I have to admit, I'm a total novice when it comes to survival gear but know the BS from the real reviews when I see them. Your videos are well made and pretty much my go to point for a practical and detailed (and I mean detailed -which I REALLY appreciate) honest review. Not to mention your comparison to other products I would be oblivious to! Thanks, David! You truly have the heart of a teacher and the attention of an engineer! You rock!!
I bought each of my sons one of these which they love and I use more than them. This is a good product, sharp and great for splitting wood. I have had no problem keeping them sharp.
Timothy Ryan Fisher yea they stay a little too sharp, the edges chipped off on mine so i had to take a file to it and regrind a new edge
I bought this and took it on a two day hike. Pretty light, very well round Axe. I have no complaints.
Still satisfied with it mate? :D
THANK YOU I've been waiting for this video forever!
I'm african American and I'd like to axe you a question about the ask.
Wassenhoven420
Thanks, Bro, but some people like John Smith just grew up in a certain way. But imagine how boring this world would be if we were all civilised!!!
lol
8 months later and I just got it😂
Sadik Meah that would be so boring o my god 👌
Hey David thank you for another great review keep them coming.
Love your reviews. Keep up the great work!
I keep this as the hatchet in my get home kit I keep in my vehicle, if I break down in the middle of now where, and a small axe is needed, light weight, sharp, small jobs, making campfire etc. I know a bigger axe is better but try carrying it for two days to get home.
Wow. That was so well planned, edited, and presented. You got my sub just for the technical excellence of the video.
Great Vid David, Always a Pleasure watching and learning. Thanks
Thanks David, I'm thinking about buying this for scouts.
Very kind of you to say. Thank you! ~David
Been waiting for this review by you for ages! Great review David! and thanks!
Great video. Very informative and helpful, thank you. You should make a playlist of all the gerber/bear grylls survival tools/gear that you review.
Good review, I will look into one of these, thanks.
I have one of these hatchets. I spent 28 days in the Olympic mountains in Washington state with it. the only issue i found was after chopping many old growth tree limbs, the blade edge became distorted and wavy. but even after almost a month it was still sharp enough to cut off your hand if not careful.
these are by far the best knife reviews on web by far great job david :)
Thank you. I think this is the Dan's Depot BOB Kit... I show it in my review of the Dan's Depot BOB kit review that is coming up soon. Have a great day! ~David
I love your videos as well and they are helpful to me right now. I have a goal to set out in the woods for two weeks deep in Canada miles from anyone or thing. I am trying to find whats good and will work yet be light and cover all needs . Keep up the good work BRO!
You should do a review on the gerber gator combo axe II. Keep up the good work!
It fit everything for camping trips and really wonderful to be placed in Crystal Box masterpiece
Thanks for the review, man! I do LOVE LOVE this hatchet. I have put it to some serious use in the past couple of weeks, and it's truly an awesome tool. It has replaced my badass Coghlan's pack axe. it is SO lightweight, yet outperforms my other small heavier axes, sportsman's hatchets, etc. I want to see how this holds up over the next year.
I am REALLY glad you found us... AND thank you for your kind words! ~David
Thank you for the videos. They were my childhood
Thanks... it throws nice at 10-12 feet... have not tried it further.
Thank you Anthony. Glad you liked the hatchet. I do too... Take care bro! ~David
Thanks for sharing... good stuff. Indeed... we will see how it performs over time... but I have no complaints yet either.
And I loved it I also love this channel and was waiting for a review of this because I trust ur rating thanx
Saw this on my FB page. After bad experiences with several Gerber knifes, I may go ahead and try this for my Fall camping. Love your channel and vids sir. Very informative and inspiring. Thanks.
You are very kind. Thank you! ~David
another informative review thanks! can you please do a review on the molle bag you showed in this vid been looking at getting one for a while
good video, i like how yo do your voice over while demonstrating the hatchet.
Very high quality videos from you. Subscribed! :D
Good video i have one i really like it's small size always in my day pack thanks for sharing
I do have one here... VERY nice! I need to get it out and into the review rotation.
i love this channel good job David!
Have a playlist just for all of your Bear Grylls videos
Indeed you are right... the BG Hatchet is no comparison to these great knives... but for $33 US... the hatchet is a pretty good deal for camping and BOBs. I too would take any of your mentioned blades first... but they are in a different category all together. Thanks for the comment. ~David
Nicely done. Very professional review.
I always enjoy your videos.
Great review, like always. It looks like a great, small hatchet that is very packable and easy to use for multi purpose. Definitely some trade-offs for lack of size, but great if used within its limitations.
The hatchet edge is great so far. No issues. No rolling over on mine. I have two... both are very nice and sharp still.
Mora knife review would be sick! And maybe a leatherman wave or something but I love your videos man! Keep it up! Your editing is awesome by the way
nice I cant wait to test it out
nice little tool will defently added to my bug out bag thanks
You are very kind.
Yes... I have had no issues with the edge so far. And you are right... time will tell.
Hi David great review earned a new sub and like
Nice review, keep it up boss
I needed a new hatchet now I now what to get thanks !
Another awesome gear review David! This I actually like from the BG line. Although the handle overmold looks gimmicky. Seems like a capable tool.
i think this is far the best channel for survival tipps, reviews etc. really great work u do here like an sub ;)
Great job as always buddy. :)
Good job the vids are amazing keep up the good work.
Thanks man! We try!
Thanks for the questions... and BIG questions they are. I need to know what you want to do with them and what kind of gear your prefer. Lots of choices. AND the best way to get me is through our Facebook Page... it's hard for me to keep up with RUclips comments... except on the day I post a new video. Thanks bro! ~David
Thanks. I picked the shirt myself... with the help of my wife of course. I got 3 UST shirts for Blade Show this year... but this video was actually the first time I every wore the shirt and my NEW spiffy indestructible survival pants...
Cool... yes... we need to get an e-MAG out... it's been several months since the last one... we're working on it.
you reviews are the best!!!
David, thank you for teaching me survival techniques that help me when I go camping with Boy Scouts or just camping. Also Me and my dad are going up camping in the Catskills what would you recommend to bring? Thanks
I will be reviewing the Schrade Survival Hatchet... sometime this month... others following in the fall. The Wetterlings axe must be really special... based on the cost. I'll check it out more. Thanks! ~David
I'm glad to hear the over mold works well and saves on pain! I know all about using tools with minimal or no ergos and poorly thought out handle mat'ls. I would love to see a review of the Smith & Wesson Evasion & Extraction Tomahawk...seems there are only 2 videos on it, both are 2 minute overviews and no practical usage. I just got one, I'm in the process of evaluating it and doing real world testing and a video.
I got this Hatchet today and i was very impressed with how good it was....
I have used the hatchet to chop up fresh squid and octopus. Then, I used the back end as a meat cleave to pound on the squid and octopus to make them lean (or else it can get hard-chewy). Due to its size, it was great.
Indeed, it's not a tool for everyone. Thanks for the comment. Have a great day! ~David
AWESOME REVIEW.
Good Product & Good Review!
As always!
Very good question Robby. Gerber is huge and offers a lot of choices. They still manufacture premium gear in Portland for their tactical and military lines. But they are also smart and realize a lot has changed in the last 10 years so they market better and manufacture stuff in Asia to stay in business... and it's working for them. I do have some Gerber Gear that ends up with and on me often. LMF II, Hinderer CLS, Gator 154CM folder, the BG Hatchet in my BOB and a few more items. Thanks! ~David
Hey dude, cool review as allways! I was just wondering if you are going to do a video about the bear grylls parang any time soon?
Greetings from a really hot sweden ;) god bless you!
I would very much like it if you could make a reivew on the SOG hand axe.
Will review the Schrade Survival Hatchet soon... hopefully by the end of the month.
Great EDC hatchet.
Funny... Thanks for the feedback bro! ~David
I really like it and it's handle is perfect
You're a real gentleman ! Although, I really enjoy your videos, I agree on one thing with him, I would live to see more survival stuffs but you do what you can I guess !
Keep it up David, you rock ! (Excuse my english I'm a French boy !)
Thanks for the question bro, you can check out our FTC disclosure on our website. It's all there.
Thank you bro!
Your the man David!
Good question. #1 and FAR above all others is John Wiseman's SAS Survival Guide... after that's there is a wide selection depending on what you want to learn, your location and skill level. Hope this helps! ~David
David did you end up watching the episode of the office that I recommended for you? Love your videos!
Good idea... I have 4 or so laying around here.
lets not forget they make shovel like the coldsteel one but folding one so you can use it at a 90 degree angle they're cool
Hey... for long term storage... you don't want to mess around. To properly dehydrate and preserve nutrients the process will take 1-3 days depending on the moisture content of the food. We only use Exclibur Dehydrators... and the industrial model at that. They are around $300 US and I am a cheap skate... but this is probably one of the best investments we have made in the past 10 years. So, no... I would generally not recommend an oven. But I'm sure it can be done... folks used to use the sun :)
Love to have one. Even the look is awesome you should do more contests.
Thanks bro.
Do a review on the bg poncho and a private video on the bg pocket guide
David, you should review the bear grylls grandfather knife.
Hey David did you know that Bushnell also sells Bear Grylls stuff like binoculars and other stuff nice video man
I just found one at Walmart last night. Bought it for $32 ($34 and change after taxes)! Can't wait to put it to good use.
Maybe a review on how to sharpen the BG hatchet.
Yes!
I usually don't like BG gear but this looks nice
Still can't find that fire starter that is in the intros from David's 2013 shot show at 13 seconds into video, thought I had it in the strike master but wrong handle. It's a large round magnesium bar with a large ferro rod attached looks like a black plastic handle. Like a strike force but its not maybe it hasn't hit production yet. Tanks for everybody that tried to find it.
Hey what's going on Dave I just picked up the paracord hatchet made by Gerber / Bear Grylls. I cannot find any reviews on it, it seems very well made though have you ever tried it out? as well great job with the channel you're the go to guy for knives and gear, and survival. you're honestly the guy that got me in collecting knives and stuff and I really love it.
cool hatchet throw!
Normally I stay away from Grylls products, but this one looks pretty sturdy.
when I bought the survival hatchet i liked the compact design and it was sharp as you had specified but was disapointed as it took a huge amount of effort to cut down a small tree ( 5.5 inches thick) and it did not absorb as much if any recoil from the force of the blows as my other hatchet ( Gerber ). If i had a hand in the design i would have lengthened the handle buy 3-4 inches and give it a larger swing arc that would make it a better tool.
thank you for your review. it was well done.
great video, I dont like the bear grylls knife but the axe looks realy good.
Hmm, when will you review the mentioned hatches in this video? And a request, the wetterlings Swedish forest axe
Hey bro... it's not as bad as you think... time will tell... but I have had a great experience with it... and the Chinese wholesale sites are NOT selling the same tool. If anyone buys one they are buying non-Gerber stuff... and it's not going to be QCed to Gerbers specs... Thanks for the comment and support bro! I appreciate you! ~David
You got it Paul... Sorry it tool so long! ~David
