He is way too good for such low quality songs. Ariel in the Animated Original was love sick, head strong, and determined. Ariel in the Live Version is self-centered, obsessed with material things, and willing to abandon her family, coherence a boy to fall in love with her, and risk serious consequences just so she could go live on land and collect more human stuff.
They actually merged this with Fathoms Below that now happens later in the film when Ariel first sees Eric on the ship. I think it was done rather well, the ship looked very majestic during this opening melody.

The point is we all have our trash movies we like. My reasons for calling the "Live" Action Mermaid trash: 1 CGI is crap 2 Mermaid no longer loves Eric instantly. She is more obsessed with the items humans make than Eric. 3 Eric and Ariel do not get married. Ariel turns he back on her family and risks their lives all just so she can live a life on the surface and, in the end, decides that she "might" marry Eric in the future... maybe... right now, just get engaged. 4 Instead of Eric killing Ursula, it is Ariel. 5 Since Eric did not save Ariel, kill Ursula, or really do much, King Triton has no real reason to like it trust him. 6 Since Ariel is not in love with Prince Eric, this makes the actions of both Ariel and Triton make no sense. If Ariel just wants to collect human things, she doesn't need to make a deal that requires her to kiss a stranger. King Triton's actions in Ariel's grotto seem even more asinine. 7 The "Live" Action Mermaid adds nothing new to the story. It pales in comparison to the original (most of the top critics even agree with that). If both stories are an option, it makes more sense to just go with the Animated Original. I could go on, but honestly, the new version is just very nihilistic, selfish, and self-centered. The father daughter story arc is trashed, the romance arc is reduced, and the overall story suffers. Honestly, Shad from Knights Watch does a better comprehensive explanation. There are at least 20 points of contention I have with the film, and this reply is already a wall'o'text.
