Am I the Grinch stealing Christmas? Operation Good Cheer Pilot 2021

- This year I again headed out to PTK airport to help Children and Family services of Michigan to move some holiday cheer around the state through operation good cheer. I have been volunteering on the ground or flying for the better part of a decade. Most years I take someone with me, but this year i just was solo. Last year the air portion of the event was canceled and it sure seems to have brought a lot of volunteers out this year. The participants are always full of cheer and it's one of the ways I kick off the holiday season.

“And the cool thing is that he went through the donut line an hour or so before we did. In the video are the same ATC people that helped us, and the same two people (including the guy that provided the set of Allen wrenches that we used to disassemble the bikes) that helped us load the big boxes in our plane. Even the stack of gifts were in the same place our stack of gifts were in. He even landed, taxied, and took off from the same surfaces I did. And he documented the same headwinds and bumps we had, too. 🥴 As a result, I now claim this video as my own via eminent domain. 😀

I fly from a non-towered airport, so when I do fly into and out of a towered airport, it is exactly like this video. Kind of like a country driver showing up in the big city.
The problem is I spend a lot of time talking to towers... I should know better 😅

I think everyone was getting boned by headwinds that day
on the way to most destinations I would agree. I'm not sure how it was for you, but the way home was fast.
@@GreatMichiganBushCo Well, I was camped out in chaos central the entire time, and I think I recall seeing 270 at 18G27 when I checked.

@@JasonGillmanJr I didn't have a problem with the web application. I got there and for the first time it seemed they were expecting me.
@@GreatMichiganBushCo I was kind of surprised it worked out as well as it did. I'm a data engineer by trade, so this was the first time developing an entire system like this.
Definitely identified some things I'd like to improve upon (unsurprisingly, most of which is in the data/process model), but I would love any feedback you might have to make the system better for you as a volunteer pilot.
Awesome! Did you notice if Coldwater’s Prop Blast Cafe was open? Have not gotten up there since 2019.
I didn't. I didn't stay there very long. I hope it still is open.

Do pilots need to sign up ahead of time or just show up on Saturday?
You are supposed to sign up ahead of time. After you sign up once it seems your in the system and I know in the past I've shown up without registering. www.cfsm.org/images/Pilot_Volunteer_Application_2021_PDF.pdf
