Agreed. They don't even make many of these lines anymore.
Came for the cymbals stayed for the snare
I'm convinced that just about any Paiste cymbal can be used with any music genre if the cymbal is played appropriately..... This is one AWESOME video! Thanks and God Bless!!!
Alphas are perfect choice for all kind of metal/rock music! I have 18 and 16 alpha crashes, 8 inch splash, 14 metal-edge hats and 20 metal ride. They sound and LOOK great, I recommend! ;)
Holy shit the kick and snare sound amazing
oh you dont say
It sounds like a little compression has been added.
Lot of compression in fact.
Ben Gosling Go check out Accelerated Evolution, the drums tones on that album sound so epic and bad ass
The bass drum sounds like anything but a drum .___.
This is probably one of the best comparison video's out there. Straight to the point, cool groove and great sound! Thanks!
I'm a Zildjian guy, but I'm really impressed! I started out with Paiste Alphas back in the day, and always LOVED em! Maybe I'll do a switch some day back to Paiste.
what line of zildjians if i may ask?
Don't do it zildjian k is far superior
It's incredible how great even Paiste's entry level cymbals sounds compared to any other!
yeah, with good mix. pst3 sucks af without mics
Paiste cymbals are so fantastic series that I know that I can buy them in the future for some time maybe 6 months or a year or two years :) I love their sound :)
All the signature stuff sounds good to me.
I love that snare!
Paiste and Sabian. Two of my preffered brand in cymbals.
really? Me too!
Meghann Rauser Me too!
I love zildjian and sabian. But zildjian rocks
Well done, great Idea. I started with a Set of great sounding 505s in '85. Now it's Giant Beats, Dark Energys, and a beautiful like- new Pair of 602 vintage Hats in 15". Great Company, great Cymbals. Thank you, PAISTE!
I play sabian cymbals but from the way these cymbals sound I'm going to get them I love the sound they have such a crisp sound 👍
Thanks for the high quality recording and comparison. I also like how you mimiced the Zildjian comparison beat to really show how Paiste compares. All in all I can say I have a huge appreciation for Paiste after being a long time Zildjian drummer. I think Paiste actually sounds better and has a wider range and variety. Of those you demonstrated I like the 2002 hats and Ride with the reflecter crashes. I honestly think the Paiste 2002 ride is the best Ride I have ever heard in my life. Again thanks for the video.
that is an actual CLASS comparison, really well done for the editing
PST's, By far the best entry level cymbals made
Toast Tee That is the honest truth white pasite Well always and has always made the best quality sounding symbols the most recorded drummer was JR Robinson and Others behind him have you always used this amazing brand
@@michaelmartinez6437 My first set of cymbals came with my kit. They were Sabian B8's. Trash! When I took the plunge to pro level cymbals, I got 14 SE Sigs. I've been given a few Zildjians A's, K's, and Customs, but they're inconsistent, and most importantly not musical! I only use Paiste, and that won't be changing. They're musical, easy/great to record, durable, and cut through. The crazy thing is, lots of my Paiste are made of B8 alloy. It's incredible what they can do with B8! The 15 2002 SE hats are the best hats made, as are all their cymbals
Out of the big 4 cymbal makers, I agree that Paiste makes the best sounding lower end cymbals. But there are lesser known brands that blow the big 4 out of the water when it comes to cheaper cymbals.
That Giant Beat set sounded super!
I've liked Paiste cymbals for many years now, even after I originally gave up drumming in 1996. Lately, I've been considering getting back into playing. I just viewed "Best Sounding Drumkits Under $1,500," and I really like the look and sound of Pearl's new VBL Series. That kit in the video would sound AWESOME with Paiste's Signature Traditionals heard here. All I'd get beyond that, that I know I still like, would be DW's bass- and hi-hat pedals, some Vic Firth American Classic 5B sticks, and...well, I've been away from drumming for so long, that I'd have to try out some heads to figure out what my preference for heads would be now. Anyway, FANTASTIC VIDEO! Thanks for posting!
Anything Aquarian. Those heads are AMAZING!!!!!!
The Signature series is prefect!!
Would love a 22" ride & 16" Hats though...
Yep, the signatures are beautiful cymbals, I am always amazed at their clarity when listening back to a live recording of one of our shows.
16" hats? You must love a beautiful and robust set of hats, mate.
i dont even know how to explain how good these sound...and i love that snare sound too
So many more that were missed in this as well. Like PST7, PST8, 101, and SOZ. I have a 20" SOZ ride and love it. 2002 high hat, PST5 17" 18" crashes and 20" Rude china. Love them all, I've had Sabian cymbals and they were eh, they Have good stuff but it's the expensive stuff. Paiste is good no matter how much you spend, and they don't break!
Those didn't exist at the making of this video
Those signature reflectors. omg.
Dark energy - best. Have all set!
What a brilliant idea! Every cymbal company should do a video like this. It's possibly impossible to find a store (in the UK) which stocks every brand and every series of cymbal so we can do this ourselves to get a true taste of which cymbals we want to purchase given their extreme value on today's market.. Thanks for uploading Zw1d :)
That's EXACTLY what I was looking for... comparisons within the Paiste lineup. Thank you!
Some versions such as Twenty Custom Collection were discontinued. You need to check the website for new lineups, and some new video demos from Paiste channel. This one is old video in 2014 performed by Josh Devine from One Direction, but still a good reference.
the pst 5 crashes really blew me away!
im currently a full Sabian player (AAX/AA)
just bought most of an Alpha series (metal Ride, soundedge hats, 8'thin splash, 18' rock china) and im waiting for my 2 metal crashes in the mail.
in the mean time ive been completely blown away on how these cymbals sound and how durable they are. Not to say the Alphas are loud! great for live Gigs!
I suggest everyone try them out ... for the price you cant go wrong!
That hi hat is like butter!
which one lol
personally, the editing on this video was more impressive than the cymbals. phenomenal job guy(s), seriously.
2002. Awesome
Yes, I looked for a secret of sexy tones of Kyuss cymbals, and it was just giant (20-22") 2002 crashes, they sounds really, really tasty in their music.
Deep Mining I have a 22" 2002 crash and a 20" 2002 Medium for my crashes. The 22" is by far one of my all time favorite crashes. Check out Ian Paice, he uses 22 & 24" crashes.
1:25
I've used both Paiste and Zildjian in my
drumming career, but I've always bought cymbals one or two at a time.
About two years ago, I replaced EVERYTHING with all Paiste Alpha Brilliant
Finish cymbals, and I love 'em! This is the first time I have EVER replaced ALL
of my cymbals at one time! They have the sound clarity that I need at the volume
levels I normally play at, without overwhelming everything else on stage, and
they look great, with their mirror finish!
I love my pst5 ride
Those sucker's sound magnificent!
I'm sure that PST's sound great recorded, too. They may not project that much on stage, but they sound tight and crisp on a multi-track recording. Paiste does a great job with just brass, and mixing brass with their other alloys. The 5's are brighter than the 3's. But they both sound great.
The 5's are brighter than the 3's. But they both sound great.
I've used the same ride cymbal for over five years, and is just amazing!
I've been using mine for 8 years and it's still in the game! I even use it as a crash and it's amazing!
I've been a zildjian user pretty much my whole life drumming for 30 yrs or so and I must say I never really liked paiste until I recently started to notice their low budget cymbals. (Since I'm doing a cymbal makeover)
I believe these low budget cymbals are compatible with top of the line zildjian. For example I have a 17" z hybrid k crash and a 20 paiste pst7 light ride (tone wise believe it or not they sound nice together) and the ride is equally as good as a crash!
So now thank you paiste for turning me into a paiste user. There is no doubt you are the best at producing low budget Great sounding cymbals.
Im Now looking at purchasing some hats possibly the new 12 Cajons or 14 pst8 sound edge? Only problem is there are none in any retail stores. So I have to order on line and then send back what I don't want. ( ofcourse i have to pay the shipping, a down side). Bit of a pain but worth the hassel I guess if your into the art of Drumming and using differnt colors/tones as like a painter uses differnt colors/brushes as well.
Keep smashnum!
Paiste rocks!
Zildjian and sabians should do this too... but Zbts and b8s would sound way too bad :c
I actually quite like the sound of Zbt and to a lesser extent, b8s. And, for the price, I'd say they're quite worth it.
I love zbt's and b8's sound. i've had AA and AAX thinking and hoping them to sound just the way i like just because, you known, they're b20 and professional lines but ended up finding the sound i was looking for in zbt and b8, specially zbt's.
This video is the ultimate way to demonstrate different cymbal lines. I guess this video was made before the pst7 and pst8's were introduced.
2011. Pst8 were introduced in 2012 if i am correct, and Pst7 in 2014.
Probably the 2002s sound the best
I have a 2002 crash and hi-hats and they just sound beautiful. Such a crisp tone.
Dude, I know, I have a 2002 24in ride and its the best ride i have ever played
I’m currently using 2002 hats and ride, others are just pst 7’s
My 2002 setup are 14" Wild hat's, 2 x 18" crash, 2 x 20" crash, discontinued 24" crash, 18" & 19" Wild China's, i don't use any 2002 Rides as of yet as i have 3 Signatures and the 24" Rude * Eclipse...........my Signature setup are 14" medium hat's, 16" traditional crash, 18" crash, 20" full crash, 22" Reflector Heavy Full crash, 22" Blue Bell Ride, discontinued 22" Dark Metal Ride, 22" Power Ride, 24" Rude * Eclipse Ride, and i use a 10" Twenty Series Custom Collection Thin Splash.
I find that Paiste work the best with my kit's, all Tempus Carbon Fiber shell's and i just bought a Dunnett Classic Titanium * Tourbillion *
my Signature's and 2002's are amazing sounding with the power and tone of the Carbon Fiber and Titanium.......Power, Power and more Power.
To my ears, the Supreme line sounds incredible - those overtones on the 18 inch crash would sound amazing in the studio! 🎵🎵🎶
I like most of the crashes and hi-hats, but I didn't like any of the rides. I've been a bit spoiled by my Sabian HHX Power Ride, though...
Nicholas Morris I really like the HHX too but the only ride I like more is the 2002. They are as different as night and day though.
This video is seriously a dream come true for poor drummer and a love for Paiste cymbals. You my friend are a boss. THANK YOU
It`s all good until you find out that the guy playing is from one direction lmao
he's actually a really good drummer, even though the band he plays with is hated by many.
gagafaga11 he's a good drummer??!!! lol you failed ahahahahahahah
hey do you know a guy called Ian Paice?
or guys called nicko mcbrain, john lombardo, neil peart, dave wecl, mike portonoy...... etc etc
leonardo della sera John Lombardo's not a drummer, you probably meant Dave Lombardo.
Also, I don't know who taught you English, but you spell people's names with capital letters.
And it's Dave Weckl and Mike Portnoy, not dave wecl, mike portonoy.
Believe it or not I've sold my car and purchased a few Paiste cymbals from 5 different lines:
Rude, 2002, Giant Beat, Formula 602 and Signatures. I've been wanting to do this since my early 20s and I've accomplished the task and all I can say is that it's worth every pennies!
All the lines are exquisite because of consistencies. This mean that you can mixed them up and they work well together and unlike other brands. The Giant Beat works for me because I do many recordings. Get them!!
Nice snare
love the sound of Paiste.. I have a Paiste Twenty China.. Best china i've heard to date. I also have a Zildian A Custom set, but Paiste is just as good or even better
Great video, all cymbal companys should make a such.
I am a Zildjian guy through and through, and for the most part, Paistes aren’t my cup of tea, but I cannot say enough good about the used 24” Twenty Masters Deep Ride I bought yesterday. It is the only cymbal I own that can be used in jazz and metal with equal effectiveness.
Grade of cymbals:
Sabian:best in all lines
Paiste:PST8-Signatures=Genius
Meinl:Sound Caster-Byzance=Exceptional
Istanbul Agop:Everything
Dream:Great
Bosphorus:Great
TRX:good professional
Stagg:At least they're not Zildjian
Zildjian(shit would sound better): Avedis line only. Why the lowest? Remember the Pitch Black line...
wrong wrong wrong
you have no clue what you're talking about.
Sabian on top? haha really?
Yikes! Looks like someone got attacked by a flock of half-witted Zildjian fan boys!
Funk Blaster fuckin funny,, everyy time i look at live vidsi like paistes the best,
Great vid but now it needs to be updated for sure with 101, PST 7, PST 8, PST X, 900, 900 Colorsound, Signature Precision, Formula 602 Modern Essentials and Masters, also incorporating splashes, chimes and chinas
I tried Sabian's but their butt-ugly, prominent logo sucks (it looks incredibly bad) and I've cracked quite a few of them. Zildjian has it over Sabian, but Paiste has it over ALL of them! I love my 602's from times past and they have never cracked, nor split, and these suckers are old, as well! (The late 70's 602's, not the rehash).
I know EXACTLY what you mean haha
Really? Your argument for Sabians being inferior is their logo..? So you don't think the PAisTe logo isn't ugly, practically spanning the cymbal..And cracking them has a lot more to do with the player than the cymbal. You probably just hit too hard.
YOU SUCK! sabian is the top brand and if you had any brains whatsoever, you would like them. I like paiste but sabian is waaaaaaaaay better than zildjian
Funk Blaster you are so awesome funk blaster.
Funk Blaster Look I'm a Zildjian guy, and in MY OPINION. (Which i'm allowed to have without being called an idiot):
Sabian has a few good lines, but anything below the professional price point with them doesn't sound half as good compared to ANY other reputable cymbal company. And you know what, I personally despise their logo as well, in fact it is probably the biggest offender in the 'taking up half the cymbal" argument, and the only Paiste I've seen in this video with a super large logo are the two budget lines, and who really cares at the point? You don't buy budget cym
I'll give you this, the HHX/ HHX evolution from Sabian are incredible and the logo is actually quite tasteful (Except the ride, which for some reason has the normal one..)
Also the cracking cymbal argument is both from the player and the actual cymbal. You can get a bad cymbal, its not impossible, and that coupled with a player who hits harder will result in a break.
this video is really an example of how serious Paiste is. The only brand in the market to do this kind of comparison. Thanks for the hard work. It would be great if other companies would do that kind of videos.
Loving the rude ride!
Brilliant, this video was what made me by my Alpha set. Paiste are so good and diverse it's obvious why other cymbal manufacturures DON'T do this kind of video. They don't have the variation like paiste. Thanks guys, go forth and rock.....
Paiste ride Rude.... I love You!
Yes, it's good. And 2002 crashes (for rock)
Signature, Signature Reflectors and RUDEs. That's what I have and it is absolute PERFECTION. (the 602 24" Medium Ride is a beauty too)
for the amount of line ups they all sound similar....
That's what I've said too man, always thought it was just me!
+NathanXdrums gota listen to the subtleties:P this has been mixed obviously but the defining characteristics of the cymbals are still there, RUDE all the way!
+kevin cadete I was using paiste (cause That's what my dad used at the time) for around 3 years, I then switched to Sabian, didn't like them all that much.. Tried meinl, they were okay, I went back to paiste for a little bit (I got a TRX Brt (bright) crash at that time and loved it, although it didn't last very long,) then I found zildjian and haven't gotten anything else since then.
+NathanDrums So, what is your opinion about zidijian?
+Drummer9210 Honestly? they're the best company on the market for me, they're expensive yes.. But definitely worth it! My current setup consists of the K hybrid 14 1/4" hats, K hybrid Crash 18", 20" A custom medium ride (with a 7.5" Zilbel on top) A custom crash 18", and a 19" A ultra hammered china. Zildjian is just out of this world in quality and sound! Paiste isn't that bad but as I said: everything sounds the same or similar. Which isn't something I particularly care for, it's all really down to the ear of the beholder! Definitely would recommend them if you got the money!
@hh32note my guess is: 14'' for hihats, crashes of 16'' and 18'' (to clearly spot the difference), and rides from 20'' to 24''
Meinl owns this hands down, anyday.
The 2002s and Signatures sound better than anything meinel could ever make
+Weston Euler meinl makes some nice ride's though. For me paiste has always been way too clangy, and all their cymbals sound too similar for me, I'm a Zildjian guy myself.
You're a tool. It is not a matter of which cymbal manufacturer is better than the other or has better quality cymbals because cymbals are like music, they're subjective you moron. It's just a matter of preference.
amen
LMAO
If you might wondering who is the artist, the drummer name is Josh Devine, UK session drummer. Josh is the official endorser of Paiste and Mapex. He is currently credited in Mapex but I don't know why his name is not available in Paiste website, and his name didn't even credited in this video.
all the crashes sound like breaking glass. they all suck
Please, tell us what a crash cymbal is supposed to sound like, in your own words! Just so we know what to tell cymbal manufacturers, in the future.
daniel spaniel All of these crashes are nothing but high frequencies. Crashes should have colour and a mixture of tones that dont break your eardrum every hit. I enjoy a non glassy softer crash. not so soft it blends right in to the mix, but soft enough to mix well with all the other cymbals. Now obviously some people will like the shatter sound, but when the entire catalogue of cymbals sound like it. it sucks. It shows Paiste knows how to make one crash and one crash only, they dont know how to experiment. but obviously they dont care about my opinion, i just think theres a reason theyre 4th in the big dog list
howycwap I'm surprised that you haven't heard those very characteristics that you prefer in the the Paiste Traditional range.
HOWYCWAP IS THE SPITTING IMAGE OF EVERYTHING THAT IS WRONG WITH THE UNIVERSE
ikr
Exactly. Nice job on the video. It allows you to really hear the difference from one series to the next. I was surprised how well the Alpha's sound for a mid level cymbal.
hands down, this is the most helpful cymbal comparison video I have come across. other companies should follow this lead.
Can we have the complete list of Giant Beat and 2002 cymbals used there please ?
Good snapshot of each line's color. The consistency and simplicity of the beat is much appreciated too - helpful vid.
Uffffffff, 2002´s, years and years and is the best sound!
Great way to compare! It does show the different series....look in the top left corner.....
I like the Paiste Signature ride (great bell...low overtones) Traditional Hi-hats..(clean)
Crashes are a toss up!
This was a great video! Great to compare all the sounds, now the new Formula 602 "Modern Essentials" are out, they are incredible! have the ride 22" and plan on having the whole set! Thanks Paiste and Vinnie!!!!!! :-)
FANTASTIC IDEA....... All cymbal manufacturers should do this, but as they don't they won't get my money. I have played on Sabian cymbals most of my drumming life, an have been looking for a new set to with my spare kit. After watching this vid, I'm off to the shop to buy some Alpha series. They sound crisp & bright, and will fit in well with my bands sound. Thanks, GOOD WORK.
@Zw1d Most of all series shown in this video uses the 14" HiHat, 20" Ride, 16" and 18" Crashes, except GiantBeat series where only available 24" Ride, 20" and 22" Multifunctional (Crash Ride), and Formula 602 series where currently available 20" Ride, 16" and 18" Thin Crashes.
I just loved to hear the clarity of Formula 602s!
This video is real cool. I'm not really a drummer myself but recently I have been listening to the sounds of different brands of cymbals; I think I may have found my favorite cymbals.
I really like the Giant Beat ride and the 2002 hats.... I think they would blend well with the genres I play mainly. :)
2002's, in my opinion, are hard to beat. I still miss my 17in crash, was the most beautiful cymbal. Dream setup would be a couple of 2002 crashes and a couple FX cymbals, maybe 2002 hats (I'm more into extra thick hihats), and the 602 ride.
Back to roots.. But new sounds..vintage.. All are great im a lifelong Paiste guy
2:13 - Nothing beats the Signature Series!
Dark Energy is Amazing! For years I've been playing signature but I am really growing more and more in favor of the Dark energy set. Just picked up a 16" dark energy crash. Very complex cymbal. You can get so many different sounds from this one cymbal. It is really amazing.
I love the Giant Beat. I fell in love with them when I heard how great the sounded when Bonham would use them.
I wish there was something like this for all cymbal brands. Good job.
I was just thinking this.
Paiste just came out with the Paiste 7s, which are kinda an intermediate midrange quality based off their 2002 series.. you can find sound samples of individual cymbals but not in context. :/
WTB this video with Zildjian and Sabian too.
@KTVX94 It's all opinion, so no particular type of cymbal is oriented for a certain genre, whatever you think will work, works. I know that Paiste says that they are made for metal players, but that doesn't mean they can't be used for other genres, and vice-versa with other cymbals.
Loving some of the sounds Paiste are coming up with! Also the drummer playing is Josh Devine backing drummer for one direction i think :')
Oh my God... That snare is perfect!!! I love the sound
Such beautiful cymbals Paiste makes.
dude... this is the best cymbal video i have ever seen. and those are probably the nicest overhead mics ive EVER heard
I wish I new what kind of ride, hi hat, and crash were with each set up. I bet if I knew my next question would be how many grams for each cymbal, how big is the room, where are the drums in the room (I can guess the temperature),
how many felts on each cymbal stand, how thick are the felts, what type of stands, how heavy are they, how far apart are the basses spread out, but that's just me.
Paiste SignatureTraditional Series 3:00
and
Paiste Twenty Series 1:41
Simply for their crispy sound and hand hammering.
Paiste 2002 set is the best set for me, when it comes to tonality clarity and can fit to all kinds of genras...... Nice job paiste...
I sometimes pair my vintage Paiste 2000 medium hi hats( 2002 medium hi hats "little brother" ;) with an Alpha sound edge bottom..Close your eyes, and you'd swear it was a 2002 sound edge, or even sound creation sound edge, since it has a little bit of the trashiness and darkness, mixed in with the brightness of the sound edge bottom.. My 2000's cost me $140 and the used but in brand new condition sound edge bottom cost me $45.. $185 for literally 2 combo sets of great sounding hats..
@drumsistkrieg1349 well still, it also depends on the mic setup and level settings, if they're set correctly, it will sound a little bit better. maybe a lot lol.
Very helpful. One of the best drum/cymbal videos that actually make sense. Thumbs up!
this video is a delight to watch, top job
I have dark energy. I love them.
This video, however, could have been mixed better. Too much bass drum and not enough cymbal.
I don't think it highlights the sound characteristics of each series.
...addendum: The Paiste 2002 were and maybe still are one of the worlds most played cymbals by professionals. We enter the high end fraction when the video shows Rude and Giant Beat cymbals.
Solid Drummer! well done :)
Great video concept, every cymbal company should pay attention to this
In the Sabian videos, they cover up the natural cymbal sound with the same song on every video, which overrides the overtones, and they might EQ slightly, making all the cymbals sound amazing, even the B8. Paiste doesn't have to use those shortcuts, and all the stuff sounds amazing anyway. Paiste for life!
My current setup consists of three TRX ALT crashes, Zildjian Hi-Hats and Ride, a 6" Zilbell, a 12" Wuhan china to beat up and an 18" Paiste Signature China which I love to death. Paiste makes some great cymbals in general, but I swear by their chinas, at least their higher end ones. They are expressive and have real personality to them, whereas a lot of chinas out there just sound like trash can lids. Before the Signature, I had an 18" Paiste 2002 Thin China and loved that one as well :)
They all sounded very close in sound to be so is there a big price difference?
I love the look and sound and selection of the Alpha line.. Not the old one, this one. :P
wow i just feel in love with paiste cymbal and that snare
A's and Rude for me, but would prefer Zildjian A Custom or K Custom over any of these. Awesome vid though, I really love being able to hear the sounds so clearly side by side each other.
What a grat video. If only we had more videos like this to compare cymbals, it would be so much easier selecting a cymbal setup. My favourites: 2002s, Twentys, and Reflectors.
Thank you very much for such a truly awesome comparison!
You had helped me a lot!
The Paiste Signature Reflectors are so beast.
