouldn't have known it was him !!!
The work that goes into putting these videos together is greatly appreciated and should be elevated and shared with a larger audience. I can visualize a larger network featuring your videos on their channels/streaming platforms (Not just RUclips). Great job. Thank you.
Bigchick had a genuine love for prince more than folks realize not just total "yes" wich prince needed Chick was instrumental in helping prince and his father reconcil thier past !!!

LoveSexy and the Black albums are among my favorites, as is SOTT. I respected Prince's religious views, but when it got in the way of his artistry I hated it. I mean, even when he became a JW it bothered me because he wouldn't play some of his celebrated songs due to those new convictions. I loved his rauchy material, just as much as I loved the spiritual. I supposed that's why I loved both LoveSexy and the Black Album. LoveSexy, was spiritual, but when he said, "If I come back as a woman, want a body like yours, a body like yours". That was Sexy! That was all about sex and love. He knew how to bring it all together. The Black Album stays playing in my car's CD player. I love all of it! Especially, that seque about Cat's shoes, Maurice and squirrel meat. I still laugh at it. I miss him, but I missed him before he passed away. AOA made it better when it came out in 2014 because it didn't seem like he held the views of the JWs anymore. Then he was gone. I miss him because no one in music could do it like he could! I am blessed to have seen his career from beginning to end. Still, new music to come though. I'm so thankful for Prince Rogers Nelson...forever!
I loved both but I admitt "lovesexy" always felt a bit rushed like he waa trying to get away from something and just threw it out there / this piece ( excellent work sinnik) confirms what we we're hearing all along but jis turmoil over this Era / the black album still got the love from the klub djs & P collectors it was time to get back to the party streets & klubs !!!
@@ronpaizley9349 You have a point. Maybe I liked it because I had just left the JW religion that year and I was free to listen to it. I think it marked an era in time for me. Loved the album cover. Very risqué for the times.
I remember having the opportunity to get that album when it first came out in 87. The record store was selling it for either $30 or $50 bucks. I was being cheap and decided not to get it. BIG MISTAKE.
I'd bet after the record execs made him trim SOTT from 3 to 2 is when he started thinking more about ways to get away from that machine. Suits making artistic decisions = less art in all forms & its expression is muted.
The first bit of text/voiceover is so ironic & sad because he thought the death of his son was somehow God punishing him for of his sexually explicit music from the past which led him into the whole Jehova witness garbage. You don't need religion in your life to be a "good" person. It is all based on fear, guilt and shame.
Now i know i was young but how did i get a copy of black album in the 80s? Wow it was a bootleg ? Well i was naive or just without the internet so much we didnt know back in the day.
I think he was high during the LoveSexy tour....very emotional playing and a very Transgender look. For me not his greatest shows....freaked me out back then. It's normal now.
I do believe it now especially after this piece & He did reffer to being offered X on the batman opening track "the future" 🤔 & Morris's confirmed about the mushrooms they took so hey
I'm still confused / Prince never had the Hiphop youth / as much as I love Mike & Prince in the 80 / the eccentric & androgynous never had the average street kid especially the males hiphop provided a whole void missing that spoke directly to that audience in a harder more aggressive style & image the average kid can get into without feeling thier masculinity/sexual and even thier colour Identitys compromised / again don't shoot the messenger I loved and dug all the music back then but there was a backlash against the images of our king and Prince /
Love sexy tour was prince best concert. 3hrs 20 minutes. It was nonstop music. Prince released if I was your girl friend. That song killed the momentum of the album and he never got it back. Sign of the times. Prince should make the music but not pick the singles because likes no commercial songs. The first 4 songs off a album should be commercial hits. It’s business.😮
Prince was always limited by his vocal ability and his refusal to collaborate with other artist in part because of his ego and his insecurities about his limited vocal ability- Falsetto doesn't work live
I feel like this era was heavily influenced by Bad coming out. Bad did really well & went on for 2 good years. Mean while Prince had ditched his band & couldn't properly respond. It sounded like he was panicking artistically to stay big on the Pop charts. So as not to be eclipsed by MJ. And appear absent. The void of the band was evident. Lovesexy is the only album I side eye by P. It sounds like he was tripping. That off sound worked well for a movie sound track, Batdance but he was still off his horse. Graffiti Bridge is the same way...he got it off due to the movie. The best track there was by the Time. "Thieves In the Temple" was goofy. It wasn't until D&P that he got his new sound figured out. Meanwhile Micheal dropped one album to cover those same years. That had to be on P's mind.
Prince didn't care about the "pop charts" He had just released his second double album Sign o the Times, which was considered commercial suicide by record company executives but it was and still is considered his best album. His Sign o the Times/Lovesexy live band is still considered his best band in his career. He didn't give a fuck about Michael Jackson. Prince refused to do the song Bad as a duet with Michael Jackson. The Black album wasn't supposed to be a Prince album. Like the aborted Camille album it was just supposed to be slipped out into the public with no press or marketing. You might not like Lovesexy, but it is one of the most popular albums people on the Prince reddit site would like to be remastered for a super deluxe edition. BTW , all The Time songs are actually just Prince on all instruments with Morris replacing Prince's guide vocals. Comparing Prince with Michael Jackson is ridiculous, they are 2 completely different artists in every aspect. Michael Jackson was a performer & entertainer. Prince was a performer, entertainer, songwriter, producer, arranger and multi instrumental musician. There is no comparison.
Any moderately knowledgeable respector of Prince's music knew that his days of caring about the pop charts ended after 1999/Purple Rain era (late 1984ish) Around The World In A Day and Parade are both good albums, but neither are very "pop chart friendly". Sign ☮ The Times is one of the greatest albums ever made and better than any album from Michael Jackson, but SOTT isn't a chart friendly record either.
@@brianinglis3805 but there was a competition like it or not and the second half of the 80s was up for grab / BAD had the pressure of life on it Mike's PR team pulled the big guns out tour video's etc...// it was an event more than just an Album // Prince had to compete that year like it or not the public perception and record company number$$ can make or break an artist career / "sighn o the Times" was a FUNKIER album than BAD but the market wanted a PR 2 (commercial) from Prince that still never happened !!! hiphop filled a void & appeall neither had / that's why it would come to dominated late 80s into the 90s charts
Your comment will be met with pretentious responses and “anti-Michael” sentiments lol. You are probably correct. Artist that are in the music “business” care about acceptance. So if someone thinks artist don’t care about chart success or awards, and critiques then they’re probably being a little delusional. It’s a business. He had experienced the highest of highs before. The truth is probably all these things were in his mind, so I tend to agree.
@@VeraciousMind I'm just saying Thriller came out at the same time as 1999 & that sort of pointed them at each other as artists. They were both going after the same teenagers...so they had to keep an eye on each other.
