This is definitely a "hunting horn" as well. It´s sort of a parforce horn in Eb / B It has a valve mainly used for higher notes like F. In some pieces B is required instead of Bb The original french parforcehorn has no valve and is also used to play melodies like this one in concert. Usualy the tube is wound 3 1/2 times. Here it´s only 2 1/2. This was ment for the musicians to carry this horn around their upper body when riding horses. The Fürst Pless horn is used for the actual huntingsignals.

Ich möchte mir auch ein kleines B-Jagdhorn zulegen, aber ich hätte da eine Frage: Kann man all diese Jagdhornmelodien (Bock tod, Halali, etc.) mit einem Horn spielen, ohne Begleitung? Wenn ich nämlich mit meiner Trompete das hier vorgeführte Stück nachspiele, muss ich an einer Stelle ein Ventil benutzen und mit einem Horn geht das nicht. (Hat ja auch keine Ventile... tja^^)
Bach heard it already... Think about the first Brandenburg Concerto... and many other works of him. And Haydn, Mozart, Beethoven, Weber, Schubert, Schumann, Brahms... the sound of horns is a very fundamental topic in German music.
