Good question. The new M12 looks zippier but new blades on all the saws tested would be more revealing. Also would love to see the 12v saws vs the Metabo HPT 18v Deep Cut (my go-to small saw).
No but the blade is far from worn. While it’s older in terms of age by the time of test I would bet that both Milwaukee has blades more use on them. New blade would have been ideal but after spending $250 on the saws I didn’t want to buy three blades on top of it. I will be putting a new Diablo blade on the new M12 now though.
If you like that and you really need a smaller saw I recommendHiKOKI C3605DA(SK)(NNB) 36V, 4.9 inches (125 mm), Cordless Circular Saw, High Speed 7,000 rpms this saw cuts And rips like you're using a lightsaber. They have one that the base comes off at the blade edge bevell's 15°so you can cut out subflooring. Another model is set up for dust extraction and when using a bag it picks up 90% of the dust. 36 volt 7000 RPMs small lightweight nimble. I bought mine from Amazon Japan and for $5 more shipping they flew it out and got to me in 3 days.
I don’t have that issue. Right now I don’t have access to that saw (currently in the middle of a move) but when I do I will look into it and let you know.
VERY GOOD Test and Video, Tinker !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!💯 Impressive little saw. As You know I own the 12 Volt XTreme DeWalt, and I want to like it every time I pick it up, but I also have to keep myself from throwing it across the yard when I do! 😯 After liberal use of Silicone spray, and a few adjustments, I can actually use the bevel. It is a smooth little devil, but they just missed the mark, IMO. Maybe mine is a poor copy, I don't know? It was free on some battery Promo at SLowe’s (sic) These saws have their place, but if the price was right, I would just go for the new 6&1/2” Blade left saw! I am hoping the Homer Despot runs a promo on it, but I really don't need another saw 🙄 7 corded models, and 5 cordless saws! Must be a disease? 🤔😯🙄🤣🤣
To me, the 12v tools are complementary to 18v tools, not replacements. 12v are smaller, lighter and more convinent, but obviously pack no where near the same level of punch. Only 12v tool I have i consider a direct replacement for 18v is the m12 fuel impact driver and drill, and because theyre on par with 18v compacts without having an 18v battery
I can see what you are saying. I think a saw like this is a benefit to someone who only wants to run M12 tools but occasionally needs a saw. It's not going to be heavy duty like the M18 but it gives a solid option for the M12 dedicated user.
@TinkerWithTools m12 is "doable" for a tradesman like an electrician or plumber, you even have the m12 mini rotary hammer for drilling into concrete. It's also a great homeowner system being compact and the batteries being cheaper than m18, but then skil with their 12v system is a huge disrupter in the 12v segment, and their 12v tools are so ridiculously cheap for their quality I'm debating buying some
Just replaced all my 18v with 12v the other day. If you are in a lighter trade, it's absolutely all you need. The 12v drill is a beast, pushed it through 3x25mm top plate holes through double plates and then with the massive 20mm extendo bits to drill 2m down a wall through 3 dwangs. Barely takes up any room in the toolbag compared to the 18v monster and SO much lighter. Hammer drill is fine for punting little 6mm holes, just a little slower than 18v. Tools have come a long way since the nicad days for sure.
Looks like it would be nice to throw in the car/van to do rough cuts on lumber in the parking lot instead of having to wait for a HD or Lowes associate to do it in the store.
I’ve got a whole collection of saws and I gotta say my favorite cordless for cutting 2x material and sheet ripping is the DEWALT 20v 4 1/4” almost more a rear handle style with a big hook to hang it everywhere
Flex inline circular saw. It permanently replaced my m12 and every other saw i own. Light, powerfull, line of sight on both cut line and blade. Pivoting dust chute. Great light. Blade is perfectly parallel to base edge...using a guide with no binding. Sounds better than any of these sick dogs...
@TinkerWithTools Yeah, I assume so too. but I'd take the extra weight. Kinda want the part thats gonna protect me from the spinning 2 inches of blade in a kickback to be extra durable. I just wonder how it reacts under force of a kickback. if it did jerk and fly back, smacking into your leg with sudden force. Does the plastic flex or bend a bit? crack? get flexed into the blade? I wonder if you could find a metal guard for same sized saw and put it on.
I am guessing that you wouldn't be able to swap it out simply because even a saw with the same blade isn't the same size for all the parts. The old M12 metal cover wouldn't fit on this saw.
@@TinkerWithTools Hm.. darn. Be nice if it wsd compatible. only way would to go totally custom on it then. Either cast or 3d print the part out of metal.
Yeah I don’t know the answer to that one. I know in the 6 1/2” size there are some blade right where most things are not but it seems in that size the only option is rear handles.
Blade left was a revelation to me when I finally tried it. Blade right always kind of felt awkward to me but it was all I knew. I do think I’ll be picking up the new 7-1/4” blade right when it comes out next month.

Thank you. Very useful in helping us decide among the saws.
Glad to help
Thanks for doing a comparison. Did you use a new blade in the dewalt 12v saw when you started the cutting?

Is there a way to tighten the blade guard on this saw? Mine moves freely when I tilt it up or down
I don’t have that issue. Right now I don’t have access to that saw (currently in the middle of a move) but when I do I will look into it and let you know.
Can you cut a 2 x 4 on a 45 degree angle ?
It cannot. Comes a little bit short on that. It’s claimed to the 1.3” on the 45.

I'm an electrician I run all m12 tools. I cut timber frequently, but only 2x4 or smaller, so the m12 is perfect.

Great stuff! It's been two months. Which one? DeWalt DCS512B or Milwaukee 2521-20
Milwaukee. It's better for sure. I just don't know that it's enough better to make it so you have to switch if you want the best.

Do you have flex?
@azendantforces1897 I do not.
I have to say, I have never had the chance to use that saw, vinnie? 🤔 Most that have seem to like it.
Definitely recommend buying it and giving it a chance, I hated it at first and now it’s my go to saw for all my 2x material and sheet ripping

Definitely not a tool for those big rips, those will slay the battery.
The plastic guards are a very weird choice to me. much rather have metal.
I am guessing it was to keep weight down as much as anything. so far I haven't noticed an issue with it but I am also not beating on it too much.
