    I’m honestly amazed at how afraid people are of cameras that aren’t full frame. My favorite cameras to shoot on are the F55 and FS5 (both s35) with the F55 still having more latitude and better highlight recovery vs the FX9. So I’m very excited to upgrade my a7iii to the FX30, a full size HDMI port and the ability to burn LUTS into footage are my favorite features I’m looking forward to!

      I could >theoretically< see it being a minor concern for people who are already invested into full frame and don't want to "waste" their lenses on a camera that can't utilize their full capabilities, especially if wide-angle is more important than telephoto.
      ...that's all I got, honestly. S35 is a great, time-tested format and this thing is going to be an absolute beast for the price.
      EDIT: oh, I suppose the FX3 still makes more sense if you're doing a lot of work in low-light environments. Events and such can be incredibly unforgiving and you can just crank the ISO on that thing without a care in the world. This isn't going to match that performance, though I'm sure it'll still do extremely well in low light since that seems to be a huge priority for Sony in general.

      Low light,low light
      Or bokeh,bokeh
      My first camera was a Panasonic and i don't see no difference in low light or bokeh beween m4/3 aps-c and FF
      I don't film 24 hours the stars
      What your gonna film that 5 percent more low light or bokeh is so important?
      For vlogging i can anderstand a aps-c or a FF is better then m4/3 bucauese of wide view
      Most of the time people don't know what they talking about.
      Even cinema cameras with they making night docu. are shot with aps-c sensors
      How many Hollywood cameras they use in big productions are shot with FF cameras?
      It's all big company's selling tactics
      They have many people there that company's pay big money to "let it shine"
      Why all the FF cameras have aps-c in them you think?
      Foto's are good with FF not film

    Great video, and fantastic image from your A7IV here. Most of it is great 4K and fine color grading though... I'm sure you'd had a great image with any other camera. That aside, it seems I'm gonna be saving some serious buck buying the FX30. It came as a total surprise, at the end of a saving up cycle of this quarter, I was saving for more than a year to get the FX-3. The main reason is video work and to be honest, I'm not a cinematographer so the FX-3 seemed like a stretch of current need and more as an investment for the future when I upgrade my skills. This investment would drain out the banking account, so the FX30 came at the right moment. It's still a great investment for the future but it won't break the bank, and I'll be getting the top handle.
    The A7IV was an early option when I thought of upgrading the conferencing/live-streaming setup (2 A5100's, an A6400 and an A7III) but the A7III still takes fantastic stills, and I want to up my video game. Decision made 🙂

    Tough decision. I do mostly video work, occasionally photo. For me it comes down to full frame advantages vs. frame rate advantages. The fx30 is awesome for slomo shots (HD with 240 fps!), a higher dynamic range with the full frame sensor may be more important for outdoor and available light shooters, like documentary style. I have the a6600, i am very happy with its capabilities, but once you know, there's full frame, 10bit, 4k120 out there, you want it all! 😄

    I really love your videos. You have the best personality ever. I’m super biased because I love my A7IV and the video is literally magical. It would be really hard for me to go to a smaller sensor, especially when I’ve literally made RUclips videos at night and places along side, other craters, and was able to get magical. Great video, while they were not at all. However, I still really like this camera. It reminds me of a Panasonic, GH6 but one that can auto focus very well. On the other hand, the GH6 does seem to have way better image stabilization. I think it’s a little bit of a bummer that Sony didn’t use that extra space from the sensor for better ibis. If they did, this would be the ultimate creator camera. I don’t consider this camera professional, although it has a massive amount of professional features. But this would be more than good enough for typical online content. I wouldn’t be using it for weddings as a main camera because the lighting is so often not perfect. So I guess in summary, if this was a RUclips creator camera, it would be fantastic. But if I had to do any real professional work, I would have to get the FX3. Or stick to my current camera, the A7iv. As far as overheating. I’m in Thailand end. I usually leave the memory card in battery doors open and I haven’t had it overheat since I started doing that.

    Love your videos. Where is that 11x14 full color portrait of you coming? I have this hole in my wall that needs to be filled. Since you started out with the camera sensors, what do you know about the technology in the aps-c sensor? Are they getting better to the point where they rival full frame sensors of the same or nearly the same size?
    Being mostly a still photographer, I am aiming for the A7R5. Lined up a second job for my wife so I can afford that very expensive body.
    I see in the comments people ditching their little a6000 series of bodies. I say, keep them. Nice to have a tiny camera for those times you don't want a bulky camera hanging on your shoulder. Either the a6400 and 6600 are great quick and dirty video cameras. If I was to go into heavy video work, that FX30 would be on my list. I always thought you get the camera body that suits your work. The FX30, with its cooling fan, will be a Godsend to those who hate it when the camera shuts down due to excessive heat.
    I've read lots of reviews and opinions for many Sony cameras. That is why I am loving the A7R5, strictly for stills. It's not going to be the end all be all when it comes to video and that is where I would save $$$ for the FX30. Get the right camera for the job.

      That's a thought for sure - but it's still zooming digitally, so you won't be getting your full resolution. Still - that's a good idea if you want to switch back and for between 4k 120 and 24 without changing your field of view

    • @NathanBuildsRobots

      @@MarkBennettCameraCrisis I thought it did some kind of "clear image zoom" for up to 1.5x, where it is downscaling from 7k to 4k during normal shooting, but slowly reduces the recorded pixels until its a 4k to 4k readout, then does actual digital zoom where you are undersampling.
      I think that is how it works on my A7iv? But have not read the manual or pixel peeped enough to confirm my suspicion.

    I guess when it comes to price range i think the best competitor on this is the a7c. Im also torn between the two. And aswell the fx3. Though im not a pro videographer/cinematographer i still want something that i can grow into. In my place fx3 is around 15,000 and fx30 body w/ xlr mic converted price is around 8,000-9,000, the a7c + 24-70mm is 7,000 while zve10 with kit lens is 3,100. So yeah it's really that hard to decide which one. I do have a6600 so i have a couple of lens to use for fx30 but still full frame camera offers more. So im gonna wait for this guy to compare the footages of fx30, fx3, a7c and zve10. As what ive watch from other youtubers zve10 have horrible rolling shutter same with a6600 compared to the fx30 which has better rolling shutter. But for 2x the price between the fx30 is it reasonable? For me that mostly shoots in 1080p it wont affect me from rolling shutter. But in case my channel grows up i wanted to be ready for that aswell. So i wanted a camera that will last long. That i can maximize my investment out of it. Fx30 is still not out from where i am now but if they give a best freebies included in pre orders then maybe i will get the fx30. But until then im hoping the vloggers who were able to get a hold on these cameras to atleast compare them.

    Mark, I have the Sony A7IV and my favorite lens (and only one other than my Sony 200-600mm G for wildlife) the 24mm f1.4 GM. I have just pre-ordered the Sony FX30 to use more for video and now the two camera setup for my talking heads studio work. I am contemplating adding another lens or two. I used to have a number of Sony APS-C cameras (A6400, A6600, ZV-1, ZV-E10) and sold all of them (even sold my Sony A7C) because although I liked the weight reduction, I didn't like the grip/size of the APS-C. The images were fine, I seemed to be able to have enough light, and believe that full frame cameras are probably more likely to be in my future. However, with the new FX30 I am looking for lenses to add. I have seen a bunch of videos about people using the Sigma 18-50mm f2.8 (APS-C) and that is a possibility. I am thinking about the 35MM GM f1.4 and the Sigma 85mm f1.4 DGDN as my next full frame lens purchases though that would mostly be for the Sony A7IV. I wonder whether for smaller size as well as the use on both cameras, whether I would be better off with the Sony 35mm FE 1.8, Sony/Zeiss 55mm F1.8 and the Sony 85mm f1.8 (this would be cheaper!)???

    • @MarkBennettCameraCrisis

      I like the 35 1.8 a lot and the 85 1.8 because they are great values - the Zeiss 55 is great as well and those would work well on both. But that Sogma 85 is probably the best 85 you can buy. for the fx30 I would look at the sigma 16, 30, and 56 1.4’s. They are affordable and great, but you’d have to use them in apsc crop mode for the A7iv and that wouldn’t be ideal for photos.

      @@MarkBennettCameraCrisis oh great, I look forward to seeing the video. I do like the idea of having a more portable photo friendly option but if I had had the money I would have bought the FX3 so I wonder whether I’m just justifying my purchase to myself!
      It would be great if your comparison includes an overall cost estimate when you take into account lenses - my understanding is that APSC lenses are cheaper than full frame ones so the £700 odd saving I’ve made by buying the A7C (I bought a new grey import from eBay for £1355) means I can buy an extra lens at the beginning… but going forward maybe I’d be better off with the FX30 if I can pick up more great lenses cheaper?
      I was planning on slowly growing a full frame E mount lens collection starting with the sigma contemporary zooms… part of me is wondering whether getting the FX30 and a collection of primes would be better for me especially as my focus is filmmaking… but then that maybe means if I do want to get an FX3 or a future full frame camera my glass collection won’t be ideal? For about 5 seconds I thought about trading in my A7iv for the FX30. Crazy, right? Well, the FX30 can provide timecode for more professional projects. AND the FX30 can record 16-Bit RAW video externally. I think they may include BRAW export in the future, which would mean recording 12-bit raw video.
    I am keeping my A7iv. But, I am seriously trying to find ways to pick up the FX30. I think it would make a great B-cam for those two shots in a narrative project. Which is what I mostly focus on. Either way you slice it, the FX30 is a huge win for Sony. I have no doubt that the FX30 will be a huge seller.
    Additionally - even though it isn't a big issue with me - rolling shutter on the FX30 is a lot less than on the A7iv. But, as I've said in the past, with proper planning - and not rapidly whipping your camera left and right - you can avoid much of the problems caused by rolling shutter.

    Both the same price here atm. I am video guy, and currently have a6500 so I can use my Sigma lenes on Fx30. Fudge, I've never had full frame...so not sure which way 2 go.

      that is tough. for the same price, I would go with the A7iv, but I like photos. You can also use the sigma lenses in video on the A7iv in apsc crop mode (I do it all the time) but it is best to use l full frame lenses that optimize the cameras iq. but there’s no doubt th fx30 is a more fully features camera and the lenses are going to be less expensive than the A7iv. so overall your costs will likely be lower and you already have the a6500 for photos.

    Thank you, this is the exact comparison im struggling with. Currently shoot A7III (A cam), ZVE10, and ZV1 (B cam). I specifically got the ZVE10 so i could hold off on A7IV for another year, as i always try to snag cams at the $15-1700 range on used market, but im REALLY wanting to try those 10 bit colors. I do MOSTLY video, as i only use my cams for my channel primarily. But cant decide if im just a full frame snob? Something just keeps teling me to spend a few hundred more on the A7IV. I wont be able to keep my A7III either way, so i would like to have at least 1 full frame option. decisions.....

      It’s tough. But for me I lean the A7IV because it has everything I need. I don’t NEED raw or 4k120 really in my current workflow and I love photos and it is full frame which gives me more options. But it’s more expensive and you lose a few video specs. Tough!!

    FX30 is a far more powerful video camera than the A7iv. Main reason for that its controls and layout is made for video. Always surprising the focus on specs in these RUclips videos. In the field ergonomics are everything.

      oh that’s a great camera,and it beats the fx30 in lots of ways, but it’s less good in some ways as it’s more expensive and it doesn’t autofocus as well, doesn’t have gyro data or focus breathing compensation - so much to consider!!

    Actually the blur in FF and APSC are the same, what changes is the field of view! I just learned that! 🙂

    • @MarkBennettCameraCrisis
      @MarkBennettCameraCrisis  Год назад

      The depth of field is shallower on the same aperture and field of view on FF Vs apsc - which is why it’s blurrier. For example 24mm 1.4 on full frame will be blurrier than 16mm 1.4 on apsc. This is because of the larger aperture opening of the full frame lens over the full frame sensor. The light is the same, but the background separation (and blur) will be different even though the field of view would be roughly the same in my 24 f Vs 16 apsc example

    • @nyambe
      @nyambe Год назад

      @@MarkBennettCameraCrisis Actually if you put on a 35 1.4 on your A7IV on FF and switch it to APSC the blurriness will be the same. The subject however will be a lot closer. At same distance, same blur, different field of view. I know, it's mind blowing. I have to thank nVu Films for that insight.

    • @MarkBennettCameraCrisis
      @MarkBennettCameraCrisis  Год назад

      @@nyambe yes - for sure, but you really need to compare the same field of view. So a 24 mm field of view 1.4 on full frame will have a blurrier background than a 16 (for equivalence) at 1.4. In the video I should have clarified and said you will have a blurrier background at the same aperture with equivalent field of view. I’ll be sure to make the correction next time 👍

    • @dfusselman
      @dfusselman Год назад

      The crop on 120 frames per second is 1.6x so I imagine it's somewhat similar. The sensor readout speed makes that mandatory. A plus to a crop like that is less rolling shutter so if your subject is moving there will be less distortion. The main thing is that there's no line skipping or pixel binning so the image should be good.

    In my opinion if you’re a hybrid single camera shooter then choose a74. If you already use an fx3/a7siii as your Main Camera, choose fx30.
    With regards to video, for anything above 4k30 the a74 is basically a crop sensor camera anyway. And it doesn’t even give you the option for 4k120 (fx30 does with an extra crop). Fx30 has built in fans while some a74 camera struggle with overheating. I think if you’re mainly a videoshooter, the fx30 is a no-brainer as a Bcam over the a74
