- Nicolas Henry travels around India to capture the history and the legends of this fascinating country. This time, he’s in Bhinai, a village at the foot of the Aravalli Mountains. He meets the Royal Family. Jahnvi is the grandmother of the family, and explains the curse that exists on her family: because of the divinity Sati, all men die between 45 and 50 years old since 5 generations. But the malediction is now broken, and her son and grandson are safe. Nicolas Henry will photograph this family considering their history, traditions and beliefs.

As Tarnicles has commented below: The 'words written in Arabic' at 6.24 are actually a Hindustani/Urdu inscription (written in Perso-Arabic script). It reads : yeh mahal Ilahi Bakhsh kareegar (craftsman) ney tayyar kiaa samat (samvat) 1941 ( trans.: this palace was built by the mason Ilahi Bakhsh in the year 1884 CE).
It's so amazing that the Maharaja hired a Muslim craftsman or mason.
This mason must be one of his loyal subjects.
As the Maharani has described, his descendant Sadik is still serving the royal family.
It also looks like there was nobody there who was able to read the Urdu script.
Rajputs had mostly very friendly relations with Muslims, the tradition continues till date, even today in Rajasthan you will find rajput youngsters almost always have a Muslim best friend. Sadly with wahabi and salafi influence, radical Islam is gaining grounds and naturally as a reaction more conflicts between Hindus and Muslims.
I just want to say that in most cases sati was not voluntary. Many woman were forced into doing it.
There are very few cases of sati in India like 1 in a million cases compare that to the witch burning trails in America which was like 1 in thousand at that time.
you know invaders used to rape women , capture them and use as sex slave , they also sold them in markets , and many were tourchered too, and if they dont burn their body their dead body will be raped , and they cannot trust others to burn their body they servants can be bribed to preserve the body for invaders , now just imagine you are one of her subjects and some barbaric invader is raping your maharani's body (dead /alive) in the open infront of all the subject , also there were many traitors who would want to use maharani and their daughters to legitimise their rule so they cant aford that too , also most troops who were loyal to the royal family died fighting with maharaja but some of the traitors would be still present in the palace and no loyal troops to protect them they have no choice but to die a dignified death so their body is not at display

The woman made the whole SATI tradition sound complicated.
It was. Wrong but it was complex. And some (maybe a lot) were forced and not doing it could mean social ostracization.
Exactly most of the time the widows were forced to perform Sati because it became a tradition by then.
