This amazing performance of “17 Days” was captured on April 28, 2011 at The Forum in Inglewood, CA. The fan favorite was originally released as the B-side to “When Doves Cry” and Prince performs it here with his 2011-era lineup of the New Power Generation, including Shelby J., Liv Warfield, Elisa Fiorillo, and Morris Hayes, additional keyboardists Renato Neto and Cassandra O’Neal, bassist Ida Nielsen, drummer John Blackwell, and dancers Maya and Nandy McClean (The Twinz). The song includes a fun segue into the band covering Teena Marie’s “Lovergirl” from her 1984 album Starchild. The complete performance of this live concert is included in the Deluxe Edition of Welcome 2 America, the highly anticipated first full complete album released from Prince’s legendary Paisley Park vault. Recorded in the spring of 2010 and then mysteriously archived by Prince, the statement album documents Prince’s concerns, hopes, and visions for a shifting society, presciently foreshadowing an era of political division, disinformation, and a renewed fight for racial justice.
The Deluxe Edition includes the complete studio vault album on both CD and black vinyl (accompanied with a hi-res digital download). The black vinyl edition will have music on three sides and a collectible etching on the fourth side. The live concert video, presented in 1080p HD with stereo, 5.1 surround and Dolby Atmos audio, was captured midway through his legendary marathon “21 Nite Stand” at The Forum and this performance documents the spontaneity and incendiary energy of that historic portion of the Welcome 2 America Tour - an audiovisual testament to the proclamation he made at the launch of the tour in October, 2010, stating “Bring friends, bring Ur children, and bring foot spray, because… it’s gonna B funky.”
Besides “17 Days,” the performance features covers of Bob Dylan’s “Make You Feel My Love,” Janet Jackson’s “What Have You Done For Me Lately” and Roxy Music’s “More Than This” alongside Prince favorites including “Controversy,” “1999,” “Purple Rain” and many more. The Deluxe Edition of Welcome 2 America will be presented as a luxe gold-foil package designed by GRAMMY-nominated artist Mathieu Bitton and GRAMMY-nominated creative director and Prince associate Trevor Guy, complete with a 12”x12” 32-page companion book and embossed vellum envelope containing exclusive Welcome 2 America era ephemera (photographic art print, 23”x36” poster, replica setlist, ticket, VIP invitation and backstage passes). Experienced as a complete package, the Deluxe Edition provides a multidimensional and immersive view of Prince’s creative genius during his spontaneous, energetic, and thought-provoking Welcome 2 America era.

Absolutely the best artist ever born
Agree
No doubt! 💜
Yes!!
Without question
Absolutely
R.I.P. John Blackwell Jr, best live drummer from his generation.
Been a Prince fan since ‘78. The crazy thing about Prince was that he was a bada$$ out the gate with his music & showmanship and continued to get better and better until the very end. The collection of concerts over the course of the last decade of his life I’ve seen on RUclips are masterclasses of perfection. A master and certainly transcendent. One of the greats and very best.
100% agree with you.
The question of you and the one no other musicians ever like prince was pure class with a beautiful soul 💜
Prince is the most creative, fantastic and complete musician that ever lived.
Frank Zappa was his league. no doubt
Fantastic performance! His B sides are better than most of the filler that showed up on other artists albums !
@Tony Receipts please. Where was this sampling?
Ô louco, bicho. Acha mesmo?
Paul McCartney...
This is exactly why he was, is and always will be, 'the best! Simple. What a banging version of a brilliant track! A 'B' side!! Really!? His 'b' sides are other artists dreams!
Exactly! His b sides were high quality. Check out she's always in my hair!
Exactly!
Seriously
I'm gonna throw 'Erotic City' in there as another great 'B' side! One of my favs.
As are Tom Petty's!! They were musical geniuses.
that bass tone is out of this world
This is what a real musician looks like 💯
I couldn't agree more bro!
Absolutely 💜💜💜💯💯💯💯💯💯
Im 18 wish i had these type of music in my generation.
Love the shout out to Teena Marie- Lover Girl!!
Amazing!! 💜💜💜💜
May 2024 and this still blows my mind...dude was truly "One of One. 🐐
have you listened to Houdini by Dua lips? It reminds me so much of 17 days.
The brother is around 53 here.. not 40, not 32. 53. Go ahead and let that sink in. Dude was music personified.
He looks like 27
Very classy way 2 honor Teena Marie. Much respect.
Prince has the most special and unique relationship with his fans. Its too funky and spiritual to even put in to words. The world needs Prince.
I hear there is enough material in The Vault to release unheard music in album form, one album a year until the year 3000!
I honestly hope they release more than one a year, don't think i'll live till the year 3k!
He’s been my only constant for the last 35 years ...
@@marcusodell8811 me too. And this has been my jam for a very long time. Never seen this before..and really love'n every second. I may have watched this a few more times since yesterday lol.
Yes we do❤️
not sure he cares that much about the fans, he cares bout the music.
The main drag is we cannot ever witness his greatness live again. So grateful I got to experience his exceptional talent live in my lifetime 💜💜💜💜💜
❤who says! Pray hard and maybe your wish will come true! 🙏love ya Prince and we Need you now
I think the MAIN drag is that the guy is actually dead...
We at least have this to remember and revere him by.
I love u so much for making this comment lol.
Prince left his Imprint on this universal plane.. He is loved on this earth and that keeps him anchored to us still. 😂
❤😢
The guitar in here is deadly! What a gift for us all to see. 👍🏾
John Blackwell, we miss you man. Those fills are soooo tasty. Love from England x
"The" drummer for Prince.
And the shout out to Teena Marie, this man is a legend…..
One of the most beautiful pieces of guitar playing I’ve ever heard .
Real music by real musicians = mission statement
This legend had more soul in his pinky finger than 99% have in their entire body. 💜
We sure could use him, Tom Petty, John Prine, and a few others we have lost in the last three years. We need amazing new music to get through this thing they call life!! ✌💞
Some are here still - curious if they return to performing - hold on for ride💯🙏✌️💜💙🇺🇸
kbm o b . .l.l. .l lll.. l llllll. lllllllllm ohnuuuimmmmn f
This Version is fire 😎🙌
This is just next level . RIP John Blackwell , PRINCE . What a groove.
There ain't a musician on the planet that could fuck with Prince. The next level after Prince is Heaven. I know the Lord Has a band in Heaven that will Rock The House and now Prince is Leading that band.
OH HOW I IMAGINE THAT ‼️ YAS-SSS INDEEEDY I CAN ‼️🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾
@druscillalee2183 Thatz a show that is STANDIN ROOM ONLY......
What a ridiculous thing to say: there are countless wonderful musicians on this earth you won’t even know exist because you have never listened to them.
Just say you like Prince. Don’t pretend you know who is a great musician
@@christophervaughan2637 A mind is a terrible thing to waste. What a shame. 🤣🤣
@@shaservI am supposed to look up to your mind when you don’t address the obvious point that you don’t even know most of the great musicians on the planet and make a judgment of cultural preference as if it’s a fact?
Even then please tell us what makes Prince the greatest musician? Can you even explain that?
Damn, he looks sharp, whole production was on point
And that, is how live performance is done.
He wasn't just Prince...he was a king
This is actually an extremely rare performance of this song. He SELDOMLY played it in concert and very rarely with the second verse. As a matter of fact, this was the first complete version since at least ‘85. He performed partial renditions on the ‘86 “Parade” tour as well as extremely rare renditions on the short “Love 4 One Another Charities Tour” in ‘97 which served as a test gig for the larger “Jam Of The Year Tour” which launched later that year. I had a soundboard recording of this show and a few others from this era on my page a few years back before the RUclips police snatched them down. 🙄 🤦🏾♂️ You may remember. But anyway, this is why this tour is #2 for me right after “Lovesexy” because of not only the unparalleled musicianship and attention to detail by the band, but also because of the MASSIVE setlist range. He was so spontaneous during this era, you NEVER knew WHAT he was gonna do next! Sometimes three or four encores! And his band churned out funky renditions of his classics that were strikingly similar to the original recordings but somehow totally FRESH! This performance paired with rare performances of “Gold” “The Beautiful Ones” or “Adore” from this era shows the great attention to detail this incarnation of the NPG was capable of. And that’s why I consider them to be perhaps the best band that he ever played with. He IS the absolute greatest. 💜
I feel you...I was like 17 days?...and a 8 minute plus version? I knew it must be special and it was!
He put it in the acoustic set during one of the Musicology shows in ‘04 too.
@@suzeesix He sure did! In Detroit!
@@cstianlew406 It sure was! An eight full version at this stage in his career was SOOO rare! I can remember how my jaw just dropped I was SO surprised!
He didn’t do gold that much in concert?, what a great song that was also, he is missed RIP…
☔Let the rain come down☔
#princeforever
It was pouring rain the day Prince died, when the ambulance arrived at PP the rain was coming down hard💦 💦 #PurplerRain ☔️
« Real music by real musicians » thank you Prince. Exactly the reason why I play. No backing tracks world…
In complete command of the stage and his band every second of every show.
Putting all his genius aside, his shows are definately a participation gig. Everyone is in the band.
Legends Never die🐐🐐🐐
This is why I'm an undying Prince fan. True Prince essence.
17 Days is my all-time favorite Prince song, so a little admitted bias with this video. One of the best things about going to a Prince concert was that everyone felt welcome and involved. I love how he musically supports, gives credit, and allows the spotlight to shine on all of the real musicians that support him in making this concert more than amazing -- he even gives thanks to the audience, who he uses as an instrument. Amazing talent, amazing lyrics, amazing music, amazing experience. Thank you Prince!
Well said Lori and so true...
Exactly!!! And that's what TRUE Legends Do!!!
REAL MUSIC BY REAL MUSICIANS 💜💜💜
He wasn’t all about himself. Love how he always gave props to his gifted musicians.
That was superb! RIP Teena Marie. RIP Prince. 😢💜💜💜💜💜Purple hearts aren't just for soldiers.
Don't forget Mr John Blackwell. RIP
@@Eijzman you are so right! I often forget that John is gone, too! Mr. Blackwell was a beast on them skins!
Indeed I love all three. I saw The Vanilla Child a year b4 we lost her. Saw Prince 3 times and at two of those times, Blackwell was the drummer. I also saw him playing drums with Cameo, he was a beast!!!!
Well, it has been 5 years; still feels like yesterday. ⛈⛈☔️
I was thinking the same thing!
Amen
2011 was 10 years ago
@@Dahmer_Jeff ….. i think he means it’s been 5 yrs since our dear Prince passed. The more I think about it, it sure seems very strange the way that happened and it seems fishy. Prince did not do drugs and everyone has just accepted this explanation and moved on. I am starting to think something malicious happened and the detectives just didn’t probe enough to get the real story. I didn’t think this early on but now, after reading about it, I am doubting the story. We need to find out what really happened. Someone knows. I’m sure Kirk Johnson knows).
😞💔
God damn why didn’t I see this man live when I had the chance. He had the best musical mind ever. Like the best musician of all time. Change my mind.
It’s a little too late to change your mind to see him live now, unfortunately. 😉
But, if it’s any consolation… even pumping this through Dolby digital surround sound and streaming it on a 100 inch 8k screen, STILL doesn’t compare to a live performance.
The camera isn’t capable of capturing the dynamic energy that flowed from this man. He was the BEST.
The best thing about seeing Prince back in the day, was that You could buy front row or almost front row through sheer determination. Just be first in line at a Ticketmaster. This usually meant going there around 9pm and “camping out” overnight until the next morning when ticket sales started at 10am. You brought a blanket and parked your bum on the sidewalk outside the door. And the kicker? The front rows tickets were the same price as any main floor. I paid about $80/ticket
dude is so OP hes performing, directing and producing in real time.
The greatest that ever lived. The world has gone to shit since he left. He spread so much love and positivity in his lifetime and will be missed for decades to come.
Wow so true 👍
for real...I agree with you wholeheartedly...the world has been way off since he left us...sigh...but I am glad he's not here to witness the craziness
The world has always been off. I mean, remember 9/11 occurred in 2001. He was alive then. We also had two world wars before he was born, so please be more realistic.
Tears.😭😭😭🕊🕊🕊
Agree 👍💜👍💜
He always had tons of respect for and honored his colleagues, RIP Teena Marie and Prince 💜
Beautifully said! ✌💞
And a shout-out to Mint Condition! 💜✨
🙏💜💜💜💜💜💜
He did. After Michael Jackson passed, Prince blended in Shake Your Body Down To The Ground into one of his jams. Can't recall which one. There will NEVER be another Prince! A modern day Mozart. And, that's the problem with today's so called "talent." They and what passes for their music, are completely disposable. Prince, Hendrix, James Brown, Michael Jackson, Otis Redding, David Bowie, Chuck Berry, Aretha, Marvin Gaye, John Lennon, Billie Holiday, Sammy Davis Jr., Little Richard were one-a-kind, once in a lifetime, immortal, irreplaceable artists.
@@floydthompson9332 ….. Prince perfectly blended “Shake your body down to the Ground” with his song “Mountains”. Also, he put a “Don’t stop til you get Enough” verse right in the middle of his song “C O O L” …. and then he pointed up to the heavens (for Michael).
I watch this everyday. This is greatness.
Love the way he let his band members shine.
This is one of my favorite songs by him 🤧😆👍
Mine too!☔️
Always one of my favorites, love how he incorporated 'Lovergirl' into '17 Days'...#TheGeniusOfPrince
😭😭😭🕊🕊🕊
Mine,Too!!!! 💃
Same here
He was the best! Long live Prince!
Those shows were amazing. I went to about 5 of them. $25, and after show if you waited until most had left, Prince would come out and play several more songs
There is nobody like Prince; he's truly one in a million! The Greatest Artist Of ALL TIME!
Clips like this is why Prince had & still has the fans he has. How can you not love this and not want to be a part of this funk?! The world is a lot emptier without Prince and this video is an example of this. 💜
🙌
Spot on !
Amen too that 💜👏🙌
His decision to block everything on RUclips wasn't the best decision. I almost forget how great he was.
I have to listen to Prince every day!! He was such a gift to us!! This performance is everything right now!! Rest in heaven sweet Prince xoxo xoxo
Yes. This video clearly shows how much he loved doing what he did.
I'm nearing 55 and have been with Prince since 78, I will die playing my Jams....L41A....Clap Ur hands Stomp Ur Feet! :)
Same 💜 he's been in my life since I was 12 yrs old in 1978 and I'll be 55 this December. It's because of his life, love, music that I'm here today. Prince got me thru some very difficult times, it is his music that heals the spirit and embraces you with truth. He lives on with each beat of my grateful heart💜
For me, from the 1st time I heard "I wanna be your lover" on Kasey Kasems American Top 40 Countdown but I lived in Europe then, so that was super early compared to the rest of the continent.
Ida on bass and she’s killing it. He played with only the finest musicians
How did Rolling Stone NOT rank him in the top 20, greatest guitarists of all time? Prince is playing a Stratocaster here. Dude is just so versatile with this one instrument… but a master at so many others.
Even though they didn't, his playing skills speaks for itself undeniably !!! Non could ever touch prince or even get close !!
VERY BEST PRINCEWAY !
Money
The rolling stones are not even competent to be ranking guitarists, I doubt they know what a guitar string even is.
A strat with a Floyd Rose setup. Nice rig.
That Groove. That Pocket. Can’t believe Prince and John are gone. …mann I could feel the energy through the screen of my IPad. #TappedIn #LockedIn
Real music by real musicians. He knew what was going on.
Facts. I’m sick of computer beats and auto tune. Computers have their place, but they can’t replace real instrumental work
"Real music by real musicians"....Real entertainment by a real entertainer! Prince just put on a clinic on how to give people entertainment value for their hard earned money. The people in this crowd will NEVER forget seeing Prince at this concert.
for sure. I was there with my mom and aunties. won't ever forget it.
I will never forget the two Prince concerts I attended and greatly enjoyed 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
Real music by real musicians and family entertainment ❤🎉❤🎉❤🎉
Prince is ALL THAT🎉🎉🎉🎉
His guitar playing is astonishing
I LOVE this so much. My heart is still bleeding...
Still till this day my love for PRINCE will never fade. 💜💜🎵🎤
I was there and was healed through the Holy Spirit of Music. I had checked myself out of a spine surgery aftercare Centre and get myself to THIS FUNKY MUNKY. My main man - King Prince Rodgers Nelson. I am now healed and singing stronger than ever!
It's amazing music is a thread
A thread with many colors .
Hard to believe. The talent was endless. Prince had so much more to share. RIP
Prince Rocks! As Sir Elton John said "He simply blows everyone else out of the water"! Prince 4ever love!
I absolutely love this version
The best band leader of some of the baddest bands to do it. R.I.P. Jon Blackwell. R.I.P. PRN. #NPG
Pure nectar. All the medicine I ever needed was Prince music💜
Nobody will ever come close to his genius! 💜
100% true! Prince is, was & 4ever will B the most talented & most complete Musician & Artist of all time! ... O(+> 💜 4ever
The B-side to When Doves Cry....One of my favorites...Prince Y'all!...🎼🎶💜💜💜💜💜🤗
This explains WHY Prince is the best electric guitarist of them all.
I got chills! Real Music! Real Musicians! RIP Prince "The Purple One" and Teena Marie "Lady Tee, Vanilla Child"!!! 💜💜
Can’t get enough of this concert! The quality and sound is amazing, especially in Dolby
Break off the auto-repeat button! Prince just knew how. “Real music, real musicians”
I don't think Mr Nelson came with a repeat button to break off.every time he does a track live something is done different.
You are 100% correct about that! My point was I could just hit auto-repeat and watch this clip over and over.
@@ellisacklin514 Me too!
Not the kid stuff.
If you want to see what made Prince special just watch him 5:40-6:28 in this video. His rhythm guitar playing was unreal. This chord progression is Gm to F to Gm/Eb to F and back to Gm. This progression is not easy to do and he's not only playing it, but he's adding funk to it WHILE HE'S TALKING. He makes it look effortless, but there's very few people on the planet that can play like that and talk or sing at the same time. We often hear "there'll never be another" and Prince is in that category. What a joy he was to watch and listen to!
Muscle memory - guitar is a lot easier than it looks.
@Dr. Darkroom Cool bro, post a video of you performing it.
I'll wait .
@@dr.darkroom I tried to learn how to play guitar and I found it hard. I even took lessons and I ran out of patience.
His guitar playing was too cold at that part. Definition of a pimp and badass.
Prince is the best electric guitar player of them all, I love them all (I play electric guitar since i was 12) Page, Beck, Santana, Clapton, Hazel, Eddie VH, DeMartini, Jimi, SRV, Iommi, Rhoads, but Prince is the pinnacle nobody play like him: so much soul, an outstanding tone (just unreal!), perfect picking (always clean notes), the phrasing is out of this world, the use of effects is always into the music he play, best electric guitar player ever, no discussion allowed.
That is what I call a SHOW brothers and sisters!!!!!!
Everything sounded and looked perfect. No wonder they saud he is a perfectionist!
He WASNT a perfectionist..that's the point
genius. no doubt
Prince was absolutely NOT a perfectionist. You're misinformed.
He loved what he did. When a person loves what they do, this is what it look like!
@@jonylawson73 Exactly. He wasn’t. He worked his ass off though. And it shows.
Boy do i miss his presence, love watching him live. He sounded even better live.🎤🎸Aww he homage to Teena Marie💔 just hearing him say the words R.I.P. Teena Marie.... who knew some years later we would be paying homage to him in every possible way. R.I.P. Prince👑💜
Said a mouthful
The Maestro at work!!! He had all his bands lined UP. Wish I'd been there!
EPIC!! He's truly missed.
One of the great showmen of my time🙏🏿🙏🏿.
I miss you Prince. I get too emotional watching this. A beautiful soul. I didn't cope well when he died. He meant so much to me.
You are not alone ….omwille never get over His passing
Luckily He Left us with so many Masterpieces to enjoy until it’s our time to leave this earth and we can go party with Him ….
There will NEVA be another like him. Nobody even close these days. This new generation does not know what we lost.
Leave it to prince to sound even BETTER live 😩😩😩🙌🏽🙌🏽🙌🏽
I truly miss prince .. this world and time is lost without him ..the greatest to ever walked the Earth in music ..I'm a fan for life since For You in 1978
One of the best moments during this performance was him smiling while singing it. I hope good memories came across his mind during this performance🥺
The best entertainer, one of the best performers, best songwriters, best guitarists, best singers, best band leaders, one of the very best!
Damn straight. In Play that funky music, when he sez Can I Play My Guitar, for the nxt 5 mins,Im in heaven.
Funny that this is the song that made me fall in love with PRINCE!
This was a B side. Dude was as prolific as The Beatles, both sides are hits.
My all time favorite song and Mountains. Shout out to him to give the gifted Teena Marie her honor. I love this man to death 1️⃣7️⃣DAYS!!! 💜🙏🏾
When P. left dealing with Rick James, He, in a few months HEADLINED a short tour with Teena, opening for Him to promote Her '79 debut record.
This has to be THE best live version of this song ever performed.
This nearly made me cry at the end when it was just Prince playing the guitar as everyone's chanting "let the rain come down, let the rain come down, down"
Love the tribute to Teena Marie 🙌
Watching this brings back memories of seeing him live (3x) and how fun that experience was every time. Let the [purple] rain come down 💜💜💜💜
My favorite Prince track of all time, and it's a 'B' side! 🔥🎶💜
Real music by real musicians...💯
This is exactly what makes him the best live performer of all times! Stretching a song for minutes, funky jamming, I just could watch and listen endlessly! So happy that I managed to see hin perform live a few times here in Europe. Rest in Peace, Prince. And now, on the one....
I was blessed 2 see Him 13 times each time He came 2 Belgium…
He is in place of His own when it comes 2 live concerts
