I personally removed the velcro as soon as I got the knife as I hated the idea of it. I went to a local sewing shop and picked up a set of heavy duty snap clasps and sewed them back on in place of the velcro. Had it for about a year now and it hasn't let me down yet. Your English is fine by the way. I'm from UK and it's all clear from here. Good review as usual. I have the Ultimate Pro and find it a superb knife. Some reviews say the fire steel takes some getting out. Well you have a knife just to lift it out. It takes a couple of seconds. Some say the knife ii stiff to get out. Well surely that's the point. It does not come out easily. The knife locks into the sheath. If you take a tumble down a rocky slope the knife won't get lost in the brush.

I chose the Ultimate Pro as my first knife carefully after checking out a bunch of others, and was just as skeptical about the BG brand as many others... But it makes me feel vindicated seeing how many people who actually *use* the knife speak to its quality. Thanks for the great ideas!
Every thing that Gerber missed with the ultimate knife they nailed with the ultimate pro knife. Full tang, better steel, no serrations, better whistle, and totally upgraded the sheath, it is the ultimate survival knife considering there's no competition that offers a complete survival system with the quality of this product. I've seen the Les stroud camillus knife line and it isn't any better than Gerbers. Thanks for your review.
Go to a Shoe/Leather Repair Shop and they'll put you in a heavy duty snap on the Velcro straps for a couple of bucks. Do all your sheaths with Velcro this way. Headache solved.

I've often noticed myself that when there's too much flash it often drives the viewer to look at something else. And thank you for the pep comments. Languages are difficult as is.

Hey i just got the ultimate pro from Menards online it was on sale for $45 US. LOVE the knife but there shipping was terrible! I ordered this knife last Thursday and it was the following Friday (in the next week) . I'am going to put these mods on the knife. Thanks for the vid Brian!
Nice setups. I've beaten the absolute hell out of my BG Ultimate and have never had a single issue with it. I love that knife. I recently got what I thought was the Pro but upon comparing to ones I saw in reviews, I'm pretty sure I got a clone

I brought my BG on many adventures, it has done more than meet expectations. I have had it sense they first came out and I only needed to sharpen it once outside of the sheath. It works absolutely well. The only thing I don't really like is the serration on the blade. Another thing I would like to add. The sharpening block on the rear of the sheath has kept my backcountry axe in great condition. I have not needed to buy a separate sharpener as the one on the sheath does very well.

I had this knife but within a week snapped the tip off. I was testing it out doing basic "survival tasks" in my back yard and it snapped quite easily. Obviously you get what you pay for but I was quite disappointed. Hopefully the new version is a little stronger.
The new BG Ultimate Survival knife has been redesigned to the point they are only the same in looks only. I have the new BG knife and it's a solid performer. It's a really good knife. I have lots of knives and the new BG knife is one of my favorites. Don't like bright colors dye it black. Mine looks awesome in black.

Nice review. They might not be the highest quality but for the price they make a good emergency blade/kit to keep in your vehicle. You know...just in case👍🏻
Hey man your video review is great. One of my best friends has ADHD but he is very successful in life and makes a lot of money as an entrepreneur. Like you having the condition makes him try much harder and he sweats the details which makes him successful. This was one of the first knives I got.. It's so gaudy that I am embarrassed to carry it in the woods. I gave it away to a buddy. I like carrying the Bark River Bravo and the TOPs BOB knife along with a GFB axe and a saw. For all around good survival knife for under 100 bucks, the BK2 is probably your best bet. Keep up the good work.. and I subed

Paracord. Paracord everywhere! ;) Great ideas, I think I might do some of those to mine. I had already put the whistle on the flint, didn't think about securing the knife with a clasp. I dont like the velcro if ai need to use it, normally just run it behind my knife like yours, but without another keeper.
You should consider replacing that belt buckle strap (appears to be an old ratchet strap perhaps?) with a paracord strap. You already have the paracord, it adds to the cordage and would be easy enough to do. A one piece design with a loop and a drop to the knife similar to the bracelet, but without the buckle. Good video. I enjoyed seeing your mods.
The pommel and the ferro-rod are the only good things about the original BG Survival knife. I've given mine away I disliked it so much! The Pro looks o.k., being full tang an all, but I've never handled one. I like gear where the maker tells you exactly what it's made of.
Fine review Benji. I also bought the BG survival, then ,when it came out, the Ultimate. I favor the Ultimate too. I like your modification suggestions and will try them. I also have a Kershaw EDC and like the CRKT brand as you mentioned doing work on their lines.
Steven Lambert literally just ordered the Ultimate for $37 I figured it was an offer that was too good to pass but now I am thinking I should have went for the pro for a little more expense. Are the differences In Blade quality and sheath that great? Thanks...
Very good review mate,I love the ultimate pro knife and I do a lot of hunting and camping it's been very good and not let me down,yes it has bear grylls all over it but I don't mind one bit I think he does a lot of things we could all learn from,the knife is just as good as some I have paid five times more money for and if not better,this knife I think has a hard time from some but I think they just love complaining as there's nothing wrong with it 100 % FACT.

I would buy a original BG knife because of it's serrations In my opinion serrations help a lot the only problem with the original is the case it gets loose all around over time I know because I lost the knife itself and never found it while on a camping trip my suggestion would be to buy the original version then upgrade the case your self.

Ok...what I read was... Ultimate Survival is old one where as Ultimate Pro is new Updated version. Major Difference (aside from Sheath) is Ultimate Pro is NOT serrated and its 100% full tang where Survival Pro is NOT. Moreover, theres lot of upgrade on sheath. Correct me if Im wrong.
thanks for the videos. I have the ultimate pro knife too. impressive knife, sharp but wasnt razor sharp tho (I work with knives for a living) I soon got it razor sharp. Ive borrowed the paracord buckle idea, looks really nice. But instead of a webbing strap like you have ive attatched a kydex belt loop using a knot of paracord . Works a treat.

Unfortunately they don't since both blades while looking similar in some ways, the two are totally different. But if you do what I did with the sheath you might end up liking it more.
Great info in your vid and comments! Thanks to you I know I have 3rd gen ultimate. On sale for 30 bucks was a good deal... I would not pay more than 40. It's a fine knife and I like the orange and could care less what letters it has on it. It still dulls if the edge comes in contact with inside of sheath so I have to be careful. Steel needs frequent attention but it does the job. I would like to get the Pro but 70 is waaaay to high so I pass for now.

I don't give a crap about names or brands either. The Camilus or Gerber knives are all functional and you can get them on sale at bargain prices. I never see the Ka-Bar, Becker, Essee, Cold Steel, etc., knives as cheap as Gerber or some of the Schrade knives. I am sure there are buyers who think a blade under $100 is crap or under $300 depending on their viewpoint. I don't see a knife as a status symbol and ANY company can and does put out a defective piece of crap every now and then. Names, brands and slogans are just marketing tools.
Awsome rigs, I really love the look of the bracelet clasp. I honestly think people are way to serious when it comes to these survival knives. From what I have seen they work just fine and at least you get a sheath that has purpose, other then the companies throwing in some piece of junk excuse of one. You honesty is good quality character, I to have problems making videos, my mind has all the right things planned out tell I hit the record button LOL. I really like the new LMF blades by gerber , its nice not having the brite orange BG handles and look more tactical. Good review man.
I am not a fan of partially serated knives and would not buy the first one, but would buy the second one. You have made many changes to the sheaths of both knives and I hope it works fine for you.
I have the first one ,the generation 2 knife I got it for my birthday when I turned ten tomorrow which is my birthday it will be 4 years and when I need a fixed blade it's my number one when I need a pocket knife I use my Swiss army knife which I got for my 12 birthday I love bear griylls knives and gear

the best upgrade would be to sell it on ebay and use the money to buy something from mora, becker, esee, or any of the other inexpensive yet quality brands(which wouldn't include a gerber made in at least the last 20 years).
I have an old LMF 1 that it's currently being borrowed by a Marine officer, 2 Moras, and a BK9. Honestly though the Ultimate Pro runs with the best of them. To begin it has a much stronger steel. 9CR 19 Mov HC steel. However I do agree that the original Pro knife should be used at a camp site since it has a lower standard of steel at 7CR 17Mov steel.
Both nice knives but if your serious you get e ultimate pro it's a definite upgrade having played with both & owned the pro it's very capable very reliable.. The serrated edge on the survivor knife is not very practical it's just a celebrity look the part outdoor knife but the ultimate pro is much more for serious use..really doesn't look like it's ever going to fail but I do notice the steel isn't very hard it blunts very fast when battening or cutting wood. I was embarrassed with it a bit & hate the double bevel edge it's just harder to sharpen especially with a stone to a very good edge so I bought a TBS grizzly recently with a Scandinavia grind & wow it's a real knife..same size but smell the leather & just everything makes this celebrity knife look like a cheap toy....not that it is it's actually a capable reliable knife. So only consider the ultimate pro out of this 2 but if you want to own a knife then find yourself oiling it & wrapping it in cotton out of affection then buy a hand made because those BG knives are just practical printed hardware.only a handmade knife will feel special.

If you would not have said nothing about the studer, ADHD, ESL thing I would not have known, good review with a nice clear delivery. Just think if there were not folks with a bit of ADHA humans may never have left Africa. It's always the folks that what to know what's behind the next hill that explore.
The fire steel on the ultimate knife never comes out only if you make it. I don't know why it comes out, but my friends one fell out when we went on a 2 day hike and when we were coming up his thingy fell out and we couldn't find it but mine didn't come out and I was jumping around so much. Sorry this comment is so long.
Cut the velcro off by cutting the thread with a seam ripper. Nice mods. What accent? You sound like a well educated person who has good command of the American language. Try Cold Steel SRK or the older Camillus CQB1 or Baracuda. I carried both and excellent knives in a combat situation and camping.
And you have hard proof on this I assume? I'd like to see that cause ANY knife used other than it's designed purpose will always have the chance to fail. With that said all knives have their flaws. If it works for you for what your intentions are then it will work for you period. I have no problems with knife companies such as Ka-Bar, Mora, Cold Steel, Kukri, CRKT, Benchmade, Spyderco, SOG, Chris Reeve knives and others like it. Don't go trash on Gerber cause you broke yours abusing it.

Ive heard some pretty good things about it and my mate after many years got excellent success with it.

The Ultimate? Yeah this seemed to be an ongoing issue with the 1st generation and 2nd generation. The 3rd generation (the one right before the Ultimate Pro) remedied this issue by making the interior of the sheath a little wider. Ask Gerber for a different replacement explaining that your current sheath is dulling the blade. They'll send it to you free of charge...or at least they're supposed to.

adam ant I think you should give the knife a chance and try it for a while and then judge if it is good or not. made in china does not means it is poor quality. a lot of poor stuffs made in china only because of cost control which means whoever ordered these stuff want them to be cheap and therefore poor quality so they can make a profit out of it. And a lot people who ordered these are american importers. So what I am trying to say is some stuffs are poor only because people want them to be. chinese can build spaceship and super-computers, I am sure they can make a few knifes as well.

+Travis Gallegos I used about 8 ft of paracord on the original and about 9 ft for the Pro. As for the sheaths I just kinda wrapped em up. One can always use more cordage. Thanks!

You measure to your wrist. Typically I like to have about 10 feet of pararcord to make bracelets for the wrist and about 7 feet to make bracelets for the sheaths. But always measure twice and cut once.

***** Funny you mention that. I will be receiving the new Les Stroud primary survival knife from Shotshow 2014 as soon as it becomes available. The original version had similar issues that the first generation BG Ultimate Survival Knife had which was a pommel issue. What you see here is the third generation BG Ultimate Survival Knife which came out just short of the BG Ultimate Pro Knife. One of the reps at the Camillus booth did say that the original Les Stroud knife turned out to be flawed but the new one should show quite an improvement according to the rep. To be honest I'm very curious. When available I'll be reviewing this.

gerber/BG gear is actually really great. high quality and multifunction. very reasonably priced. I would use almost nothing but their series of products if only they didn't plaster "bear grylls" all over it... it's embarrassing

Yeah, Gerber did a lot better on the ultimate pro, and Camillus and Les stroud need to work on the Les stroud knives.

The knives look new, which is a sign that you haven’t been in the woods longer than 10 minutes, so it doesn’t matter for you if a knife is bad or not

I think using the paircord for the strap is an even better ideal because you can use it as rope if needed

Hey Brian, I'm sitting at my computer at 2 AM. Can't sleep, so I decide to watch your video. I'm not particularly a BG fan, but I must say . . . you were very easy to listen to. Good job, my friend.
I had this knife but within a week snapped the tip off. I was testing it out doing basic "survival tasks" in my back yard and it snapped quite easily. Obviously you get what you pay for but I was quite disappointed. Hopefully the new version is a little stronger.

The new BG Ultimate Survival knife has been redesigned to the point they are only the same in looks only. I have the new BG knife and it's a solid performer. It's a really good knife. I have lots of knives and the new BG knife is one of my favorites. Don't like bright colors dye it black. Mine looks awesome in black.
I just wanted to say as someone that sutters slightly myself, and has been known to be a little less than focused (ooo, a squirrel!) I am quite impressed with your video. As for English not being your first language... holy hell I couldn't tell!

Nice review. They might not be the highest quality but for the price they make a good emergency blade/kit to keep in your vehicle. You know...just in case👍🏻
Hey man your video review is great. One of my best friends has ADHD but he is very successful in life and makes a lot of money as an entrepreneur. Like you having the condition makes him try much harder and he sweats the details which makes him successful. This was one of the first knives I got.. It's so gaudy that I am embarrassed to carry it in the woods. I gave it away to a buddy. I like carrying the Bark River Bravo and the TOPs BOB knife along with a GFB axe and a saw. For all around good survival knife for under 100 bucks, the BK2 is probably your best bet. Keep up the good work.. and I subed

The BK2...Ol Becky. Yeah I would love to own that knife myself. This year I'll be doing side by side comparisons on some blades. Maybe if I'm lucky I'll get my hands on a Becky. Great ideas, I think I might do some of those to mine. I had already put the whistle on the flint, didn't think about securing the knife with a clasp. I dont like the velcro if ai need to use it, normally just run it behind my knife like yours, but without another keeper.
You should consider replacing that belt buckle strap (appears to be an old ratchet strap perhaps?) with a paracord strap. You already have the paracord, it adds to the cordage and would be easy enough to do. A one piece design with a loop and a drop to the knife similar to the bracelet, but without the buckle. Good video. I enjoyed seeing your mods.

The pommel and the ferro-rod are the only good things about the original BG Survival knife. I've given mine away I disliked it so much! The Pro looks o.k., being full tang an all, but I've never handled one. I like gear where the maker tells you exactly what it's made of.

I also have a Kershaw EDC and like the CRKT brand as you mentioned doing work on their lines.

Very good review mate,I love the ultimate pro knife and I do a lot of hunting and camping it's been very good and not let me down,yes it has bear grylls all over it but I don't mind one bit I think he does a lot of things we could all learn from,the knife is just as good as some I have paid five times more money for and if not better,this knife I think has a hard time from some but I think they just love complaining as there's nothing wrong with it 100 % FACT.

I would buy a original BG knife because of it's serrations In my opinion serrations help a lot the only problem with the original is the case it gets loose all around over time I know because I lost the knife itself and never found it while on a camping trip my suggestion would be to buy the original version then upgrade the case your self.
Pavel Dzhurylyuk original is weak steel and saw is pretty useless when you pair the blade with a hammer stick

Ok...what I read was... Ultimate Survival is old one where as Ultimate Pro is new Updated version. Major Difference (aside from Sheath) is Ultimate Pro is NOT serrated and its 100% full tang where Survival Pro is NOT. Moreover, theres lot of upgrade on sheath. Correct me if Im wrong.
thanks for the videos. I have the ultimate pro knife too. impressive knife, sharp but wasnt razor sharp tho (I work with knives for a living) I soon got it razor sharp. Ive borrowed the paracord buckle idea, looks really nice. But instead of a webbing strap like you have ive attatched a kydex belt loop using a knot of paracord . Works a treat.

Unfortunately they don't since both blades while looking similar in some ways, the two are totally different. But if you do what I did with the sheath you might end up liking it more.
Great info in your vid and comments! Thanks to you I know I have 3rd gen ultimate. On sale for 30 bucks was a good deal... I would not pay more than 40. It's a fine knife and I like the orange and could care less what letters it has on it. It still dulls if the edge comes in contact with inside of sheath so I have to be careful. Steel needs frequent attention but it does the job. I would like to get the Pro but 70 is waaaay to high so I pass for now.

I don't give a crap about names or brands either. The Camilus or Gerber knives are all functional and you can get them on sale at bargain prices. I never see the Ka-Bar, Becker, Essee, Cold Steel, etc., knives as cheap as Gerber or some of the Schrade knives. I am sure there are buyers who think a blade under $100 is crap or under $300 depending on their viewpoint. I don't see a knife as a status symbol and ANY company can and does put out a defective piece of crap every now and then. Names, brands and slogans are just marketing tools.

Awsome rigs, I really love the look of the bracelet clasp. I honestly think people are way to serious when it comes to these survival knives. From what I have seen they work just fine and at least you get a sheath that has purpose, other then the companies throwing in some piece of junk excuse of one. You honesty is good quality character, I to have problems making videos, my mind has all the right things planned out tell I hit the record button LOL. I really like the new LMF blades by gerber , its nice not having the brite orange BG handles and look more tactical. Good review man.
I am not a fan of partially serated knives and would not buy the first one, but would buy the second one. You have made many changes to the sheaths of both knives and I hope it works fine for you.

I have the first one ,the generation 2 knife I got it for my birthday when I turned ten tomorrow which is my birthday it will be 4 years and when I need a fixed blade it's my number one when I need a pocket knife I use my Swiss army knife which I got for my 12 birthday I love bear griylls knives and gear

the best upgrade would be to sell it on ebay and use the money to buy something from mora, becker, esee, or any of the other inexpensive yet quality brands(which wouldn't include a gerber made in at least the last 20 years).
I have an old LMF 1 that it's currently being borrowed by a Marine officer, 2 Moras, and a BK9. Honestly though the Ultimate Pro runs with the best of them. To begin it has a much stronger steel. 9CR 19 Mov HC steel. However I do agree that the original Pro knife should be used at a camp site since it has a lower standard of steel at 7CR 17Mov steel.

Both nice knives but if your serious you get e ultimate pro it's a definite upgrade having played with both & owned the pro it's very capable very reliable..
The serrated edge on the survivor knife is not very practical it's just a celebrity look the part outdoor knife but the ultimate pro is much more for serious use..really doesn't look like it's ever going to fail but I do notice the steel isn't very hard it blunts very fast when battening or cutting wood.
I was embarrassed with it a bit & hate the double bevel edge it's just harder to sharpen especially with a stone to a very good edge so I bought a TBS grizzly recently with a Scandinavia grind & wow it's a real knife..same size but smell the leather & just everything makes this celebrity knife look like a cheap toy....not that it is it's actually a capable reliable knife.
So only consider the ultimate pro out of this 2 but if you want to own a knife then find yourself oiling it & wrapping it in cotton out of affection then buy a hand made because those BG knives are just practical printed hardware.only a handmade knife will feel special.

The fire steel on the ultimate knife never comes out only if you make it. I don't know why it comes out, but my friends one fell out when we went on a 2 day hike and when we were coming up his thingy fell out and we couldn't find it but mine didn't come out and I was jumping around so much. Cut the velcro off by cutting the thread with a seam ripper. Nice mods. What accent? You sound like a well educated person who has good command of the American language. Try Cold Steel SRK or the older Camillus CQB1 or Baracuda. I carried both and excellent knives in a combat situation and camping.

And you have hard proof on this I assume? I'd like to see that cause ANY knife used other than it's designed purpose will always have the chance to fail. With that said all knives have their flaws. If it works for you for what your intentions are then it will work for you period. I have no problems with knife companies such as Ka-Bar, Mora, Cold Steel, Kukri, CRKT, Benchmade, Spyderco, SOG, Chris Reeve knives and others like it. Don't go trash on Gerber cause you broke yours abusing it.

I had an issue w the original knife dulling from sheath withdraw
Ended up finding a cheap replacement sheath
The Ultimate? Yeah this seemed to be an ongoing issue with the 1st generation and 2nd generation. The 3rd generation (the one right before the Ultimate Pro) remedied this issue by making the interior of the sheath a little wider. Ask Gerber for a different replacement explaining that your current sheath is dulling the blade. They'll send it to you free of charge...or at least they're supposed to.
Will you make a video on how you did the add ons (tied, connected) the fire starter, the clip skinny orange rope as replacement for the velcro
i have cut a 3 inch tree with the second gen knife
only thing i dislike more than the BG on it is that its made in china..didnt know that b4 i bought mine online but i happen to like the orange in it n case its dropped..not sure if i'm going to keep it or sell it and get my money back..as i said only problem i have is its from china but what isn't these days?

adam ant I think you should give the knife a chance and try it for a while and then judge if it is good or not. made in china does not means it is poor quality. a lot of poor stuffs made in china only because of cost control which means whoever ordered these stuff want them to be cheap and therefore poor quality so they can make a profit out of it. And a lot people who ordered these are american importers. So what I am trying to say is some stuffs are poor only because people want them to be. chinese can build spaceship and super-computers, I am sure they can make a few knifes as well.

+Travis Gallegos I used about 8 ft of paracord on the original and about 9 ft for the Pro. As for the sheaths I just kinda wrapped em up. One can always use more cordage. Thanks!

You measure to your wrist. Typically I like to have about 10 feet of pararcord to make bracelets for the wrist and about 7 feet to make bracelets for the sheaths. But always measure twice and cut once.
My knife tip broke off but the blade was still sharp and can't contact gerber

Funny you mention that. I will be receiving the new Les Stroud primary survival knife from Shotshow 2014 as soon as it becomes available. The original version had similar issues that the first generation BG Ultimate Survival Knife had which was a pommel issue. What you see here is the third generation BG Ultimate Survival Knife which came out just short of the BG Ultimate Pro Knife. One of the reps at the Camillus booth did say that the original Les Stroud knife turned out to be flawed but the new one should show quite an improvement according to the rep. To be honest I'm very curious. When available I'll be reviewing this.
